Hey everyone, thank you so much for watching! Please consider subscribing to the channel. I had so much fun with this film, and had a great time making the skit! I've got many more John Carpenter films coming your way. Also, what is your dream car (modern or classic)??
I mentioned some more classic ones in my comment but I'll add after 2000 uh a 2008 Chrysler 300 a 2025 Chevy Tahoe and the revamped PEEL P50 (please Google that car). Any chance to talk about cars is a chance I'll take
We had a 69 Mustang when I was growing up in the early 70s, so I'd probably like to have one of those again, mostly for sentiment's sake. Great reaction and skit!
Classic. I WISH I had a souped up 1970 Volkswagen Baja Bug, with THICCCK FAT rally rim racing tires, a shiny chrome exhaust pipe sticking out of the back metal carriage on the diagonal, and a shiny chrome carburetor scoop coming out of the hood. Light bars on the front and back of the roof, the full 1970s muscle car look and vibe. Paint it red, white, and blue, with black accents. 🟥⬜️🟦⬛. Yes PLEASE.👍
Nice! I like the 69 body style, and how there was more and more options available to get better performance and power. Thank you for the kind words, and I'm glad you enjoyed!! :)
Yeah Dennis is a friend that everyone should have. He doesn't care about the social hierarchy and well go above and beyond to be there and help you out. I like how Dennis portrayed the character in both situations. He was always trying to look out for Arnie. Whether that was Nerd Arnie or Deranged/Dangerous Arnie.
"Whoa, whoa. You better watch what you say about my car. She's real sensitive." Fun Fact: Both Stephen King and John Carpenter have cited H.P. Lovecraft as inspiration. Location Location Fact: Portions of the film, particularly Arnie's neighborhood, were shot in the same South Pasadena neighborhood that director John Carpenter used in Halloween (1978). Extra Extra Fact: Oak Park High School's football team was used to film the game; being a small school, all boys from the school had to be used to field both sides of the ball as well as the sidelines. OPHS uniforms were used by the defense, and for the offense, league rival Carpenteria's uniform was used. Automobile Enthusiast Fact: Christine is a 1958 Plymouth Fury. Dennis' (John Stockwell) car is a 1968 Dodge Charger 440. Buddy's (William Ostrander) car is a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro. Will Darnell's (Robert Prosky) car is a 1974 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. Arnie's (Keith Gordon) parents' car is a 1971 Volvo 144 Automatic. The bulldozer is a Caterpillar 977 K. Movie Magic Fact: To simulate the car regenerating itself, hydraulic pumps were installed on the inside of some of the film's numerous Plymouth Fury stunt doubles, a mock-up in plastic that looked more like metal on camera than actual metal as it bent and deformed. These pumps were attached to cables, which were in turn attached to the cars' bodywork and when they compressed, they would "suck" the paneling inwards. Footage of the inward crumpling body was then reversed, giving the appearance of the car spontaneously retaking form. Seeing Double Fact: As a joke, Alexandra Paul's twin sister, Caroline Paul, stood in for her during the scene during the ride on the bulldozer. According to Paul, she took her sister to the set and, with the help of the hair, makeup and wardrobe departments, she dressed up as Paul's character Leigh and went to the set with John Stockwell to shoot the scene. They shot her sister Caroline helping drive the bulldozer and then Paul walked out and jokingly asked John Carpenter if he had fired her. Carpenter later admitted he had thought there was something different about her but couldn't put his finger on it.
Hey my friend, apologies for the delayed response! That's so cool to find out that this film was around the same location as Halloween. Like I've mentioned, I'm a fan of the Halloween franchise and it would be interesting to think about this story taking place in the same universe. Also, in the film Halloween Ends, there's a main character named Cory Cunningham who reminds me of Arnie. The car regeneration was SO AMAZING! I love how they achieved that visual and it also breaks my heart to think about all the cars that were destroyed during filming. Thank you for sharing these awesome details as always! ❤
Thanks so much Hector! Yeah man, we did 3 takes of the car driving behind me and my wife got a little too close one time haha! I think she contemplated putting me on an episode of Snapped for a second lol!
1:01:37 I really love how you live and feel with the story, that's how I watch movies too. Some ppl can be very smart and analytical when watching, and that's just as well. I prefer letting the story suck you in and enjoy the ride, it's an experience.
OH HECK YES! I love when a scene/moment just completely sucks you in and you're just in awe at what's going on. I love when I edit because it gives me a chance to watch it all over again and pick up on things I missed, and this is a film I like even more know after having the time to edit it frame by frame. :)
I absolutely love that shot of Christine's headlights coming on to heal herself with Arnie standing in front of her. John Carpenter's anamorphic lens filming is so badass with the horizontal light streaks on shots like that!
I've been obsessed with it since watching it! Such a great film. It didn't need gore or bloody kills, because it had so many other amazing elements that elevated it.
@@jessebatres6895 yeah John Carpenter had been heavily criticized because of the failure of The Thing. Christine was the next film and I feel he did amazing things in both films. Instant classics
@@jessebatres6895 A sweet visual for sure. Speaking of John Carpenter, did you see Escape from New York yet? Snake Plissken is a bad ass. The sequel is crap though and they did bring back Snake Plissken.
The stunt driver for that was extremely fearless. Especially given that they had to do multiple takes because the car would stall, due to the fire starving the engine of air.
Thank you so much Mark! I'm glad you had a good time with it my friend! I would've loved to have added a few more things to the skit, but I'm glad how it turned out. I had to run down the road 3 times because some neighbors walked outside haha! It would've looked funny if I was "Being chased to be killed" and my neighbors just off the side watching and smiling haha!
It's so badass! And I love how they chose to have Christine slowly creep and gain on Buddy. It makes it more intense and sinister, like she enjoys playing with her victims or likes to drag out their impending doom so they're filled with fear even longer.
69 Charger.. 77 Trans Am... 71 Cuda... 69 GTO Judge and last but NOT Least... the one and only 58 Plymouth Fury AKA Christine!! Those are my classic dream cars!!
Dude that's a hell of a badass list! That 71 Cuda is in a class of its own, and love all the options you've got on here. I love the 69 charger as well, but that 70 and 68 models just speak to me a little differently.
