I couldn't imagine him having any other catchphrase. No matter what you throw his way, you can believe him when he says "I'll be back". Just the perfect line for an action icon.

So awesome! Oh I miss going to Blockbuster and other video stores as a kid and spending an hour trying to find something. The creative minds back then really knocked some things out of the park, and the absence of CGI (or heavy CGI), meant a lot of practical work and the need for real tangible props and crazy stunts. Truly amazing!
This movie is so insane, because Kyle is the father, but he had to come back in time to become the father and in the future his son sends him back......what a loop. Love it. One of my favorite movies ever.

That broke my heart when it all came around full circle. Reese in the future looking at her picture and falling in love with her over time. And he had no idea that this woman whom he had never met before his journey was thinking of him, and forever in love with him too. Ugh so beautiful and tragic!

So, the reason this hits more like a slasher movie is because the first idea that began the process of writing the movie was the Terminator skeleton coming out of the fire. James Cameron was trying to sleep off some food poisoning and had a nightmare about a metal skeleton coming out of fire; he sketched it a few times, then decided to give it a story and make it a movie. Fun fact: Lance Henrikson (Bishop) was actually one of the finalists for the role of the Terminator; the idea was that instead of a humanoid tank that it looked average, like it could walk into a crowd and just disappear. Also fun fact: The first casting idea for the Terminator was OJ Simpson (who was an actor at the time), but they felt it wouldn't be believable that such a nice guy could be a cold-blooded killer; which is ironic in hindsight. If you want another Cameron film with Michael Biehn (Kyle/Hicks) in it, I'd recommend The Abyss, it's one of James Cameron's more underrated and slept on films.
It's a sci-fi action horror romance. The great thing about this movie is that it was all these different genres at once, and did each of them brilliantly!

Btw, it was the 1st James Cameron film. Aliens was his second and he did it only 2 years after. I'm so glad you recognized Hicks. All of the reactors never did :(
Man so he just came out of the gate swinging!! Some people are just born to do something and he found his calling. By the way, I love that actor. I looked up his work after seeing this film and he's been working a long time, and I'm surprised he didn't blow up and become a household name. He has leading man qualities and has some really good acting chops!

No doubt, The Terminator is indeed a horror movie, a sci-fi action one but still a horror movie. So glad you enjoyed it. Arnold was made for this role and nailed it so hard that he became an icon for the second time (first time being with Conan The Barbarian). The rest of the cast did a perect job too ; nothing wrong with this movie.
What a delightful and thoughtful reaction to this movie! It was so much fun to watch you. I had nightmares about this movie when I was a kid with the terminator skeleton crawling toward me with his glowing red eyes. Definitely horror.

@@jessebatres6895 LOL. That scene with the Terminator pretending to be her mother: I first watched this movie when it was on TV with my dad. When that scene came on, I asked him: "Did he kill her mom?! Is her mom dead!?" and my dad, without missing a beat, was like: "No. Her mom's fine. He's just pretending to be her mom." Years later, I rewatched this scene and thought: "My dad's was a LIAR! Sarah's mom is dead!" Totally creeped me out as an adult.
It was great to see them in the same film again, although Bill Paxton got his ass kicked real quick lol! And Bishop kept getting roasted by the other cop 😂

It is still surprising seeing you watch these classic films for the first time, and KNOWING when something jaw dropping is coming. With this film you see something that is well written, and well filmed and well performed (yes you are right that Arnold is well suited to the low dialogue films - like Keanue Reeves). Kyle (Michael Biehn) is central in that he is a fanatic on one hand but as we discover has a heartbreaking vulnerability.
My sister and I would watch movies and tv shows together all the time growing up and she hated how I would break out in commentary during the film lol! In her defense I can see how that's pretty annoying. Fortunately, back then it was just a quick sentence and I would shut up or I would talk her ear off about the film afterwards. lol! Keanue Reeves is a great example. In his John Wick movies, his dialogue progressively went down but he's just so awesome and puts in the work to make it all look amazing! I loved the character of Kyle Reese and it's so heartbreaking to see how his journey ended. His dialogue here was haunting and compelling. I'm really surprised the actor (Michael Biehn) isn't a household name. He was incredible in Aliens and amazing in this! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
You will hear all sorts of trivia in the comments, and I don't know if you managed to understand it after the first watch - but it is one of the most brilliantly written sci fi films ever where horror is a surrounding to what is essentially a tragic love story. A quality of writing and originality that will never be repeated in the cash grabby franchise (that started with the more popular PG13-ized soft reboot - T2). It is a rare example of perfectly written rendering of a so called Novikov self-consistency principle, a known model of time travel in theoretical physics.

