The most common cause of fan wobble is the pitch of the blades are not the same and the weight of the blades are not always the same ,
What I do is put a piece of masking tape on each blade and number them , Then try adjusting the pitch by twisting the blade brackets but be careful not to twist them too much , Sometimes I had to give one or two blades more pitch to balance it out , but be patient , you'll eventually find which blade needs pitch adjustment

Use a tape measure, set equal distance between the blades, measure from tip to tip. Then set each blade the same distance from the ceiling, use strings from the ceiling to set blade pitch. If blade span and pitch are all the same fan will not wobble

Think for the tip with the quarter. I am going to try that right now.

If wearing an eyepatch because of an injury, part of me wonders if the injury was fan related

Clean blades, check blade track from ceiling, adjust balance. Personally, I would have taped a dime/penny/nickel as required on the two blades opposite from the one that is marked. Whatever works--works! Your method of marking the suspect blade is great, Really cuts down on the trial & error of finding the culprit.

Aye, matey, I do agree that sometimes it be best to place the weight on the two blades opposite the "culprit." Thank you for your comment. Smooth sailin'!

So does the out of balance blade come out a bit farther than the rest ?

Aye, matey, that is correct. So ye must place the counter-weight opposite the out of balance blade.

Aye, matey, sounds like it may be getting old? However, you can try using a lubricant like 3-in-1 oil on the shaft of the motor. Put it around the shaft where it goes into the motor housing. Hopefully that will do the trick. Otherwise, you may be looking at replacing the fan.
