I got the coin 2 or 3 months ago, and EVERY MORNING I say "Memento Mori" and "you could leave right now, let that determine what you do and say and think" to myself. I usually add "spend your time better." I also pray. This has helped significantly in regards to an addiction that I've done little about over the last 15 or so years. The last 3 months have been completely different. Between Memento Mori, a calendar that I mark off good and bad things each day, and sharing my addiction with people, I've created accountability.
@@thusspokedominicus my morning routine is something like Memento Mori followed by psalm 118. "This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it." Then my prayer usually is something like: "Lord, give me the strength to do what is right today for You, for me and for those around me. Help me be focused and productive in all that I do. Keep me on the path of improving myself, and help me find joy and peace." I also usually repeat this for my ex-fiancee and ask the Lord, "and if it be Your will, please bring us back together again." Then I go to a mirror I put in my room and do a self talk list posted on the wall next to it. "I am a valuable person," and things of that nature. It did feel cheesey at first but it's also been helpful.
I have been practicing "Negative Visualization" my whole life. I just recently found out that it is part of the Stoic philosophy and practice. When I find myself in a situation or circumstance which gives me anxiety or grief, I just simply ask myself, "What is the worst case scenario... Is this really something to get worked up over?" Most of the time, it isn't. I also remind myself, I'll be dead one day and none of this really matters. We are tougher than we think.
I'm Christian and I have the utmost respect for it but I have to admit that Stoicism has taught me so much more than anything I've learned any where. I've become a better person, I get exact advice to any situation that I encounter. I have to say that stoicism has been my greatest guide in life's difficulties. Thank you Ryan Holiday for all your hard work in presenting stoicism to us. You helped make me a stronger, better person.
The idea of 'You could leave life right now' is both sobering and liberating. It makes me reflect on what really matters. It’s a humbling reminder to focus on the present and let go of the trivial. Who else feels that life becomes more meaningful with this perspective?
Important to keep in mind, I think, that Christianity is a religion. Stoicism is a philosophy. There is a universe of difference between the two. The salient difference is that one demands belief in the supernatural. The other simply demands being rooted in reality. Not at all trying to be insulting, nor to influence…merely to point out that the stoics, generally speaking, rejected the concept of an afterlife.
I attended a college graduation today, and watching this video wish that the commencement speaker had spoken on this topic instead of the generic speech that he gave. “Today you have achieved a monumental accomplishment, both personally and professionally, but remember that one day you will die.” would have been more useful.
I am terminally ill, have a terminal diagnosis, I am 64 yrs old and the diagnosis came when I began the journey out of my mothers womb, just like everyone else breathing life this moment. Now, making the most healthy journey of contentment and stoicism is a wonderful guidepost to that
This is what I learned in Buddhism as well. The three doors - what you do, what you say, and how you think about things - it’s all we got. And a big part of life is to prepare for a good death. I appreciate how the is nuanced. It’s broadening.
If you’re reading this. You’re already ahead of them all by watching this. In a world where no one cares how their body & mind works , you’re one of the few that’s aware on changing for the better. Let’s have a peaceful productive & kind attitude. ❤❤
I look at this video in different sections everyday, its changing my life. Went from stressing when I heard Mom, to appreciating I can still hear her voice
Memento Mori isn't about fearing death; it's about valuing life. Every day becomes a gift when you realize it could be your last. This philosophy has changed the way I approach my relationships and my goals. How has this idea impacted you?
I cried watching this video.. definitely changed my perception of life & living intentionally. Realized that I need to stop being so hard on myself & enjoy the moment. Memento Mori.
Death is the ulimate gift of life. All of our lives wouldn't make sense if it wasn't for the certainty of death. It's a master of motivation and inspiration. It's so much more than an end, even though I do believe it's the end for your body and mind.
Funny. I am diabetic and I was watching this waiting for my blood sugar to crash after a long walk with my son. And it did, no worries though. But it is really close to dying. After watching, I realized I have not asked my son, a young man in college, what is important to him right now. Memento Mori, man.
