How to fix a wobbling or out of balance ceiling fan and make it silent and stable.

- I got my hands on a used ceiling fan for my tiny shop and after installing it I learned it has a wobble at all speeds and the pull chains were clinking on the globes driving me nuts. As it turns out after much investigation neither the blades nor the motor were out of balance. In fact the issue that was causing the fan to wobble was in fact a problem with the pitch of the blades. I don't know what caused the blade brackets to deform from the factory tilt, perhaps children throwing toys at the spinning blades or accidents with arms and faces are to blame. The point is that when the angle of attack is not consistent from blade to blade just the difference in the force created by each blade having its own and unique pitch is enough to cause the fan, no matter how well balanced it is to spiral into a death wobble.

i moved something and it made my fan stop.
I think i bent 2 blades...not the wood, but the bracket thing. I remember this video and noticed 2 of mine were off. Tried to bend it. Would not budge. I ended up breaking it.
Now to steal from another unused fan...or just buy new ones.
I actually put 3 of the 5 blades up and on middle speed. Not good...but will do in a pinch until i resolve it.
I thank you so much for posting this. I wasn't sure who made the video, but i remember seeing this a year or 2 ago, and had to go revisit it. Love you tube for this...love you for posting this.
Dude! TH-cam wins again. Thanks so much brother! I was able to bend my blade holders back in place by hand. Didnt offer a 100% perfect end result....but....98% is good enough for me
I got a protractor level i used to ball park (kinda hard when the fan is on a swivel) the angle of the blades, and a ruler to mesure from the ceiling. Cheap Chinese metal bends easy. No more annoying noise! How it got out of wack is me putting on a shirt in a hurry (ouch), lol. Thanks for the video and useful comments. Who needs a father when there is TH-cam?
Makes total sense. Over the years, the few good wax on each one of those blades on accident will cause them to become ever so slightly different from the rest
Im an elecrician and you da man!! Thats a penny saved! Woo
This worked for my fan. Thanks
Thank you, will check mine today. Very smart.
Oh my gosh! Thats the problem, I just took my blades off and smooth running.
very informative
You are brilliant! The kids are always tossing things into the fan. How could a fan get out of balance? Impossible unless a chunk of blade goes missing.
"Keep it simple stupid"... Bro, you stripped the fan down and weighed everything individually, what exactly is your definition of "simple"? 🤔
Bit sceptical watching this video but after checking my fan noticed 1 metal bracket was bent..not sure how that happened..anyway..bent the 1 bracket by hand and now the fan is back to it's beautiful best....thanks..👍
Gotta love quality control these days. Those original brackets were horrible.
I have this problem but my bracket size seems to be discontinued I have looked everywhere so I'm stuck with trying to bend them back to the right angle.
You can just go to any big box store and get replacement brackets? Or did you have to go back to the manufacturer of your specific fan?
that’s the cheap cast products cooling at different speed rates and warping slightly out of shape but there’s no QC on that stuff, so off to the customer it goes.
there is a way to fix it, by shaving the base surface (where the screws go) to all the same angle do they mount at the same angle.
if the blades are made of wood or other porous materials, they can also warp and twist out of shape and when they spin at high speeds it causes enough turbulence and the fan vibrates, and wobbles.
buying new parts works as well if they are made right.
Can i take my blades of and run it? Mine is stuck on it's winter and the chain broke off. the only way to turn it off is by switch but that cuts the light off.
tweed187187 replace the fan pull and w/s switch
Could always try a blade balance kit to fine tune it
Just checked my fan and it is just as wobbly without the blades or metal brackets installed. How do you fix this issue?
Gotta check the level of your fan installation. If the fan isn't level when mounted to the ceiling, it'll wobble.
Is it possible to get bad blade brackets even with a brand new ceiling fan?
Ray H yh mines shit
I bent them to the straightest and they worked better than before
My fan's top part wasn't the problem, nor the brackets presented the issue. It was the mechanical part on the top of the brackets that had 3 screws that with time, loosened up. I tight them, and my fan is all working as new again.
blade pitch
That why turn hi all the times keep fan keep low
