Thanks for the recognition and reacting to Band-Maid and Konami. One of the most dynamic, talented rock bands in the world today. They go unnoticed largely because of a language barrier. It's truely sad what the entire world is missing.
@@mr.sorenzoalso too many default to oh they are Japanese=anime which is lazy, IMHO. Bandmaid is incredibly talented and their music covers a broad spectrum
@@mr.sorenzo In Japan, anime songwriters and bands that perform songs get a percentage of anime rentals, which is very prestigious and a good income. Anime is a multi-billion dollar industry, so what's wrong with musicians being able to make money? :)
@@Olkam-w5uabsolutely nothing. Specially in the current state of music industry where the artists are getting ripped off left and right. Nothing good comes out from being a music snob…so irrational
The one thing that sets Kanami apart (along with some other Japanese artists) is that she is not a songwriter like how we think. She is a composer. She writes all the parts, lead and rhythm guitar, drum, bass, and vocal melody. She then will get input and further help from the rest of the band and then Miku or Saiki will add lyrics. This keeps her songs from falling into the classic music trap of instruments following each other to create a song. Rather she crafts distinct parts that fit together like a puzzle and can diverge and change and still come back together to create a sound completely unique to them.
@@outwest1014 yeah raad it, she doesnt fully write the finished product but she does compose outlines or asks for the parts from others and arranges them but in the beginning she did write all the parts and some of times they were too complicated to actually play in person. You can hear in interviews where Akane will talk about her drum parts needing 5 arms to play or Misa saying her bass lines were difficult but that pushed her to keep practicing until she was able to play them without looking. Now it is more collaborative but in the beginning she definitely did the lions share.
@@outwest1014 No idea why you would think that from interviews. There are many where Akane says for some songs she makes no changes to the demo because the drums were programmed so perfectly; additions or changes by Akane will typically be for reasons of technique, but if she thinks up a cool pattern she'll ofc send it back to Kanami (and knowing Kanami, she'll try hard to incorporate it into the song, or make a new song out of it). Yes, Misa has carte blanche from Kanami, but it didn't start out that way (I think it's been some 3-4ish years now that Misa has been composing the bass lines). Misa also works within a song structure that has already been fleshed out by Kanami so that she understands what the latter is looking for; even so, Misa's bass writing is sublime.
Congratulations on hearing your favorite band for the first time. Don't worry about being "late" to the party, you're here and that's all that matters. I admire this band because they had a dream, they chased it, they overcame early challenges but to do it they didn't exploit or sexualize themselves instead they did it the right way on raw talent and ability.
@@mr.sorenzo What they did exploit was their humbleness, connection between band members and their fans, the different humor/quirks that they all possess, the never-ending journey to improve themselves and the gratefulness of each other and their fans. They have the garage band vib of their formation.... an ex-idol pigeon (Miku, red rose) has dream of cute girls in maid costumes playing hard rock, so she searched for a guitarist on the internet (Kanami)... then the guitarist knew a drummer (Akane) who had a friend in music school who played bass (MISA), and they embarked on the goal of world domination. But early on, the pigeon realized her voice just wasn't right for the band, so the search went on for a vocalist which led them to Saiki (blue rose). In turn they realized the needed another guitar player, so instead of adding a new member, Miku went guitar shopping and then asked Kanami to teach her how to play. If you pay close attention to their 1st MV, "Thrill", you'll notice she does do much playing. She's had to learn most of her chops while playing under the pressure of live performances. With her developing skills it has allowed Kanami to dream bigger for her musical compositions. It wasn't until their 3rd album that they recorded a song that wasn't already written for them. Kanami took a lot of "No's" before that, but since then it's been all Band Maid. If you have free time, or as some reactors have done reaction videos, to watch the 7-part docu-series on each member of the band from Ohrenje. Many of us Maidiacs have watched them numerous times which in turn has strengthen our bonds with this wonderful band. The song Gion-cho was the second part of an elaborate April Fool's joke, the 1st part came with the song, "Secret Maiko Lips". One last point, they have over 130+ songs which many of us fans feel that there are no "fillers". 🤘
This is my favorite band in my lifetime, and I started with Little Richard live in 1957. Thanks for the reactions and welcome to Band-Maid. New subscriber.
