metalcore sucks
Pin of shame 😂
@@zacharyclements2575 There is no shame
@@IscariotHeartwork There is. You feel annoyed by what other people like instead of liking your stuff and being quiet.
@@TrueLordShrek I'm annoyed by the thing itself, not the fact people find joy in it.
Eh, it sucks if you don't like punk.
Otherwise, I don't see why you wouldn't like it
I'm not a big fan of it but I wouldn't say that it down right sucks.
I've definitely heard worse fusion genres
As soon as I got this notification my mind Immediately went to Painkiller by Death
Orgasmatron (Motörhead ) by sepultura was my first thought
No Remorse - Metallica cover by Cannibal Corpse is the best metal cover ever. Period.
Same
Circle of the tyrants - Celtic frost covered by obituary
@@trissybear08 that too but Opeth 🖤
Wait, you’re telling me the guy who tried to hire a hitman to murder his wife has a cover of “Killing is My Business… and Business is Good!”?!
💀💀💀
We got a massive "separating the art from the artist" problem here.
And it kicks ass even though they didn't play the fast riff correctly
It's called irony (/j)
I'd add: Metallica, Am I Evil? Cradle of Filth, Hallowed be thy name; Slayer, Dissident Aggressor
All great covers too. I bet you could do an entire video of just hallowed by thy name covers lol
Diamond head no remorse
That Dissident Aggressor cover is tight metal shit!
the Cradle one is so much perfect 🤘
cannibal corpse, no remorse

I love the God of Thunder cover that Death did
Its a banger
what the fuck thats a cover?? :00
@@kacpersambor6349 bonus track on the Human album
@@notzipfy916 i know, i love the song, it just fits death so well i was so convinced it is their own haha
@@kacpersambor6349kiss has plenty of songs that could be made heavier
Motorhead's Orgasmatron covered by Sepultura is awesome!
Had to scroll a little to find it mentioned, but yes, this is absolute perfection as far as metal bands covering metal songs. Kudos.
Indeed!!! hell yeah
was just gonna say how disappointed i was that this was not on his list
metallica - am i evil?
pantera - planet caravan??
megadeth - no more mr nice guy??
If you're including Alice Cooper as metal, then Gwar's cover of "School's Out" is pretty good too.
@@mikefelty2625 Varvis has Alice In Chains in his video, so there's nothing wrong with Alice Cooper I'd say.
I remember watching panteras planet caravan on the box back in 93-94
Yes, Metallica Am I Evil, longtime favorite classic here
Add Sepultura Symptom of the Universe
I unironically think Sabaton's for Whom the Bell Tolls is a banger, turning it into this sick orchestral piece
Sabaton has done quite a few good covers.
Sabaton has kick ass music, one of their weaker points is lyrics simply because they aren’t native English speakers, so they do pretty well with covers imo
Rob Scallon doing for whom the bell tolls using only a variety of bells is cool
Honestly Children of Bodom’s Rebel Yell cover is fantastic, and Alexi’s clean vocals are some of the best
So many of CoB's covers are great.
That whole album of covers they did is a giggle
Yeah but original is rock not metal
Dimmu Borgir cover of "Burn in hell" from Twisted Sister is awesome.
Testament's cover of Powerslave is my favourite song ever. It acutally improves the original imo.
You'd think it impossible to improve upon perfection, but the madmen actually did it.
Not a big fan of Testament but loved the cover
@@kirkham4 First time I've ever heard someone say that they aren't a fan of testament
@papabillydeth4723 I don't dislike their music. But if I'm looking for Thrash I go for Death Angel, Sepultura, or Megadeth
@@kirkham4testament shits on pop rock megadeth. Megadeth isn't thrash aside from rust in piece.
@@Umbra_Nazgulokay metallica pfp
Haven't watched the video yet but I hope the planet caravan cover from Pantera gets a mention.
Painkiller by Death is definitely one of my favorites, I absolutely love Chuk's "clean" voice and was very surprised when I heard it for the first time but the whole "The Sound of Perseverance" album is an absolute masterpiece. I also like Opeth`s cover of "Would" so much and I am very picky with AIC covers (especially the Layne era ones) since they are my favorite band, I am so happy you mentioned it and that someone finally agrees that AIC is metal! (Also watched the whole video on that, I loved it and couldn't agree more with you).
