      Thanks brother! I appreciate your kind words. Nostalgia truly is amazing. I'm blessed to have given people happiness from this video, I was barely an adult when I made this video, now I am married with two kids with many life experiences. Crazy how time flies 😅
      You sound very smart and must have a good heart caring for animals, keep up the good work in school bud! 💪

    This really helps. Thank you for your video!
    I have 2 red ear slider turtles and I just didn't know exactly how to care for em.. not saying they r in horrible condition. I just didn't know all exactly what I should feed them.
    I started to introduce them to strawberries and bananas. They also eat green leaf lettuce, and of course their turtle "food" for aquatic pets. But bugs and fish will be a great deal of help

      Hey thanks! Sorry for the late reply! Hope they're all doing well, I'm about to check out your channel if you've got videos would be great! All that sounds good, just switch the green leaf lettuce for a type of lettuce that has far more sufficient vitamins like kale, collard greens, mustard greens, dandelion, etc and I stopped doing the goldfish and stuck with mostly guppies if anything and nightcrawlers as they are far healthier than goldfish and minnows😉

  • @AlexIsModded

    I have 2 RES, and 1 RES/common map hybrid. Their diet consists of romaine lettuce, banana, strawberries, blueberries, apple, cooked chicken, nightcrawlers. We don't give them all of that every day. One morning they'll all get lettuce only, next day they'll get only blueberries, next day they'll get only chicken. We don't feed pellets since they don't eat them and they end up dissolving in the tank or getting sucked into the filters. The nightcrawlers are for my largest turtle, Sadie, who prefers live food. She also LOVES strawberries, and will hold a half in her mouth and swim back and fort with it, it's absolutely hilarious.
    Just an FYI, even though our turtles are omnivores, they have very powerful jaws, even as babies. They don't need pellets broken up, because they break their food apart on their own with their beaks and front foot nails. Their digestive systems are designed to handle swallowing their prey whole or in large chunks. I've been watching my turtles eat everything whole or nearly whole for over a decade ;)

    • @7ItalianStallion
      @7ItalianStallion  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey that's great, yeah my turtles used to love eating apples, grapes, but no strawberries they were never really that big on those, but throw some pineapple in there and they go crazy. Try it one day when you cut open a fresh pineapple just throw the core in there and they'll chew it down to nothing. Same thing with a mango seed just toss it in and even the fish will try to eat the scraps. Yeah my turtles love the turtle sticks I don't know why yours don't maybe they're just not the right total sticks LOL some turtle pellets can be really trash but the riptomen sticks seem to be really loved by most. Yeah the romaine's not bad, if it was me I would try to get them on Kale or even collard greens would be better than the romaine. There are some zucchini in there they love that too, the worms the crickets, but even more than that they love the Frozen stuff too like Frozen calamari let it out chop it up for them they can be kind of rubbery and tough to eat if it's huge they might fight over the pieces if you like seeing that but sometimes it can be a little dangerous so I would just chop it up small for them. Frozen krill they freaking love that, bloodworms I used to feed to my fish but the turtles you know they have to get in there and grab a bite of that too. Live Brine shrimp is great for the fish in the tank sometimes the turtles would try to eat them but they're kind of small so usually get live fish and they'll chase them around too. So much stuff these little dudes can eat even crawfish but that can be a little dangerous. Not all turtles are as tough is the toughest one I ever had Raphael, that turtle would eat anything that walks or swims

    any tank that is 18" wide (40 gal breeder, 75 gal, 90 gal, etc) should be fine for your turtle no matter the gender (female sliders can grow to a foot while males will max out at 8")

    ive had him for about 5 days now and he wont eat and he runs from me every time I go near the tank He is about the size of a 50 cent piece so hes obviously a baby Im not even sure what type of turtle he is either, Im worried about him not eating, Do you have any suggestions?

      Ball pythons can be a bit of a pain. Can be picky eaters and you need to constantly maintain temps and humidity

    • @7ItalianStallion
      @7ItalianStallion  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      the temps and humidity shouldn't be too hard for me as I have experience with animals that need that, but the picky eaters thing could def be a pain for me as I wouldn't want to resort to killing a live mouse for the snake if it decides it doesn't want to eat it alive.

    Its also good to feed your adult sliders and painted turtles dark leafy greens as they become primarily vegetarian as they get older. My adult female also loves carrots, peas, and squash. A little bit goes a long way though as you can give them the runs with too many peas. She goes practically berzerk for bokchoy!