Hello and thank you for listening to this band. Kanami for me is a complete guitarist, she is not technically the best guitarist in Japan, but her composition skills are out of the ordinary, you will notice it by continuing to listen to their songs and focusing on each instrument. The important thing about this band is that it is thanks to a drummer, a bassist, a singer and a guitarist/backing vocalist out of the ordinary that Kanami can compose the songs that we love and appreciate so much. The whole band is spectacular and they have zero ego! Akane (drums) is personally my favorite.
Amadeus Kanami is THE musical composer of the 21st century; while her guitar playing skills are extraordinary, Band Maid is the best band in the world due to the catalog, 140+ compositions that rival any band any time frame. Her music writing ability is unparalleled.
Welcome to Band Maid, my friend. As a guitarist myself, I can tell you that the qualities that separate Kanami from the pack are her compositional abilities and her humility. Example? The truss rod cover of her signature guitar. She chose the band’s logo instead of her name. When asked? She said the logo might appeal to a larger audience, because she thought not many people would recognize her name. “From Now On” is the song I use to introduce the Maids to metalheads and music snobs. It’s their statement piece and what they often choose to open festivals with. From a musician’s standpoint, there are some incredibly interesting songs that are custom made for people with ears to hear: “Blooming,” OMV “Moratorium,” LIVE “Daydreaming,” OMV (ballad/alt-rock) A heads-up: Band Maid are fearless songwriters. The only formula for their songs is to play whatever feels cool in the moment. This means it’s impossible to either love or hate everything they do. 👍🏽
Great video! Those four songs give a good introduction to the band. I saw them in Seattle, anything you see in a music video they can play live. Besides being a shredder, Kanami was also the main composer for all four songs.
I also saw them in Seattle. Also some other Japanese groups. Babymetal, Kikuo and Atarashii Gakko. Band-Maid and Atarashii Gakko were the best shows for very different reasons. Band-Maid played the best and Atarashii Gakko had the most charisma.
I’ve seen Band-Maid live more than I’ve seen any other band, and I’m old, and they aren’t. Kanami sometimes loses herself in what she’s doing, and when she does, it’s a real treat. She’s very special, as are the rest of the band, to be fair. If they come to play within 1000 miles of you, do yourself a favor and go see them.
Thanks for the recommendation! Seeing them live is certainly on the to-do list now! And you’re not old. No fan of Rock n Roll ever is! Firm handshakes 🤝🏼
I am 55 years old , and Kanami takes all the music I have listened to in my lifetime mashed it up and put it back together to make brilliant songs. I don't know how she knows exactly what I want to hear. As they have toured the U.S. , I am hoping they come back so I can see them!
Welcome, Sir. Band-Maid are not the outcome of a hype. These ladies have worked their way up from humble beginnings through incredibly hard work, steely determination and stellar talent. They've got a world-wide fanbase - the Maidiacs - who wants nothing more eagerly than genuine (hard-)rock - and this band never ever disappoints them. On the pitch now for over eleven years, same(!) line-up and still getting and better. What a marvelous journey this is.
Good reaction, gets a sub from me! I've spent a fairly ridiculous amount of money on the Maids since discovering them four years ago, including seeing them live 3 times. The pigeonhole awaits you, po!🤘Oh, and Kanami is such a humble talent that she always keeps her solos short and to the point. I also have wished occasionally for a longer shred fest, but Band-Maid are unique in their approach to composition. Essentially you have Miku, the founder of the group and second vocalist, holding down the chord structure of the song on rhythm guitar, while Akane (drums), MISA (bass) and Kanami play parts that would qualify as a solo for most other bands, throughout the entire song. The melody line of the vocals that Saiki delivers would be impossible to guess sometimes from the instrumental parts alone. And somehow, by some wizardry they are able to make it all come together in a unique blend that is supportive and complimentary to the whole, without any toes being stepped on. I don't know how they do it, but the result is an insane level of repeatability. You're as likely to hear something new on your twentieth listen, as your first. They can melt your face, make you grin from ear to ear or bawl your eyes out at any moment. A once-in-a-lifetime group to be celebrated and protected at all costs.