Hey, i would mention : 1) Anthrax - Antisocial (og by Trust)
2) Northern - Final Countdown (og by Europe)
3) Cannibal corpse - No remorse (og by Metallica)
4) and personnal all time fav' : Pantera - Hole in the sky
take care, love

@@mavisser3211 my bad
When he said Children of Bodom I thought he was gonna follow up w their version of Antisocial
@maximepignon9537 I was TODAY years old when I found out out that Anthrax's version was a cover! Consider me SCHOOLED...
Napalm Death - Incinerator (by Slaughter)
Thanks for the mention, you are a hero! Also now that I think about it, Avenged Sevenfold has a cool cover of "Flash of the blade" too.
anytime my man, thank YOU for showing me it
Dimmu Borgir - Burn in hell
Cradle of filth - hallowed be thy name
System of a down - Snowblind
August burns red - Chop Suey
Worm Shepherd - Eyeless
The Agonist - Monochromatic Stains
Soulfly - the Beautiful People
Fleshgod Apocalypse - Reise, Reise
Stone Sour - Creeping Death
Carnifex - the Heretic Anthem, Dead bodies everywhere, and Angel of death
Angel Maker - Knee Deep
Poppy - Spit
Morgan Lander - Snap your fingers/snap your neck
Thanks for turning me on to that Manilla Road cover! That is such a great tune and I’ve been listening to it on repeat
It's so good!
Iced Earth doing Priest’s “The Ripper” ❤
THE RIPPAH
You tryin to get my man denaturalized from Canada.
@@Chicago_Podcast_Authority King Diamond did it too.
Varvis, thank you for your content. I enjoy your takes a lot!
Thanks for watching man!
As some one who makes metal covers, I can't believe I've never looked into metal covers of metal songs. Great video. I definitely prefer the less faithful covers. I might actually prefer The kill switch engaged Dio cover over the original.
Yeah I might too, both versions are amazing
Disappointed I didn't see Pantera's cover of Black Sabbath's Planet Caravan or Type O Negative's cover of Paranoid. Both are incredibly inspired.
I hear you!
Imo, Type O did better with Black Sabbath than they did Paranoid, but both are solid covers
I’d add The Badge or Cat Scratch Fever by Pantera instead of Planet Caravan which is also a great cover
Pantera also covered Sabbath’s hole in the sky.
Anthrax did sabbath bloody sabbath, which is also good.
Blind Guardian - “Don’t talk to strangers”
Was not expecting that cover of Amon Amarth. It's very good!!
aces high by iron maiden was also coverd really well by children of bodom
I feel like you could make an entire video out of Aces High covers lol
@@VARVIS_ add Arch Enemy to that list.
Machine Head - Battery (Metallica); Decapitated - Lunatic of God's Creation (Deicide); Lamb of God - Wake Up Dead (Megadeth)
I thought of Revocation that did Dyers Eve and Trivium Master of puppets
hell yeah brother love both of those tracks
They did Altars of Sacrifice and Sworn to the black as well. Both are great.
I max out my deadlifts and squats listening to that very Dyers Eve cover LOL
Man! Double brutal is a little gem of an album, especially for terminator geeks like me.
Although, I think the best cover in there is "Gotta Go" by Agnostic Front. Definitely a must in a future metal covers of punk songs video
I agree; Chuck's falsetto vocals were amazing.
So good
Dimmu Borgir - Burn in Hell (Twisted Sister)
Orbit Culture - Hardwired (Metallica)
Gojira - Escape (Metallica)
Dååth - Where the Slime Live (Morbid Angel)
Revocation - Dyers Eve (Damn metallica is everywhere here)
all great picks
@@VARVIS_ Dude, Gojira's cover of Escape is EPIC!!!
