Connor's JRPG character development over the past few years has been a sight to behold, truly. Who knew the FPS guy who skipped every cutscene in Halo 3 would then become the guy playing Chrono Trigger and reading every lore entry and Fear and Hunger?
Well, he still skips some dialogues without reading it, sometimes he's too fast and doesn't see it's a choice and he chooses by accident. But overall it remains a tremendous improvement yeah, I'm really glad he did most of the sidequests (well, they are near mandatory anyway, as he would have been obliterated by the final boss otherwise). His run of CT is pretty good, I think he explored the game better than he did for FF9 (in which he missed truly neat stuff).
@@moosesues8887 I don't really like any dragon ball designs that much besides piccolo, who is probably the best original design Toriyama has ever made, so original and inspired that nobody can even reference it without it being extremely obvious.

In the spirit of Akira Toriyama, I'd love to see how you'd react to Dragon Quest. The foundation of the series is build upon Akira Toriyama's character design, and its known as the father series of JRPGs, even predating Final Fantasy. Alas, its massively overlooked in the west, as FF was specifically marketed for the west. Its a shame its not recognized as much as FF in America, though its seemingly revered in Japan. But, that's enough background; I'd love if you'd consider a Dragon Quest game in the future. My recommendations are 5, 8, and 11 (Or the upcoming HD-2D remakes) for an introduction to the series. Each entry is standalone, and to be a little partial, Dragon Quest 8 is my personal favorite. Love your videos Connor
@@Loner098 I believe 11 to be a good starting point to the series. Story-wise, however, I think 5 and 8 are superior imo. They also happen to be good starting points
For me DQs were always very hit and miss. The best of them are great, but the others feel very dull by comparison. My favorite JRPG gamer CDawgVA. I actually stopped watching the livestreams that weekend and played Chrono Trigger myself to not get spoiled. I watched the vods a few days later.
Connor has come a long way, from skipping text to finishing ChronoTrigger. I think he is ready for the next step in narrative excellence: Planescape Torment.
I can't see him playing it, the jRPGs are pretty casual and relaxing, in Planescape you need to read walls upon walls of text to understand and appreciate the game.
I think my favorite part of Connor playin games, specifically RPGs is when he does voice overs for every character as he plays the game. The crazy part is he does the same exact voice for every specific character even for multi-day playthroughs. Makes watching, that much more fun!
After Akira Toriyama's passing I finally decided to play this game that I've had on my phone for a few years now. And after finishing it I can safely say, this is one of the best JRPG games ever made! Bravo!
I played Chrono Trigger for the first time after seeing Connor was playing it, carefully watching the VODs to avoid spoilers, and I agree it's really rare for a game to be hyped up so much and truly deliver. Even a 30 year old game.
Thanks sm for the commentary added on these shorter edits to recap everything going on, makes everything more digestible and we don't get confused/lost.
The sheer quality in Connor's voice acting made me realize how much i needed a voice acted Chrono Trigger playthrough in my life... i can't go back playing it normally after this. The trial was my favorite part, Connor just made my favorite game of all times even better with his voice.
It’s so crazy that a game made in like 1996 still holds up so much better today than even modern era games that are trying to evoke the same feelings nearly 30 years later. I’m genuinely so happy I got to grow up during the peak of the evolution of video games.
As an old head and OG Chrono Trigger lifer, I deeply appreciate you enjoying this game. It’s gotten me through a lot of tough times in my life. But I need to re-up my adderall scrip for this video. Holy shit. 😂
As someone else who just played this for the first time ever recently it’s funny how similar your thoughts were to mine. Meaning when the boss fights felt “OMG how much health does this thing have” to turn around and kill it within double digits of damage. Also I didn’t know you could crash into Lavos with the ship and ship the first stage. Pretty awesome all the different endings and how to reach them. Glad to see you enjoyed the game!
This has been one of the most entertaining playthroughs I've seen because of how Connor inadvertently proved how great the game is designed. Right when you think: Man, this fight feels like it drags- you beat it. During the trial, you're reminded of all your misdeeds, and we see Connor squirming in the chair. We never see him grind for the ultimate McGuffin because there isn't one and there isn't a grind. The only thing I would've loved is to see his reaction if you brought Magus to fight Queen Zeale
Chrono Trigger is really a special game, it is really old yet still the artstyle is so well conveyed through the pixel art, It doesn't really force on you a particular way to play it, has a lot of replay value for anyone curious to try doing little or gigantic changes in key moments, a pretty fun post game and this is without considering all that Connor shows in the video
No joke, as a cohesive experience, Chrono Trigger honestly might be one of if not the best put together RPGs period. It's just such a tightly made project with, as you said, little fluff. It's exactly what it needs to be and not one ounce more, and I freaking love it for that. It still holds up so well today for that very reason.
I remember playing this game as a highschool kid a decade ago and the story with multiple endings and beautiful soundtracks brought tears to my teenage eyes. Now I feel very nostalgic watching this gameplay.
Ive Always wanted to play this game and I even did in my childhood a little but never got around to finishing it, Thanks for playing this Connor and allowing me to experience it with you! RIP to the Goat, Akira Toriyama sensei.
I just did a similar journey last year going through all the classic best games that I missed when they came out. Less old, but I moved onto some Dragon Quest games right after. Dragon Quest 11 and Ocotpath Traveler 1 and 2 were what I played right after. It was some of the greatest months for video games that I've ever had in my life
You probably already checked out the other endings, but I really find the one where you kill Magus and Frog returns to Glenn hilarious. Lucca has no idea who he is and is thirsty as fuck for the frogman she cut down at the start of the game.
Not something I ever expected, but CT is so good. I wish everyone has the opportunity to try it out. It doesn't require a guide or extreme amount of grinding to finish the game!
Man I ❤ this game so much! Seeing this playthrough took me back to the year I found it for the SNES and spent that summer playing it/becoming immersed in the story. From that point on I made it a habit to pick it up and play it almost every summer. A great RPG

The difficult curve of Chrono Trigger is amazing. Boss fights slowly get longer and harder as you go but never so much that you get stuck. Unless you try to skip all fights, but even then the dungeon design forces you to hit some fights.