Scott, diabetes is a subject true to my heart. Assuming it’s type II, check out Dr Berg on YT. I believe he can help .. a lot. I’ve met and transported a lot of dialysis pts in my day, I wish I had that info back then to help out. Check him out. Hope it helps
I must say... this has got to be the best Daily Stoic video that has been posted. It's like a documentary... on the subject of Momento Mori. Thank you Mr. Holiday and the staff at The Daily Stoic, for producing an important video like this.
I bought your leather bound edition of meditations and read it every day as if it's a Bible. When I'm depressed, sad, it helps. Also I've bought all your books and you deserve more props. Keep it up brother the stoic principles keep people alive.
The fact that we are more aware to live the moment intense and enjoy today is awesome! Stoicism is a great guide for critical thinking of very impressive issues in real life
I have come to the realization that I am more afraid of living than dying. I believe the masses feel like this and that is the root of all the problems we encounter in life's experiences. Meditation of Death is truly the key to lose the fear of living
My dad dropped dead from a heart attack when I was 19. My mom, sister and I never got to say goodbye. Whenever I leave my wife and kids, I always kiss them goodbye. I never know if it'll be the last time they see me.
I really needed to hear this. Been recently going through life with no direction. Did much in the past. Along the way I lost myself due to many messed up factors. That is what caused me to stop living in the present. The pandemic really shattered my way of seeing life. I will never be the same person I was. As a result, was trying to find an answer. Started looking into philosophy. Its true, death is inevitable. Started focusing on creating digital art. Wanted to do art when I was much younger and I chose a different path due to financial reasons. Before my time I want my art to be known by others and generate some income from it. This way I can leave this plain of existence without regret. Regret to me is worse than death itself. Thanks again.
This long video brought tears to my eyes.... I'm 23 living in Texas trying to find my way as an adult and as an individual. I want to be better and I want to be more driven. I'm about to become a secondary history teacher/coach in August. I wish I could see Ryan one day and have a 1 on 1 meeting to tell him how thankful I am for him. Its a different feeling knowing that he's in the same state as me. I just look up to Ryan so much and all of these people in this video as well as the philosophers. I am grateful for so many things in my life...I'm so blessed in many ways. I need to stick to the advice Ryan gives me and to not get caught up in earthly pleasures. I want live my life to the fullest. I'm 23 and I know that I'll never get those years back. I'm about to start my career I've always dreamed of. Thank you so much for these words and wise philosophical ideas. I hope to meet Ryan one day in person at his book store.
Respectfully, you are not about to become a teacher,,,that is just your chosen job. Get the book Meditations from his website. Read it and refer back to it, the. Start sharing Stoicism with others in word and most importantly deed and actions. Live today, be ready for the “Ups and downs” that area part of life. Live today with abandon, have fun, do a good job at work and help people. You got this.
Good for you! The fact that you recognize this is amazing and is going to set you up for success. Also, I've been teaching history for 6 years now. It's my dream job as well, you'll love it. If you ever want advice or tips for your first year just let me know and I'd be happy to help out! Best of luck!
I’m still getting hung up on the fact that I don’t like my job or the purpose it serves. I still need to keep this job ( I’m not young) but finding it hard to be truly present, find meaning in the 40 hours + time at home answering emails, dealing with clients, when I don’t find it meaningful. I’m just doing it for the money and for the time in the future when I can stop and really do things that are meaningful to me and the community. It’s me literally killing time and it’s heartbreaking.
I had the same situation for 20 years at a job. Everyday my head was not connected to my body. I know exactly the feeling. Not until I was fired did I finally wake up. I also felt I could not leave the job because it was good money. My only suggestion is you find a way to leave that job as soon as humanly possible because there is life on the other side. I know it's scary but you must do what makes you come alive. You must find a healthy environment. It's probably not what you do but who you do it with that is killing you. Please go work somewhere else. I don't care if you have to cut lawns you will be much happier!
I’ve also thought about trying to get up extra early and do things that are meaningful to me and then going to work won’t seem so much like they are controlling my life. ( they just refused a 5 day vacation after a year) so that it will seem like I’m making the choice to go there instead of the minute I wake up- that they own me.