@@jessebatres6895 I will be honest.. I am a child of the 80's.. so.. the 69 Charger is my favorite.. because I am a HUGE Dukes Of Hazzard fan/ "General Lee fan! But.. I do like the 68 and 70 as well! lol 🙂
Thank you so much! It just felt like the best way to end the skit :) Glad to have you on this journey with me man and I've got a lot more reactions and content coming your way!
Yet another fantastic reaction Jesse. You spotted everything from score to effects & emotions. Can tell how much you enjoying these films. Wonderful to see again. Well Done👍🏻
Man, I just KNEW you'd love this movie because of your passion for cars, but I'm glad you picked up on all the other elements that make this film special. John Carpenter's dark synth soundtrack gives this movie SUCH personality and atmosphere, and of course his camera work is just superb. As for the backstory for Christine, it's said some people are just born bad; I think it must've just been the same with Christine.
Every time I see his mother, I picture Smantha Sanders, some people know what I'm talking about...that show with Sanders was addictive, even for people like me that hate those kinds of shows. Awe the 90's.
I'm loving your reactions to Stephen King adaptations. And you are quickly becoming one of my favorite TH-cam reactors. (Your Star Wars reactions completely won me over lol) As a huge Stephen King fan since a young age, I would like to make some recommendations. I already recommended Misery after watching your reaction to Carrie, but there's plenty more worth watching and reacting to. Keep up the great work! Cujo The Mist Thinner Salem's Lot Gerald's Game The Dead Zone Doctor Sleep (sequel to The Shining) The Green Mile (you'll need tissues) The Shawshank Redemption Children of the Corn (the original 1984 version) Dolores Claiborne (also starring Kathy Bates and also recommended by someone else on your Carrie reaction)
Thank you so much Edith! I'm glad you're enjoying the reactions, and I really appreciate the sweet and kind words! :) By the way, I've got misery coming early November. I'll be watching The Shining tonight, and I'm super excited for it! The rest of these films are on my list, and I can't believe how many Stephen King books have been adapted to film. It's also awesome that there's a variety of genre's besides horror. Thank you so much for watching, and please always feel free to reach out and give feedback :)
So if you watch the dates Christine is still in disrepair on October 9th. Then when Arnie arrives at the football field with Christine all fixed up the date is November 9th. So it took less than a month to fully restore Christine. At the same time the odometer went BACK 4,000 miles. And Arnie could now see perfectly without his glasses. He no longer needed glasses despite being basically blind at the start of the movie. So as Christine is restored, Arnie's vision is restored as well.
This was the very first movie I rented on VHS cassette. We also had to rent the VCR to play the movie. When she got herself back together, we thought that was so awesome! We were talking about how awesome it was, and the friend that helped us hook up the VCR said hey guys, we can watch that again! That was just the coolest thing back then. This movie has a special place in my heart because of that night.
Love your skit. Dude. Me gusta mucho. Much success in all you do. Love the movie Christine it's one of my favorites. Love your channel and you make good choices in movies. Kuddoos.
Thank you so much Mike! It was super fun to film it, and I'm looking forward to bringing you some other skits :) I appreciate the continued support my friend!
Great Reaction and skit, I have also thought the songs that were playing on the radio was Christine away of expressing herself. In the book it's starts a little different, so the theory is that Christine was posseseed by the original owner and then Arnie took on the same characteristics as the original owner, so that why you noticed Arnie say the somethings. With John Carpenters movie he always makes his own music scores, also I was reading that they had 17 different versions of cars for the movie. It just depend on which scenes were bing filmed. This is one of my favorite movies by John Carpenter beside Halloween, and good one is They Live.
Thank you so much Christina! I'm glad you enjoyed it :) Ah that's awesome to have that additional backstory from the book. It makes a lot of sense with how Arnie started saying certain things, and seeing his behavior evolve. Thank you so much for sharing that! I have a feeling John Carpenter is gonna be a go to director for me any time I want to sit back and just watch a great movie. I LOVED The Thing! Carpenter has such an amazing feel for music and how a certain scene can be elevated with a particular score or sound effect. I haven't seen "They Live", so it's one I'll be checking out soon as well. :) Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
There are some differences, but I think the differences serv the media they're in well. The stuff in the book works for the book. The stuff in the movie works for the movie. And the differences might not work well in opposite media.
Ihave this movie watched i think 40 times and still i like him,There is another movie called TE CAR with James Brolin is also great,it is a killer car without a driver.
A few people have mentioned that film, so I think I might have to check it out. I saw a picture of it when I was googling pics of Christine and it looks so sinister and creepy!
I was just waiting to see your reaction when Christine was chasing Buddy's car. When it slid into the gas station and smashed into his car the look on your face was priceless. 😜 Excellent reaction as always brother, keep 'em coming. Much love from the UK. ❤️ 👍 🤙
OH GOD!!! That was so PAINFUL!!! I just pray they did that in one take and only one beautiful Camaro was lost during the filming of that scene. It was funny how Buddy said "Look at my car" after what he and his goons did to Christine lol! And thank you so much for the continued support my friend! Hope everything is going well over in the UK :) ❤
One thing I have just picked-up on, after watching this movie dozens of times over the years, the word shi**er is Christine's word. Arnie starts using it even though he never heard the old man say it. Only Dennis heard it. And the old man only says it because his brother learnt it from Christine. Great skit btw.
Eh... In the book, Roland LeBay was absolutely evil before Christine existed. And he had enough clout to get a custom paint job from a factory that didn't do custom paint jobs. IRL, all 1958 Plymouth Furys were that drab beige color from the factory. Any custom paint would have to be aftermarket.
