Nice comparison, there is indeed a difference in the formulation, but the polystyrene cup isn't really showing anything. All the plastics used for engine components are immune to the solvent in regular carb cleaner, and it can be used just fine. Reminder that gasoline will also dissolve a polystyrene cup. Will pouring gasoline all over the plastics of your engine melt or damage them? Imagine the scandal if that would be the case.

Absolutely true! Also, when we are clianing we spay only for few seconds and then dry it with towel. So no issue to use card cleaners

There is even a more important difference between them and that is one is meant to leave a residue behind (Carb Cleaner) & the other not to leave a residue (MAF Cleaner) because the residue would affect the readings of the MAF working correctly.

This video is the answer to some guys here in YT which spray their MAF sensor with any kind of spray you can imagine except the proper one.
Thank you for the demonstration sir, best regards from Greece.

glad i saw this, my question though is. if you leave in a place where you cant find a mass air flow cleaner, is there an alternative product that is easily available that can be used for the same purpose?

For most independent contractors and even most dealer ship they use crc throttle bottle for basically every thing lol. Even use it to spray mass flow air sensor. For home user they buy different types like crc mass air flow cleaner for electronics components/ air flow sensors.

First of all, these parts are not polystyrene, and secondly carb cleaner, or anything like it, evaporates long before it does any harm. I use electronic parts cleaner for everything. The only reason to have all these different products is if you're a CRC stock holder.

  • @littlecedar3425
    @littlecedar3425 ปีที่แล้ว

For what I believe they are different from one another but they are both cleaners, designed and engineered according to each and every car/Engines Manufacturer's Specifications and Recommendations. I've been using only just 1 brand for many years that's CRC brand. I never had any Lean or Rich fuel problems on all of my Gasoline Vehicles, I clean MAF sensors every 3 months or 4 times in a year. Sames goes to Throttle body whenever I clean or replace Air Filters I also clean the throttle body and the MAF sensors with the specific Cleaner. Sometimes they don't work because you have some other issues such as the ECM module needs to be Re-Calibrated or Re-Evaluated meaning Tuning it to give it more Fuel. Or perhaps maybe the throttle body is defective is and it is not functioning the way it is! Or maybe the Fuel Injectors are defective and needs to replace so the cleaner doesn't work no matter how many times you clean the MAF or Throttle body because the fuel injector is screwed up. Or maybe the Sparkplugs needs replacements.

In theory, probably yes, but in reality, the carb cleaner evaporates quite fast (not like a cup) and the ABS plastic is much stronger than a foam plastic.

Interesting that folks dismiss the validity of the test simply because the MAF has no styrene, or because you don't soak it. The point is that carb cleaner can or will damage the plastic found on modern MAF sensors.

  • @AzBigD

This is beyond the dumbest test i have every seen, you are not gonna let a maf sensor sit submurged in carb cleaner, plus that cup is not by far made of the same plastics that the casing of the maf sensor is made of. I have cleaned countless maf sensors with carb cleaner with no damage to them period. Clean with carb cleaner and blow with air and it'll be fine. I am a ASE certified mechanic and have been for over 30 years and have never had any issues using carb cleaner on a maf sensor. Your test is like comparing apples to steak meat( cup plastic vs maf sensor casing)....GTFOH with that BS.

Can you do a video on using CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner as a safer alternative than standard carburetor spray cleaners, for (the newer, black) plastic Briggs and Stratton carburetors - or maybe something like CRC 05103 QD Electronic Cleaner, as another safer, secondary alternative . . . or maybe even on comparatively, which of the two would be the better / safer alternative, and why?
Seems like no one else has done this yet.
    Thanks, in advance.
PS: Don't know if you'd be interested in this or not, but I'm strongly considering / leaning toward the possibility of purchasing a Toro Recycler 21-in Gas Self-propelled Lawn Mower with 140-cc Briggs and Stratton Engine, Model # 21321, and have been doing tons of research, being brand new to this, and all. Am very "OCD-ish" and aware of what folks share about this mower, as far as the various opinions, positive and negative, but've pretty much made my mind up. That's how I learned about the necessity of being careful with which carb cleaners to use on which carburetors, etc., but still have more research to do. That being said, I also did an "AI" search related to the above referenced cleaners, and thought you might find the following results interesting (?) for helping you w/your new video on this, if &/or when you do one :

You dont spray mass air meters with the engine running/ key on. If you do it can ruin the meter.
After spraying let it air dry well several minutes before starting the engine, or the meter could be ruined.
A few extra bucks for the right priduct is cheaper than $100 for a new sensor.

Using a flammable solvent is a way to detect vacuum leaks but could be dangerous to spray near and on a hot running engine. We would recommend contacting CRC Industries to see what they have available for this application.
