Great content as usual . As someone who has just entered retirement , the portion of our portfolio that I manage is focused on dividends. SCHD and O are my two largest positions, followed by JEPQ, EPD and MO. Right now the majority of my dividends are being dripped so that my income will be higher in a few years when we may need it. I may also move some of my individual holdings into Dividend ETFs later on for capital preservation. Your videos have been extremely helpful. Hopefully my wife and I can stay healthy enough that we can start moving our IRA $$& into our taxable account so our kids will won’t have to worry about the 10 year rule on inherited IRAs.
Very good and no nonsense explanation of the pros and cons of dividend producing stocks. Of course, like you stated, younger investors might want to consider pure growth stocks to accumulate enough assets before transforming their portfolio to more dividend producing stocks for more stability and steadier income as they get older. There are so many so called investors that want a get rich quick scheme, and there are ones that just focus on pure dividend income, which I consider just the opposite of the first. Moderation between the two types (blending between the two), IMHO, seems to be a good path. This is like diversification/balancing a person's portfolio. But each to their own. What is right for one person, may not be right for another. We end up choosing our path based on what we believe is the right path for ourselves. Best wishes for investing for all of us!!!
Good morning GenEx! Thank you for the new dividend video. We really appreciate the Saturday morning motivational videos. I have an idea for a possible future video (just a suggestion) maybe a video discussing the differences pros/cons of investing in dividend stocks that pay Annually Vs Semi-Annually Vs. Quarterly, just a video idea, I’ve been enjoying your content (and sharing with friends/family) since January 2021! 🚀💎🙌
Heyas Kevin, and good mornin (and you're welcome) :) Check out th-cam.com/video/ch8BhLh5by0/w-d-xo.html to see if that shares my perspective on payout frequencies...
I saw that graphic!!! I knew it. Money does grow on trees. Not only that but like every fall and winter it drops its leaves. I guess I’ll have to rake all those leaves up. You must have some money seeds that we can plant! 😂 I find every year my dividends keep growing, especially with the drip on. Since the Mrs has passed her dividends go to cash now. Since that was separate inherited property, my kids are the naked owners, but I get the use of it, thus the income from. That acct is swept to my acct where I can invest those dividends. I remember the first time I heard The Beatles song Across the Universe and the lyric, Nothing’s going to change my world. That hit hard.
Ya it’s a neat animation :) Dividend income which keeps trending up is definitely amazing… and life changing (which is why I desperately want people to invest).. Sorry about the missus.. cool your kids will have a huge advantage over what you had..
I have enjoyed investing in my dividend stocks during this moderately high interest rate environment. Rates being up pushed a lot of prices down. This makes me happy as most of my stocks should continue growing their dividends over time. Bank interest rates will go down and bond payments do not normally rise over time. Also this feels like a thinly veiled video about fundamental analysis of the companies you buy. Nice. Thanks for another good start to my Saturday.
That would be awesome if you do a video how to evaluate a company (Good buy or bad according to its valuation and free cash flow). That would be helpful. Great video and thank you!
So hypothetically you were early 60 and only have about $200k spread across trad, roth ira and a taxable brokerage account - (basically WAY behind the curve) would you start to redirect more into the ETFs like O, MO, schd, and the like along with Oil ( exxon, phillips etc) and military defense stocks ?
There are too many missing variables I'd need to know to better answer that intelligently -- but generally speaking I advocate for non-stupid investing over long periods of time... If they needed income now, then I'd go a bit higher on yield now --- if they plan to work for another 10 years, then I'd focus on investing in things that I thought would maximize total returns.. If I had a relative who was 60, had no savings or investments, and they knew they needed to work for at least another decade, but they wanted to start getting some passive dividend income now, then I'd have them focus on dividend etfs. Most people will prolly do better going with a broad market etf (if their time horizon is long enough and if the future is kinda like the past).
thx! more than asking you nicely to show us how to make a DCF, i'd really, really want to know your thought process when analyzing a stock to buy/add to portfolio, at what indicators do you look, if you have price targets on downside, etc! you could shows us some examples of older buys, 5+ years, just to show us your investing thinking process! we'd really appreciate that! ;)

@@GenExDividendInvestor they have a massive problem with old technology (their chips were still stuck at 12nm while TSMC is at 3nm🤦) their balance sheet needs restructuring, layoffs will help, following the example of Starbucks and replacing the CEO would be a greater idea. The best time to be a dividend investor is during periods of economic uncertainty, whereas the worst time is during periods of extremely low interest rates.
Have you ever heard of this kind of strategy on doing dividends , especially on something more volatile? One guy said he would buy say 50 shares of a stock and when it paid 10 shares back in dividends he would sell the 50 ( assuming the value was the same or greater) and reinvest in another stock and leave the 10 shares to do it's thing. Rinse and repeat. I am assuming you would still keep your core long term holds but maybe use this like you would with your chump change you would spend at a casino ?
Since the market is more tech-heavy now, & people always pay up for tech, the PE should be higher than the historic 16. I don’t know what new magic # is, but I’m not gonna wait around for a black swan event for it to get back to historic levels.