@@macjrc very much the owner. I still do the same type of work I have done for the last 30 years and I'm completely happy with what I do for a living. It was the environment I was in that was slowly killing me. I had acid reflux. And the day they fired me I realized a week later I didn't have it anymore. I probably would be dead with cancer by now had they not fired me. As I look back I wish I didn't hold on to the money and security as much as I did and changed paths. Believe me I know that's easier said than done. I for one did not do it! I had to be fired to leave. So I am a complete hypocrite. Know that I know that. By the grace of God they fired me. I only pray that you live within your means and slowly start to find a way to move towards a better environment even if it means less money and less security. Because your life matters. This is not a dress for her so and your time is important. Blessings!
I just came here to comment that I don’t feel lost anymore, and in fact didn’t even watch this one, because all of your content I’ve watched the past few weeks has completely turned my mindset 180!!! Anyone seeing this, if you’re watching this, stick with it and check out all of the videos in this channel, literally life changing if you apply the lessons!!! Not trying to come off arrogant, just beyond moved by these videos and felt the need to let anyone know if they feel lost, like I was, YOU have the power in yourself to have the life you dream of, and this is the instruction manual imo, THANK YOU!!!🙌🏽❤️👏🔥
I have the terrible habit of taking everything for granted! Even after I lost my son at 17 and my husband at 37! I also regularly approach life like I am stuck here forever to suffer endlessly. Maybe some of it is severe depression but i wish I would learn.
I live in Ukraine and right now this quote is as realistic as it possibly can be... I live in Kyiv, right now fights are away from it, but on the beginning of war listening the shellings sound far away from you becoming closer and closer with each hour.... that's when you really 'live as if it's your last day', ******* war
To my brother in Ukraine. My heart ❤️ is with you.. I'm praying for you from the USA. I donate money to your country. Know many of us share this burden with you and will see it through along your side
this is such a powerful video. for about 20 yrs as ive got older and seen my senior parents starting to have various medical issue's ive taken every chance i can to remind them of enjoyable things we did as a family when we were kids, told them i love them and how i appreciate our childhood. I decided long ago i dont want to be one of those people who leaves it too late to tell them these things, they need to be said now when they can hear it and so im not left with regret of leaving it too late.
That part about treating someone for whom you care poorly is exactly why I'm here. I did that to someone I love. I tried to make amends, but she wouldn't let it go. Now she has moved away, and transferred to another store. I'll never see her again. Perhaps that by learning to be more stoic, I can find peace independently of her, and learn not to let things get to me anymore.
Most of the internet has been expertly engineered to waste your time and energy (to sell you shit you don't need), stealing the big picture focus of "precious moments of life slipping away every second." It's so hard to communicate this to someone who's still in the "internet induced dopamine addict" phase of existence - blindly scrolling, posting, watching. Saying "you're going to die" doesn't really resonate with someone with no real purpose, goals or passion until it's too late.
Excelente! Momento mori is a very clear message to be present and real…. And I would like to add a verse from the Bible that give us hope to the ones that choose the time wisely … 2 Timothy 4:6-8 6 for I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not me only but also to all who have loved His appearing (James 1:12, Jhon 5:22). Thanks for reading…. God bless you 🤍
I discovered the meaning of death when I was probably 10 years old. I moved to the USA, and I was going through a lot, so I had this reminder of my mortality that really shook me in my bed with chilling and trembling spasms while repeating to myself: "I am going to die, I am going to die". The fact is that I thought I wouldn't be able to see my parents and siblings again. But I have always been obsessed with death. I have actually educated myself about it. I also envision my last day on this dimension to be meaningful such as passing away while watching a sunset, a sunrise or birds flying in front of me.
I so appreciate your videos. Thanks. I'm a Christian who is often anxious. This helps. I think stoicism and Christianity go hand in hand. Blessings to you! And thanks
I am so thankful, and grateful my therapist sent me one of Ryan’s videos. It was such an, ‘exactly, that’s what I’m talking about! This is how I believe naturally we should be living.’ And being a highly sensitive person, highly sensitive to negative energy, highly sensitive to the sociopathic personality, Stoicism along with Buddha’s Metta loving~kindness has helped me get back to living🙏🏽 And really it’s a reminder of how my father taught us to live life. But trust my Pops was not easy to live with growing up🙏🏽 Thank you Ryan Holiday for all you do💕💫🙏🏽
I’ve missed you, Ryan. Enigmatic and a few years late to this video, but I found you and discovered that stoicism is what I’d been trying my whole life before I started to really think deeply with substance and direction on this… And then I lost you for a month. I was in a better place still but the carriage had pulled off from the train. I am back. I am beyond these videos, and in these videos and in my life and all in between. Thanks buddy
I have almost died 3 times. Its the living and not being able to take care of myself and living by someone else's rules, that scares me. The peace of dying when living in my own prison sounds good.