    Question about the turtle dock thing...I have the same one, I was wondering if you ran into any trouble with it becoming increasingly more waterlogged, and thus not as buoyant, as it was when new? I should have got the biggest one available, but thought this one would be fine...now my turtle is about 7" carapace and it's not buoyant enough any more unless I take it and let it dry out for a couple days. My solution for now is I have attached a container beneath the dock which I add air to, which helps, but still looking for something else. I might just silicone the dock directly onto the backside of my tank, or perhaps look at some alternative products. So I guess my main question was, did you end up having any troubles with your dock? Nice turtles by the way...I would love to get another one, but worried my female slider might not appreciate the tank mates...anything that goes into her tank she figures must be food, no matter the size...even when I am doing water changes, she is trying to bite the containers and hose nozzle to see if they might be tasty, and of course, my hands lol

    • @7ItalianStallion
      @7ItalianStallion  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hahaha, I had a fish like that xD the docks are not that great. I used to stack two of the largest size dock and it worked great...when it wasn't floating around the tank from the suction cups being low grade. I recommend either stacking the docks and using some other means of attaching to the tank like you suggested with gluing, or buying a piece of cork and cutting it to fit the depth of the tank ao you can wedge it in place nice and snug.

    It is not necessary, but they sometimes need a varied meal. It's the same if you would eat an instant noodles for your whole life. I usually give them a dried food, granules, but once or twice a week I give them a life food. The turtle can really live without a life food, but it's better, if she gets sometimes also a life food.

Thanks for your help man you're seriously as sharp as they come.

    • @7ItalianStallion
      @7ItalianStallion  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey man thanks for your kind words :) I let my turtles roam around the apartment almost everyday. they love it and it seems to help with shedding because they are kept dry long enough. now i used to massage their shells with a toothbrush, but havnt in a long time. i also used to assist them with shedding white parts of their shell by scraping with a knife (carefully). i havnt needed to do this in years because their shells are so heathy. it's all about letting them stay dry long enough to dry the shell fully. my turtles still sometimes rub their shells on things too. perfectly normal and kinda funny too. looks like they're shaking their butt xD

But I breed my mealworms, I give them the baby mealies and they like them a lot. Cool turts man, i've got a yellow belly slider about 6 months old. I put some ghost shrimp in his tank and he devoured them once he got a little bigger. So a month ago i dropped 5 minnows in there thinking he wouldn't be able to catch them right away, but I was wrong. Within 3 days he had 4 of them and the other one is still in there. My turt doesn't even try to go after him, they swim together, eat together( the minnow munches on everything i drop in there), and hang out together.

    how often do you clean your tanks?

    • @7ItalianStallion
      @7ItalianStallion  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      30% weekly water change. Clean filters bi-weekly on separate schedules as to not clean all at once.

    I agree, goldfish are very fattening and can sometimes carry diseases. You should also add some large river rocks in the tank, the turtles need some things to look at and play with. I understand that a tank is hard to clean, but they need to feel at home. :)

    My baby painted turtle is picky along with my Betta fish, my painted turtle drake doesn’t like the Tera pellets, my Betta fish hates tetra Betta pellets and loves the Omega pellets made with seafood, however the turtle eating enough water lettuce and water hyacinth, even got a order of duckweed coming so at least he gets protein if he doesn’t eat anything meaty, hoping he will begin eating ramhorn snails for calcium, I am experimenting with seeing if he likes other types of turtle food pellets. I got the ph conditioned enough I could keep some live shrimp, the floating plants really dose a number on nitrate control and ammonia nearly nothing daily.

    im glad it helped you. im having alittle trouble understanding your cleaning method tho. are you saying you remove everything in the tank, clean them, then put them back in the tank? also, when you said "just remove the water and change the gravel once a month", what exactly did you mean...how much water do you replace once a month and do you clean the gravel and put it back in the tank or do you actually put new gravel in every month?

    • @7ItalianStallion
      @7ItalianStallion  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      haha, np : ) yea I do once a day and sometimes every couple days and if you feed kale or other greens everyday you won't have to worry about overfeeding as much as you would with feeding pellets

  • @7ItalianStallion
    @7ItalianStallion  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    - other 4 turtles however, do great together and will sometimes bite one another by mistake when eating, but they will let go and no damage will be done. just be observant to make sure you know what is going on and you should be fine.
    for the feeders, guppies are very healthy and easy to breed. minnows and esp goldfish are more fatty and contain alot of thiaminase that destroy thiamine (otherwise known as vitamin b1) which is VERY important to your turtle's health.

