I love that song, heard it for the first time from Alison Krause in "O brother where art thou'?", film made by Ethan & Joel Coen. This version is awesome!
Has anyone noticed how, in pretty much all of Philip's arrangements, he gives himself a solo every time? I mean, I love him, and the group, and his arrangements, I just felt it was worth mentioning...
Their blend is PHENOMINAL. If you listen really hard, you can hear him when it's just the trio at 0:54, but he's sandwiched inbetween Paul and David, so it's quite hard!
One doppelganger you guys have missed is Paul Phoenix :: Robbie Keane (Irish soccer player). And although I've been watching/listening to this song for several years, today was the first time that I noticed the title is "Down TO the River..." while the lyrics are "Down IN the river..." Weird.
@schafernewman - That is why music is a universal language. While it's an "American" song, anyone can sing it. I'm a music major in college and everything I sing by Mozart, Bach, Haydn, etc. isn't "American." I'm singing about that culture's traditions, events, heartbreak, and joy. Folk music from other countries in enriching. I say kuddos to TKS for managing to perform it so well! :) But I understand your belief, too.
Impressive harmonization of a spiritual traced to an anonymous writer in the collection _Slave Songs of the United States_, edited by William F. Allen, Lucy Garrison, and Charles P. Ware (New York, NY, USA: A. Simpson & Co., 1867).
@TheChange1961 not sure how that make isaiah a gospel really tho it is foreshadowing of the gospel in essance but the gospels by deffinition are the 1st four books of the new testiment which is what i was reffering to. ur making a slight assumption here that i implied that theres a "right" way of baptism i would say thats not the case and yes we are baptized by the holy spirit but this emersion baptism is simply a visual commitment almost like a pact in a way
@TheChange1961 isaiah 66:17 is not part of the gospels...prayer is to be said in private but is not wrong done in public as well on top of private prayers (which are neccessary) furthermore baptism is not prayer its a sign of commitment to christ. this song is a followers private prayer combined with their telling of their baptism. i suggest u should look further into what the gospel is with all due respect and btw very good referencing just make sure u arent prooftexting
im not really sure how i feel about a bunch of brits singing this... doesn't seem quite as authentic. this is a very american song. not to hate or anything, just saying...
Love the guys singing it! But I still hate the song... I had to sing it I choir last year I got the solo but for some reason I do not like this song at all
This song should really be sung by American women, not by a bunch of white English guys, but they do their best. (White English guys are absolutely brilliant at singing certain types of music, but not...um...this.)
The highest tenor on the left is absolutely astounding. Wonderful.
The purity of their voices and their control is absolutely amazing.
I used to listen to the King's Singers when I was about 8 years old... Truly inspirational!
David's voice is simply beautiful. There's no other word for it.
best version of this song I've ever heard ! Fabulous !
BABY CHRIS GABBITAS. Omg that is so adorable! And he's singing so high.

love this version :)
They have a phenomenal blend, oh my God...
1 of my favorite songs!

dude on the right next to vanilla ice looked like mr bean!! lol i agree i could not stop laughing
2:00 gave me serious goosebumps. Awesome!
I love listening to males that can sing soprano and falsetto. It's so interesting to hear them go that high.
Meraviglioso.
Thank you Oetjepoef...
@slmacd1 yea they sang it in Charleston right after Winnipeg. Great then too.
Oh Lordy, men. You know I love you. I even sung with you, once. You gotta give us those American vowels. This piece doesn't want an iota of High Brit.
nice!!!

That one bass looks like Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson) it's kind of funny!
many southerners, your forefathers were Brits ....so you would have sounded like these talented fellows! xo
Dat counter tenor! :D
Do Robin and David sing in unison a lot? I find it really hard to pick out Robin's part, maybe they're just blending super perfectly, i dunno :)
2:04. Oh my God, I just died and went to heaven.

Yes it is, it's a spiritual.
I thought the one who frequently gets a solo is paul?
When men go into freezing cold water 0:53
Mr. Bean is my fav
You should hear him in Hallelujah, he gets a good bit higher.
@daintyWatch This version is very good, but you can't beat Alison Krauss' rendition. If you haven't listened to it I strongly recommend it.

British men singing a Negro spiritual, can this get any better!
@joecook91
Alison Krauss' version ist really good, but I still like the Kings Singers' version a lot more :-)

Mr Bean??
i just got rick rolled into watching this by some random person
Weird to hear a bunchof brits sing this, but they did a fantastic job
Except Paul :D
@TheChange1961 its a christian song about baptism....not a KKK song haha
This song doesn't belong to any one race of people! This song belongs to God it's simply on loan to us!!
You should be grateful.
frankly I'm pissed off
It's too fast!!! Slow the song down ...
im not really sure how i feel about a bunch of brits singing this... doesn't seem quite as authentic. this is a very american song. not to hate or anything, just saying...

I must say, the king's singers were a bit too proper for once. Normally they put a good amount of soul into this kind of stuff.
ummm this song is not the inspired word of God it's not holy or nything just saying...
NECROPOST.
Did anyone else think the bass was a little flat at the start of the piece?
It can happen to any singer or group. Not a major crisis.
the guy on the right looks kinda scary
Not much emotion

Not if they sing it so well....
This must be a KKK super hymn, or what?
Wtf are you talking about???
ha. they have bad teeth.
Show me yours.
Only Chris has bad teeth -.-
Let's see yours
Thank you Oetjepoef...
