For me it's not the extravagance but the artwork. The fine details of metalworking capped by gemstones, and especially the pieces with moving parts, should impress everyone
Few people would say these objects are not that special, they can be replicated at any time using modern techniques. True it can and they can mass produce it actually. But what makes these objects special is not the materials that make them, it is the skill and the craftsmanship with great detailing without using the modern computers of today and providence. An example is the rock crystal, it takes years just to perfect it, a simple crack on the crystal means they have to discard it and start all over again until they get that perfect egg size transparent crystal. during that time, it takes months to years just to finish that clear rock crystal to produce. So yeah, try replicating it today! if you have enough patience, time, effort, and craftsmanship.
That's what I admire the most about these eggs is the fine craftsmanship that goes into designing and creating such spectacul specimens. I weep for the talents that have faded throughout the ages. We travel the world to view such creations both large and small but don't think to carry these crafts on. I believe the arts to be of great importance and something we don't want to ever loose the ability to create. It seems that no-one wants to put in the time, effort nor have the patience or the skills to craft wonders such as these. How right you are.
I so agree with you here Andrew. There can never be mass producing of these eggs...with what, recycled plastics lol? I love the job Joan Rivers did on reproducing some of them but they pale in comparison as lovely as they are. Oh for the old days of true design and flawless craftsmanship!
Thank you for posting this, I never grow tired of seeing these amazing works of art. My sister always knew where to find me at the NOMA. She literally would spend the entire day roaming the museum only to step into the Faberge Room to find me still standing transfixed in front of the faberge pieces. I simply walked from one display case to the next and lost myself in the sight. It has been years since I visited. I have not been back since hurricane Katrina. The wonderful part of my visits was that a great deal of the time I was completely alone in the room with the collection and was able to view them in total uninterrupted silence. It was absolute bliss.
One day on a whim, I popped into a museum in San Francisco. To my shock and surprise a Faberge collection was being displayed. To actually see them in person. I'll never forget the feeling of my breath catching in my throat and suddenly being covered in goosebumps at first sight. An experience of a lifetime. No photo or video could ever do justice to their beauty.

Anyone who has had the honor of viewing these masterpieces that belonged to the Imperial Romanov family is so very fortunate. If only I could view them in person I would feel so privileged, especially the eggs that were given to Empress Alexandra by Tsar Nicholas II.
It would be amazing to see the whole collection together to remember the reason for the eggs' creation and commemorate the astounding craftsmanship on display in each creation. It is unfortunate that the like will never be seen again.
Awesome presentation! I've seen the Faberge collection twice, once in Munich, Germany and again in Richmond, Virginia. The collection in Munich included Jewelry, utensils, dining supplies etc. It was amazing! The show in Virginia was only the eggs. Both were Beautiful! I knew a lot about Faberge before these times as I was teaching egg decorating classes at the time, and made it a part of my class. Love this video!😻
Most of them are in Museums but not for sell. Lenin sold the eggs to finance yet another Revolution. The 12 or so Imperial Romanov Eggs legally belong to Paris, and America
You are my favorite jewellery reviewer! I like how much effort you put in your research. As well as how you explain the historical context and how it is special in terms of craftsmanship . Your end statement is very true! Well edited impressionof the Romanov lifestyle . All great work 👏
Several decades ago, some of the Faberge eggs were on display in an art museum in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. One (or maybe two?) was stolen, and the case remained unsolved. I don’t recall the circumstances, but the thief was finally caught, after driving around for months (years?) with the hot merchandise wrapped in oily rags in the trunk of his car. The item was recovered. As a further note, wasn’t there supposed to be a large diamond hung from the interior roof of the Coronation Egg?
I love these Faberge eggs. I think the peacock egg is my favorite it’s hard to decide because everyone is so lovely❣️. Breathtaking, everyone. Thanks for this wonderful documentary. It was great!!