I'm wearing my 2022 US tour T shirt today. On Oct 12th of 2022, this band played in Seattle Wa. I waited 3 yrs to see this band live. My expectations were high... ...they did not disappoint, and in fact, they left me wanting more !! 😏❤️🎙🎸🥁😎🤘

That pink axe - legendary! Really wonderful vid, and content like this warms my soul (and ears). You're obviously a great guy with an open mind (can reach across culture/language barriers) who cares deeply about music. Kanami is a truly talented guitarist who will attract fans who esp focus on melody. What makes her really special however is her songwriting, as in "From now on." I honestly don't think there's a genre of rock that Kanami cannot compose in (and as a credit to her bandmates, there's not a lot at this point that they cannot handle). But it's her musical imagination that's off the charts, and makes even Band-Maid's throw-back nostalgic classic rock songs sound modern. And it's hard to talk about Kanami without mentioning that she and all of her bandmates, as talented as they are musically, are heart-of-gold human beings with literally zero ego, who cherish their fans. This is a band whose sound and humanity are hard to resist; the joy they create is weirdly even greater than the sum of the music.
The maids are magic. This magic is only truly unlocked however with time, as it's the combination of musicianship, spectacular songwriting, and music that is just full of joy that make them what they are - and the fans like we are. I'm sure to many folks, the passion of the Maidiac community might seem overblown - but there's real reason why they have such a devout, cult like following, and that's because they've changed our lives - they are so uplifting and these times call for that. They also bring back the joy that many of us older folk used to feel with bands like Deep Purple and Uriah Heep in the early 70's, but without copying the past. Kanami, for all of her guitar chops, is an even better composer. That only fully hits though when you're on song number 72 and realize that they've all been very good to holy crap what a great song. Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for checking them out! Spread the word, cause there are many more people that need the joy and positivity, without sacrificing complexity and nuance, that they bring to the table.
Also, I envy you. As I sit here, a 73 yr old dude who was fortunate enough to see all the great bands, live, ( we had it good- saw Zep in "77 for $5 for ezample)and after seeing Band Maid in Austin in a podunk club slay like no other, I think of my rabbit hole journey catching up to 10 years of fantastic music. Yeah I envy you. Have a blast young man.
All my respect to you sir for still going out and keeping life interesting with Rock n Roll! Zep is an amazing band too and our generation is still enjoying their songs! I haven’t seen Band Maid live! Keep going out and keep having the fun! 🫡
Kanami Töno is an amazing musician/composer. While she shares composing credit with her fellow Band-Maid members, she is Band-Maid's primary composer. She is an excellent keyboardist having studied piano since pre-school, and picked up guitar while in high school music club, mostly self taught. Yes, her solos are short, but they are concise and very expressive. Her general guitar work is the texture that underpins a Band-Maid song, often going unnoticed until a second or third listen, when you notice the everchanging riff underlying the vocals. One of Band-Maid's best features is that no one member of the group is *"The Star",* every member of Band-Maid brings a lengthy skillset to the enterprise. Saiki and Miku are both skilled vocalists and lyricists. Akane is a force of nature on the drums. Misa is one of the best bass players you'll ever encounter. Saiki learned to play piano well enough to accompany herself solo in concert. Miku worked hard under Kanami's tutelage to become a fine guitarist in her own right. They all collaborate on their backing tracks. Misa, Kanami, and Akane all do MIDI programing and trade files while composing.
Nice. Now you know that PRS didn't just hand over a signature guitar to the first cute Japanese girl they could find. Kanami has paid her dues in the music industry for over 11 years now. She is a great guitarist and a fantastic composer who has the freedom to write basically anything she wants because of a super talented, ego-free supporting cast that works so well together. BAND-MAID has a top notch catalog of over 130 songs and you'll be hard pressed to find even one stinker in the entire bunch. Thank you for giving them an honest listen. I'm glad you enjoyed them. If you decide to continue reacting to them, I suggest watching more of their official live videos. 😁
Welcome to Band Maid! As good as Kanami is, and she's an all-around talent as you can see from the comments so far, what truly sets this band on another level is that they are all fantastic musicians who share the spotlight and they each shine in almost every song. But please, keep the spotlight on Mincho for a while!
Saw your video asking about Kanami now you see why we love this lady she is an incredible incredible talent. There are many great guitarists and she is amongst them but it is her amazing compositional skills that cause her to stand out in her field. So welcome to your new favorite band.
@ You are so very welcome, as a suggestion that is different from your top four recommendations is the official live version of Daydreaming it is beautiful but it rocks as well I promise you will love it.
@@JBVandriver136Daydreaming is unmissable, and for a bigger change of pace try the acoustic version of Sayonakidori featuring a cut down version of the band (Miku on guitar and vocals, MISA on bass and Akane on drums and backing vocals) - it's utterly beautiful.