I'm going to need to watch this a few more times. My thanks to the Daily Stoic team for putting this together. I have the feeling this video will help me lead my life in a more fulfilling way.
Memento Mori became very real for me when I had open heart surgery in 2022. I never felt so close to death as I did when I awakened from that surgery and during the months of recovery . It was a realization that Death is the ultimate release from all pain. I now believe death does not have to be the painful experience it is for so many people. I think about quickly I could be gone now quite often. It is very surreal when you think about it. My mom also died a few months before. She was young 71 years old. She died gracefully with acceptance from what I saw. I did get to say goodbye to her and knew it would be the last time I could talk with her. She recognized me but was very week and had trouble talking. Anyway at 52 I am trying to be grateful for all I have.
I have started a new job as a college lecturer in bricklaying. Never done it before in my life have no training experience they are putting me through my teaching courses. But I am using my 3 years experience as a stoic to guide me. Always carry my memento mori coin. And my 2 favourite quotes be strict with yourself and tolerant with others, and well being is managed in small steps but is no small thing. It's good to see my new way of living is helping others as well, good to not need the 3rd thing. Just want to say a big thank you ryan, and my uncle pat who put me onto stoicism as I was lost and angry 👌👌👌
Makes sense - I lost my mother on Tuesday (managed to see her for the last time in April) and then my terrific father who has been by my mother’s side since 1965 has been told that one of his legs needs to be amputated next week due to a serious infection… Momento Mori!
I honestly feel like I've learned this so late. I lost my fiance, and wasted so much of my life trying to break into an industry I thought was everything to me only to realize I only needed a different career to live a happy life with my the love of my life. Now I have no idea how to move forward or to want to.
I’ve been thinking about this lately. Once we die, what really happens ? Think about it. No one really knows until experienced. Where do we go afterlife ? We’ll have no control where we go, no control what we do in the after life - wont be able to take anything in the after life. The only choices you have are the ones in this life. Don’t be scare or let fear get in your way of a better life, what is holding you back? It could be financially, relationship, better use of time or bad habits, or maybe being the victim because it’s easier too. I struggle with this too but I accept we’ll all die. The best things in life are free - birth, death, water, friendships, laughter, meaningful conversations, & relationships. Cherish who you have, what you got & time you still have because you won’t get those things back & wont be able to take it to the grave
@@danilomarulanda8621 if god fearing Christians Really Beleived in a place called hell; ETERNaL HORRoR and TortURE for unbelievers, why don’t all Christians desperately recruit all unbelievers. Wouldn’t they forget about a job, or a family, even eating food, and wearing clothes....there is nothing more important than always converting any human you meet! There would be Nothing in Life, Nothing. Nothing but the horror of eternal hell. For other people who don’t know or don’t believe. Every Christian would be wildly, desperately obsessed with telling all people. With every moment of their life. They would never be able to sleep at night, imagining that any human would have to go to hell...Why are Christians not screaming it from the rooftops? Crawling on their hands and knees screaming to everyone they meet. Begging that people are converted. Screaming in terror and crying blood, to make sure that Not One human has to go to Hell?....because they don’t really believe it. They know deep down inside that it’s total bulls$&t. A complete and total lie.
Theres many many nde’s across cultures and time that are all similar. We go home to heaven when we die! ❤ we are spiritual beings having a physical experience.
What an amazing channel this is! So very timely. Many Blessings to all who are inspired to produce it and all those who take away from it’s existence 🌞
It is thoughts like this that has steered my channel towards Stocism! Thank you for spreading the word, and helping to motivate small channels like mine.
Two of my favorite people on the same video! Love me some Ryan and GaryV. Appreciate y'all's words, truly life changing. Have a good one. Getting this tattooed on my arm, I was looking for my next piece.
