I played this about 6 years ago for the first time and _I_ was blown away. Like yeah, it’s not anything great compared to modern graphics but it had realistic anatomy and animation. Amazing lighting and contrast. The latter alone can make any art look realistic.
Watched the intro on a demo disc a few months before it came out and I thought no game could ever surpass it's graphics...same with ff10 that was pretty revolutionary for its time. Funny looking back at the originals..as a kid you could make our the characters faces..now as an adult they just look like a smear on the TV (your the best looking guy here 😂😂)
I feel like this is literally the perfect Final Fantasy game for Connor. Squall is exactly Connor's personality and it's just anime enough for him to not put it down.

I remember when it came out and my cousin was raving about how you could technically be the strongest character in the game at level one if only you junction your magic a certain way. It was a mind blowing concept at the time. Kind of freshened up the rpg formula, I guess.
You steal magic from monsters. You equip them to that stats that your GF allows you to. There I explained how system works. His I.Q. is 97. Thats the problem. This game was designed for small children to understand. If he doesn't get it that means he needs to redo grade 1-3 again.

Hell, you could be the strongest character in the game but if you don't junction protective magic against death, a low level enemy could wipe you out with one spell. Or if you junction certain elements to your attack you could end up healing the enemy with every attack instead of damaging. For someone who has a short attention span and not much experience with this type of gameplay, the game can become very difficult.
That's the perfect descriptor for FF8, haha. Some people just enjoy it all because they get invested, but I see so many people hover between “This is awesome” and “Damn get me out of here”, it's a fun experience at least.

Why is it, that the first question Final Fantasy fans ask each other is usually which one they hate the most? Literally the first thing I heard a friend of a friend say about her beloved series was "But whatever you do you absolutely must not play FF13!!1" when I'm pretty sure the other person would've enjoyed that one or 15 the most, knowing their taste in Anime. I didn't say anything or ask if she had even played it. These things just somehow permeate through the internet like the heart-wrenching laughing scene of FFX being "a prime example of bad voice acting". Makes me a lil angy erytiem.
The funny thing about FFX and bad voice acting is that there is questionable voice acting but the first thing brought up is the laughter scene, which is intentionally awkward and even remarked upon.

I'm kind of amazed how Connor here didn't seem to realize that 3x ruins cutscenes. While speeding through he basically wasn't reacting to anything, which kind of beats the point of doing a Let's Play. The writing in the first segment of FF8 is a goldmine of potential content, and he just kind of threw it away.
I can't wait for this to inevitably get brought up on Trash Taste considering how he spent consecutive days doing this one thing because someone bumping into him while skiing. Partly to see if it would be possible for the other two to convert him, if he actually did have a good time by the end.
I thought Connor playing Fear and Hungar was unexpected, but FF8 was definitely unexpected. Makes me wonder if he'll play another 3rd rpg game like LISA or Omori. That'll be a fun watch for either!
I loved FF7 back in the day, it was my first FF game and I had well over 300 hrs of game play and possibly over played it. I had replayed it in recent years and while I'll admit the graphics are abit clunky, the cut scenes still hold up. Was very excited when FF8 came out and couldn't wait to play it. While I enjoyed I couldn't help but be abit disappointed after playing FF7. Think I had enough when I encountered a malboro, I hadn't saved for a good few hours and it killed me. Was a frustrating fight as it hit me with every negative status and I could only watch my self die.
Some of the advice is so bad I feel bad for connor. "you need exp to level up" - the game literally has an achievement on Steam for finishing it without leveling up even once xD Mouse not explaning to him how magic stock works etc is also just sad. Help the man out a little he literally doesn't know basic mechanics of rpgs.
An enjoyable video, hope to see more of this. Only parts that were unwatchable were mouse doing the pretend screaming like a child because you didn't play how they wanted. There is no 1 correct way to play final fantasy, that's why its fun :)

As someone who's favorite game of all time is FF8, I must say that he should NOT have started out so early playing 8, he should have started with 7, 9, or even 10 since that has SET TURNS. For the way he plays it makes it very painful and hilarious to watch. He wants to speed through and button mash his way to a game that you can't do that to. FF8 is a game that can be very hard or very easy depending on how well you can comprehend and understand things. So while I am enjoying this, wish he would have played this after he did 7.
This is my fav FF game and I had 0 issues with the junction system. But after watching my friends and streamers, even I agree the beginning has to much junction stuff for how fast/linear the start is. But I may beat this game again. 😅

I'm 100% with Connor. Chat was acting like all the mechanics are super simple and easy for new players to understand. I've played plenty of different RPGs and when I tried this game, it drove me insane after just a few hours and I will probably never go back.

This is FF8, knowing wtf is happening is low on the list of priorities. It's my favorite Final Fantasy and I've beat it so many time, but I'll be damned if I could explain what actually happens in this convoluted fever dream of a game.
Perfect game for him to start with honestly. It's the most "modern" setting and rather approachable in it's themes I think. You're in a school, your off to the military. Doing mercenary work. It doesn't hit you with witches, gods and the fate of the world right away. As for the menu problems: He skipped over the tutorial. Same story as always. "Reading the card explains the card". When he asked what the cost is off just summoning GF every battle and Mouse did a giggle I just lost it. Because she probably know the story/lore for GFs in FF8. It's hilarious.