Band-Maid is a hidden gem. Every single lady in this band is really talented and together they are epic. Not since I started in listening to bands like Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, and Judas Priest back in the 70's, have I enjoyed finding a new band as much as when I discovered Band-Maid. Personally, I find they are much better Live.
Hi again! Great video. I hope you keep uploading more content about this captivating band. BAND-MAID (and KANAMI) is so interesting to listen to, almost all of their songs are different and of such high quality ... It’s fascinating how seamlessly they blend genres. I know your channel isn’t fully focused on reactions but it would be amazing if you could react to a full song video. And yes, they are great live😄
Band Maid is the best hard rock band in the world for the last 10 years!!!By far!!! Kanami is the best guitar player in the world!!! She is a guitar Queen!!! Thanks for your reaction.
Nice comment about the songwriting. I'm sure others have mentioned it, but it's Kanami who writes and directs Band Maid's music (rhythm guitar/second vocal Miku writes the lyrics). In so doing, Kanami organizes maximum creative input from the others, creates backing tracks, and does the demo production before the studio work. Her guitar play, as important as it is to their music, is not her biggest contribution. The fans and musicians - and PRS - who honor Kanami have come to know this, so that she is held in higher esteem than her playing alone would justify. She also seems the perfect lady off stage: humble, demure, civil, and kind, with exemplary manners. PRS and other sponsors needn't worry about being embarrassed by Kanami. You should do in depth reactions to Corallium Live at Shibuya Eggman and Black Hole Live (from an online concert). The complexity of the arrangements in both are amazing. (Black Hole is the second song in a two song video. Starts about 4:10.) (The Corallium recording has received a lot of post-production work but still retains the live excitement.)
@@daaaaaave welcome back friend! That’s a great feedback you brought up. I thought not to make the video too long for people, that’s why. But you’re right, good music has to be left as is from beginning to end
That is a great selection of songs to give a good overview of these talented musicians. Would add Blooming, Shambles, Daydreaming, Rinne, Manners, Different, Onset
MISA! MISA! MISA! Holding the Line in Solid Guitar Rock, Band Maid has picked up the Mantel of Rock'n'Roll where the West has left it behind! And dude, that cave must have been Deep!! Japanese Rock and Metal has just exploded over the last Decade and anyone who has not been looking East is falling behind!! More Band Maid Always!! Po!
A lot of Kanami's solos are pretty short. But they hit hard. imho, her best was on a song called Day Dreaming. Just the emotions that she puts into it are just beautiful. And they are just as good, if not better Live than recorded. I got to see them in 2022 and it was the best show I have ever seen. They have a deep catalogue and they just keep getting better and better. It is well worth the deep dive. Each lady in that band is extremely talented, and they all have moments where they shine. They are humble and care about their fans. There is nothing like Band-Maid.
@@mr.sorenzo Oh no, I'm definitely not a musician. I just started to really like Korean Kpop music in 2012, which led to an interest in Japanese Jpop music, and then to Japanese Heavy Metal which lead to me to Band Maid. Once you get interested in the Asian pop and rock music scene, it pretty much opens a whole universe of music you were not even aware of. It's life changing, in a way.
Just a quick 2¢, If you end up checking out more of their music via TH-cam or on your own time. You'll discover that Kanami's play style isn't self serving, so you won't come across long ego driven guitar wank solos. Her solo's are tasteful display of artistry showcasing a peek into her talent but remaing within the theme and framework of the music that ALWAYS services the song and leaves the listener wanting more. Thank You for your content and Welcome to Band-Maid!!!!! ❤️💛💚💙💜
Gotta admit, at first I thought this was a disingenuous attempt to gain views. But then you went about it in the least effective way of doing that: showing only snippets of some of their best-performing-for-reacters songs. So I figure you're legit, so I'll give you at least my opinion of them. Fanbases are prone to hyperbole, and the "Maidiacs" are no exception. The number of bands I've listened to in my (too) many years is miniscule against the number out there performing even just in 2024. That said, of all those I HAVE listened to, no band has a catalog like BAND-MAID's, particularly after their original label started letting them write their own music. The consistent level of quality shows just how hard they work for their fans. No lazy album filler here. Hard Rock is home base, but goodness they love to stray, sometimes with entire songs, sometimes down to an 8 measures section. And they can play them all. Kanami structures songs which are surprising and familiar at the same time, giving you what you want, but not how you tend to expect it. Like no other band, listening to BAND-MAID songs just makes me... happy. Irreplaceable band.
