I want you to make videos the length of whatever you feel is necessary to express the message you're trying to spread I've given up the past year to help a friend who went into a coma after a botched surgery. He was in and out if skilled nursing facilities and icu's for 7 months. When he signed a dnr due to failed nursing facilities i quit my job and told him we're going to get him through this. Took my long term low yield dividend portfolio and transitioned it into high yield assets which have given me some security. He's still struggling and still bedbound after a year, but he's recovering and stronger. You're amazing, thank you for sharing. Being in that icu when the nurse explained to his mom what the dnr was it changed me forever.
Thanks, that's what I do (i.e. make them as long as they need to be, not a minute more or less... but I was still curious what people prefer)... Your friend is lucky for you :)
Been a viewer for well over a year now and subscribed a long time ago. I've learned so much and am on a stronger financial trajectory because of your content. Thanks for your hard work! This video hit home: I was freaking out over an unanticipated tax bill, but came to appreciate that owing it was also indicative of what we've been able to accomplish with God's help. I need to get better at being grateful for all of my blessings while staying laser focused on less important financial milestones. This video reminds me of that very important lesson. As for duration of video length: I would watch any duration of length from your content, but really prefer the weekly dose! I had withdrawal symptoms and was actually concerned for you when no video came out last Saturday, LOL! All the best, Gen Ex...
Thanks, Joseph, I appreciate it :) I left a comment on my community tab that I was taking another week to work on my last video, but you probably missed that comment ;)

A mix of short (think update videos) and longer videos like this work for me. But I’ll listen to anything you post, the info you provide is great but even more you’re such a great inspiration with your perspective on life that it’s helping me even more as I get started on my investment path. Thank you
Your segment near the end on being grateful for what you have is especially fitting considering that this was posted on Thanksgiving Weekend here in Canada. I prefer videos in the 10-30 minute range.
I'd say it depends on the topic, however I'd like to see your videos around the 20 minute mark. That seems about right for a lot of the lessons/topics you cover.
Be well man, you are going through a lot. I am following your channel for somes years now, I knew you were a good example for me, but I didn't knew you were that great of an example of courage.
Hey pal. I think a lot of people would love to hear your take again or another deep dive into covered call etfs. They're so intriguing to me and I think a lot of people. Thanks.
Hello Sir, as ba 24 year old div investor, I like the longer videos. I listen to them on to the way to work in the morning or when I am trying to wind down after a long day. Of course, You create whatever you are feeling up to creating, but ill be here forwhatever pops up on your channel!
@genex That Dr. definitely saved your life. He took you straight to a Stroke Center. During that time it was practiced in the medical field that the first 60 minutes from onset of stroke symptoms to the moment of therapy was considered the “Golden Hour”. Any moment past this time period irreparable brain damage would begin to occur. Most ambulance systems policy is to transport to the nearest medical facility sometimes not taking into consideration if that medical facility has a Stroke Center. I’ve been a firefighter/paramedic for almost 23 years now. Just wanted to share that with you after you sharing your story with your viewers. Im glad you made it and are able to provide the content you provide today. It’s content like yours that makes my life after retirement something to look forward to. Because of you I’ve learned to “create a pension with dividends”.
Immediate treatment for stroke is critical as is determining which type of stroke you are experiencing, because the treatments are essentially opposite of each other. 'Ischemic' strokes are a blockage of blood vessels i.e. blood clot which may require blood thinners or physical removal of the blockage while 'hemorrhagic' strokes are likely a burst vessel such as a brain aneurysm which may also need surgery and something to control blood pressure. As you might guess giving blood thinners to someone having a burst blood vessel would be very bad. In the 'old' days sop was to 'wait and see' but there wasn't a lot they could do either way and of course outcomes were bad. Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional seek professional help if needed!!
For most content creators, I genuinely would say under 15 minutes. However, for your channel, there’s really such great content that’s directly applicable to me so probably 40 minutes and under is digestible for me. Excellent content as always !