I'm curious how it's going to hit for me. I have no doubt it'll be amazing, but damn this one was truly special. It executed so many different at a high level. (Action, Horror, Romance, etc.) I can really point out anything in it that wasn't done well, especially for its time.
I have seen many reaction say around 50 for this movie only...but u r d best becse u feel it ....u know where to appreciate....Cameron direct the way...ur expression same as the direction. Cameron is always a masterclass in direction. U mentioned about camera angle in action scenes...is well said which was ignored by many reactor.... SO KUDOS TO U...I AM SEARCHING FOR 1 REACTOR WHO DID THAT...❤

Before watching your reaction, I came from seeing 2 other T1 reactions that were driving me nuts. Those 2 persons had absolutely 0 engagement with the film, making insane questions/ statements about things the movie was actually telling them had they made the effort to actually listen. Your video saved my day lol. Not only were your comments fun, without missing any important dialogue, but you were in the moment and connected to the movie. the book written based on the movie is a small masterpiece. some cut scenes have found a place in it, which would really be superfluous in the movie, but not in the book. I recommend it to everyone.
@@boqndimitrov8693 It is very well written. Trivia note: William "Bill" Wisher is the actor who plays the cop knocked out by the terminator after the Tech Noir massacre: "1L19". "Billy Wisher" is also a character name in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. IIRC, he was Cameron's friend and roommate in the early days.

Great reaction I agree practical effects are the best and creepiest. Yes my friend, youre correct. This movie is indeed more horror sci fi for sure most agree with you no worries and fun fact. Cameron took inspiration from Halloween's Michael Myers with the execution of the how the Terminator is just unstoppable, that stoic, stiff no human element. You can probably see how if you've ever seen Halloween 🎃. Also thats cool how you understand Spanish, are you Mexican American? Apologies if I'm wrong. I am myself but sadly I forgot most Spanish since I never used it past high-school. This is a classic and I remember the first time I saw this as a kid being an early 80s baby this freaked me out as a 6 or 7 year old seeing this for the first time. Thank you so much! And yes practical effects are so impactful, and it delivers something that CGI just can't do. As you said, it's almost creepier in a way, because they are indeed cutting and damaging the practical effect which adds to the realism. Michael Myers is a great example, and I was getting that vibe while watching the Terminator get back up slowly and that blank stare was very much like Michael Myers. I love the Halloween films, and will be watching (Halloween III Season of the Witch) for the first time in October. My parent were born in El Salvador and I was born here in the States. I'm about 80% fluent, but I get stuck on certain words sometimes and have difficulty getting into the details while speaking Spanish. It was the 1st "I'll be back" ;) If you've never seen it, I highly suggest "True Lies" (1994) also from James Cameron with Arnold which is basically Cameron doing a James Bond movie, an awesome action spy/comedy film with incredible action scenes :)

In college, I worked with a guy who spent some time working in a clothing store in California, and he said Arnold walked in and asked a question about some type of clothing, and then Arnold said to him "I'll be back" and walked away haha! Most of the special effects are done with miniatures. For the T800, they cast a rubber face from Arnold and put it over an animatronic metal skeleton. It was the best they could do for the time and the tiny budget they had.
And it all looks SO GOOD! I love how the animatronic looked. I think some people might feel that it looks to fake, but to me they nailed it. The Terminator is indeed a cyborg, so the robotic movements actually enhance that effect for me. Such a great movie! Thank you for watching and commenting!
The Terminators (T-800 series) all look different, as there's different models, which is basically a different facial and body look (skin covering etc). Arnie is a T-800, Model 101. The one you see in the future flashback of Reese in the resistance tunnel, is probably a different model, like a T-800, Model 102, or an 03, 04, and so forth and so on, each model looking different than the last one. If they all looked like Arnie, they wouldn't be very good infiltration units, as the resistance would figure it out and spot them all easy.