Great reaction! Really enjoying your analysis during and after watching. The "Show me..." scene is my favorite of the movie, with flaming Christine a close second. Carpenter's use of the sound sting for Christine's supernatural nature is classic Carpenter, who does the music for all his movies (with The Thing being the big exception). The way he elevates Christine to a chilling sentience through the use of the radio is just fantastic. For Stephen King's other killer car movie - Maximum Overdrive. It's not good, but is so insane it needs to be seen to be believed 😅
1. If Buddy Riperton is young enough to be in high school so am I. 2. You're not going to get a decent car for $250 in 1979. I know. 3. He should have gone after Darnell financially after discovering Christine was trashed in HIS garage. 4. There was a story line where Dennis and Leigh were in a relationship but it was cut out because it would have made the movie too long and it would have changed the dynamic of their relationship with Arnie. 5. Loved Harry Dean Stanton.😇 6. Christine's windows were blacked out so we can't tell if Arnie is driving her or if she's killing Moochie, Rich and Buddy. 7. Arnie's "job" for Darnell is running hot stripped parts and drugs. That's why he had an alibi for the attacks. 8. Hell of a performance by Keith Gordon.🤩 9. When Buddy gets his I'm, "Couldn't happen to a nicer guy". 10. Both Darnell and Artie's deaths are different in the book. 11. The odometer goes backwards.
LOL! I wish there was a scene with Buddy and the principal of the school, and maybe the principal said to him, "How long are we gonna do this shit Buddy? You were a senior when I was a Freshman here 25 years ago". 😂 I just looked up deleted scenes and saw one where Dennis and Leigh kiss. Yeah I'm glad they cut that portion of the story out. Thanks for watching and commenting!
1: You'll see this in many older movies and TV shows, where they either cast someone who's way too old, or comically too young for a part or multiple parts. Thus, you'll see some character who's 12 but the actor might be either 20 or closer to 7. Airwolf has examples of both. In one episode, there's a kid who's supposed to be 15, but it very much looks and feels like the child actor they used was 10. Another episode has a group of kids who're supposed to be in the 7th grade or so, but are clearly adult actors. I'm not sure why sometimes they would get younger actors. But older actors was common practice, because they were regular actors and didn't need the restrictions that're placed on using actual kids (can only work so many hours a day, etc). 10: Christine's as well. Carpenter tried to stay as faithful as he could, but knew that some changes had to be made, because it's a movie. In the book, it's LeBay's ghost doing all of the driving, for example, and molding Arnie to be like him. Quite frankly, cutting the ghost out of the movie makes Christine a lot more frightening.
Rosy! Is BEEEEEEEEAUTIFUL!! I was born in 1970, so cars from that era hold a very special place in my cold dead heart. The opening skit😅💀👍 Nice reaction. Though very painful to watch those classic cars get destroyed. The angst is REAL. Sigh.... Unsolicited suggestion: Given your penchant for automobiles, The Car(1977), Mad Max(1979), The Road Warrior(1982) are all movies you may really enjoy. Automobiles play crucial parts in all three movies. I won't spoil The Car for you, but i can say it's a masculine/verile counterpoint to Christine's feminine-like aesthetic. For being 1977, the violent scenes are pretty violent. Well worth your time. Regarding John Carpenter's music score, "Phantasm"(1979) the score is very close to the pensive, ominous, foreboding chimes that are very similar in its melody to what Carpenter composed for Christine. That's another iconic 1970s horror movie that is worth your watch. Off topic: "Dennis"/John Stockell went on to direct and produce studio films and TV content. He's won some very high-profile awards. "Into the Blue"(2005) is his movie. The underwater shots are STUNNING. I've never seen such intense deep blue. His directing style is really good.
Thank you so much Santiago! I'm really glad you enjoyed the reaction and greatly appreciate the kind words :) Trust me, you're heart is neither cold nor dead and you have a lot of decades left! You know it's funny because now that I think about it, I don't think I've had to cover my eyes in many of these reactions but when they started destroying Christine, that was just too much to take lol! Thank you for the recommendations! I'm adding those to my list for sure. Several people have brought up The Car 1977. I actually came across a picture of it when I was googling pics of Christine that car looks sinister and evil as hell! I would expect the grim reaper or the devil to step out of that thing. So I've heard great things about Phantasm, and it's one I'm gonna have to check out as well for sure! Great to hear that Dennis/John went on to have a great career!
@jessebatres6895 Yeah, I feel actually destroying all those classic cars(Sigh) is what really punctuated the tension and emotional impact of the scenes. So in that sense, it really worked. Especially if you're someone who's into classic cars. Your perception of the car in "The Car"(1977) is interesting. If the grim reaper were an automobile, THAT would be it. I forgot to mention that a triple black 1971 Plymouth 'Cuda is HEAVILY featured in the Phantasm and Phantasm II(1988) Very muscled out yet so sleek. The vehicle looks so BAD*SSSS!! Keep in mind that the Phantasm horror films are all very strange/surreal and are all replete with WTF?! moments.
Halloween 3 is the only film of the franchise that I haven't seen, but I'll be watching it later this month. Super excited to check it out, and I've heard that some people hate it and others love it. Looking forward to it :)
@@jessebatres6895 Halloween 3 was the first one I watched. I was very thankful to later find out that it's not tied to the rest of the Halloween movies. It's horrible, and I can't in good conscience recommend anyone watch it
That's a 1968 Charger. A friend of mine got one, almost that clean for like $800 in 1983. You could find cheap muscle cars for sale on curbs and backyards all over back then. Perfect for crazy teenagers.
Thank you so Jeromy! I appreciate the kind words and support! It was fun as hell to make the skit, and will have other skits coming soon as well. Thank you for subscribing and I'm glad to have you on this journey with me :)
First. And gladly so! Love your reactions man! Edit: i actually had to look away at certain points i forgot how much cars being destroyed makes me cringe and be sad.... NICE 67 Mustang bro shits sexy my dream car is a 74 Dodge Charger in dark green a 95 Chevy Tahoe in Burgundy and a 1973 Lancia Stratos in dark blue with gold rims
AWESOME! Thank you so much, and I'm glad you enjoyed the reaction :) I feel you! Whenever Christine was being destroyed I was thinking "This is the saddest and most horrifying moment in movie history" lol! Oh nice! Those old school chargers are just beautiful and badass art on wheels! Thanks for sharing some of your dream cars! Would be so awesome if we could just open our garages and see them all there
YES!!!😂😂😂😂😂 Proper wicked little skit Jess, love, love, love that you used the actual score and 'Little Bitty Pretty One'!!! Nice camera set ups, blinding car and you've got a good eye for directing. Only thing I could say negatively would be the camerawoman's (I'm assuming your good lady) reflection on your back when your looking at Christine..... I would have said to end that Shittterr!!!! but seeing as it's probably your wife on camera duty, I won't lool.
