  • Welcome to the District Update!
You can feel the excitement in the air as our homecoming celebrations continue! Williamsville South kicked things off the week of September 16th, and last week Williamsville East’s school spirit was on full display. Williamsville North wraps things up with their homecoming the week of October 21st.
We have some truly remarkable students accomplishing big things here in Williamsville. Not just in the classroom, but in many other areas as well. Please be sure to share information regarding any and all achievements with your building administrators so you can be recognized!
Last year, four Williamsville North Students made a three minute short in their animation class. I am thrilled to share that their animated short was submitted to and accepted by the Buffalo International Film Festival and will be shown during their “Next Gen” event. The short, titled “DMV” is a playful take on the experiences in the world of adults. You can attend the screening on October 12th at 2pm at Journey's End Cinema.
The New York State School Music Association announced the list of student musicians that received their “All-State” designation. Later this year, these top students from across the state will travel to Rochester NY to perform under renowned guest conductors during the NYSSMA Winter Conference. In total, 15 Williamsville students received All-State status along with 6 alternates. Congratulations on this amazing achievement!
Each year during Hispanic Heritage Month, the National Football League selects 64 student athletes from across the country to be recognized with their Latino Youth Honors award. This year, Williamsville South senior Kat Cassidy was selected to represent the Buffalo Bills. In addition to being a captain of the Williamsville South flag football team, Kat is also a member of the varsity swimming and basketball teams. She’s also a member of the Williamsville South band. As one of the 64 honorees, Kat has the opportunity to be selected as one of the “elite eight”, who will receive grants toward higher education. Congratulations and good luck!
As Hispanic Heritage month continues, so will our spotlighting of individuals of significance. Be on the lookout for videos on nobel prize-winning chemist Mario Molina, Street Art Pioneer Jean-Michel Basquiat and journalist, activist and suffragist Jovita Idar. All of these video projects will be shared on the District’s social media channels.
This Saturday from 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. is our community forum at Williamsville East High School. This town hall style meeting gives community members a chance to talk with members of the School Board about any education-related issue they wish. There is no agenda or set topic. We’ll see you there!
As a reminder, there is no school on October 3rd in observance of Rosh Hashanah.
Please, enjoy the rest of the week. We’ll see you again soon.
