KOORSK. Fun fact, Kursk city is older than Moscow. It's actually one of the oldest cities in Russia. It will be celebrating 1000 years soon, although some sources suggest that it is even older than 1000 years.

Why exactly does Ukraine keep going into Kursk at this point? Whatever they were thinking, this should be encouraged, by the Russians.

It is. Russia encourages AFU by creating as o called "empty space" as they retreat only to invite Ukraine to get on the open terrain where Ukraine forces can be attacked on the open ground. Russians are extremely smart because they are aware of their capacity and capabilities to use artillery on mass scale.
It's hard and expensive to destroy defenders if they are in the trenches. Then you need to get them on the move or on the run. When the enemy accepts to go out then its forces are very vulnerable. And Ukraine can't change that because their adversaries are not smart enough to understand that.
Kherson and especially Kursk are probably the best examples of that. It is obviously extremely stupid to go on offensive operations if you are losing on the important part of your defensive lines. That's not only illogical. That's extremely stupid.
Ukraine was wrong all war. Overtime when Russians retreat the frontline becomes longer and longer and much harder to defend.
Every time when they do that Russians congratulate them because that's exactly what they need.
Second extremely stupid thing is to establish zones like Bakhmut, Avdievka or similarly defensive situations because, if you remember, the area around the Bakhmut has many bridges. In an intense war like that Russians didn't even think about destroying those bridges. If they wanted to do that why don't they level those bridges to the ground? That's easy to do.
The answer is because they wanted Ukraine to send troops in the semi encircled city because Bakhmut was a bait. Ukraine can get into the city but no one gets out alive. It's cheaper because the goal of this war for Russia is to crush Ukraine's defence capabilities because without soldiers you have no army.
Unfortunately war for Ukraine is lost not only because they are significantly weaker but also their leaders are dumb as f*****...
If you ever will be forced into a war try to remember one thing. Bad commanders lose people easily and if leadership is stupid those people get awarded for that. Then it's time to think about yourself and not think about government.

"The pipeline goes through Ukriane anyways so it was long closed off."
I don't think, it's closed off as Ukraine gathers transfer fees from the Southern route - and possibly siphons off oil - Hungary never publicly complained that is has been cut off - as far as I remember - while the EU certainly had pressed toward that very end (destabilizing Hungary - which in turn blocks EU funds due to intelligence of Kiev's sabotage plans).
But 'Druzhba' doesn't seem to be just an oil pipeline network but also to be connected to the Soviet natural gas pipeline network, linking with Trans Austria Gas in Austria (neutral, EU sceptic as well) into Italy (less NATO hawkish as well).
There can be other reasons for spilling blood at that exact location (e.g. prior Russian de-mining), but oil and gas makes for tangible objectives (detonating the pipeline and blaming the spill unto - HOW DARE YOU - Russia).
      Just saying.

    • @DylanIE_
      @DylanIE_ ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

@@christophmahler Yeah but my point was regardless of capturing that part of the pipeline or not, it still goes through Russia and Ukraine, I.e. either side can close it. Capturing an extra few km of pipes doesn't actually change anything it's not like it just continue further into Ukraine.

Ukrainian forces are experiencing one of their toughest weeks yet, with Russian troops making substantial advances across critical areas on the eastern front. Key gains by Russian forces around Kupiansk, Toretsk, and Selidovo mark a new phase in the intense battle for control in the Donbas region. Russian troops reached the Oskol River south of Kupiansk, splitting Ukrainian defenses in the area. This move jeopardizes Ukrainian supply routes, which are now increasingly dependent on the eastern bank after repeated Russian strikes on crossing points along the river.
With control over the river’s eastern shore, Russian forces now threaten Kupiansk from three directions.
Elsewhere, in Ciasov Yar, Russian units breached the Seversky Donets-Donbas Canal and pushed close to the southern outskirts. Ukrainian supply routes to the nearby cities of Toretsk and Kostiantynivka are under direct threat, potentially straining the Ukrainian defensive network.
Further south, Russian forces entered the outskirts of Toretsk, breaking through Ukrainian fortifications. This move comes after heavy resistance, but Russian troops managed to establish a presence from the west and south, increasing pressure on Ukrainian troops stationed there.
In Selidovo, Russian forces have effectively surrounded the city and advanced as far as the central districts. Located south of Pokrovsk, Selidovo holds strategic importance for Ukrainian logistics in the region.
Its fall could open pathways for Russian advances toward Pokrovsk, limiting the ability to fortify the area against further encirclement.
Further complicating Ukraine’s defensive challenges, Russian advances in the Kursk region have led to Ukrainian forces withdrawing from the Korenevo district under intense artillery and drone assaults.
Ukrainian troops mounted a counterattack near Novoivanivka with American-supplied Abrams tanks and Bradley fighting vehicles. However, Russian forces-maintained control over several contested positions despite the counterattack.
Ukrainians go to extraordinary lengths to avoid military service - Ukrainian Attorney General Andriy Kostin has resigned after it was revealed that quite a few of his associates committed fraud to avoid having to go to war against the Russians. Dozens, possibly hundreds, of the Ukrainian attorney general's local staff are suspected of having evaded conscription by having their wives recognized as invalids. They allegedly paid thousands of dollars to do so. After all, if a spouse is disabled, conscription lapses so they can then take care of her.
This type of fraud with false disability certificates is unfortunately commonplace these days. It involves not only prosecutors, but also customs and tax officials, employees of the pension fund system and of local governments.

What surprises me is that Russians are constantly attacking along most of the front lines since last August, with very short pauses. I was expecting longer operational pauses, for regrouping, rotations and reinforcing of depleted units.
Being constantly in the attack is usually depleting your forces--armored vehicles are damaged, destroyed or in need of maintenance, soldiers at the front are exhausted or even die or get injured. This may suggest that RUAF has large reserves, so they have no problems in rotating troops?