BRO!!! LOL!!! You just made my laugh like a fucking hyena with that last section of the comment! My dogs literally came to check on me 😂😂 Yes, that lovely camera person is my wife. And she does need more of a steady hand with the cameral lol! Now I have an idea of how to avoid those shadows with some lighting :) I always fear how I'm gonna piece the different cuts together and I think I might have to reshoot something, but the first 2 skits (Terminator 2) and (Christine), came out well and I didn't need to shoot additional moments. And yeah man, there's no way I could leave out 'Little Bitty Pretty One' from that scene. I'm so glad you enjoyed the skit, and thank you so much for the kind and supportive words. I'm gonna share your comment with my wife LOL! 😂
I'm glad you laughed mate!! and I hope your wife did aswell lool. Honestly though, when you said you was gonna do a skit I didn't expect it to be made so diligently to 'Christine' or so well!! It really had me in the mood for your reaction and I love how into the films you get (especially feeling sorry for Carrie which is one of my favourites of all time....I cried on first viewing). I wish you'd have done a Carrie skit.... with maybe your wife playing Carrie though as I think, with the right syrup, you could do justice to Margaret White....yeah definitely!!! "EVE WAS WEAK!! SAY IT WOMAN!!!! THE LORD KNOWS YOU AREN'T WEARING A BRA!!! PUT AWAY YOUR DIRTY PILLOWS!!!!" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 As you loved Carrie and Christine... and you are clearly a fellow dog lover... you should have a look at 'Cujo' (1983), bruv....another blinder from Stephen King
32:54 and I have a pretty ominous feeling that Christine somehow influenced Dennis getting injured just the shot of Christine sitting there after everyone’s rushing over there. It’s just feels like somehow creepy like she’s like “ you’re not coming after me for a couple of months mwahahaha”
For the car repairing itself, they had a hydraulic system built into the body of a dummy car to crumple itself, then played the footage in reverse. Then having the windshield tinted so you cant tell if its him being so corrupted as to run them down, or Christine taking care of business herself, followed by the fire stunt? Its all so simple but so genious and effective (though the fire stunt was obviously easier said than done. The driver was practically blind and baking in there)
Thank you so much Michael!! I wish they would've had Buddy own a 69' Camaro. That's my favorite of the classic Camaro's, but I probably would've cried watching it get destroyed by Christine lol
This is one of my favorite movies. they have the book. I listened to the audiobook bro a lot of it’s the same but there’s a lot that’s different that they changed. I recommend listening or reading the book 100%. Actual interesting detail in the book that they didn’t really put in the movie in the beginning when they’re looking at the car for the first time there’s a huge crack on the corner of the windshield, almost like a spiderweb of cracks, but slowly in the book, the crack gets smaller and smaller and eventually fades. In the movie they sort of show it but not really I wish they implemented that
It's insane to see Keith Gordon play Arnie Cunningham in this and then play Rodney Dangerfield's son in the comedy Back To School three years later. Two completely different roles to say the least!!
Yeah I really like that moment too! You can see how Arnie and the detective are sizing each other up, and the detective can see that Arnie is showing some of those psychopathic tendencies.
I did like your praise for the 'show me' camera angles and music. Carpenter is a master of framing and music selection, and you'll be even more convinced the more you see of his films (they did the live restoration by shooting in reverse). This film takes a bit of a bold leap teaming a jock with a nerd and making them friends, by giving them believable dialogue, and keeping them friends for most of the film - even when Arnie is shedding everyone else in his life. Finally, I also find it interesting that you have watched a few revenge films in succession: Christine, Carrie and even Revenge of the Sith, where you have a main character who is unfairly bullied and pushed around... yet they have hidden dark strengths to turn the tables. Even when you feel good for them, they ALL don't know where to stop.
It was such an awesome moment! Loved the score and how that scene was shot, that I just had to include it in the skit. lol! I think my next Carpenter film will be Escape From New York so I'm looking forward to seeing more of his awesome/unique style in that film and his other films. I looked up how they did that regeneration scene and it's so awesome how simple the concept was and how amazing it looked on screen. You know what, I hadn't thought about that so great catch about the Revenge theme in my recent reactions! All the different flaws and insecurities, paired with the tragic outcomes. My next two are Fright Night and The Shining, so a little less Revenge there :)
@@jessebatres6895 Fright Night is a great film (assuming you are taking about the original 80s film) - watch out for EVIL ED! But Escape from New York is one of the best cult films of all time, and the first great collaboration between Kurt Russell and Carpenter. The less you know going in, the better, but you'll see all the carpenter touches that you already recognize - the score will be very familiar, the taking the time to tell the story properly, the great use of unknown actors etc
The leap was made by the book. A lot of what's in the book made it into the film. Except for some things that were trimmed for film narrative/time/budget/safety reasons. The film really is a parallel reality to the book, where most of the important stuff is the same, but a few things aren't. In the book it's very clear that it's LeBay's ghost doing the driving and molding Arnie to be like himself. And instead of a bulldozer, they have a manure truck. I think the film is better without these parts, and that the book is better with them.
My ex husband and i had a 64 dodge polara and a 72 Plymouth roadrunner. His dad had a 63 Plymouth fury and brother had a 71 Plymouth satellite. Neighbor had a72 Chevy chevelle and a friend had a 66 ford mustang. Mom could hear us coming from miles away. Literally!! Police would come over at night and just shoot the breeze with us until 3am. They loved the cars. My new fiancee wonders why I'm a night owl 😊 Ps - the movie is fantastic - one of my favorites - but read the book!!
In June 2021, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Blumhouse Productions announced the development of a remake of the film with Bryan Fuller set to write and direct the film and Jason Blum, Vincenzo Natali and Steve Hoban producing.
I'm gonna start reading up on this some more and see what the early details are. I just hope they keep it as a classic car. Preferably the 58 Plymouth Fury, but it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if they even went with a late 60's/early 70's muscle car. I just pray they don't go with a super modern car or an EV lol
From what I've been told and have read, the '58 Fury was only available in buckskin beige with gold-anodized aluminum trim, unless (like Christine) it was a very special order. So, that opening assembly-line scene is technically correct.
I was wondering about that. A few people brought up that it was only available in buckskin beige, but I wasn't sure if the option was available to order her in red. If so, it makes her origin even more special. Thank you for sharing Doug!