I’ve watched many of your videos but this is the first time I have seen an in-depth look at your portfolio. Congratulations, this is a nicely diversified portfolio, I was expecting an over weighting of covered call ETFs. I actually think you can add a little to that (no more than 5% of total portfolio) but I agree with your hesitation around how these covered call ETFs will deal with a market correction. The only real thing I would change from this portfolio would be to trim back maybe 10% of your dividend stocks and add an international growth etf, but let’s be honest I’m just an anonymous voice on TH-cam. Thanks for these videos.
Currently I'm in the 33% to 66% category of income from dividends and also retired. I retired in 2016 from the military and receiving two pensions that are adjusted for inflation. Cheers!
I’d love a quarterly long format video. With the others being at the 15 min mark, not 5 min teasers. The shorter ones keep me hooked for a fully developed long form.
Great vid! Length of vids is really up to you. I enjoy your content because it is insightful and inspirational, so just keep creating the length of vid that feels right to you. Cheers!
Thank you and inspiring. Really enjoy your life and financial lessons as they have a humbling and lasting impact. Best wishes and looking forward to your posts.
Congratulations on your income stream. I also love my dividends and the increases as well. Stay strong on dealing with your health issues. I really enjoy your channel.
Thanks for sharing so much, especially about your health situation. I’m sure you hear this every day, but you are an inspiration to me (I’m a physician).
Genex, thank you very much for opening up and inspiring so many. You have had a huge impact in me simplifying my investing strategy and slowly over the years listening to you I transitioned to simplifying my life and appreciating the small things better. This makes me understand how you made this transition over the years and it solidifies my priority changes. You are doing something great for so many and I applaud you!!
Ok I like the over 15 minute videos. Also I am over 66% dividends as I am also retired. No really bad medical issues. Except I fall easily and is fairly fragile. Not overweight. My medical issues stem from a hyperactive thyroid. It affects my eyes and weight. The scariest it got was when I got below 100 lbs. I don’t look my age (or act). I have always had a positive attitude on life. One piece of advice I will give is Please stop and smell the roses! Also stay in the moment and enjoy! At 70 I am just grateful for everything and everyday I am here!
Hey GenEx! I hope you're doing well. I tend to prefer the longer videos as I usually leave them on while playing games to soak up knowledge. I hope you're well brother!
Over. I enjoy listening while driving when I was in the states. Now I’m living abroad 🇵🇭 living off divys myself I listen while cooking breakfast or on my morning walks
Man thank you for the perspective. There are days where i wish I made more money, but the stress and potential major health problems that come with a stressful job just aren't worth it. Health over wealth any day.
@@GenExDividendInvestor Do you have a link to that video? I'm interested in your justification--as you can easily ladder the conversions and it just involves an initial time delay of 5 years (which you could start now).
Prefer the longer videos as I listen to during cardio/workouts.The final section on your "crazy health history" is very likely my favorite segment of any GenExDividendInvestor video to date. The bit about waking up in hospital and being glad not to be on-call at work was a gem!
Doesn't matter if it's less or more than 15 minutes, as long as it's inspiring like this one.. so if it took more than 15 minutes to explain things properly, then please do so.. Always appreciate this kind of contents 😊✅💯
Ya I try to just do them as long as they need to be -- but I was more curious if people prefer shorter stuff (I personally do) or longer stuff.. but ya, the answer depends on the quality, hah.
Wow Congratulations on $130K in passive dividends. That is truly impressive and so happy for you. Well Done!! God Bless and thanks for sharing your experience 👍
@@GenExDividendInvestor Longer videos often take me multiple tries to make it through it but that's a schedule issue on my end, not an issue of disliking longer content.
I love listening to your longer and more in-depth videos. Sometimes I think the subjects you have to cover wouldn't be as beneficial if the videos were shorter.
