  • "But what's that a first round at UTR9.4 (3/6)?" The empire explained everything to me, Emmanuel UTR9.4 (French 3/6) is champion of Paris it is the best ranked of the 8 qualified in Paris area so he must meet the lowest ranking (me) at UTR8.3 (FR 15/1). Following a rule of protection of the best ranks (a kind of seed). Then UTR 10 (FR 2/6 and 1/6) make their entry in 1/4 (in +50)
I don't know it when I start the match but I still think this guy plays well for a ? UTR8 (FR 15 or 5/6) ?? As the atmosphere is very relaxed I end up asking him the question at the end of the first set. I'm not so surprised but I also tell myself that if I can hold on ... well maybe I can do better than in the first set!
Emmanuel takes advantage of every opportunity to put a maximum intensity with his forehand, his very slice backhand is low and at some point gives the impression to sink into the ground. I quickly decided that I had to maintain a certain intensity but let him play his game, exhausting himself, while still managing to protect myself. The problem is that he burns energy but he misses very little and even comes to the net with authority as soon as I defend with less intensity.
The equation is not simple : hold, hold, even if I have to travel a bit on my baseline and then be opportunistic to create opportunities towards the net by not hesitating to play my forehand down the line because he protects his backhand a lot... Otherwise, I'll serve to avoid double faults, but I'm still not confident enough to serve flat. So I just have to deal with it...
A match where we don't do each other any favors, which doesn't prevent courtesy at any time. A match in a perfect spirit. A good moment of pleasure, that's why we play tennis, right?