@@jessebatres6895 You're welcome. I'm sure there are already comments below on this, but also by memory: I believe they rounded up about twenty '58 Furies, Belvederes and Savoys, Frankensteined some of them in order to come up with 17 complete cars, and then destroyed all but 2 or 3 in process of shooting. The cars, and the work on the cars, were reportedly about 15% of the film's budget. Side note: My first car was a '58 Dodge Coronet with pushbutton automatic. In those days, Plymouths and Dodges were quite similar, but not identical.
Oh my goodness I love your Skit! And is your car the car I commented and said that it was my dream car, well I want the '68 or '69 but the '67 is a beautiful lady!! I can't believe I guessed that🤣. But I loved your reaction and your funny remarks. 8:55 your " You guys know I can be vulgar" "Should I say it I'm in danger of having an orgasm" 😏 oh WOW OK keep being you!! Are you gonna do John Carpenter's VAMPIRES?! And hopefully one day your wife will join you in a reaction. You speak so sweet of her! ♥️💙
Thank you so much Letha! Yeah when you left the other comment about the car, I was dying not to spoil it and had to keep tight-lipped lol! Your dream mustang is the one I would get if I could get another mustang! The design is so sinister and badass. It looks like it's going fast, even when it's just parked. I couldn't help but say what I was feeling out loud lol! Cars, especially the old school classics do something strange to me haha! I'm definitely gonna be doing John Carpenter's Vampires :) I heard it's pretty graphic and fun! Also, I'm about to watch Fright Night and gonna check out "The Shining" tomorrow night. I've asked my wife, but she's really shy and prefers not to. But maybe one day we get the chance to ❤ By the way, I hope everything is okay after these hurricanes and that nothing too bad happened around your neighborhood
@@jessebatres6895 Yes I love your car I love all classic cars. It's really a mess, but at least I'm alive unfortunately a lot of families can't say that
'68 Coronet. Big thumping 440. Nothing like it. My first was a '69 Charger. Gave it away long ago. Who knew, right? Got lucky with the Coronet. So I'm back in a Mopar B body. It's mechanically identical to the Charger, so the experience is there. Awesome. But, one correction is the Charger in the movie is a '68. The '70 has the wraparound bumper., different tail lights and side markers.
BADASS! I saw some Super Bees recently at a car show at love that late 60's look! Ah man a 69 Charger, hell yeah!! 4 speed by any chance? And yeah I love both the 68 and 70 chargers, but my mind immediately went to 70 lol I love the 68 as well, and my order of favorite chargers is (70, 68, 69). I'd be over the moon with either of those though 😂
@@jessebatres6895 I do love a stick, but these have all been autos. Kitted to Stage 2 so they are high performance in Drive, but also allow full manual control, which makes them great fun for certain situations. I'm always open to a stick swap if the right stuff falls in my lap. I got very lucky on the engine. The car was a 318 car, but this thing deserved the big dog. I found a very low time 440 to build. Snagged a big block 727 trans, and the '68 was the last of the 318 cars to get the 8 3/4 rear, so it's beefy enough for a Hemi when equipped with auto trans. As much of a stump puller as it is, I do have plans for power upgrades down the road, mainly in the heads as the other stuff is already hotter than stock. I feel very fortunate. It was the last car dad dragged home before he passed on, so it's kind of a dual inspiration. Partly for me, partly for him. Man, you would love it here. Cruisin' the Coast 2024 just wrapped up. It's billed as the world's largest block party. You can see online pics from the event. Every year, thousands of cars from all over come down. It's gotten so big the entire MS Coast is involved now.
NICE!!! And that makes sense because even though Christine is powered by some super natural element, she still needs to basically be within reach to kill you
@jessebatres6895 another couple of lesser known 80s movies you may like are The Company Of Wolves (1984) and Legend (1985) starring a very young Tom Cruise.
Neat fact in garage a prank was played on director. Actress fir Leigh had her twin sister come in for a scene and scared him coming up behind him after the scene is over
Carpenter always nails it. Liked the skit. Hot Mustang!! Just don't light up a cigar in there.😄 Like this movie cuz my 1st car was a '55 Plymouth, not quite as sexy as the '58. 10:15 KNEW you'd like Dennis' Charger. 41:18 Ya know, I don't think any of them boys are gonna graduate. Movie must have been Elon Musk's inspiration for the first self driving car.
I just watched Escape From New York, and yeah he nailed it again! And thank you Bill, I'm glad you enjoyed the skit :) I definitely won't be lighting any cigars near it any time soon haha! Yeah that was a sick Charger that Dennis had. I like a vinyl top on a charger! It hurt to see Buddy's Camaro bite the dust. One of the saddest movie deaths I've ever seen lol!
Read the book, won’t spoil but deaths are darker and more brutal. The book talks more of LeBay brothers and phrase "part of being a parent is trying to ki11 your kids." Delves more into Christine supernatural power, why odometer going backward. Also, there are deleted scenes that were included in book like how Arnie tries to reconcile and Dennis hooks up with Leigh.
15:41 - 15:50 & 16:10 - 16:21 😂😂😂 Yeah, these spazzy attempts by Buddy Ripperton to come across as intimidating and edgy make him look more like an 80s Daffy Duck. Daffy Duck: "Hoo-hoo! Hoo-hoo! Hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo!"
Nothing better than classics, either music or cars. Maybe you all will disagree, love the classic Trans Ams....especially the 70's ones. Never had won, just dream about it.
I love the 70's Trans Ams. It's such a crime though that the late 70's versions look so badass but had very little power compared to their younger models.
@@jessebatres6895 I know but that body was so sweet, give me a Pontiac T-top, Firebird Trans Am any day, please. Oh, it would have to be black or possibly silver.
52:38 If you like horror movies with badass classic cars... You should watch the Phantasm horror series... Blacck 1970s Hemi Cuda... lots of great cinematography
While it's listed as a '68 Charger in the movie, that is a 1970 front grill it is sporting. I too said 1970, but it has 1968 tailights, and I believe 68 sidemarkers. I owned my dream car and was forced to sell it when I had to move into an apartment, 1969 Charger R/T. Had nowhere to store it at the time. It was also a well known fact most chop shops in Detroit area resided in public storage facilities. Had a friend rent a storage garage for his Roadrunner. One day it vanished. He unkowingly handed his car to thieves. Ultimate heartbreak. I would have burned the place to the ground. Of all the cars I've been in though, that particular Mustang of yours is the scariest car I've ever been in .... so much power for the size. Wicked.