One of my tests to buy a stock is do I like the product(s), as a consumer. That is why I can't buy McDonalds. They got rid of all their healthy options (no more grilled chicken breast sandwiches--it's all fried). I did like when they offered a salad, but I get that is not in their main wheelhouse so I didn't ding them for getting rid of that option. But when they had the grilled sandwich options, someone like me (who has to watch her cholesterol and other numbers) has no options to eat there. I still like the breakfast sandwiches (Egg McMuffin) occasionally, but not regularly. My point is when they streamlined their menu to only serve fried foods, they took out a piece of their customer base. So when my husband would ask me to go with him there, I would go because there was a food option for me. Now I don't go there anymore and I steer him away from going there. So I can't justify investing in them because I think they made a huge mistake with their menu and ultimately, the customer base. I realize most people don't agree with me but that is just one litmus test I do on all stocks I purchase. Do I like the products as a consumer. Are they making innovations that serve the customers. Regarding your question on video length, I like any videos you put out. Length doesn't matter to me. So for a future topic, why don't you do one on Cruise line stocks? I bought 100 shares of RCL (March, 2020) and CCL because of the cruise line benefit where you get when you own 100 shares of the stock. Essentially, depending on the length of the cruise, as a shareholder of at least 100 shares, you get an onboard credit to spend on your sailing and they became very affordable in March of 2020, especially RCL. I didn't buy NCL--kind of wish I did but. But I would be interested if you did a cruise line stock analysis and what your thoughts were on holding them as an investment and the benefit they give shareholders who sail with them. As always, thanks for an excellent video.
Thanks for sharing Sarah :) Ya, if I like the product that adds some some interest to buy... I actually just saw a study where McDonald's was the least unhealthy of the 13 fast food places they tested (lol, so not healthy, but at least least unhealthy..haha). I actually love cruises (have done a bunch on different lines), but never invested in them (don't quite fit the consecutive years I tend to look for, as one reason)... There is a guy on my Discord that invests a bunch into em discord.gg/kkSr5FY
There is no time limit as far as I am concerned to listen to your wisdom that you have accumulated many years. Thank you for teaching us what you have learned. You do the videos to the point where you’re comfortable doing them. Thank you sir for your videos and the counsel there.
Hey I’m here for all your videos whether long or short. I wish I started investing when I was 20. I would have retired at 39 instead of 49 like I did. Hey I just went to Danang Vietnam on vacation. The people were the nicest people of all the Asian countries I visited. It was also the cheapest. The food was nice also. I’m in Thailand now then back home to the Philippines.
@@GenExDividendInvestor I don’t know enough of Vietnam. It was the first time in Danang Vietnam. From what I’ve seen #1 Hua Hin Thailand. It’s a very nice. It has everything you would need.
@@GenExDividendInvestor I initially visited Ho Chi Minh five years ago and didn’t like it. The people weren’t nice. So I was reluctant to go to danang but watching videos and my wife wanted to go so we went. We didn’t do much because of rainy season. The beach was beautiful, the food was great and people were amazing. Everywhere we went they were warm and kind. One of my first jobs in a hotel there was a petite Vietnamese lady petite and beautiful. Since we only spent a week there that’s all I know. The hotel was very nice service was excellent buffet was good all for $19.40 per night. As a single guy Philippines and Vietnam would be my choices. Probably Philippines because I’m married to a Filipina and I like the nature of a Filipina. Very warm, caring, giving and traditional. Always giving. By the way this is just one man’s thoughts.
Your portfolio reviews always impress me. Amazing what investing has done for you. Also your take on life with your medical history is equally amazing. Being That you have such a positive outlook on life is attitude, it could easily lead to one saying, why me? But you turn you health issues into a positive light. I often quote an excerpt from lyrics from a poem that often see me thru some of my darkest days and keeps me pushing to a new day. “As new life will come from death, Love will come at leisure. Love of love, love of life and giving without measure, gives in return a wondrous yearn of a promise almost seen…” For me that gives me the grit as that audio clip you played. Still working here, in 2023 my investment income is was about 17% of my total income. Which will increase this year as the Mrs passed almost a year ago and I only have one income.