If I had unlimited money I'd do this for my girlfriend. I know people say it's not about money in a relationship and that small things are more important. I just feel like she deserves the world and i want her to know how special she is to me.
I saw some of these many years ago in Stockholm. The Winter Egg by Alma Pihl's design is my absolute favourite. Emanuel Nobel had some similar (frosty window) pieces made for him before the Csar got his. Alma Pihl later on worked as an art teacher in Finland.
In Cape Town in 1998, I saw a sign for a Faberge egg exhibition. My girlfriend and I went into the building and found it. A room, with one 20 year old blond, NO security whatsoever, no locks, cameras, nothing…and more than 50 faberge eggs on open display…it would’ve been the easiest heist in history if I’d been criminally minded…which only occurred to me years later 🙄
That was so amazing to watch Andrew and put together magnificently! I adore the workmanship and the designs Faberge and his team came up with. I've always loved the simplicity of the White Egg with the hen inside but they just became so grand that it's hard to ever choose just one. The Portrait Egg is incredible due to such fine artworks painted on such tiny panels. The Winter Egg is another stunner as is the Peacock Egg with the mechanical peacock. Like you've stated at the end, it is hard to fathom how out of touch the Romanovs were having such extravagant gifts made up whilst so many were starving. It would be nice if Russia was given the chance to buy them back whenever someone wants to sell one. Imagine having them all together! I often wonder if the three that are lost are truly lost or whether their location and owner has remained secret? I loved how you finished off the end, so proud. Hope you're holding up okay and getting some time to rest. Winter is not far away for us so we are just entering our flu season. Only time will tell. Keep safe, Kris 🇦🇺
True, the problem with the Monarchy at time was the notion of divine grace the throne was given to them by God. They were educated in such a manner that they where blinded by the truth. The truth about their people’s condition.
Remember the third imperial egg, that man was about the melt the egg just to get enough gold from it, luckily he goggled that figurine, and lo and behold it was one of the missing Faberge egg, eventually he earned millions out of it. It was truly an amazing find 🤗
@@AndrewPidor That's the same reason that the Japanese were bombed during WW2 as they believed their Emperor to be divine and god-like. Even after the first bomb was dropped they refused to surrender as that is how much they believed in their Emperor and the Allies even had to convince them after the second bomb was dropped. As you said, blinded. You know that all through my years growing up, I never looked up to anyone as being greater than myself, most especially celebrities and royalty. I have always felt we are all the same with some getting lucky to have talents that put them in the public eye therefore making them rich and others then put them on pedestals. I just don't understand that but maybe I think differently from others. I find that everyday people have just as interesting stories to tell of their lives and I'm more interested in them.
@@AndrewPidor I often wonder about the missing eggs. This one, that you referenced, turned up so there is always hope for the others. What concerns me though is if someone has them and want to enjoy them secretly without the world knowing, I think that's unfair. At least give us hope that they still exist. How close that egg came to being melted! Thank goodness for Google!
Yes, true, everyone is special and everyone has a story to tell. What makes us unique as a human being is our differences not all human are a like but we can liked the same thing. 🤗
So so true, remember the rock crystal is so delicate but the intricacy of the art was astonishing and by the way, there were no machines at that time, it was all carve by hands.
8:48 This one looks like something you'd find on Galadriel's table. It really is magical. These were also national treasures. A bit like paintings. Something to show the grandeur of your empire. Quatar guy has all the money in the world but he cannot make one of those. Only the Russia of the Tsars could.
I used to like visiting the Forbes Museum in Manhattan where he exhibited his many eggs. They were magnificent. I think that Forbes either loaned , gave , or sold them back to Russia.
Beautiful craft! Awesome tradition of the creative expression of love, so intricate, so amazing! Thank you for sharing knowledge of the Russian culture!
The craftsmanship required to make the tiny treasures inside those eggs is amazing! The eggs weren't that large, and the trains, carriages, and other items inside were smaller, and they actually worked! It's so sad that there aren't craftsmen today that can do this. I suppose there are some, but it wouldn't be profitable for them. Such a sad, lost art.
Wonderful video, I find it hard to pick a favourite but I do like the mosaic egg-primarily because of the cameo portrait of the children🇮🇪😊 thank you for the video
good pick, the mosiac egg is made of platinum that is hand cut to create a mesh, then all the gems are put on the mesh. It is an amazing creation, even in todays standard, to create a mesh out of platinum in perfect square.