Ah thanks for letting me know Scott! Yeah I went off of the grill as well. The 70 has a slightly thinner grill than the 68, but I didn't catch the taillights. Oh man a 69 charger RT! WOOOOOO!!!!!! 4 speed? Ah dude that breaks my heart to hear about your friend's Roadrunner! Those bastards man! And yeah I agree with you man, I would've gone apeshit on that place! When I was looking for the right one, I tested about 5 and this one was definitely the clear winner. I'd love to add a little more power to it at some point, but for now it's fun and I enjoy cruising in it :)
The book and the movie are two different experiences, largely because King was still writing the book when the movie started filming, so Carpenter had to work with the material he had and add to it to fill in what he didn't know yet. Several cars were used, including the Fury and the Belvedere. The '58 Fury was never released in red, either, and by comparison was not that desired or popular, which is why King picked it.
Oh man! That's weird but interesting that the film would be in production while the book is still being written. I have to find time to read the book, and will be fun to see which I prefer. Which story do you prefer more Tina? I hope at least a few of the cars ended up with good owners that kept them safe lol!
@@jessebatres6895 I love them both. I was about 10 when I saw the movie, but didn't read the book until maybe 12 or 13. The book, of course, is chock full of more detail, and some of the death scenes are far more epic, but I don't want to spoil anything for you, so I will leave it there. Stephen King in the 80's was that in demand, they were already buying movie rights just based on his concepts. Everything he touched turned to gold. I personally grew up on his films, from the time I saw the original TV movie premiere of Salem's Lot at age 7, I was both thrilled and terrified by all of the movies based on his work. Finally, when I was 11, I worked up the nerve to borrow Mom's copy of Pet Sematary and read my first book by him. I slept with the light on for three days after I finished it and was hooked. I caught up (easily back then) on the rest of his books (including the ones written under a pseudonym Richard Bachman) and I have read every one since. IT is my favorite book. I read that one very close in age to the characters.
Great reaction and skit! I think this is such an underrated Carpenter film. Such a terrific performance from Keith Gordon. I highly recommend "Dressed to Kill" (1980), directed by the great Brian De Palma, who directed "Carrie" and it also stars Keith Gordon, as well as Michael Caine, Angie Dickinson and Nancy Allen, who played Chris in "Carrie." Great thriller in the Hitchcock vein.
Thank you so much John!! This is a film that's my exact flavor and I like it even more now after having the time to see it frame by frame while editing the reaction video. Carpenter really is something special with how he shoots scenes and incorporates elements and builds tension. I've had a few people bring up "Dressed To Kill", so definitely one I'm gonna put on the list. I like the weird cuts and zooms by DePalma. He kept zooming in on eyes, lips, etc., and it was working for me. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
I have both of those on my list :) I heard The Car is a darker and more sinister take on the "evil car" premise. For Maximum Drive, people have been pretty hush hush on the details, which is awesome. Looking forward to both of them! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
Stephen King wasn't big on this adaptation, but it still holds up. The beginning does start like a typical high school movie with some good acting and funny dialogue. "I'll forever love you..." Good song chosen after his death. Did you like his jump scare after the crash? 😜😱
I agree! It holds up really well! Christine's sequences felt so raw and real. Hearing her crash and seeing the sparks fly hurt but is awesome at the same time! I love the high school moments because the dialogue is hilarious, and just brings back some funny high school memories. It's crazy because we know Arnie is there on the ground somewhere, but him flying up like that is still startling lol!
Love Christine - my favourite horror movie. Keith Gordon's transformation was fantastic. He did a phenomenal job in both identities. John and Alexandra were amazing as well - and it has the BEST soundtrack. If you want to see something really cool - check out the music video for Carrie Underwood's Two Black Cadillacs. It features a car that can fix itself - and she actually had to ask Stephen King for permission to do it. Would love to see your reaction to it. Cheers from Ontario, Canada :).
Keith Gordon was phenomenal for sure! That must be such an awesome type of role for an actor to play because they really have to bring out their range and show many different sides and emotions. Awesome!! I also love what John and Alexandra brought. It really felt like two friends that wanted to save someone they care about. I love how we get to see the different sides of the characters (caring, scared, evil, threatening, love, loyalty, etc.) Oh nice, I'm gonna have to check out that video. Thanks for the recommendation! :)
@@jessebatres6895 The entire cast was great - and played their roles perfectly. The book is amazing as well - and of course goes into so much more detail. Carrie's song AND video never fail to give me spooky chills. It's very dark and eerie - actually perfect Halloween viewing. I'm new to your channel and am not sure if you do music as well as movies - but would love to see your reaction to the video. Have a good night :)
i seen a rare 1958 cadillac couple deville at a pismo beach ca vehicle show even the car fish fins had style even when it was bulky it had lot of steel on it
Nice! The design and style is just so beautiful and sleek on so many of the classics. And I love how there were so many options that one could from, and you get your more rare option combinations.
Did you like the comparison of the Switchblade when Mooch got killed? When he was trapped and pulled out his Switchblade and then basically Christine front end became a blade as she was squeezing in to kill his ass.
Oh hell yeah! Great way to look at it. It was like Christine said, "Oh you wanna see a fucking knife?" What's cool about the film is that it didn't need gore or a lot of blood. It's just very ominous and unsettling that this piece of metal and components is evil and will plow down anything that gets in her way
Okay, I was thinking why was that old man, the one selling his brothers car (Christine) so familiar....I had to look it up, it bothered me so much. I was like of course, it's the old man in Home Alone....the shovel guy. He went to see his granddaughter in the play and talked to the home alone kid in a church.
if you loved this movie gotta check out Maximum Overdrive Steven Kings one and only movie he directed Christine but every electronic and mechanical machinery goes AWOL and trys to kill humanity off i love it and a full soundtrack by MOTHERFKIN ACDC!!!!!!!
