According to me picking and fingerpicking has got importance in its own way ,fingerpicking some classical songs makes it more colour and metal does not sounds that energetic without picking.
@@GeorgeRasoulisMusic I play Master of Puppets using fingerstyle from beginning to end and it does just fine. You can mute the strings and since the main guitar riffs are all in classic Hetfield downstrokes only mode, it isn't too hard to replicate with a muted thumb downstroke, though it is much more efficient to double thumb it. Double thumbing really makes Four Horsemen pop. On Seek and Destroy, I like to grab the strings very aggressively for the minor second trills and then use my thumb and pointer to get some pinched harmonics in the pentomic run in the signature riff. It really makes the riff sound extra aggressive, almost like you added a harmonic exciter and fiddled with the compressor to allow a more dynamic attack.... just using your fingers. Soloing... sweeps and rolls for days. Finger tapping is more ergonomic. Tremolo picking is the bane of my existence... but there are some excellent techniques for that as well, I just haven't felt the need to up that skill set. All in all, there is very little you cannot reproduce in quality and tone Even the tone and attack of the pick can either be replicated by using your nails instead of the pads of your finger, using finger picks, or just callusing up your pick hand enough and it will start sounding more like the attack of a pick. I don't know of a modern metal player that plays fingerstyle, buy listen to anything by Mark Knopfler from Dire straights to here just how versatile and dynamic and powerful fingerpicking can be.
@@krisspkriss I want to listen to it. Definitely Hetfield's riffs , won't sound the same with fingerpicking . Even his three fingers grip sounds differently and you need to downstroke everything.
I think that with finger-picking, it’s a lot easier to control the dynamics and comes more natural with the co-ordination between both of my hands, but significantly quieter than picking and also has a muddier tone. Maybe that’s due to the oils of the fingers?
For me using a pick has never felt right,it constantly wants to leave my hand, while finger picking feels totally natural,I hardly even have to think about it,I Like both but my flat picking needs help.. 😆 🤣 😂 😹
Try a Dunlop medium thumb pick!! They are incredibly diverse in their use, and some of the best fingerstyle/ flat-pickers in the world live by them, "Especially Travis/ Chet style enthusiasts". Examples: Tommy Emmanuel Chet Atkins Joe Robinson Richard Smith And many more!!
I choose to play fingerstyle not to play riffs but more idk how to say it pretty music like look up glimps of us joji fingerstyle guitar cover and watch that you'll get what I mean
The pick makes a huge difference. Thick with a rounder edge sounds softer than a lighter thin pick. Touch is another thing. Mark knophler had a very light touch while T-bone walker had a stiffer attack. I tend to use what the song requires. Nice guitar by the way.
Thing is they’re both in more of a fingerpicking style song in this (if you were to play a metal song chances are the pick would sound better as an example)
Having started out on a classical guitar i find finger picking easier. Not quite the same brightness you get with a pick but more flow to the ear. Tele fortunately seems to almost take that into account. The only fender worth owning is a tele. Nice1
I play in church with a keyboard player. I find I can only finger pick if the song is really slow or quiet. I pretty much use a plectrum most of the time.
when I was a kid I remembered someone I knew had finger picks that went around his fingers like a ring and the pick stuck out. Do people ever use those anymore? And what would they be called....
I think that lick sounds better with fingers. This doesn’t really sound like it was written for a pick. On the other hand, many songs sound better with a pick. Depends on what you’re going for
Playing with pick is limited. For example try playing the song “snowflight” with a pick, It would be impossibly difficult while it is actually one of the easiest song to play in classical music.
I play fingerstyle, but each have their limitations. A pick will give you a brighter and louder sound most always, but it's less controlled and harder to alternate with. Fingers are much more controlled, better alterations, but a warmer and more mellow sound.
You can use your fingers, but this isn't really a good representation of "fingerstyle" guitar. Since fingerstyle guitarists basically have 4 picks (most don't use the pinky much) they can play the melody & harmony at the same time like a piano -- something which is not possible with a pick.
Yeah. Ok. This Guitarist is obviously more comfortable with finger picking. You can hear it. And yes. Some things are better finger picked. And still some awesome Guitarists don't use a Pick. Jared James Nicholas (Spell 🤔). And Ritchie Kotzen
Both have their place
i wanna learn both tbh, i feel like my picking skills do need to improve in speed and in techniques and different ways of playing lol

My fingerpicking is really good but my picking is absolute utter shit, isn't picking supposed to be the "easier" of the two?

The finger picking has more soul, nice Telecaster by the way
It depends what music you play
Yep, grunge is straight pick

Like literally has more soul in the music
Can you define what "more soul," means?
Finger style is cleaner and more precise but pick has a smooth feeling to it
for me its the other way around
Pick sound is more precise and cleaner
That's a brilliant looking guitar myan
That the most average looking guitar shape lmao

This is one of the many reasons why I want to learn guitar, you can play the same songs in so many different ways.

I feel that, it just depends on the song and the way you're trying to play it
Metal always sounds great only with pick especially if you play Megadeth, Slayer, Metallica, Black Sabbath etc riffs.

Heyy i just leanred the strumming version for glimpse of us any advise where to start fingerpicking in general
I just love finger picking, feels like those strings touches your soul when done properly.
Picking is craxy hard feel like I can’t feel the strings so I never kno where I’m at
It helped me to use a harder pic and then just practice a lot. After playing some scales it should feel easier
I recommend getting a thumb pick, imo they are easier to use than regular picks so maybe that can help.

What do you call that sound the guitar makes when you are changing keys
Its 2 techniques for 2 different styles in my opinion. I can sweep with my pick but left to my own devices i'm 10/10 a fingerpicking machine

what if you had nails?
