    Hal-Ca is now at Steve Vai or Joe Satriani 's level - and probably even a bit further. And she's an amazing showwoman too, playing with obvious joy for the audience without ever missing a note! Same for Miyu (but replace Vai by Billy Sheehan). And I sometimes feel bad for Mio because he's damn good too, but people tend to forget about him because of the two monsters fronstage!

    • @VladimirChupin
      @VladimirChupin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, MIO is actually pretty impressive. I was a bit sceptical about him for a long time, but I think it's because his drumming style is different from how I imagined it should be. Senri Kawaguchi could be very good at this place 😉
      But MIO is very good, nevertheless. He's not a genius, but he achieved a very high level through his own personal efforts. I think he's a good example of a person without musical talent, who achieved great heights by working hard.

    Something I've loved about Asterism since I first heard them is how melodic Hal-Ca plays. In that she's light years ahead of so many who play in that style. There's no mindless shredding.

      Also, she plays with heart as well as with great technique.

      @@partogiogi6934 I always say so 👍 My favourite band is BAND-MAID, and of course, Kanami is amazing, but I never hesitate to recognize that HAL-CA is the best female guitarist I know of.
      Wave and Rosie watched Galneryus during their recent stream. I've never heard them before, and I was really impressed with their guitarist. So, I would not say HAL-CA is the best guitarist in Japan, when there are so many amazing guitarists in the country. But what I can definitely say, she's my favourite. Kanami is NOT ONLY a guitarist, she's like a whole orchestra to me. And HAL-CA is a guitarist, that's who she is.

    The King Crimson comparison makes a lot of sense to me - folks who like Asterism should find they also like 1972-74 era King Crimson, especially the studio album "Red"

    Yes, ASTERISM, finally. They absolutely blow me away everytime I hear them.
    Hal-Ca is just so otherworldly good already at her still young age. As are the two brothers.
    Please try "church" on their TH-cam page for another mesmerizing experience.

  • @rickwagner-
    @rickwagner- 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    I know some folks were concerned they would be "pushed" into a more mainstream direction when they signed with Amuse, Inc. (BABYMETAL, Perfume, ONE OK ROCK, etc.).
    Instead, the 'GUERNICA' and 'GUERNICA + a' releases are their most experimental yet.
    Initially, HAL-CA (Haruka) was as a solo artist, and the brothers MIYU and MIO were performing together.
    They all appeared at a Yamaha sponsored 'Trigger' competition (at different venues), and staff introduced them to each other, and encouraged them to work together.

    • @VladimirChupin
      @VladimirChupin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was when HAL-CA and MIYU were only 11 😁 So, the notions of "solo artist" and "brothers performing together" acquire some weird overtones in this context 😂

    • @rickwagner-
      @rickwagner- 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@VladimirChupin I guess it might have been a litle clearer if I'd said that HAL-CA was competing as a solo act, and MIO and MIYU were competing as a duo.

    Found an extensive, not video, interview online (Dang! Now i can't find it to share.) great Q and A , each one of them explained who they are , how and when they started, their musical influences (Turned me on to Loudness,Wow! The evolution to Lovebites 40 years later), goals going forward, etc. None of them speak English but, when they played at the Japan Nite Festival in Austin TX, the crowd showed them a lot of love and they loved them back through their performance. They grasp the power and beauty of music being the universal language. Teenagers! Creating and sharing music is their life and love it more than anything else in the world(Their words).HAL-CA was funny, explaining how much work it takes to write and rehearse while being students. She claims they do instrumental because they enjoy creating a fuller sound with their instruments. Their sound, to me, is something like a fusion of Hard Rock and Mahavishnu John McLaughlin. Heady and melodic with the hard rock blast. Fantastic.

      Thanks for sharing the video. I'm introduced to my new favourite band. (Of course my no.1 is Band-Maid). Even though there are so many amazing bands out there I couldn't quite get into them because they all seem to have similar sound that I get bored of very quickly. Band-Maid and this band have the quirk and versatility that many other bands lack.

    Hey Wave, The band uses a lot of House or Rented backline gear when playing out in the clubs. Mio is always on a different kit. Imagine that as a drummer. Also notice on Hal-Ca's Guitars that she uses a non locking nut and a simple Wilkerson Tremolo and dose not blow up her tuning.

    This fan recording is not too bad, but if you want to really appreciate them, check out their live studio recording of "Church" Mio does some amazing bass with a combination of 7 strings and dials on his bass. His role model is Jaco Pastorius by the way. Hal Ca does some amazing solo work and Mio sounds brilliant as well. th-cam.com/video/pkiKSBX8JPA/w-d-xo.html

      I wonder if that old thrift store Yamaha/Pacific finally gave out (LOL), I couldn't believe it survived as long as it did. Will be interested to see if she stays with ESP as I am sure every guitar company would want this gift playing one of their custom made ax.

    Interesting stuff, somehow I have not yet checked Asterism out, my loss, eh? Though I will say I thought mostly of Sokoninaru, if I had to compare. I'm also not good with terms for specific styles, but I don't think calling this kind of proggy stuff "math-y" is unfitting, I'd figure most people would have a rough idea of what to expect, and for me this falls in it.
    Also the speed is truly insane, I'll never get how fingers can move that fast...
    That said, I'll definitely look into these guys more. Since I saw they both do have mic-stands I wonder if everything they do is instrumental only? I wouldn't mind some vocals in there, not that they're really missing.

    • @VladimirChupin
      @VladimirChupin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You may check their new song "Risky" which they have performed recently at a festival in Japan. All three of them are singing there. HAL-CA has got a nice voice, I would say.

      @guybrushthreepwood1519 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VladimirChupin Oh, thanks, I just did.
      I would have expected them to get some vocalist in, never mind all three of them singing.
      It's a cool song and they perform well despite the weather. The instrumental parts are still the highlight i'd say (loving the bass during HAL-CA's solo there), but it's a good move to have a "real" song in their portfolio.
      So yeah, if they continue with their awesome instrumental skills and keep working at those vocals, i'd recommend them even higher (not that i can, already told everyone I know about them :P ).

      Oh, good point!
      If I understand it correctly, they can hold the real live shows in Japan, if there are less than 50 people attending. Or, if it's an open-air concert. ASTERISM is still a pretty small band, for them making a show for 50 people is not a problem. They also played an open-air show recently, where they presented their first song with vocals, "Risky," which was pretty good.
      I wish BAND-MAID would invite 50 fans to their online OKYUJIs. At least MISA would not feel lonely, as she complained recently...