I like Hatebreeds version of Escape, too. But Gojira take the cake for their epic rendition 🤘
Dimmu Borgirs cover of Burn in hell is by far my favorite metal cover
I'd like to add aces high by Children of Bodom
the main riff kicks so much ass (especially the transition from 2nd chorus to outro) and the solo is lowkey one of my favorite CoB solos of all time...Aces High is a great song by itself, and it exists both as a great piece from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal as well as from finnish melodic deathmetal, and both performed by pioneers and (arguably) the best band of their genre
Megadeth´s Paranoid
nic Nick NICK! fuc me, run it!
Nick Nick nick
Fu_k.. me... run it
Candlemass version of Countess Bathory (Venom) is absolutely fantastic!
Lets just say you might have to do another video with some of these suggestions. Here is a few from me:
Beast in Black - Battle Hymn (OG Manowar): They make this Manowar epic feel like an intricate part of their Dark Connection album
Aces High - Tommy Johansson (OG Iron Maiden): former Sabaton guitarist and Majestica lead turns this Maiden classic into a power metal belter
Drink - Skálmöld (OG Alestorm): Icelandic viking metal cover of a Scottish pirate metal song about alcohol? Yes please!!
1916 - Sabaton (OG Motörhead): No words needed. A beautiful yet horrifying song.
Hallowed Be Thy Name - Machine Head (OG Iron Maiden): A cover that is both faithful and has their own spin on it.
Helloween - Electric Eye (OG Judas Priest): a faithful cover that's just as good as the original
Aerials - Amon Amarth (OG System of a Down): who knew a viking death metal cover of a nu metal classic could be so epic
I would definitely put sepultura's cover of orgasmatron on here
Venom covering Black Sabbath's Megalomania was pretty spot on
Also Sepultura covering Motorhead's Orgasmatron, but motorhead being metal band may be questionable
Motörhead were definitely metal by that point in their discog, so it does qualify. And yes, it is the best.
didn't expect that Manilla Road cover from Visigoth here! good version, very epic!
I can't believe no one has reccomended Ghost's cover of Phantom of the Opera by Iron Maiden. That whole cover album is good but that's the only metal song on the album.
Sabaton's cover of For Whom The Bell Tolls is also a favorite of mine
Venom covering Megalomania is absolutely one of the best covers of metal there is
Like the video, first time here. Keep up the good work, I will check out more. And I have to say it, as a Kings fan I was happy to see Florida win the cup. :-)
Thanks for watching man! It only hurts a little bit 😅
Oh, I thing I forgot, a cover I like is The Oath by Kiss preformed by Arch Enemy
Manilla road's 1983 production vs Visigoth's 2015 is exactly the kind of direct contrast that confirms my preference for the oldschool. Each their own I suppose, but nah lol.
feuerschwanz - warriors of the world
For a long time I thought Sepultura's version of 'Symptom of the Universe' was the original 😅 I ended up getting more attached to it than Sabbath's. They did a great job imo
Finally someone else mentioned Sepulturas cover of Symptoms of the Universe, that's an awesome take on an already amazing song.
Saw Sabaton open for Judas Priest in Syracuse a couple weeks ago. They were awesome!
My favorite Sabaton cover is Afraid To Shoot Stramgers
Can’t take the Amon Cover. My ears bleed
I like All That Remains cover of Believe in Nothing by Nevermore. Not as good as the original, but I like their poppy melodic metalcore version. Has an interesting vibe.
Slayers cover of Dissident Aggressor by Judas Priest is amazing
I like it but I just think the original goes so much harder tbh
It's great but they did it as a filler of South of heaven because the lyrics talk about war.
holy smokes fantastic call on the visigoth cover, the revenant king start to finish rips. After that not being too familiar with manilla road just bought the first 5 albums and despite a rough first two the next three are pure epic/power metal gold.
into the floooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood agaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaain!!!
same old trip it was baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack theeeeeeeeen
There's this cybergrind band from the early 2000's called THE BERZERKER that covered Carcass' "Corporal Jigsore Quandary" It is frickin' awesome!!!
Great band, pity they aren't talked about more
Great video dude, bit short 😛 I have found that covers of older metal songs have better production and as a result sound better to my ear. The "Maiden Heaven - A Tribute To Iron Maiden" is a good example of this, To Tame a Land - Dream Theater blows my mind. One of my favourite metal covers is Fightstar's cover of Leper Messiah!