This was the first time I actually seen this movie and I totally understand why my mom won't put her name on her car lol. Love old muscle cars. My dream car is a 1967 Monty Carlo omg
That's awesome that we essentially got to experience it for the first time together! And lol! this movie must've traumatized your poor mom. My wife is scared to death of the 1937 Ford Coupe. She thinks the grim reaper would choose that car, and when we've gone to car shows, she doesn't like to go near one 😂 And nice man! I love the old school Monte Carlo's. Great cars to just sit back and cruise.
@jessebatres6895 oh yeah the old Monty Carlos were great. Probably couldn't pass a gas station without stopping tho lol I knew a old man who had 1 for sale only 5000$ and it was in ment condition. I finally got enough money for it and I found out he sold it an hour before I got there. Man I actually cried lol
I wonder if they purposely did that to show that Christine possibly picked her own color, and it's cool how it's the only one in the assembly line that's red.
Classic.
I WISH I had a souped up 1970
Volkswagen Baja Bug, with THICCCK FAT
rally rim racing tires, a shiny chrome exhaust pipe sticking out of the back metal carriage on the diagonal, and a shiny chrome carburetor scoop coming out of the hood.
Light bars on the front and back of the roof,
the full 1970s muscle car look and vibe.
Paint it red, white, and blue, with black accents.
🟥⬜️🟦⬛. Yes PLEASE.👍
Great reaction, Jesse! My dream car is a 1995 Porsche 928 GTS.
Nice! I like the 69 body style, and how there was more and more options available to get better performance and power.
Thank you for the kind words, and I'm glad you enjoyed!! :)
Dennis was a nice character. he was a star athlete and popular in school and his best friend was the big nerd on campus.i like the dynamic.
She's real sensitive."
Fun Fact: Both Stephen King and John Carpenter have cited H.P.

It's such a badass moment in the film! I'm really digging Carpenters style! Man each time those headlights come on just gave me goosebumps!
This movie is one of my favorites! There are so many classic scenes and moments.
@@jessebatres6895 surprisingly Stephen King didn't like this adaptation. He says it's too boring 😴 🙄
Christine in flames is bad ass. Love that scene.
Props to Carpenter and the team for that visual! Such a badass shot, and love how she slowly gains on Buddy
That skit was great, dude. You have talent. I’m glad I’m already subscribed. The last thing I need is some demonic car trying to run over me.

Christine on fire scene is definitely my favorite part. Underrated movie.
It's so badass! And I love how they chose to have Christine slowly creep and gain on Buddy. It makes it more intense and sinister, like she enjoys playing with her victims or likes to drag out their impending doom so they're filled with fear even longer.

Christine is a 1958 Plymouth Fury, and the detectives car is a 1977 Plymouth Fury.
Awesome! Great catch! I think you're the only one that has shared that in the comments :)
My first car was a 1984 Plymouth Gran Fury.
How can you not love this man's reactions?

This is one of my favorite movies by John Carpenter beside Halloween, and good one is
They Live.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
I recommend you the book, it's marvelous 🚘📖
There are some differences, but I think the differences serv the media they're in well. The stuff in the book works for the book. The stuff in the movie works for the movie. And the differences might not work well in opposite media.
Ihave this movie watched i think 40 times and still i like him,There is another movie called TE CAR with James Brolin is also great,it is a killer car without a driver.
A few people have mentioned that film, so I think I might have to check it out. I saw a picture of it when I was googling pics of Christine and it looks so sinister and creepy!
Eh. "The Car" is vastly overrated. It's a cheesy B-movie that's more at home being MSTed than something I'd recommend anyone watch "as a good movie".
45:08 BEST SCENE!!!!!!! i always get goose bumps
5. Loved Harry Dean Stanton.😇
6. Christine's windows were blacked out so we can't tell if Arnie is driving her or if she's killing Moochie, Rich and Buddy.
7. Arnie's "job" for Darnell is running hot stripped parts and drugs. That's why he had an alibi for the attacks.
8. Hell of a performance by Keith Gordon.🤩
9. When Buddy gets his I'm, "Couldn't happen to a nicer guy".
10. Both Darnell and Artie's deaths are different in the book.
11. The odometer goes backwards.
He graduated a few years ago in the book. But ya still looks too old lol
LOL! I wish there was a scene with Buddy and the principal of the school, and maybe the principal said to him, "How long are we gonna do this shit Buddy? You were a senior when I was a Freshman here 25 years ago". 😂
I just looked up deleted scenes and saw one where Dennis and Leigh kiss.
@@vladyvhv9579 I'm 63, and already "seen it all". Grease (entire school age cast), Stephen King's "Carrie" with John Travolta, etc.
Salut à toi "Christine" très bon film le top de "Big John" avec "The Thing" et "NY 1997" Vive le bon Cinéma 🎬👍
Rosy! Is BEEEEEEEEAUTIFUL!!
I was born in 1970, so cars from that era hold a very special place in my cold dead heart.
The opening skit😅💀👍
Nice reaction.
Though very painful to watch those classic
cars get destroyed. The angst is REAL. Sigh....
Unsolicited suggestion:
Given your penchant for automobiles,
The Car(1977), Mad Max(1979), The Road Warrior(1982)
are all movies you may really enjoy. Automobiles play crucial parts in all three movies.
I won't spoil The Car for you, but i can say it's a masculine/verile counterpoint to Christine's feminine-like aesthetic.
For being 1977, the violent scenes are pretty violent.
Well worth your time.
Regarding John Carpenter's music score,
"Phantasm"(1979) the score is very close to the pensive, ominous, foreboding chimes that are very similar in its melody to what Carpenter composed for Christine.
@jessebatres6895
Yeah, I feel actually destroying all those classic
cars(Sigh) is what really punctuated the tension
and emotional impact of the scenes. So in that
sense, it really worked. Especially if you're
someone who's into classic cars.
Your perception of the car in "The Car"(1977)
is interesting. If the grim reaper were an
automobile, THAT would be it.
I forgot to mention that a triple black 1971
Plymouth 'Cuda is HEAVILY featured in the
Phantasm and Phantasm II(1988)
Very muscled out yet so sleek.
The vehicle looks so BAD*SSSS!!
Keep in mind that the Phantasm horror
films are all very strange/surreal and are
all replete with WTF?! moments.
