America… East Coast people stand and watch a woman burn to death without helping. West Coast people stand on a collapsing pier and refuse to leave until they get some crab to eat.
What a phenomenal interview Mr. Jessie! Wow! Very Informative, Great Questions, and most of all, very Compassionate! Thank God the daughter was paying attention in that area, and informed her mother! Sheesh!
Santa Cruz holds a special place in my heart. Growing up there, I have fond memories of fishing on the Wharf as a kid and, later, busking as an adult, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere, delicious restaurants, and stunning views. One moment that stands out is from the winter of '62 when I saw a large sailboat washed ashore on the beach nearby. It was a powerful reminder of the beauty and might of nature-a lesson Santa Cruz has always been good at teaching.
most of the money goes into the pockets of the city workers esp the top guy and their crony contacting firms. the rest of it funds the drug addicts and other wasteful initiatives. Typical American city fleecing the tax payers.
The lifeguard station is right there on that wharf. They were doing construction so… maybe it’s just rotting away. Was there two months ago, been there a lot. That candy shop is a money maker! Super pricey. Great tourist spot.
"those walking closest to water get their feet wet first " means if you do something like stand by a fire don't be surprised about being burnt soon after. build by water and estimate the years, simple as that, some things are inevitable.
Why? For working on a warf already compromised by winter storms from 2 years prior? And still getting beaten by KING TIDES DURING A HIGH TIDE? Get some education please. This was a LITERAL force of NATURE!🤦♀️
Because it’s Santa Cruz, the hold up was they want to make sure the wood used for the construction was 100% recyclable and biodegradable, and all new stores in that section of the wharf sell paper straws only.

@marcydrake9159 you know what is even weirder, folks you get triggered by the opinions of others just for the simple fact that said opinions don't align with the way they think or their personal agenda so maybe YOU should move to another realm
THe mom says that she works there everyweek and didn't expect this happening there. To me that sounds really really dumb because I always think it is only a matter of time before the whole thing collapses esp in this kind of weather. I won't work there or have a business there. BTW, these businesses have made millions and millions overmso many years. It is not like these business owners are going to be in any financial trouble. The workers will face severe financial hardships if and when that whole thing crumbles. They better be prepared for that day.
I'm not sure if that's sarcasm but trust me that is not representative of most Californians. she sounded like she was stuck in her 7th grade cheerleading outfit.
Used to be a building that sold bait a long time ago I think. Hope it wasn't the restaurant. Spent every Sunday with my daughters there after beach time when they were growing up. We left California in 2017.
I live here, I haven’t gone on that time bomb in 15 years. Destined to happen, probably all of the repairs are made from recycled, toilet paper rolls. What do you expect?
If it had happened 2 weeks ago a new wharf could have been included in the federal stopgap bill along with a 600 million dollar study of environmental impact of fish populations from building a new wharf
I'm fourth generation Californian ... here's a complete study for fish population after replacing the pilings...first muscles and barnacles will attach themselves to the pier pilings and create a food source to help the local fish population THRIVE.... HAPPY NOW?
They were already reconstructing that portion of the wharf, which is why there were construction workers and equipment on it when it collapsed. It was damaged in a storm surge almost exactly a year ago, and they already had to demolish a 50 year old restaurant that had been sitting there. The building that fell in (and which ended up sitting at the mouth of the San Lorenzo River) was a public restroom. The work was evidently not advanced far enough to shore it up against today's surf.
@rickyhammer6832 That's what they were doing? Because it was physically impossible to fix the top without fixing the bottom first? Because the project was being run by professionals who know what they're doing and don't need amateur advice from randos online? Especially not ones who end declarative sentences with question marks?
🤔 I’m gonna guess scared. How do you think the people on the Titanic felt floating along in that icy water? Since we’re asking random non sequiturs…. 🤷♀️

How much a year does that city rake in in property taxes alone, they can't maintain their pier? 3rd world state.

Santa Cruz is my home turf. People go through all kinds of crazy stuff there every year. This is just another.
Were you able to get along with all the vampires OK?
@richardpark3054 zero vampires
Prob collapsed because of all the weight of the construction equipment.
Sure… totally not because of the many storms that it year with little to no repairs each time and don’t forget how it is made out of rotting wood
