    Structural engineers were on site testing the structural integrity of the pier….as it falls into the water with them on it. You can’t make this stuff up.

      this climate change bullshit never ends as you say it has been there for many years. im 69 and it was there in the 60s and no doubt before that. stuff gets old when it has been in the ocean for ever and has to be replaced. like all government agencies they never have money for upkeep but always have emergency money to fix the catastrophic damages

    • @sumiland6445
      @sumiland6445 9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      No, it's not failing infrastructure. It's the force and direction and height of the swells. The pier usually doesn't take hits from the side. It's meant to head into the swells. Storms way out in the ocean can produce some terrifying swells. Glad everyone's okay. What a loss. Santa Cruz has taken some heavy hits from natural disasters. Strong community. 💜

      Yeah I ride my bike over there all the time and that entire section was dilapidated and fenced off. the entire structure had dropped 2-3 feet in the calm summer time and the restaurant was condemned for a while. either the pylons deteriorated or the sub marine soil had eroded underneath it. but that scares me for the rest of the wharf.

      And as far as USA coastlines, nothing Atlantean about the Atlantic. When I moved from east to west many many years ago and ran out to the beautiful surf expecting the soft warm lazy swoosh, I got beat to shit by the ice cold ripping waves and thrown across razor-shelled tidal pools into the washed up kelp and mussels. I've never forgotten the irony of the names of the two seas slapping North America.