Fun fact. 23 cars were used in the making of this Carpenter classic.
Breaks my heart to think about how many might've been destroyed! If I was on set I would've been like, "Can I take one as payment?"
srsly the crunching car effect in reverse looks so good even today.
I looked it up and it's so awesome how they did that! The glass coming back into place is just so badass!
You watched Alien, right? Does the detective in Christine look familiar?
Oh shit! WOW! Man what a character shift for him. Good catch man, thanks for letting me know :)
@@jessebatres6895 Yep great actor dis a lot of movies.
Some of the soundtrack was from Halloween 3. Did you notice that.
It's horrible, and I can't in good conscience recommend anyone watch it
The Car (1977)A small desert town is terrorized by a powerful, seemingly possessed car
I'll definitely be watching that one as well! Quite a few people have recommended it and excited to see another evil car film :)
That's a 1968 Charger. A friend of mine got one, almost that clean for like $800 in 1983. You could find cheap muscle cars for sale on curbs and backyards all over back then. Perfect for crazy teenagers.
I like this movie
Dude great intro man you certainly have some talent bro happy to be a new sub😊🤘😎
Would be so awesome if we could just open our garages and see them all there
@@jessebatres6895 dude fax I don't want a vintage car I need one
YES!!!😂😂😂😂😂
Proper wicked little skit Jess, love, love, love that you used the actual score and 'Little Bitty Pretty One'!!!
My dogs literally came to check on me 😂😂
Yes, that lovely camera person is my wife.
PUT AWAY YOUR DIRTY PILLOWS!!!!"
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
As you loved Carrie and Christine... and you are clearly a fellow dog lover... you should have a look at 'Cujo' (1983), bruv....another blinder from Stephen King
Its all so simple but so genious and effective
(though the fire stunt was obviously easier said than done. The driver was practically blind and baking in there)
The 50's were wild. That was a one year only Chrysler 350. The top model had dual quad carbs. Pretty hot setup for '58.
❤Plymouth Fury 1957/58🇺🇲👍
A beautiful car! Deadly and beautiful lol!
Hello Jesse, I hope you watch The Fog from 1980. Its my favourite of John Carpenter's movies. Watch it late at night.
Oh nice!!! That's one I don't have on my list but adding it right now. And I'll definitely check it out late at night lol! :)
Awesome all around, and loved the skit. ‘67 stang and ‘57 Chevy can’t be beat!
50:45 This exchange between Arnie & the detective was brilliant! Talk about a total transformation 🤓😈🚗
My new fiancee wonders why I'm a night owl 😊
Ps - the movie is fantastic - one of my favorites - but read the book!!
Great casting here.
Keep in mind, the music he's listening to is also effecting him, slowly corrupting him the more he drives, the stronger the hold on him.
The skit was a nice touch.
Thank you Chris! It was really fun making it, and it got interesting whenever I was running and the car got a little too close once lol!
Oh my goodness I love your Skit! And is your car the car I commented and said that it was my dream car, well I want the '68 or '69 but the '67 is a beautiful lady!! I can't believe I guessed that🤣.

And at my house a tree came through the roof and I don't have insurance so I can't afford $3,000 right now so it's got some thick tarp over it.
Very good reaction to an awesome movie!
👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!! :)
The first 3 letters of Christines plate are CQB which in military parlance means Close Quarters Battle.
And the 241 is Two for One. As in 2 battling for 1.
NICE!!! And that makes sense because even though Christine is powered by some super natural element, she still needs to basically be within reach to kill you
@jessebatres6895 another couple of lesser known 80s movies you may like are The Company Of Wolves (1984) and Legend (1985) starring a very young Tom Cruise.
And YES THE FIRE ON THE CAT WAS PRACTICALLY DONE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET NLIND ON FIRE

Christine speaks, especially to Arnie, through the songs she plays, similar to how Bumblebee spoke before he got his voice back...
Ah that a great comparison between Bumblebee and Christine! I love how the incorporated that into this film
Oh hot blonde was john travolta wife she died of cancer few years back
I thought she looked familiar! What a beautiful woman who still had so many years left to live.
15:41 - 15:50 & 16:10 - 16:21 😂😂😂
Yeah, these spazzy attempts by Buddy Ripperton to come across as intimidating and edgy make him look more like an 80s Daffy Duck.

@@jessebatres6895 That shit was 🔥 bro! Keep up the good work!
Nice skit man. Sick car.
Thank you Johnny! It was really fun to make, and had some good and funny interactions with the neighbors lol!
Enjoyed the skit
Thank you so much! It was really fun to make :)
Christine killed the guy in the beginning same wag as darnell
Notice the driver of Charger player GOOSE in TOPGUN
I like even older cars like 1920s or 30s Duesenberg or Packard.
Gorgeous vehicles as well! It would be awesome to have an all black Packard. It would look so sinister on the road :)
As much as Christine is my favorite of all time, you should also watch The Car and Maximum Overdrive.
It's crazy because we know Arnie is there on the ground somewhere, but him flying up like that is still startling lol!
as a classic vehicle fan they did the classic automobile dirty in this to be fair jesse they dont make vehicles like that anymore
I love how we get to see the different sides of the characters (caring, scared, evil, threatening, love, loyalty, etc.)
Oh nice, I'm gonna have to check out that video.
Old Mr Lebay was old man in Home Alone movie
i seen a rare 1958 cadillac couple deville at a pismo beach ca vehicle show even the car fish fins had style even when it was bulky it had lot of steel on it
They used an inflatable model of the car for the car self-repairing sequences.
its a 67 no reflector on fender
This was the first time I actually seen this movie and I totally understand why my mom won't put her name on her car lol. Love old muscle cars. My dream car is a 1967 Monty Carlo omg
Oh and your skit was great. Creepy af
That's awesome that we essentially got to experience it for the first time together! And lol! this movie must've traumatized your poor mom. My wife is scared to death of the 1937 Ford Coupe. She thinks the grim reaper would choose that car, and when we've gone to car shows, she doesn't like to go near one 😂
And nice man!
The 58 Fury only came in beige from the factory in 58.Being red must a have a signifigance.
I wonder if they purposely did that to show that Christine possibly picked her own color, and it's cool how it's the only one in the assembly line that's red.