Terminator is an absolute masterpiece and yes Kyle Reeses Michael Biehn truly is an underrated hero. Michael is shockingly has gone down as one of the most under appreciated actor's from the past 45 odd years in my humble opinion.
Oh yeah, you are getting into some great movies!!! The 80s rocks. One of the best decades to be alive during, in all entertainment genres across the board for me. Vasques from Aliens, is in Terminator 2. Kyles name is Michael Bein. Please check him out in "Navy Seals" 1990. It's an AWESOME MOVIE!!!
Got some more 80's action movies in mind! :) There's just something magical about these 80's films and such creativity in them due to limitations in tech and CGI. There's a few classics I've seen like of course The Rocky films, the Halloween films (except for Part III), some of the Nightmare on Elm Street films, but there's so many 80's and 90's classics I didn't see. Yes, most people aren't aware of it but the Terminator is actually a horror movie (with some action elements in it). If you want to react to its amazing sequel (Terminator 2 judgment day) I would suggest the "extented edition" ;)

True! That first kill with him punching through the guy is like a Jason Vorhees kill, and the slow reviving and getting back up is like Michael Myers and Jason as well. Also, once all the flesh melts off and it can only walk during that last sequence, man that's frightening!
"I'll be back." I highly recommend watching the extended version of Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991) with the definitive ending. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that version and adds context that was originally taken out, anyone that says otherwise is pushing an agenda. Fun Fact: The crew had "You can't scare me, I work for James Cameron." t-shirts made. Casting Notes Fact: O.J. Simpson was considered for the Terminator, but the producers feared he was "too nice" to be taken seriously as a cold-blooded killer. Ironic. Director Cameo Fact: Near the beginning of the movie, when Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) receives a message on her answering machine breaking her date, the voice on the machine is James Cameron's. Make-Up Shenanigans Fact: One afternoon during a break in filming, Arnold Schwarzenegger went into a restaurant in downtown L.A. to get some lunch and realized all too late that he was still in Terminator make-up with a missing eye, exposed jawbone and burned flesh. Gun Enthusiast Fact: Arnold Schwarzenegger worked with guns every day for a month to prepare for the role. The first two weeks of filming he practiced weapons stripping and reassembly blindfolded until the motions were automatic, like a machine. He spent hours at the shooting range and practiced with different weapons without blinking or looking at them when reloading or cocking. He also had to be ambidextrous. He practiced different moves up to 50 times. He wound up garnering a compliment in Soldier Of Fortune magazine for his realistic handling of the guns on camera (whereas the magazine usually lampoons movies for their inaccurate depictions of weapons use).
WOAH! About OJ Simpson! Man can you imagine if he got the roll. That's insane! Someone else just mentioned in another comment that this was James Cameron's first film so it must be insane that he made such an impression early on with the crew lol That's so cool that Arnold dedicated himself so much to the roll! I love him, even though he doesn't have the greatest acting chops but that dude is a hard worker and dedicated for sure! His movements and handling the weapons looked fantastic!
@@jessebatres6895 Heh, sorry for chuckling, but I want you to remember something. My generation (Gen-X) grew up thinking this kind of thing was going to happen during our lifetimes. That we would live in a post-apocalyptic world. We had a LOT of movies that covered the subject, plus with the Cold War going on and the "nukes that could drop any minute", we learned to prepare for it. While we don't "wish" for it, we know that we can "handle it" if we survive. I know that you have training (and thank you for your service), but many younger people do not, and don't believe something like that could happen, or worse, think that video games like the Fallout series has properly prepared them. You should know, "Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst."
It truly is frightening to think about this happening, and you're right about a lot of people my age not being prepared if hell broke loose. There would be a lot of panicking and impulsion and limited rational thinking. And yeah that's actually one of the phrases I live by, "Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst". I also have this one, which gets me refocused and on track "There's a solution to every problem".
This is definitely a Sci-Fi Slasher. James Cameron took inspiration from John Carpenters Halloween taking the template of Michael Myers for The Terminator.
Nice! Dude I was getting Michael Myers vibes when the terminator would get up slowly each time it was "presumably killed". That slow walk and him then starting to sprint had me thinking "Oh hell no!" lol
@@jessebatres6895 I saw it in theaters about a month ago, they re-released it, it’s so good. $6,400,000 to make this film too which is wild! Fun Fact: bishop was supposed to play The Terminator. All the concept art has him as Terminator.
The red eyed terminator that massacres the human outpost in the future picture scene is Franco Columbu, Arnold's lifelong friend and fellow Mr. Olympia.
That's awesome! One thing I wonder about is, why they (the machines) would make the Terminator look so massive and muscular because it would be easier to spot them. @@jessebatres6895 Cameron's concept initially was for a deliberately ordinary looking human. In fact, Lance Henriksen(the detective who worked with Lt Trexler) was his casting choice until he had lunch with Arnold. Arnold convinced him that it should be big, burly men. Across the series you'll see both the progression and regression of terminator models.
That dialogue from Reese is so compelling! Genius writing to really engrave it into the audiences minds just how dangerous and deadly the Terminator is. Love it!!
@@jessebatres6895 Exactly. No wonder it has been said that even if T2 is an excellent sequel, and an amazing sci-fi action movie, this original one is more like a horror movie. The relentless, nameless stranger who is constantly on your track wherever you try to hide, and in the beginning you don't even have a clue why he's after you, let alone who.. sorry, WHAT it is! The idea that it won't help you even if you'd manage to loose him.. he'll still find you. It might take weeks, or months, maybe years even, but rest assured, one day he'll get you. A truly chilling thought!