Interesting, I can't recall the song lyrics, I'll need to look that up :) Ya I try to be a pragmatic optimist, if that is such a thing... Hopefully your year mark will keep growing you stronger and more able to push through tough times...
I appreciate the longer videos due to more of the "meat" and the applications of your comments. I understand that the videos would be more infrequent, but worth the wait. Appreciate the vulnerability and I can't imagine people around NOT knowing who you are or about your channel. Upon early retirement, divvies will make up a large amount of my income and then go down when I get my pension and Social Security. I like the mix of Investing and Life Advice.
Thanks, Brett :) Ya the only give away is my 2 microphones on my desk, but I’ve always been an online gamer so it’s not weird for my setup to have mics ;)
Thanks for sharing some of your personal information. I can understand more and more how you want to protect your family now and in the future...and you had the "grit" to do it. Video length - I would default to statistics on what most TH-cam viewers would prefer to watch or remain engaged, but this video and other topics that are valuable to me, over 15 min works. Last question, I would say my divvys are going to be in the 33-66% once I retire, but one day should reach 100% or cover all my day-to-day expenses.
Serious health scares are excellent teachers. I recently went through one of my own and it has taught me more about gratitude and mindfulness than any other experience in my life. Joni Mitchell said it best: "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone." Thank you for this excellent content. Of all the TH-camrs I subscribe to, I look forward to your videos the most.
After hearing specifically about your heart problems and everything, i really understand why you would give up your portfolio in a second, for a healthier body, i would too. I wouldn't trade places with you, but thank you for sharing everything. It got me thinking and i got really thankful for my health, since i am 43 and zero health problems, so far. Hang in there mate and thanks for all the info.

Really appreciate the wisdom and encouragement you shared. Such a great reminder that health is wealth and everything else is just an extra blessing!
Thanks, it was a doozy to make for multiple reasons...
Glad you are back this week. You make me nervous when I don’t get the weekly update. Hope everything in your life is going well
Hah, you and me both ;)
Definitely love the over 15 mins. I listen to these videos when I’m at work as it motivates me to keep investing more into my sweet dividend account
Nice, thanks Andy :)
My favorite video on my favorite dividend channel.
Thanks, man, I appreciate it! And I appreciate you being a channel member :)
@@GenExDividendInvestor I am combining dividends with real estate income to retire soon.
I wait for Saturday to watch your videos! Last weekend I was hoping you are doing well and was worried when you didn't upload. Thanks for this long video!
Thanks :) Ya, it was just a super long video so I needed more time, lol (I posted about it on my community channel).
@@GenExDividendInvestor Oh, for some reason, I didn't see that. But I wish you great health and no Saturday skips please, not sure about others, but I eagerly wait for them right after breakfast on Saturdays and play your new video on my TV.
im 22 years old and hearing about your life story has quite touched me, i wish you all the best man, and good health for a long time, haven't been recommended your vids for awhile even though ive had notifs on...
Cheers!
:)
Heyas dude, thanks, I appreciate the kind words. TH-cam has some weird bugs with notifications -- sometimes I don't get notified when people comment (and it doesn't show up in the admin tool we use for responding to comments), so it doesn't surprise me that sometimes you don't get notified :(
A mix of short (think update videos) and longer videos like this work for me. But I’ll listen to anything you post, the info you provide is great but even more you’re such a great inspiration with your perspective on life that it’s helping me even more as I get started on my investment path. Thank you
Thanks for responding and saying that, Arthur :)
Two year count down then will live on my divdens. Thanks for your videos they inspred me.Happy investing/stacking.
Nice! 2 years is nothing!
Your segment near the end on being grateful for what you have is especially fitting considering that this was posted on Thanksgiving Weekend here in Canada.
I prefer videos in the 10-30 minute range.
Ahh, that was good timing indeed :)
Just keep being you ; this is your calling
Thanks, John :)
I prefer videos longer than 15 min. You give high quality background and description, plus your insight is very valuable.