I believe there are many people who are not afraid of dying - just afraid of the pains that come with it. As for death, if you have no purpose, and most of us have none or at least don´t know it, leaving this place is no issue at all. I´d go with a smile - there is nothing here to gain.
definitely clicked on this video expecting a video talking about Unus Annus.. Did not expect to find a serious video on "Momento Mori" applied to life. It somehow translates that Unus Annus experience to how it could be applied to my life. I can suddenly see both things from a slightly different perspective. It's all of the same things that were said/discussed on the Unus Annus channel, but it was such a lighthearted context that even though I knew it was deep, I wasn't in the frame of mind to absorb it at a deeper level and apply it to my context of life. Memento Mori.
I started my life as a young father at 19 and immediately understood the stoic philosophy of memento mori , I grew up in an ethnic Italian household and as a Roman Catholic ,my father who we lost in 03 when I was 21 used to compare the stoics to our own people and it was understood at a young age time is . good video great work memento mori sir. 🫡
I never really let myself worry about or fear dying as it’s part of the deal of life and just focused on enjoying life as much as j could to make it worth the “deal” until my son was diagnosed autistic and I don’t know if he’ll be okay without me. He’s only 9yo but he’s not where I hoped he’d be, but the older he gets the less I’m convinced he’ll ever have the skills survive without my help. I don’t have family I can trust to help him That wouldn’t just use his disability benefits as a side paycheck. I pray I can do the right things to prepare him for the inevitable and to survive without me. He’s smart but he’s trusting and makes him an easy target. I don’t want him to be alone. Plus right now he’s limited verbally but he’s never truly stopped progressing there so I hope that continues. But I can’t bear the thought of him passing before me.I can only do my best and hope that’s enough regardless of what the future holds.
Really i have seen in times of trouble. Something/someone comes to bless me and take me out of my mess. This time i had faced something which again shook me and somehow i came across stoicism. Since then i start and end my day with it. I also subscribed for the daily stoics from Ryan Holiday. I really really from bottom of my heart thank him to release these videos. Daily stoics. Like an Angel somehow you have helped me unknowingly. Really wish i get a chance to meet you someday to thank personally. However, for now i am just going through the videos and continue my learning. Thank you again
glad i found your channel, thank you Daily Stoic, this is giving my life more fulfillment each day in the present, memento mori & with gratitude, LaynoProd
10:25 rushing towards death I've ALWAYS said this. When I was on vacation with my grandparents and sister all she talked about the whole time was what she was gonna do when she got back
I was so ready to do my "routine" this Morning . Now I cried my ass off and currently looking to book a family getaway with my kids and grandkids 😭❤️🤬😌.

I am very aware of what memento Mori means but never ever did I see a video on this that was so clear and to the point...I really got it now...thanks Ryan !!
I love this. However the one thing I'd recommend for editing this compilation is take out the multiple explanations of memento mori and how you carry the coin.
I have not given myself the opportunity to meet all best versions of me!! Fucked up childhood, migrated to the states hoping the American dream they sale is legit, i bought in, to find out it aint given to all. I guess that's why they call it a dream, it's only talked about but never seen lol...i spent my days and years between depression, anxiety. From a dark cloud, to a toxic mood. From a fragile been, to an undesirable version of myself that i prayed for death everyday, every minute. And then i stumble on this gentleman and his teachings, and all he had to say, that i will die for dam sure, did i do, say , act accordingly to the requirements of my day and my day only!! Aint gona sit here and claim i figured my life out, but for dam sure i am willing to give it a messianic certain effort and finish the day i receive every morning with purpose,on purpose, and never wait for tomorrow 🙏 Now i am willing to die a man that left it all out there. No matter what i conquer or fail to, i know i will be dieing regret free🙏🙂👍 Best of good and sincere living to all🙏
Fear and Truth. It all breaks down to that. Fear is us pushing away from the Truth. Whatever your journey always do your best to find the Truth. Truth is where you find god.
No.. I literally have an entire mission and a million things to say already lined up, I'm just getting my footing after 20+ years of working towards this.. I'm great tbh💯
Congrats for beating your addiction. It's an amazing accomplishment. I'm working on it myself.