Thanks heaps for sharing. Tbh I was conscious of the length of the video, that’s why. But you have a good point about doing the songs justice by playing them completely 😊
Yeah, some BAND-MAID fans throw around the word "best" a little too freely. I prefer to use the word "favorite" instead. They are my favorite band of all time. 😁
Congratulations 👍 You're on your way to becoming a "MAIDIAC." I love and respect all five members of BAND-MAID. The one that impresses me the most is MISA; sometimes referred to as the Barefoot Assassin. I just call her my inspiration for picking up the Bass guitar for the first time at age 54. As a guitarist, though, you should check out the rhythm guitarist Miku Koboto. Before forming BAND-MAID, she never played an instrument. She originally had herself as the lead singer. After she found Kanami Tono on TH-cam, she asked Kanami if she knew of other musicians that would be a good fit for this band that she was forming. Kanami reached out to Akane Hirose (Drummer), and Akane reached out to her friend MISA, whom she knew from school. Once they got together, they realized that Miku's voice was too soft. They eventually came across Saiki, and now they had a phenomenal band. It was suggested that one of the two singers should become a rhythm guitarist, and Miku eventually took the job. It was Kanami who taught her how to play. Miku now has her own guitar with and is an official representative of Zemaitis Guitar of Japan. It's called the "Flappy Pigeon." Miku often calls herself PO!, which means Pigeon in Japanese. Hopefully, you found this little introduction informative. There's so much more to learn about BAND-MAID, but you'll have to do that on your own. They're worthy of the research. As always, stay happy healthy and safe. Enjoy your day and always Keep Smiling. 👍😃🫶
@@rodl.miller3353 You picked up the bass at 54! Firm handshakes sir🤝🏼 how is bass playing going? And thanks for sharing. I’ll check out Miku’s work as wel
Everybody talks about Kanami, but for me the real secret weapon behind BAND-MAID is the duo of MISA (bass) and Akane (drums). Imo one of the best rhythm sections in today's rock music. There are some live videos with guitar bass battles and for me MISA wins every time. :o But i love all these young women. They are one off the epitomes of the future in rock music. Sorry for my bad english and greetings from germany. :)
Greetings friend! You’re English is just fine! You’re right! The bass and drum’s synchronicity is the backbone of any good song. People always underestimate the importance of it, and not many people know this. Do you do music?
Without a doubt that their understanding and respect for Kanamis compositions do a bit too! I guess it's why she don't claim the credits for the songs? She values their additions to the songs so much.
@@mr.sorenzo Yes, I played bass for over 30 years. But after seeing and listening to MISA, I threw my bass out the window. Above all, her composition technique is from another world. Just kidding! It was health problems that made me stop.
Just got back from Japan today, 11/30. Caught their back to back ZEPP Haneda shows on the 25th and 26th. Two spectacular shows. It's amazing how they just seem to get better and better at every Okyu-ji (what they call their live shows. Which translate to "serving"). The other thing to point out, is during this 4 show ZEPP tour, they played all 14 songs from their new album "Epic Narratives". Some bands do this because they want to promote their new album, but more often than not, fail as the songs don't always resonate with their fans that love them for their "classic" songs. I've been to and have heard people complain about not loving shows as they didn't know/like the new songs. Not Band-Maid, they just reload. And the concerts were amazing! Yes, they added 8 (9 in the last Haneda show as they didn't play "Show Them") "older" songs, but if it was just a concert of the 14 songs from the album...it would still have been a kick 🍑show. Now ask the Maidiacs to come up with a setlist of 8 (or 9) songs they would have wanted to be added. I think you'll be amazed how many different songs would be mentioned. BTW, the Maids used 12 songs to fill the "open" slots in their ZEPP tour: 4 shows: "Endless Story", "No God", "Domination", "After Life", "Choose Me", "Unleash!!!!!" 2 shows: "Sense", "Hate?", "Alone" 1 show: "Play", "Influencer", "Don't You Tell Me" Let's look at it in another way. Band-Maid put together a 33 song setlist for their 10th Anniversary Tour Finale at Yokohama Arena. "Hate?" you reviewed, was from this show. Well technically 32 songs as one song was played in 2 different styles. A total of 3hrs and 40mins of amazing entertainment. They follow that up with a spin-off finale show to include other songs they wanted to include in the show but didn't make the first setlist. That setlist was 23 songs, of which 18 were different from the first setlist and 1 song which was done in a different style (full electric vs acoustic). So 50 song in 2 concerts...and still didn't have another 20ish or so I wish would have made the set list.