Slayer's Dissident Aggressor rocks. I also really enjoy Visigoth's Necropolis cover (not nearly as much as the original song, but MR is my favourite band haha), and Blind Guardian's Trial by Fire made me really happy when I found out about it
i am surprised that no one mentioned the metallica cover of stone cold crazy , the first thrash band covering the first thrash song , i love it!
Tyr's cover of Pantera's "Cemetery Gates" is outstanding.
This video is brilliant! Very good picks, man 💯
Appreciate it!
@@VARVIS_ I also like Iced Earth's cover of Transylvania by Iron Maiden, they did a very good job of that! Or Motörheads cover of Whiplash by Metallica 😛🤘
Our band, Abiardh, also does covers. We have reinterpreted the following songs in our own style, blending black, death, and thrash metal:
- Meditasi Embun Pagi by As Sahar (Malaysia/Singapore Black Metal)
- Ikrar Perwira by Rusty Blade (Singaporean Heavy Metal)
- Nyanyian Malam by Filsufatia (originally titled "Nightingales," Malaysian instrumental Depressive Black Metal)
- Khuldi by As Sahar (originally titled "Behind the Birth of Mass," Malaysia/Singapore Black Metal)
We invite you to listen to our renditions.
Feuershwanz's cover of manowar's warriors of the world
They also have a great version of Twilight of the Thunder God based on Sabatons version
Heaven shall burn - Valhalla (blind guardian), graveworm - Fear of the dark (iron maiden), Death - Painkiller (judas priest)
Tyr has some amazing covers
Where Eagles Dare is probably my favorite cover from them.
Ghost's version of Here comes the Sun is awesome just purely based on the fact the made it depressing.
Blind Guardian's take on Surfin USA, Barbara Ann, and Mr.Sandman are also all just a good time.
Motorheads cover of Whiplash is also pretty sick.
covers are cool :)
witchery - fast as a shark
cannibal corpse - no remorse
13:20 layne staley had such a beautiful and unique voice, i am not sure if anybody can imitate it ever.
#1: Testament cover of Scorpions’ “Sails of Charon”
#2: Powerwolf cover of Running Wild’s “Conquistadors”
#3: Blind Guarfian cover of Priest’s “Beyond the Realms of Death”
While I'm not a fan of most "-core" metal, this was still a pretty great list. Got me thinking. So I've got a handful of covers for you that if you haven't checked out, you absolutely should.
First, Decapitated covering Slayer's Mandatory Suicide on their Wings of Creation debut. Turning that song into pure death metal brings a mid-tier Slayer track straight to the top of the pile. These boys crush it.
Another Slayer cover, this time Vader hitting Raining Blood. Another death metal band from Poland coming correct on an absolute classic. There's studio and live versions and they're all worth hearing. Vader in their prime covering Slayer in theirs. Brutal.
Here's a quick two-piece for you: Sepultura covering Motorhead's Orgasmatron and Black Sabbath's Symptom of the Universe. Really, all you need to know is that it's Sepultura. Real Sepultura. Enough said.
There was a Maiden cover album that came out in the mid 90s called A Call to Irons I think. I'd recommend the whole thing, but there's a killer Opeth track, and, imo, the star of the show is Solitude Aeturnus absolutely killing Hallowed Be Thy Name. I mean, that's a ballsy move out the gate and they more than do it justice.
Anyway, those are a few top-tier metal on metal covers for you to check out. Like I said, give that Maiden tribute a listen, pretty much the whole thing is great, but you'll get your own mileage out of each different band. Also, the Sepultura Sabbath cover comes off a FANTASTIC Sabbath tribute from the 90s called Nativity in Black, and brother, if you don't know that one you need to. That's a banging record.
cheers man thanks for the recs
There are three full albums of Slayer covers, "Slatanic Slaughter", all covers there are excellent, but my personal favorite there is "angel of Death" by Liers in Wait.
You forgot that the harsh part of Sabatons cover is done by Peter Tägtgren from Hypocrasy/Pain. I think it really gives some extra flare and also ties it back to the original.