What do you pray?
I got it tattooed on my arm
@@thusspokedominicus my morning routine is something like Memento Mori followed by psalm 118. "This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it."
Then my prayer usually is something like:
"Lord, give me the strength to do what is right today for You, for me and for those around me. Help me be focused and productive in all that I do. Keep me on the path of improving myself, and help me find joy and peace."
I also usually repeat this for my ex-fiancee and ask the Lord, "and if it be Your will, please bring us back together again."
Then I go to a mirror I put in my room and do a self talk list posted on the wall next to it. "I am a valuable person," and things of that nature. It did feel cheesey at first but it's also been helpful.
You’re manifesting your own death
Stoicism has been more healing for my anxiety & depression than any medication ever has.
Me too! I’m so very surprised at how effective it has been for me
I have been practicing "Negative Visualization" my whole life. I just recently found out that it
is part of the Stoic philosophy and practice. When I find myself in a situation or circumstance
which gives me anxiety or grief, I just simply ask myself, "What is the worst case scenario... Is this really something to get worked up over?" Most of the time, it isn't. I also remind myself, I'll be dead
one day and none of this really matters. We are tougher than we think.
🙏🏼
imma take you up on that and study stoicism for those exact reasons.
Hell yeah! So nice to hear that 😊
I'm Christian and I have the utmost respect for it but I have to admit that Stoicism has taught me so much more than anything I've learned any where.
The world needs this channel right now. Thank you for articulating this!
This guy is living his purpose/duty. Keep preaching bro.🇰🇪
Treat yourself like someone you love and care about
By the time we realize we’ve been taking time for granted, it’s to late.. man I felt that.
Death is the ulimate gift of life. All of our lives wouldn't make sense if it wasn't for the certainty of death. It's a master of motivation and inspiration.
It's so much more than an end, even though I do believe it's the end for your body and mind.
It’s definitely the end of the body which is just a vehicle
Funny. I am diabetic and I was watching this waiting for my blood sugar to crash after a long walk with my son. And it did, no worries though. But it is really close to dying. After watching, I realized I have not asked my son, a young man in college, what is important to him right now. Memento Mori, man.
hey have you started talking to your son more and asking how he feels about life?
Scott, diabetes is a subject true to my heart. Assuming it’s type II, check out Dr Berg on YT. I believe he can help .. a lot. I’ve met and transported a lot of dialysis pts in my day, I wish I had that info back then to help out. Check him out.
Hope it helps
You don't need a coin. You can lose a coin. Tempus Fugit Memento Mori is a mantra I recite nearly every day!
So “carpe diem”.
One of the most important videos on the internet. Everybody in the world should watch this.

Stoicism is a great guide for critical thinking of very impressive issues in real life
“It’s all about living a life that has no regrets, but also a life that isn’t making regrets if you are lucky enough to be alive the next day”. Wow
Memento Mori is so good to get.
To live less encumbered and to be in the here and now is a blessing. Thanks for your work.
Best wishes
Keep your head up man, also from Texas.
@@infomercialguy pretty insightful. Cause it really does boil down to the owners. I’ll take this advice to heart and see what I can do. Thanks

Not trying to come off arrogant, just beyond moved by these videos and felt the need to let anyone know if they feel lost, like I was, YOU have the power in yourself to have the life you dream of, and this is the instruction manual imo, THANK YOU!!!🙌🏽❤️👏🔥
The “I’m sorry” at minute 21. My gosh I felt that so much and it also reminded me of my dad when he was about to pass.
Of all self-improvement/personal development subjects, this concept has changed me the most.
Been listening on your spotify podcast everyday. Changed my life.
Regards from Finland!
I have the terrible habit of taking everything for granted! Even after I lost my son at 17 and my husband at 37! I also regularly approach life like I am stuck here forever to suffer endlessly. Maybe some of it is severe depression but i wish I would learn.
I'm sorry to hear about your family. Take care of yourself
I live in Ukraine and right now this quote is as realistic as it possibly can be... I live in Kyiv, right now fights are away from it, but on the beginning of war listening the shellings sound far away from you becoming closer and closer with each hour.... that's when you really 'live as if it's your last day', ******* war
So sorry you're going through that and I'm sorry what is happening in your country. The world is with you and I hope this is over soon.