God i remember when i first played this game. my brother and i had gotten a demo disc from pizza hut and FF8 was one of the demo games on the disc Good times, ended up getting the full game for my Bday that year
it sucks that so many hate FF8. its my fav because it was the first one where the character felt relatable. i was teenager at the time, and was kind of the quiet one on the group. So when i played the game and there was this character that showed the stuff he was thinking, it was great. It was also the first one to have more realistic looking people, it had great FMV sequences and transitions, had cool Summon animations with a handy boost thing when you mash square. had a cool thing where you draw your magic which then boosts your stats if you have it linked, and you can teach your GFs stuff, it has the best intro to a Final Fantasy game ever. With the rain, and the beach and the swords landing in the ground with the music. Its has time travel, and space, and everything a growing gamer needs. And it also doesn't have the characters melt together and they just follow each other like actual people instead. its a great gam, i dont get why it gets so much hate.

When I was a kid I couldn't read English so I would skip the tutorials and learn it the Spartan way.
By the end I was able to read English.
It can't help that in order to perform Renzokuken he has to get low health to do so, which the tutorial did not indicate or inform about.

I'm kind of amazed how Connor here didn't seem to realize that 3x ruins cutscenes. While speeding through he basically wasn't reacting to anything, which kind of beats the point of doing a Let's Play. The writing in the first segment of FF8 is a goldmine of potential content, and he just kind of threw it away.
I can't wait for this to inevitably get brought up on Trash Taste considering how he spent consecutive days doing this one thing because someone bumping into him while skiing.
Partly to see if it would be possible for the other two to convert him, if he actually did have a good time by the end.

I loved FF7 back in the day, it was my first FF game and I had well over 300 hrs of game play and possibly over played it. I had replayed it in recent years and while I'll admit the graphics are abit clunky, the cut scenes still hold up. Was very excited when FF8 came out and couldn't wait to play it. While I enjoyed I couldn't help but be abit disappointed after playing FF7. Think I had enough when I encountered a malboro, I hadn't saved for a good few hours and it killed me. Was a frustrating fight as it hit me with every negative status and I could only watch my self die.
He complains like crazy about it in the intro but I knew it would win him over in the end
So excited to see my favorite game getting played, and I get to see you two bicker which just heals my heart.
Some of the advice is so bad I feel bad for connor. "you need exp to level up" - the game literally has an achievement on Steam for finishing it without leveling up even once xD
Mouse not explaning to him how magic stock works etc is also just sad. Help the man out a little he literally doesn't know basic mechanics of rpgs.
An enjoyable video, hope to see more of this. Only parts that were unwatchable were mouse doing the pretend screaming like a child because you didn't play how they wanted.
There is no 1 correct way to play final fantasy, that's why its fun :)

As someone who's favorite game of all time is FF8, I must say that he should NOT have started out so early playing 8, he should have started with 7, 9, or even 10 since that has SET TURNS. For the way he plays it makes it very painful and hilarious to watch. He wants to speed through and button mash his way to a game that you can't do that to. FF8 is a game that can be very hard or very easy depending on how well you can comprehend and understand things. So while I am enjoying this, wish he would have played this after he did 7.
I mean ff8 was the first rpg I ever played, though it did take me over 3 years to actually beat it.
This is my fav FF game and I had 0 issues with the junction system. But after watching my friends and streamers, even I agree the beginning has to much junction stuff for how fast/linear the start is.
But I may beat this game again. 😅
This ranks as one of my top three favorite Final Fantasy games. So awesome to see you experience the game for the first time. I wish I had seen this live instead of a year after the fact.
I'm 100% with Connor. Chat was acting like all the mechanics are super simple and easy for new players to understand.
I've played plenty of different RPGs and when I tried this game, it drove me insane after just a few hours and I will probably never go back.
It's really not hard to understand. Draw literally everything and just junction the spells that makes number go up the most.

This is FF8, knowing wtf is happening is low on the list of priorities. It's my favorite Final Fantasy and I've beat it so many time, but I'll be damned if I could explain what actually happens in this convoluted fever dream of a game.

Perfect game for him to start with honestly. It's the most "modern" setting and rather approachable in it's themes I think. You're in a school, your off to the military. Doing mercenary work. It doesn't hit you with witches, gods and the fate of the world right away.
As for the menu problems: He skipped over the tutorial. Same story as always. "Reading the card explains the card".
When he asked what the cost is off just summoning GF every battle and Mouse did a giggle I just lost it. Because she probably know the story/lore for GFs in FF8. It's hilarious.

Good or bad game, it was probably the worst one for a first FF game.
FFX-2 is my fav because it's so weird and I like the class system. Also don't have to worry about parties, always the same 3 characters.

When they where talking about Fira and not knowing its fire. To be fair, Mouse was pronouncing it like Feara and not like "Fye ra" so I can to a certain degree understand why Connor wouldn't know initially that its a fire based spell but that entire conversation was quite funny to me. Love the content.

God i remember when i first played this game.
my brother and i had gotten a demo disc from pizza hut and FF8 was one of the demo games on the disc
Good times, ended up getting the full game for my Bday that year
it sucks that so many hate FF8. its my fav because it was the first one where the character felt relatable. i was teenager at the time, and was kind of the quiet one on the group. So when i played the game and there was this character that showed the stuff he was thinking, it was great. It was also the first one to have more realistic looking people, it had great FMV sequences and transitions, had cool Summon animations with a handy boost thing when you mash square. had a cool thing where you draw your magic which then boosts your stats if you have it linked, and you can teach your GFs stuff, it has the best intro to a Final Fantasy game ever. With the rain, and the beach and the swords landing in the ground with the music. Its has time travel, and space, and everything a growing gamer needs. And it also doesn't have the characters melt together and they just follow each other like actual people instead. its a great gam, i dont get why it gets so much hate.
