I'm so glad I discovered you!! I did woodcarving about 17years ago and have some unfinished work but oh my I forgot all the techniques!! You are a great teacher with understandable explanations and I just love your calm voice. Thank you!!
Thank you. I liked that you linked each cut to what a Carver does with it. Also, I feel better about using a block just to practice without it having to turn into art every time
I am new to wood carving and find that your videos are great for beginners. I am learning a lot and just need to get confidence to start cutting up some wood..
Doing this since I was born I know these, learned by Myself but this is the first video I saw help the woodcarvers so I joined, I am going to explore the beautiful channel.
Great introductory video, I've recently taken up the hobby and this was an awesome short and sweet explanation that other videos took 20-30 minutes to describe. Bonus points because you remind me of my crafty grandma. Excellent work!
Thank you very much for making this video! It will be very useful!i have watched a few carving videos but your the only one who breaks it down for we newbies!Thank you again!
Thank you for your fine video, well prepared, well presented and well demonstrated. Many presenters “tell” you what to do, you “showed” us what to do, a big difference. John
Great tutorial! I can't help noticing your videos were dated eight years ago. Are you still making them? I subscribed. Thank you for posting this! Blessings, Health, Prosperity and Peace to you and yours and to all who read this! 👍😘😇💖
Hi there, I'm brand new to whittling at the age of 62. As if life wasn't hard enough I needed something new lol. My husband says old folks used to whittle to take their minds off of things. I just got my tools last night, I'll try to let you know if I could do it.
Hello to all my students. You're a great teacher! You packed a lot of info into a really short video! Super interesting--and I'm sure it'll take some practice to get these down. You make it look so easy! :) Thanks!! :)
Sharon I was referred to your Channel by Doug Linker. I was wonder what is the the best knife to use? I wish you were still making videos. I love how you teach. This is a new hobby for me since I can’t work because of my neck injury and surgery. It is very relaxing. Thank you.
You are a great instructor. I have signed up for a "Carving in the round course" with Road Scholar at Cedsr Lakes , Ripley WV. I have some whimsical whirllgigs started that need facial features. You videos are giving me a lot of good pointers before I am immersed in the class with others thst are more advanced at carving.
Gorgeous. A fantastic video. Great information presented cleanly without a bunch of mucking about. A perfect voice and speaking manner, instantly endearing. Amazing execution of spoken instructions. If I could snap my fingers and make 90% of instructional videos be made by you, I would. Only 90% because I'm sure there are 10% good ones now that can stay. Please make videos for every topic!
1min in and I know I'm going to sub; I'm only JUST taking up wood carving and I'm going to start with spoons and kuskas. I eventually want to make patterns on them :) Thank you!!
Hi, I'm just getting started, and I'm eager to do projects. Should I practice these cuts with a particular knife? I'm learning the different types of knives and how to sharpen them and keep them sharp too. I have the kits and wood and strop and compound
I just received a (spoon) wood carving set and now I'm looking for wood carving videos for beginners. I'm glad I found your channel and this video. I straight subscribed. Thanks for sharing this video with these important basic techniques. It was very helpful.
Very interesting video. Lovely hobby, it seems. Emil in Lönneberga would like (Michel in german for some reason :P ). That little guy always locks himself in his cabin and carves figurines after his pranks and misadventures, until his father has calmed down. Hes got quite a collection in there.
Finally got around to watching this video - excellent job. And the first video I've seen holding the knife like a pencil - I use this kind of hold quite often.
honestly you'll learn these cuts naturally if you grew up while you went to the woods with your family on small trips... as long as you're old enough to handle a knife ( and they teach you how to safely hold and handle a knife) you will learn to cut like that by experimenting alone .... if not all but most of them ( atleast it's how it was for me.. i just came here to check if there was some cuts i missed )
I love how you wrote the names of each cut on the block. That certainly helps cement the right names to memory for a beginner like me. Great video !
I love your hands. They remind me of my grandmother's. I miss her. Thank you for sharing, I learned a lot today.

“That’s a little pyramid cut, and it looks like...a pyramid”😂😂 I love this video❤️
How is that funny?
its a tetrahedron btw, not a pyramid
@@goblinoide it just is, relax
@@hanszimmer2290 A tetrahedron is a pyramid. A pyramid is not necessarily a tetrahedron, but a tetrahedron is always a pyramid; a triangular pyramid.
I feel like I'm learning from the "nice" teachers I remember! Wish I had more like you! Thank you