Thanks, I appreciate it!
I'd say it depends on the topic, however I'd like to see your videos around the 20 minute mark. That seems about right for a lot of the lessons/topics you cover.
Gotcha, thanks for sharing that detail, Rudy :)
Be well man, you are going through a lot. I am following your channel for somes years now, I knew you were a good example for me, but I didn't knew you were that great of an example of courage.
Thanks, David, I appreciate it :)
Hey pal. I think a lot of people would love to hear your take again or another deep dive into covered call etfs. They're so intriguing to me and I think a lot of people. Thanks.
Howdy, I'll add it to the list of potential future ones.
Great video. I myself also found out I had an AVM in my right parietal lobe after my stroke. This also led me to focus more on dividend investing.
Thanks for sharing and I’m glad you are still kicking :)
Hello Sir, as ba 24 year old div investor, I like the longer videos. I listen to them on to the way to work in the morning or when I am trying to wind down after a long day. Of course, You create whatever you are feeling up to creating, but ill be here forwhatever pops up on your channel!
Thanks, Zachary, I appreciate the feedback :)
Thanks for sharing.. Ya I definitely appreciate him taking the risk on himself to take me like that.. I was pretty damn lucky he was there!
Is there a reason to not invest in growth stocks untill retirement then buy into dividend stocks?
It depends on your needs, goals, risk tolerances, etc. in my experience if you invest in quality then you’ll do fine over the long run :)
For most content creators, I genuinely would say under 15 minutes. However, for your channel, there’s really such great content that’s directly applicable to me so probably 40 minutes and under is digestible for me.
Excellent content as always !
I appreciate that, Rick :)
THANK YOU for this video and sharing your personal health challenge …one of your most inspiring video . Thank You
You're welcome -- this one was a doozy to create...
Thanks for sharing -- I've actually been thinking of IDVO more lately....
Currently I'm in the 33% to 66% category of income from dividends and also retired. I retired in 2016 from the military and receiving two pensions that are adjusted for inflation. Cheers!
Nice, congrats :)
Very inspiring 😊 thank you. My portfolio is nearly at 100,000 GBP going to visit Krakow next week for4 days 😊
Thanks, and awesome, I've never been to Poland -- tell me what you thought about it when you're back :)
I’d love a quarterly long format video. With the others being at the 15 min mark, not 5 min teasers. The shorter ones keep me hooked for a fully developed long form.
Thanks, Pappy :)
Great vid! Length of vids is really up to you. I enjoy your content because it is insightful and inspirational, so just keep creating the length of vid that feels right to you. Cheers!
Thanks, Adam :) Ya, I try to just do the length that it needs to be, but I was just curious if folks generally had a preference :)
Hey GenEx, I’m curious behind your thinking of tracking current dividend yield instead of your own dividend yield on cost.
I have that info as well :)
Thank you and inspiring. Really enjoy your life and financial lessons as they have a humbling and lasting impact. Best wishes and looking forward to your posts.
You are so welcome!
Congratulations on your income stream. I also love my dividends and the increases as well. Stay strong on dealing with your health issues. I really enjoy your channel.
Thanks, Steve :)
Thanks for sharing so much, especially about your health situation. I’m sure you hear this every day, but you are an inspiration to me (I’m a physician).
@@majorsam83 you’re welcome :)
Love the TED talk clip! Stay healthy and keep on trucking!
@@user-lj9tv8ci2n Thanks, will do :)
Thanks, and you're welcome :) Pls consider sharing it with someone you think it might help ;)
My wife has thyroid issues as well.. Good advice :)
@@GenExDividendInvestor lol yeah I have a physical every year and if I don’t they hold my meds hostage… I am throughly amused by this…Bwhahahahaha
Over 40 minutes even better.
You are good making videos
Thank you!
God bless you!
Thanks!
I really liked this video. 100% by the way.. which I didn't know was possible until I found this channel. Thanks.
Nice!