I thought of you straight away when I saw the title. I'm sure this has made your day. It's such ashame when collections are broken up due to Wars and Revolutions. Just look at the poor Amber Room. I suppose this is what occurs when people run riot looting whatever they can while not realising the significance of the items they are taking and separating. I do regret the decision that was made to murder the family instead of letting them go into exile. Maybe you can add going to Russia to your Bucket List and see the land of your ancestors whilst viewing the Romanov Collection as well as the re-creation of the Amber Room. I really wish that more people would be as creative as they were in the past before all these skills are completely lost.

Carrying a lavish lifestyle thanks to the suffering and subjugation of millions of people was their absolute godgiven prerrogative.
The craftmanship is amazing to say the least.
The best short video about Faberge Egg 🥚 Thanks Andrew Pidor for sharing all the best 🥂

'...in 1918, after the death of the Romanovs..'
Death? They were brutally & sadistically murdered !
Such an interesting video to watch. The Faberge Eggs are just breath taking.
What makes these Faberge eggs special, is the Romanov family and Faberge himself.
Amazing how people last time are very talented w their craftsmanship and everything I loved it.
Hello there Cassandra thank you so much for dropping by.
Andrew Pidor loved it! ❤️
Anyone who has had the honor of viewing these masterpieces that belonged to the Imperial Romanov family is so very fortunate. If only I could view them in person I would feel so privileged, especially the eggs that were given to Empress Alexandra by Tsar Nicholas II.
Exquisite doesn't begin to cover the breathtaking craftsmanship.
Thanks for caring Dave Seavey,
I needed it.
Your friend forevermore,
❤Lucia ❤
Thank you Gabrielle
That was a work of art. The details are marvelous. The skills to detail and beauty is beyond your imagination
Thank you very much!
Thank you very much!
I never really paid attention to the Fabrege eggs but after this video....each one is a special master piece...once of a kind..I need them ALL !
Yes they are 😊
That Emerald knecklace is stunning 😊😊
Great video!!! I love that you showed the movement of the eggs!
The detail is soooo impressive!
Thank you very much! This video was really interesting. Beautiful eggs. I can't even pick a favorite. Each is wonderful.
Hello there, 🤗👋🏼 thank you so much for dropping by, i am just glad you enjoyed it.
I once had a Faberge egg pendant that was very old. It was very pretty...in green, with a gold cross on it. It was a gift.
Russia should buy back all those beautiful faberge eggs and put in museum for the public to see and enjoy.
Yes I guess they should...
CSAK IS OROSZOKAT ILLETI, NEM A VILÁG MILLIOMOSAIT...
Most of them are in Museums but not for sell. Lenin sold the eggs to finance yet another Revolution. The 12 or so Imperial Romanov Eggs legally belong to Paris, and America
Why? Putin would just steal them for himself! They are safer scattered to the four corners of this earth and kept safe.
I don't know if they have the cash.
You are my favorite jewellery reviewer! I like how much effort you put in your research. As well as how you explain the historical context and how it is special in terms of craftsmanship . Your end statement is very true! Well edited impressionof the Romanov lifestyle . All great work 👏
Wow, thank you!
Yeah, but they are BEAUTIFUL!!!!
What a craftsmanship.