  • @7ItalianStallion
    @7ItalianStallion  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    thank you. one thing you should focus on is the cleanliness of the water. make sure the water in the tank and any new water added is treated with dechlorinater. make sure you do 50% water changes weekly and have great filtration. that can only help with the recovery of a bacterial infection. if the problem persists without any signs of progress, take it to a vet.
    as for feeding it, turtles can go a while without eating, it might not be hungry yet. offer a variety of food. i have a video on food

  • @7ItalianStallion
    @7ItalianStallion  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    hey np. just make sure you dont feed them too much shrimp or fish unless the fish are guppies. other feeders like goldfish and minnows and shrimp contain thiaminase which is really bad in high quantities. crickets and worms however, are very nutritious and can be fed as many as you like every day if you wanted :)

    Advice for the cricket keeper, throw in part of a cardboard egg box. It'll keep them busy, stop them from cannibalizing, and feed them a bit too.
    But I do have a question, how are you keeping the water so clear?? We have a filter thats more powerful than it needs to be for the tank, but cant seem to keep the water clear.

    • @7ItalianStallion
      @7ItalianStallion  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry for the late reply! Yeah I figured out how to do better with the crickets, but there's nothing you can do about that smell lol. Now the water can have the best filtration all at once, but if you're cleaning too much you're taking out the good bacteria which destabilizes the water and causes it to become murky. I recommend doing a water change bi-weekly and changing the filter on the opposite week. When you clean your filtration make sure you do it in your aquarium water. Do this by scooping out some aquarium water to start and then bring your filter and scooped out water to your sink and use that water to clean your filter and your filters inside. Do not use tap water as it kills the good bacteria which needs to remain on the sponge and the carbon and anything else that's in there

  • @7ItalianStallion
    @7ItalianStallion  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    aqua clear 110s run good, jus not with sand and i do 50% water changes weekly and be careful about overfeeding. ill make a vid when i move into my new place in 2 weeks. setting up the new 180. gonna be sweet

      no problem :) feed every couple of days and only as much as the size of their head, unless kale or collards, those are so light you can feed a few leaves :) this video is not an example of everyday feeding just so you know, it is just to show all different things they can eat. i also have made other videos that show what types of greens and frozen foods to feed :)

    I have a male slider. I fed him pellets when I first got him, he was the runt of the litter as well, so I didn't think that he'd grow too much, I then fed him a couple pieces of shrimp and he now refuses to eat pellets anymore. He will sometimes "stock up" on shirmp in a pile, is this normal? Should I add more variety to his diet as well? I've been told that you shouldn't feed some turtles fruits or vegetables but not completely sure why so. A reply would be fantastic, thank you!

    I have a cpl questions but 1st great vid! my friend was just given three painters and a 30 gallon tank maybe bigger each painter is about 3inches shell lengthany tips or info will be so helpful we really wanna take good care of them thanks a lot!
    - Suggest a good filter and what is the big one you are using
    - they are only eating meal worms (tan crusty worms) and wont eat the lil pellets
    -do you leave basking lamp always on they dont have a water heater but are getting one. im curious if they should turn off lamp at night once the water heater is in
    -and do you have to add anything to the water? they used bottled water to fill tank and after one day it gets cloudy even with the 20-40 gal filter running
    thank you so much for your time

    • @7ItalianStallion
      @7ItalianStallion  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey thanks! okay so first you are going to need to research water parameters, how filtration works, and tank cycling. there you will find the answers you seek along with the proper understanding of how an aquarium functions as a living habitat.
      tank size: at least 75 gallon or larger. 120 gallon would be perfect : )
      filtration: when owning turtles, always go with triple the recommended filtration as they are very messy. aqua clear hang on filters are great or a fluval fx5 for bigger tanks.
      food: feed them a varied diet of kale, collard greens, other veges, trout or night crawler worms, cricketsl, live or frozen shrimp or krill, and turtle pellets. now your turtles are young and young turtles tend to be more carnivorous and later become more herbivorous as they get older, but it would be good to get them on a steady varied diet. i would not give them live food for a week and only give veges every couple days. see how that works
      lights and heaters: uvb and heat mercury vapor bulb (100 - 150w) for 12 hours a day over a dry place above water for dry basking. tank water should be in the 70s.
      hope all this helped. dont be afraid to research. if there is one thing I find most important about aquariums is the size of the tank. BIGGER is BETTER. water parameters are easier to maintain and the animals are happier : )