Kanami is my favourite songwriter but you didn't say anything wrong in your first video. There are sadly plenty of musicians who don't know about Band-Maid yet. You speculated that PRS made this move to increase their popularity in Japan, which I disagreed with because there are other guitarists they would have chosen if that was their goal, but it was a perfectly reasonable thing for you to think. Thanks for responding so positively to the comments and checking them out.
He didn't say anything wrong, but I think he could have done 5 minutes of research and listened to a few of their songs BEFORE he made that first video.
@@billb.5183 I think it took me more like 5 months from when I first heard of Band-Maid to when I developed a good enough understanding of the Japanese scene that I would have known about many of the other PRS guitarists there and their name-recognition within Japan, and to understand how Band-Maid are viewed as a band that's big overseas by other Japanese musicians. This isn't something you're just going to google the first time you encounter them.
It hasn't been announced yet, but it's highly likely there will be a North American tour in 2025. Keep your eye out for it. They're definitely a band worth seeing live if you get a chance.
Always love the firs smile on first reacting BandMaid,, Fun fact, now all instrumental player in Band Maid have signature model, Miku Kobato (rythm guitarist) Zemaitis Flappy Pigeon. Missa (bass) Black Smoker Misa signature. Akane (drumer) Wincen A-AKN drum stick
Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 12th year with the original line up. And they are the best live band I have ever witnessed! As you know, Kanami is a PRS endorsed artist with her own signature model. MISA on bass is endorsed by Black Cloud Basses and has a signature model. Miku on rhythm guitar is endorsed by Zemaitis Guitars with her own signature model. Akane on drums is endorsed by Tama and Zildjian. Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!
In my opinion being 60+ years old, Kanami is the greatest guitarist of her generation because she brings the renaissance of the guitarists from the 70s and 80s, e.g. Uli Jon Roth, by paying attention to the beauty of tone, especially of the long notes. Unfortunately, in recent years playing faster and faster often at the cost of tone and phrasing has become increasingly popular. I‘m assuming that Paul Reed Smith who is slightly older than me had the same thing in mind when deciding to award Kanami with a Signature Edition.
You just discovered the greatest band in the world! I truly think Kanami is a musical genius. Everyone of them is a top-tier musician and they're all incredible people.

Welcome & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。I witnessed Kanami's signature model in person at a venue called Zepp Haneda on Nov.26. I was in bliss in Band-Maid's final concert of this year. Band-Maid is one of the best bands in our country, especially in live performance. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄
Welcome to the best rock band ever in my 64 years, I've seen em all, and when I discovered this rock oasis 🏝️ after decades in the musical desert 🏜️ in 2016 it changed my musical life, I would suggest that anyone who's discovered Band Maid emerse themselves in their music, and in the comments I'm confident that other female bands from Japan will be mentioned also, I took that advice and now listen to Japanese female rock/metal bands almost exclusively on a daily basis, and have never been happier musically in my life, Band Maid forever!
Try Domination live of band-maid! I'm discovered band-maid in 2014 with hers first video TH-cam Thrill after Babymetal show in New-York. When see this video want to see who are this girls. I remember saw a video's kanmi tono plays guitar 🎸. Ok it's cool but today she's better players and fantastic songwriter. 10 years ago Kanami played with addictone guitar. I discovered PRS because Kanmi choose this brand of guitar. Everything this 40th anniversary kanami guitar is sold-out like in Canada only five available. All was sold. Yes I'm Canadian I follow band-maid since 2014.
The west ignores most Asian groups. Band Maid is an incredible live band that puts many of the groups in the west to shame. You should have played the whole video. You haven't heard anything yet. You're going to have a lot of fun.
Now I love BAND-MAID and I love Kanami. They are really great and among the best rock musicians today. I am not really sure what has happened in some comments here to you though, seems like some hyperbole. Talking about a new Mozart and whatever is a bit over the top IMNSHO. Those girls are very nice and skilled, and one of my absolute favorites. And Kanami is well worth a PRS signature edition guitar. She is a total beast on the guitar. And she writes good music and is very productive. And is the nicest person to boot. And she has used PRS guitars for many years. But back to BAND-MAID. MISA is a kind of unique bass player. She has freedom to do her own stuff, a kind of lead bass player. Also Akane on drums are kind of lead, having huge freedom. And this makes this band so interesting, they all can be heard doing their thing, even Miku that mostly is backup singer and backup guitar player. If you listen to a song like "Black Hole" you will hear all five being lead. At the same time. So, yes, they are very good, nice and interesting. But, look out for hyperbole. Praise can go a bit too far.