Hey GenEx! I hope you're doing well. I tend to prefer the longer videos as I usually leave them on while playing games to soak up knowledge. I hope you're well brother!
Doing well, thanks (and thx for responding).
Over. I enjoy listening while driving when I was in the states. Now I’m living abroad 🇵🇭 living off divys myself I listen while cooking breakfast or on my morning walks
Sounds awesome!
Man thank you for the perspective. There are days where i wish I made more money, but the stress and potential major health problems that come with a stressful job just aren't worth it. Health over wealth any day.
You're welcome -- ya, the stress is definitely something you gotta factor in (as well as ways to deal with inevitable stress)...
Like always, great video. Question. Any particular reason why you have not done Roth conversions?
Ya its a tradeoff of taking out current income in favor of doing it.. and there are some other reasons (I talked about some of them in a video)..
@@GenExDividendInvestor Do you have a link to that video? I'm interested in your justification--as you can easily ladder the conversions and it just involves an initial time delay of 5 years (which you could start now).
Long form!! But i recommend all your videos to my kids. Getting them started in their 20s!!!
Thanks for sharing -- and awesome that you are doing that :)
Prefer the longer videos as I listen to during cardio/workouts.The final section on your "crazy health history" is very likely my favorite segment of any GenExDividendInvestor video to date. The bit about waking up in hospital and being glad not to be on-call at work was a gem!
Thanks, this one was a doozy to make for multiple reasons…
Amazing information in this video thank you for sharing. "Keep investing. Try not to quit! " the best advice that's also the most difficult to follow.
Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed it :)
Thanks so much!
Thanks for this video.
For your videos, I don’t care about length of time. I’ll watch the whole thing
You're welcome and thanks, Tery :)
No problem with over 15 min with good substance. Thanks for what you do. Stay 💪from another GenXer
Thanks, Eric :)
Regarding the length of your videos. I'd like you to keep making them the length you want to make them. Short or long.
Nods -- I always try to do what I feel is needed.. But I was just kinda acting generically if people had a pref ;)
@@GenExDividendInvestor Longer videos often take me multiple tries to make it through it but that's a schedule issue on my end, not an issue of disliking longer content.
@@GenExDividendInvestor Longer videos might take me more effort to finish because of my schedule but I enjoy the long and short ones equally.
How can you set it to reinvest only a percentage of dividends received?
Also have fidelity.
Oh I do it manually :)
@@GenExDividendInvestor Ok gotcha. Thanks for the reply.
I love listening to your longer and more in-depth videos. Sometimes I think the subjects you have to cover wouldn't be as beneficial if the videos were shorter.
Thanks, Luke :)
Thanks for sharing that :)
Thanks, Billy :) Rank those places by which you think is the best to live in... (I've thought about all 3)...
@@GenExDividendInvestor I don’t know enough of Vietnam. It was the first time in Danang Vietnam. From what I’ve seen #1 Hua Hin Thailand. It’s a very nice. It has everything you would need.
@@billyjohnson9166 Nice.. What were your initial impressions? I dated a Vietnamese girl in college -- very cool.
One of your longer ones..but I really enjoyed it. Thanks for the education.
Thanks, Robert :) Ya it was my 2nd longest of all time heh (it originally was my longest but I cut out about 10 mins to tighten it up).
There is so much good information in this video that it deserved to be a series but the impact was best felt exactly as is. P.S. 90%
Thanks, and thanks :)
Love of love, love of life and giving without measure, gives in return a wondrous yearn of a promise almost seen…”
For me that gives me the grit as that audio clip you played.

Thanks, I appreciate your full response :)
Great content and stay Strong Brother!!!! Very motivational and important to always be thankful!!
Thanks, I will ;)
Serious health scares are excellent teachers.
Thanks, I really value your nice comment :)

It doesnt matter how long or short the video. As long as the message is delivered.
Nods, I always make it as long as it needs to be, tho I was just curious generally speaking if people had a preference :)