Pretty interesting and cool, most here I never heard of! I'm particular to covers of covers and even do many covers of Metal cover covers myself.
I'm shocked you forgot Slayer Born to Be Wild or Inna Gadda Da Vidda, Hatebreed Metallica Escape in Drop C, Metallica The Wait, Metallica Blitzkrieg by Blitzkrieg, Sepultura symptom of the Universe, Am I evil, Motorhead Whiplash and Enter Sandman, etc, etc...
My favorite is probably Death's cover of Painkiller, it was absolutely badass. And I'm a fellow Oilers fan too man. I'm hoping they can pull it off🤟
Evergrey- “Paranoid”
Metallica- “Ronnie Rising”
Gojira- “Escape”
Metallica- “Mercyful Fate”
Pantera- “Hole in the Sky”
Iced Earth- “Hallowed Be Thy Name”
Anthrax- “Neon Knights”
When I was younger, I was a huge sucker for the Carnifex cover of Angel of Death and the Within the Ruins cover of Fight Fire with Fire. Very faithful covers with more modern production and lower tuning akin to the BtBaM cover you mentioned.
You should do a video on the whole series of nativity in black
A lot of these I gotta check out 😅
A couple that come to mind for me, but aren't exactly metal on metal covers are Dream Theater's cover of Take Your Fingers From My Hair (the ending of this is so good 😩) and Erra's cover of Stockholm Syndrome
Nevermore’s cover of JP’s Love Bites. Love that one. Also, Fates Warning cover of Sign Of The Southern Cross.
I love the inclusion of the Video for I need your clothes, your boots, and your Motorcycle one of my favourite songs from ADM
Great list.
I'd add
Metallica - Am I evil?
Dimmu borgir - Burn in hell
Halestorm - Ride the lighting
Children of bodom - Black Winter day
Sonata Arctica - Still loving you
Children of Bodom - Aces high
Monstrosity - Angel of Death
Holy shit, so many great covers out there
Some of my favorites (just off the top of my head):
Tsjuder - Sacrifice (Bathory cover)
Siebenburgen - Animal (Fuck Like A Beast) (WASP cover)
Ancient - Powerslave (Iron Maiden cover)
Pulsar Colony - I Feel The Breath Of Ragnarok (Nokturnal Mortem cover)
Watain doing a full live album of Bathory covers
Thorns and Emperor coving each others tracks
The entire Darkthrone Holy Darkthrone album
Here's a few to look up:
Memento Mori covering MSG - Lost Horizons. Metal Church covering Deep Purple - Highway Star, Helloween covering Kids - I stole your love
For me one of the best metal covers from a metal band is Motörhead - Shoot 'Em Down (originally by Twisted Sister). They made this song a Motörhead song. They covered the song as if it was originally written by Lemmy.
If I need to name a metal cover of a pop song, it would be the "Wolves of the see" cover by Alestorm. It was originally a Eurovision Song Contest song. It fits the lyrical themes of Alestorm very much. If you want to check it out watch the "Alestorm, Live in Tilburg" concert (you can find it on TH-cam)
I highly recommend you check out Daath's cover of The Philosopher by Death. Their cover just adds so much to the song I've never listened to the original since. Death fans, don't even try. In fact, go check it out yourself. Daath is a fantastic band that's absolutely worth your time checking out, and they take everything good about the original and improve on it. Also Orbit Culture's cover of Hard Wired by Metallica. Niklas does such a great job rearranging the song to a melodeath style combined with one of his best vocal performances to make a top-tier cover.
Solid list. 👍🏼 Chimaira's cover of "Disposable Heroes" by MetallicA is also pretty badass!🤘🏼
Great video!!
Other killer covers are
Sinister , beneath the remains
Mastodon, emerald (Lizzy)
Mastodon, Orion
Hypocrisy, black metal
Cannibal corpse, No Remorse
Hatesphere - Bark at the moon (Ozzy)
Sylosis doing Pantera's Strength Beyond Strength
Hatebreed doing Slayer's Ghosts of War
Cannibal Corpse doing the Squidbillie's intro song
Van Canto's cover of Iron Maiden's Fear of the Dark, Nightwish's Wish Master, and Grave Digger's Rebellion. Van Canto is an a capella metal band from Germany! ^^
The entirety of the first Nativity In Black record. That record is immaculate.