Kanami might not be the most skillful guitarist out there but her compositions are interesting, in fact every member in the band contribute greatly to their music. They can go from poppy vibe songs to quite complex progressive rock/metal/punk fusion songs without losing catchiness.
I think she thinks of herself as a composer first, so she’s not going to go all out, to the detriment of the song. Band-Maid compositions have so much going on, she has to keep her part simpler than what she is capable of playing. She’ll shred through whole songs, but it’s down in the mix, and it’s more providing texture than melody.
@@mr.sorenzo Maidiacs is what western fans are calling themselves. BAND-MAID are doing Okyu-Ji (servings) instead of “concerts” and they are calling their male fans “Masters” and female fans “Princesses”.
Yes, yes, yes, you've hit on the key thing about this band, which is NOT that they're really good players... they are, but a lot of bands can claim that (see Lovebites, for a similar band). What Band-Maid has is KILLER composition. It's not just how Kanami is playing her parts that makes her great, but just how intensely well thought out those parts are. To include keeping the showing off parts short in service to the song (except when they aren't like in the extended guitar/bass battle in Hate) in a lot of cases. But also in that when one is showing off, the others don't back off, the compositions instead include multiple instruments (often all of them) going off at the same time in complimentary ways. Please do react to more Band-Maid in detail, and try to dissect it and you will absolutely see what we Madiacs are all on about. High energy, well played, creatively and extensively designed compositions are what make this band stand out!
Here's what Rolling Stone had to say about Band Maid at Lallapalooza. They Were INVITED, only the second Japanese band to be invited. Japanese Rockers Band-Maid Put Guitar Center Showoffs to Shame There’s a pun to be made about how much Band-Maid ripped, but the Japanese group goes even harder than that. Fluctuating between hard rock, aughts nu-metal, and pop rock, each member of the quintet is a virtuoso in her own right with more than a decade of practice in Band-Maid alone. They lured curious onlookers into the fold when highlights like “Domination” and “Don’t You Tell Me” got huge reactions from the crowd, but it was the bass solo-versus-guitar solo duels mid-song that got the biggest cheers. This is what those guys in Guitar Center think their ridiculous riffing sounds like. Turns out it’s done best, and most effortlessly, by women in black-and-white maid dresses and frilly hair-pieces as they smile ear to ear. -N.C. Last thing - They had a 14 city tour in 2023, ALL Sold-Out. They have been touring in the US and Europe since 2016.
Welcome to the fandom! I'd call the guitar - beautiful! Band Maid is fairly well known round the world! Kanami is an amazing guitarist! My fave band. Dunno why you cut short/edited the songs so much?
Please don’t cut up the song. They never copyright strike, so listen to the song as you normally would. Also How did no one suggest Puzzle live? That one is basically a guitar solo the entire song but but has vocals. I think as far as instrumentals go, Onset is the best. It has an official live video on their channel. Blooming is arguably Mincho’s best solo. Also Moratorium live at zepp tokyo is their best song imho and shows off her songwriting genius.
@@Puyax01 Hey welcome back!😊 I know that now. The next video will have the full song! More Band-Maid coming right up! Thanks for the song suggestions! 😊
wow a pity you made a summary. those of us who listen to these ladies of rock would have seen either the four videos or the long video. Keep it in mind for the next one. greetings from Argentina.
I think Band-Maid publishes song scores and tabs for their fans. Many fans appear to be other professional musicians. There are also a number of covers on TH-cam.
I'll be interesting to see what the Hello Kitty Fender can do. It was a little steep for me for a first guitar but I did just order the Squier Esquire H limited edition, the green one . $150 bucks to my front door! I figure I can learn a few chords and make some noise. See you at the Grammys. LOL
Can I just say when it comes to BAND-MAID don't worry to much about copyright as the band love reactors, so there is no real need snip the songs to try and get round it
Also, Band Maid’s songwriting, they don’t overplay anything, so when you mentioned the guitar solo was too short !! Well mostly they are all too short in a way that everything that comes next is unexpected and leaves you wanting more, not the usual play by numbers writing style Japanese music breaking the rules
"I want to see if they hold up live, and can play"
All Maidiacs --------- HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
😂😂😂 yup, I said that. That’s a fair point
Thanks for the recognition and reacting to Band-Maid and Konami. One of the most dynamic, talented rock bands in the world today. They go unnoticed largely because of a language barrier. It's truely sad what the entire world is missing.