Spectacular craftsmanship.
If I had unlimited money I'd do this for my girlfriend. I know people say it's not about money in a relationship and that small things are more important. I just feel like she deserves the world and i want her to know how special she is to me.
Make her something for her with your own hands to show how special she is to you.
😅
Incredible art, skills, beauty and tragedy! Enjoyed the video and narrator, thank you!
They are all amazing but WOW that winter egg makes my brain hurt. How in the hell was that achieved?
So so true, remember the rock crystal is so delicate but the intricacy of the art was astonishing and by the way, there were no machines at that time, it was all carve by hands.
8:48 This one looks like something you'd find on Galadriel's table. It really is magical.
These were also national treasures. A bit like paintings. Something to show the grandeur of your empire.
Quatar guy has all the money in the world but he cannot make one of those. Only the Russia of the Tsars could.
Those eggs are very exquisite and magnificent. It's such a delight to discover this video. Thank you.
Your so much welcome i am glad you enjoyed it, stay tune for the next video, the jewels of the maharaja of India
Beautiful presentation of great art and history !
Wow! Spectacular! Thanks , Andrew!!!
I used to like visiting the Forbes Museum in Manhattan where he exhibited his many eggs. They were magnificent. I think that Forbes either loaned , gave , or sold them back to Russia.
Yup! True some of them were sold back to Russia for over $100 million
It is gut wrenching to watch these people handling artifacts like that without wearing gloves.
Stunning!!! Thank you for the glimpse of this incredible history! 💕
Your welcome Jeri
Beautiful craft! Awesome tradition of the creative expression of love, so intricate, so amazing! Thank you for sharing knowledge of the Russian culture!
The craftsmanship required to make the tiny treasures inside those eggs is amazing! The eggs weren't that large, and the trains, carriages, and other items inside were smaller, and they actually worked! It's so sad that there aren't craftsmen today that can do this. I suppose there are some, but it wouldn't be profitable for them. Such a sad, lost art.
I've always been fascinated by them, it would be a huge thrill to be able to hold one and gaze at it closely.
Peter Carl Faberge was a genius
He was 🤗
Wonderful video, I find it hard to pick a favourite but I do like the mosaic egg-primarily because of the cameo portrait of the children🇮🇪😊 thank you for the video
good pick, the mosiac egg is made of platinum that is hand cut to create a mesh, then all the gems are put on the mesh. It is an amazing creation, even in todays standard, to create a mesh out of platinum in perfect square.
Truly microscopic masterpieces.
I have read about is,very beautiful video of the romanovs familie and faberge, thank you janny,
thank you andrew, such important history. very touching.
Thank you Tim
I get very impressed with the stories I am loving the stories of faberge eggs...
The peacock egg is my favorite! Always loved that one❤️
Good choice!
Thank you very much! Excellent, much appreciated!

I love watching the video again and again.....to understand better....
Guess you can't take it with you🤣
This was fabulous🌹thanks Andrew💚
These are some of the most beautiful objects of art ever made.
Wouldn’t it be something if all the museums and private collectors who have Imperial Eggs willing lent them to a super-duper once-in-generation (if not once in a lifetime) display? ALL the Fabrege eggs together again, if only for a little while (a few months to just one year)!
Omg 😱 it would be marvelous!!!!

I have two Faberge eggs! One has a beautiful Nativity Scene! The beautiful jewels are amazing.
I saw a wonderful exhibit of the Imperial Eggs at the Bellagio Hotel Fine Art Museum in Las Vegas about 15 years ago. I doubt I will ever see them again..just extraordinary!
OMG I absolutely loved this video! You knew I would! Bravo! You had to put a lot of your time into this one. My favorite, I think, is “The Equestrian egg!” But they all are fabulous! I’d love to go to the kremlin and St. Petersburg to view the entire Romanov collection, what’s left of it!
😅, i knew you would love these, you have been patiently waiting for it. I made the video because in several messages that you post. It was always Fabergé and the craftsmanship that they have. I am just glad that it made your day. 🤗
Yeah the amber room. Oh how i wish i could see that..even thought it is no longer the original one. But still would love to gazed my eyes on it.
@@AndrewPidor But how incredible that they were able to recreate it! Lucky they still had the skill to do it too. Well, you're alot closer than I am so I'm sure you'll get to see it before me. You'll deserve a good rest and holiday after this pandemic finally eases. There's an idea for another video, top ten lost treasures?
@@krisushi1 hmmmm that is a very nice idea actually, the lost treasure. hmmm i like it.
The coronation egg is the nicest ( to me anyways)the colors are on point, carl fabrege is a SAVAGE at craftsmanship and being meticulous.
I am loving the stories of faberge I in joy it very much...
The Bolsheviks were such a detriment to Russia, it is simply horrific what beauty they deprived the world from. The tragedy of the loss of their Czar and his sweet family, but all the other beauties that were lost as well. Simply all heartbreaking.
What a magnificent achievement! It's divine truly uplifting to see such beauty & detail. Thank you
Art is not unjustified. It is the reflexion of our souls. It is always justified.
I saw some today at V&A I saw the Hen egg. I saw the lovely Mosaic egg too. The Tzar was very extravagant.
Wow, these eggs 🥚 are exquisite. It's a lot of detail that goes into making one of these. I see why there so expensive. Wow
Thank you so much 🤗
Breathtaking... superb craftsmanship... truly awesome unlike anything I have seen or will ever see, beauty unmatched😍🥰😘
there are amazing aren't they
This is such an interesting and beautiful upload.
