There is a black guy where I to work at, we always are joking around he told one staff she was about 20 that we are brothers that we have different mothers, He called me his brother from another mother. she believed him. Then everybody started to believe it. well, it got back to HR they called us both in and told one of us had to quit because they do not allow family members to work here. we both started laughing. told the lady in HR that it was a joke that we started.

It still amazes me how young Sherman Hemsley was irl while playing George. He's only 35 years old here (just 11 years older than "Lionel" in real life actually. And Isabel Sanford is 56! She's 21 years older than Sherman!! Norman Lear has said in interviews that they loved Sherman Hemsley's audition for George so much they "aged" him with grey hair so he'd look more convincing. No one could have played these parts better!!

Wow. Those shows had a message and it simply was that it takes time to break the racist mold but laughter breaks it faster. As a generation X child I grew up hearing all races of boomers not wanting anything to do with the other even my own Hispanic grandparents didn’t believe in mixing. But knowing their views on race had no effect on us and we laughed knowing they were wasting so much energy on race only to end up dying bitter. We knew growing up that the boomers had to go. Those shows were funny and if you didn’t laugh then you are probably fighting a battle with yourself.

You know, this show touched on the fact that people are inherently racist, but it's not out of hatred, it's because it's a natural thing to understand people who look like you, and people who do the things you do, and at the end of the day, a man will stand with his race above all others, what else is there for him to do? I've watched Muhammad Ali speak about keeping the races separate, and he was NOT speaking from a place of hate, he just didn't want to see the purity of his race diminish, or for black people or other people to go extinct because the mixing of the races would make that happen. He wasn't wrong, and he explained it perfectly!