@@Pigeonholed-Po great point! It’s really sad if language barrier is stopping a talent like this
@@mr.sorenzoalso too many default to oh they are Japanese=anime which is lazy, IMHO. Bandmaid is incredibly talented and their music covers a broad spectrum
@@bartyslattfast You’re 100% right. They are skilled and very versatile! It’s a disservice to call them “anime” song
That’s an interesting perspective! 🔥
You need to read the Rolling Stone (Japan) interview as to how they create their songs. AKA Kanami does not compose the drums or the bass.
@@outwest1014 that’ll be an interesting read! Is that the September interview?
They didn’t sexualize themselves is a big one! Great point🔥

@@paddyofurniture4681 They are great!
From a musician’s standpoint, there are some incredibly interesting songs that are custom made for people with ears to hear:
“Blooming,” OMV
“Moratorium,” LIVE
“Daydreaming,” OMV (ballad/alt-rock)
A heads-up: Band Maid are fearless songwriters. The only formula for their songs is to play whatever feels cool in the moment. This means it’s impossible to either love or hate everything they do. 👍🏽
Love the “From Now On” choice. It’s a great introduction!
Firm handshakes and keep rocking friend! 🎸
Great video! Those four songs give a good introduction to the band. I saw them in Seattle, anything you see in a music video they can play live. Besides being a shredder, Kanami was also the main composer for all four songs.
🤝🏼 thanks for the words!
She really is talented isn’t she…everyone has been telling about her skills and talent

🔥
Such a good point! Have to pay it forward! Hopefully these videos and future Band Maid related videos will help with some of it

Thanks for hanging out friend! I’m having a lot of fun with their music right now
Nice comment about the songwriting.

Been a Band Maid fan since 2014. When I even hear the letters "PRS" the first thing that comes to mind after that is "Kanami".
@@CommanderCronus I mean she is one of the 9 now to have a signature model.
Do you play any PRS?
@@mr.sorenzo Oh no, I'm definitely not a musician. I just started to really like Korean Kpop music in 2012, which led to an interest in Japanese Jpop music, and then to Japanese Heavy Metal which lead to me to Band Maid. Once you get interested in the Asian pop and rock music scene, it pretty much opens a whole universe of music you were not even aware of. It's life changing, in a way.
Just a quick 2¢,
If you end up checking out more of their music via TH-cam or on your own time.

That's right. They generally save the showing off for live performances by adding extended intros or solo sections for the fans.
Congratulations 👍 You're on your way to becoming a "MAIDIAC."
I love and respect all five members of BAND-MAID.
But i love all these young women.
@@mr.sorenzo
Yes, I played bass for over 30 years.
BTW, the Maids used 12 songs to fill the "open" slots in their ZEPP tour:
4 shows: "Endless Story", "No God", "Domination", "After Life", "Choose Me", "Unleash!!!!!"
2 shows: "Sense", "Hate?", "Alone"
1 show: "Play", "Influencer", "Don't You Tell Me"
Let's look at it in another way.
I love a new perspective, respectful disagreement and interesting conversation. Thanks for bringing it all friend! 🍻

Thanks heaps! And thanks for sharing🙏🏼
Hej Mr. Sorenzo,

(Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.)
Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

I forgot Blooming you must heard that, Influencer too, play....everything of band-maid it's too nice to the mainstream.
@@mikometal4882 Blooming. Got it!🤝🏼
Kanami might not be the most skillful guitarist out there but her compositions are interesting, in fact every member in the band contribute greatly to their music. They can go from poppy vibe songs to quite complex progressive rock/metal/punk fusion songs without losing catchiness.
you’re 100% right! And she does some bluesy sounding stuff too in songs like Corallium. Versatile!
So a new master has met the maids

Japanese Rockers Band-Maid Put Guitar Center Showoffs to Shame
There’s a pun to be made about how much Band-Maid ripped, but the Japanese group goes even harder than that.
