    From all of us at Vanderhall, thank you Jay, for the time you spent with us, being a gracious host, sharing your the insights into your cars, (knocking out the foot well in the Lotus was a real nice touch for tall guys), and just getting to spend time in the ultimate man-cave with you was truly a great experience. Personally a little enamored with the home built, Indian-powered, enclosed trike. Thank you for all you do for all things motorized and wheeled. -Vanderhall Motor Works

    what a bunch of snotty negative comments. I like the style of the morgan better but this is better than all the other 3 wheel cars out there. very impressive and Jay is right about the low cost. I was curious as to how those two were going to fit in that thing. Steve Hall is a big boy. But $30k for made in the USA wind in your hair driving is a good thing. The Engine/Transaxle are GM, so it's a high mile package that should be able to be repaired at any GM repair shop. The cost of ownership should be low as well.

    There will always be a bunch of internet armchair reviewers when it comes to criticising someone's work; but to me this looks honestly made and a fair price, it looks like a blast to have as a second vehicle. Sure the big manufacturers will always be able to produce something that would be a more logical buy, but it will likely be sanitised and less human than trying out a product closer tied to the dreams and efforts of a small group of people.
    Although all the engineers probably sneered at Jay for requesting a gear readout as opposed to just listening to the engine, I think that sounds a good idea to help get used to the vehicle initially. But I'd love to give one a try and I'm not even from the US, so kudos for whoever took the effort to give manufacturing this a shot and make this a reality.

      Well, 4 year post. Did you buy a Vanderhall??

  • @slolane
    @slolane 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I really like my Slingshot but this Vanderhall is awesome too. I like how well thought out some of the features are and that they offer automatic, I think both companies should offer both options to ensure preferences can be had. I have friends with Slingshots, some others are now looking at the Vanderhalls too... the more the merrier as competition gives us consumers more options and usually keeps the pricing comparable as well. I hope all of these brands do well. I'm a long time motorcycle rider, have had over 60 bikes and still have 4, I used to work for Honda and wasn't really interested in any of these until I took one test ride... if you haven't done that you really cannot truly conceptualize it. Comparing them to cars or bikes is silly, the new category should just be called fun-cycle as they are a blast and then maybe the sensitive people wouldn't get all offended over a name or classification or maybe it's just the price. For the more experienced and open minded people the closest thing to compare it to I have driven was a Lotus Caterham I raced in AutoX and many know how fun those are. Ride safe and have fun everyone!

    Im going to just say this. This thing is EPIC. Everything about it is awesome. The looks, gets a 10, the speed gets a 10, the price gets a 10. The guys that build this thing are pure geniuses. Its almost like a dream and i have to pinch myself to make sure its really real. Its so amazing that, to me the only bad thing is that its so good that it makes you just think whats the catch or second guess and think there has to be something wrong with it. But reality is there is nothing wrong with it. Jay has had a lot of videos of these independent guys who make motorcycles or cars. But of all of them, this one is the best one.
    PS: i seen one for the first time last weekend, and like Jay i thought it had to cost in the 50k area.

    Well done Mr. Hall, great car/motorcycle. Love that dash with analog simulated gauges and tubular metal separated toggle switches, if I was building my own dash it would look exactly like yours. I would assume if the rear wheel slid out, the correction would be the same as a 4 wheel vehicle? For me I would need a convertible cover so I could make this a daily driver, no need to go full out and have side windows though, just a cover to keep 90% of the rain off. I would also have a taller wind shield for more protection from the wind. No helmets...is that because of Elio's work in legislating helmets away for their own 3 wheeler??? And that removable hood...excellent access, for us owner mechanics this means to us what horsepower means to a drag racer. Just so well done, can't wait to see how this car/motorcycle evolves over the next few years.

    I see lots of 3 wheelers around my town, this one is way better looking. Judging from the people I see driving these cars, I'll assume that the automatic is a good choice. I think he's on to something here...would I buy one...actually I'd consider it, it looks like it would be a blast to rip around town on the weekends.

    So, you get an awesome, retro-styled front engine, front drive, 1.4L turbo I4 powered 3-wheeler, and it's a hair under $30k, and you don't need a helmet to drive it. What's not to like?
    Also, unlike the T-Rex and the Slingshot, you don't look like a Berk driving this.

    I was amazed at the price. I thought £33k at the least. I would love to build a 4 wheel version with the front suspension and panels reversed at the back. (But then you'd get the EPA nonsense). It would look just like an early Allard, Cunningham or Bristol Arnholt! The builder (and President) has shown an incredible amount of initiative with the suspension, engine and ally bodywork to get the price to under $30 and make a profit. Imo, I think it's wrong to compare the Vanderhall to the Morgan--future tech. and ideas up against retro re-manufactured investment. Morgan 3 wheelers here (in UK) are still rare, lovely cars though!

    I've seen and sat in one of these at a motorcycle show. It looks good in person, it's comfortable, and appears to be well engineered and put together. I also think it looks better than a Can Am Spyder, with much cleaner lines, and is about 1000 times better looking than than those hideous Polaris Slingshot monstrosities.
    I normally don't care for front wheel drives, but in this case it makes perfect sense. And I suspect that by sourcing an GM Eco Tec automotive drivetrain, which should be good for 150,000 to 200,000 miles, it should easily outlast the Slingshot and Spyder. At $30,000, Leno is right. For a low-production vehicle, it's really a good deal.
    The only thing I wish is that it was a manual, not an automatic. But all in all, it seems to be a really well though out and executed. I hope their business is successful, as they have a good product.

    This is my opinion and others may agree or disagree. I don't think this is a motorcycle. Do to an injury I can't use my legs and my lower back. I test drove one thinking it would be too hard to get in/out, it's not a bike, etc (I'm a motorcycle enthusiast). I was too quick to judge. I hadn't even made it to the highway and I couldn't stop smiling and believe how comfortable it was. I'm not real big so others might feel the cockpit to be to narrow. There are things I thought could have been better. It's the visceral feel of riding/driving you have to experience to thoroughly enjoy it

      @romanval69 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Elio's trying to do large scale mass production, as it's the only way to sell it for $8K... but the problem is a large scale production requires a lot of money invested in an automated factory & parts pipeline..
      This autocar is mostly using an existing GM drivetrain and is priced higher.. it's a different target market anyways.

    • @acmeopinionfactory8018
      @acmeopinionfactory8018 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Roman Val Elio, after all this time, and all that money, has no viable prototypes, no supply chain, no business plan, no money left, no credit, and no 'target market',
      Elio is the second coming of the Dale.

    • @romanval69
      @romanval69 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting.. I haven't kept up with Elio for a while.
      Elio probably should have gone the "Tesla" route and built a boutique autocar first, and then go on and build successively lower priced/higher production versions later on.
      I have seen quite a few Polaris Slingshots on the streets though-- but that's a similar production as this (GM drivetrain + custom bits). They probably didn't spend more then 5 years working on it either.