Much love to you brother, stay strong 🙏🏻
I can relate
How you holding up my brother?
To my brother in Ukraine. My heart ❤️ is with you.. I'm praying for you from the USA. I donate money to your country. Know many of us share this burden with you and will see it through along your side
Memento Mori and the Buddhist impermanence.. so much relief♥️
Memento Mori. Memento Vivere. "Remember, you will die. Remember to live."
this is such a powerful video.
for about 20 yrs as ive got older and seen my senior parents starting to have various medical issue's ive taken every chance i can to remind them of enjoyable things we did as a family when we were kids, told them i love them and how i appreciate our childhood.
Most of the internet has been expertly engineered to waste your time and energy (to sell you shit you don't need), stealing the big picture focus of "precious moments of life slipping away every second."
It's so hard to communicate this to someone who's still in the "internet induced dopamine addict" phase of existence - blindly scrolling, posting, watching. Saying "you're going to die" doesn't really resonate with someone with no real purpose, goals or passion until it's too late.
Excelente! Momento mori is a very clear message to be present and real…. And I would like to add a verse from the Bible that give us hope to the ones that choose the time wisely … 2 Timothy 4:6-8
6 for I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand.
Just got this tattooed on my L forearm. Every time I check my watch I’m reminded to use that time wisely.
But trust my Pops was not easy to live with growing up🙏🏽 Thank you Ryan Holiday for all you do💕💫🙏🏽
This does not need incidental music. The ideas stand on their own.
I’ve missed you, Ryan. Enigmatic and a few years late to this video, but I found you and discovered that stoicism is what I’d been trying my whole life before I started to really think deeply with substance and direction on this…
And then I lost you for a month.
I followed your videos for months before I realized that we live in the same town! I love it here.
Keep up the great work Ryan!
Makes sense - I lost my mother on Tuesday (managed to see her for the last time in April) and then my terrific father who has been by my mother’s side since 1965 has been told that one of his legs needs to be amputated next week due to a serious infection… Momento Mori!
I just realized when you're a child you pratice this but after you get self conscious and peer pressure gets to you
I have it tattooed on my right arm to remind me always 🖤

I would have benefited from being as wise a you at 34 years old (am 44). Fantastic channel. ✨
Received jesus today , repented of you sin and you will live the eternal live.

I believe there are many people who are not afraid of dying - just afraid of the pains that come with it.
As for death, if you have no purpose, and most of us have none or at least don´t know it, leaving this place is no issue at all.
I´d go with a smile - there is nothing here to gain.
God I love your message Ryan, you are saving me from the suffering of my own stupid thoughts.
Thank you Ryan. Depending on your Daily Stoic emails already! They encourage good behaviour! I am 79.
At some point I am going to cry during watch this clip and it definitely leads me to have more clarity, Thanks 🙏
definitely clicked on this video expecting a video talking about Unus Annus..
I don’t have family I can trust to help him
That wouldn’t just use his disability benefits as a side paycheck.
Holiday is one of the best when it comes to explaining Stoic concepts
Stoicism help me with many things and first is with carrying what people say about you and not caring about possesions 😊
I wear a Memento Mori ring and I see it all the time. It’s important.
So nourishing. Thank you.
I am very aware of what memento Mori means but never ever did I see a video on this that was so clear and to the point...I really got it now...thanks Ryan !!
I love this. However the one thing I'd recommend for editing this compilation is take out the multiple explanations of memento mori and how you carry the coin.
One of the best videos I have ever watched
I used to have momento mori as my quote and on a coin too but now I use Memento Vivere
Aint gona sit here and claim i figured my life out, but for dam sure i am willing to give it a messianic certain effort and finish the day i receive every morning with purpose,on purpose, and never wait for tomorrow 🙏
Now i am willing to die a man that left it all out there. No matter what i conquer or fail to, i know i will be dieing regret free🙏🙂👍
Best of good and sincere living to all🙏

Fear and Truth. It all breaks down to that. Fear is us pushing away from the Truth. Whatever your journey always do your best to find the Truth. Truth is where you find god.