I haven't watched the video yet but two cool examples that came to my mind that I think you probably HAVEN'T talked about in this video are :
Dio's Holy Diver by Killswitch Engage.
Black Sabbath's Snowblind by System Of A Down.
LMAO
1 out of 2 isnt bad LOL
Six Feet Under has covered TNT, Son of a Bitch, War Machine, In League with Satan, and many, many other metal songs as well as several classic rock tunes. Graveyard Classics.
Ghoul's "cover" of What A Wonderful World absolutely belongs on this list
What the heck happened at 4:45 My fav covers are Testament's cover of Powerslave and Machine Head's covers of Hallowed be Thy Name and The Sentinel. I love iron maiden but I almost always prefer cover's of their songs that make the songs heavier. Honorable mentions: Jungle Rot's cover of Kreator's Terrible Certainty, Stone Sour's covers of Metal Church's The Dark and Children of the Grave, Metallica's cover of Iron Maiden's Remember Tomorrow,
What do you mean?
@@VARVIS_why Opeth popped I think he means
Yeah I was gonna say that got my hopes up and then crushed me, but Opeth popped up later in the video so it's all good. 😅
Subliminal Opeth >
Entombed - Scottish Hell
Exodus - Angel of Death
Forbidden - Dissident Aggressor
Pantera - Electric Eye
Obituary - Circle of the Tyrants
Slayer - Hand of Doom
Ghoul - Americanized
Sepultura - Procreation of the Wicked
Revocation - Dyers Eve
Cannibal Corpse - Zero the Hero and No Remorse
Anthrax - Parasite
Sacred Reich - Sweet Leaf
My contribution to this, even though it may be considered sacrilege, is Carnifex’s cover of Angel of Death. That song deserves a deathcore/metal tinge. I was surprised how much I liked it lol.
Trivum has great covers of Master of Puppets and I Don't Wanna be Me, Sepultura has a good cover of Just One Fix, Amon has a good cover of Aerials, Arch Enemy has a very nice cover of Kill With Power, and I was surprised to didnt do trapped under Ice for ADM
Megadeath's cover of Thin Lizzy's Cold Sweat is one of my favorites! Not really a metal band but their last album was leaning that was, and Dave crushed it!
"Hallowed be thy name" by Cradle of Filth is coool
"For Whom The Bell Tolls" from Moonsorrow is a must Listen! They made it an epic Pagan/Black Metal Masterpiece.
Fates Warning covering Judas Priests "Saints in Hell" is superb!
Don't put him into difficult territories. He's a trendy, borderline non metal fan.
For metal on metal covers I always recommend Drangonforce’s cover of Evil Dead by Death. They totally reimagined it and even threw in an Easter egg at the end, it’s awesome
Some of my favorites:
Crystal Viper - Agents of Steel
Messiah - Dreams of Eschaton
Ishtar - I Wanna be Somebody
Imperial Age - To Mega Therion
Mortillery - Angelwitch

Love U ❤️❤️
@@VARVIS_ LUV U!💋
Anaal Nathrakh did a great, unique and extremely heavy cover of Powerslave.
1:51 Actually Deaths version of painkiller is played at Eb tuning so only a half step down! For some reason they decided to do it so rather than the D standard death always otherwise used! Also great covers, my favorite is ”Hallowed be they name” covered by Machine Head!
If you do that metal covers of pop songs list someday, maybe throw a bone to Nazareth. I know they're more hard rock/proto-metal, but they were the champions of making pop and folk songs into headbangers. They covered the Everly Brothers (Love Hurts, as a proto-hair metal ballad), Leon Russell (Alcatraz), Joni Mitchell (This Flight Tonight), Grin ft. Nils Lofgren (Beggar's Day), Little Feat (Teenage Nervous Breakdown), Bob Dylan (Ballad of Hollis Brown), JJ Cale (Cocaine, famously covered by Eric Clapton), Tomorrow (My White Bicycle), Woody Guthrie (Vigilante Man), and even the Beach Boys (Wild Honey).
