    Good job you don't smoke around the hot diesel, Mike!

    Trouble with used bearings is that there can be damage to one of the balls which isn't noticeable until the ball shuffles around to a specific position where it's in contact with the bearing surface.
    I recall (when I was young and naive) taking a motorbike apart multiple times because of a dodgy noise from the clutch.
    On one occasion, after pulling the clutch apart, I stuck my finger in the bearing, tried to spin it and it definitely "stuck" for a second.
    I swilled it all out with diesel, blew it off with air, lubed it up again and it seemed perfect.
    Despite this warning sign, I went through the same palava another couple of times before I admitted defeat and spent the £9 (to put that in perspective, I was earning £26 per week at the time) to buy a new clutch bearing.
    After fitting the new bearing I pulled the old one apart and, sure enough, I found one ball with a tiny nick in it (probably from where I'd ham-fistedly installed it) that'd caused me problems for months and caused me to spend dozens of hours working on the bike.
    Not saying you shouldn't reuse bearings but, as Bobby DeNero famously said, "whenever there's any doubt, there is no doubt".

      when there is pitting, or the rollers are worn out, they have to go - no question about it. but actually you can maintain them quiet easy. especially the wheel-bearings and they take a lot of pressure.

    yeah, thats right- cleaning is a mess, but like you said very important. bearings can last for a long time.
    i throw bearings in gasoline, than in a bath of diesel. its incredible how much dirt is coming out. than gresase them up again and run just fine. every 3 years.
    i dont know how many years they had been in the truck before, but after 12 years me using them they had finaly to go
    very sophisticated cleaning facility 👍

    Hope you had a nice afternoon off (Jamesons?). Nice contraption, (Heinz Wolff would be impressed) can imagine the cleaning part being a pain for you, but necessary for putting the item back together like new again and also being able to salvage good bearings, shells and parts in general. Think you mean to say 'September' at the start.

      So I am determined to get this centrifuge working!
      The plan is hot diesel in the ultrasonic for almost clean parts after the mucky parts washer, though the oil filter to remove larger particals and then through the centrifuge for fine stuff then repeat
      One of the issues is the wet bead blaster - the beads are sometimes a bugger to get out - the ultrasonic gets them out, but they float about in the machine
      September?
      Almost birthday time!

      @@BritannicaRestorations Birthday time for me too - well towards the end of September! I can get that the beads might be a burger to get rid off. I'm sure you'll get the centrifuge running as you want it.

      Many years ago when I first came to Sherbrooke, a local bar sold Guinness and Newcastle Brown Ale on tap.
      Most unusual as NBA was usually sold in bottles (30 years ago)
      At the time, my mate was here from the UK, so we had a pint of NBA to try.
      It was like brown Budweiser!
      Flat and lifeless - no head, no taste, no body
      Turns out it was brewed under licence by Labatts or Molson in Montreal
      The Guinness was not much better...
      However, some locals loved it as they had not had the real thing...

    I've used HVAC circ pumps with hot diesel without any issues. They are rated to 220f so they will run continuous. The key is to ensure the pump is below the diesel source since it won't draw a head.

    • @harveysmith100
      @harveysmith100 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just to add to that, lots of heating pumps are now 12v so non electricians can legally change them. Ideal for running off of an old car battery.

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  ปีที่แล้ว

      These centrifuges need pressure not flow - they need 25 - 72 Psi to run - hence a gear pump - maybe there is a circulation pump that will do that? I have no experience.

    Sadly beer in the UK has been destroyed by the government due to tax. Many beer producers have reduced the alcohol content which has made many beers pretty disgusting, such as Carling lager. Nice to see your new filter being put to good use. Talking of bearings, I see that the former Leicester City boss who died in a helicopter accident, was due to a ceramic bearing breaking down in the tail rotor after only 330 hrs use.

    • @SteelyDavey
      @SteelyDavey ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I emailed Theakstons telling them not to reduce Old Peculiar alcohol content. I'm not buying any of the beers that have been watered down. The Conservatives are just a con, they don't conserve anything.