Nahhh, just playful fun. Things were different then. Matt was more like a big brother to Sarah. He wasn't trying anything on the side. Wait til Ripley shows up. Just kidding. Hell, Marvel did it. Can you imagine Sarah Connor AND Ripley. Ill be back. This was the first time. So its really a love story with scifi and horror elements. She said yhe "loved a lifetime's worth." On the photo, Reese said he always wondered what Sarah was thinking. In that moment she was thinking about him.
Yep, we were allowed to be more friendly in the 80s. And you could find someone attractive without being deemed a "creep" or "weird". I miss the 80s, it was fun and more playful back then.
Ah man! I wish you could playful like that nowadays. I feel like my generation is on egg shells now, but good to know that the audience back then saw Matt's actions as playful and big brother like. Dude if Ripley and Sarah ever crossed paths and teamed, condolences to all alien and cyborg villains lol! I can't believe how well the love story worked here! I've rewatched that scene where Kyle tells Sarah his feelings multiple times over the last couple of days. Amazing!
@@jessebatres6895 to me the really heartaching moment is after they make love that when sarah is being playful with reese that its the only part where he smiles and laughs, right before the dog barking warning him the terminator has found them wipes the smile off his face.

The Future War scenes are what us known as "forced perspective" where small models are placed close to the camera to give an illusion of size. The sequel is amazing but T3 - T6 suck though T4 has nice graphics, with a decent story it could have been great. The Skynet story is very similar to "Colossus The Forbin Project" (1970) a film which was way ahead of its time.

@@kevinslayzak1214, indeed! It is the first. Just like Highlander, Back To The Future & Cocoon. First films are untouchable. T2 was rushed & the goofs crept in. 'Nothing dead will go', 'nobody else goes back, noone else goes through', it was smashed. We'd won........
The scene where Arnold Schwarzenegger punches the car window out he actually did that on that scene, James Cameron got a camera an told Arnold to put on his outfit an walk across the street an punch out the car window an then they went to the next scene
Would you say this is scarier than Aliens, Alien, or Predator? Also you barely see it depending on brightness but there's a blood trail on the wall of the cabin The movie's music, lighting, and camerawork add to the tension
Right now I say it's scarier for me. I'll have different videos where I do rankings and I think this is a topic that I'll have to cover, so my feelings may change after I have a chance to reevaluate the different films. Something that is just so chilling is how the Terminator has no emotion. It doesn't wince or scream in pain. It doesn't look at you with anger or hostility. There's just a stone cold face doing all of these horrific things and it maintains this face. Whereas these traits exists in Aliens and the Predator (which I want to revisit the Predator since it's been such a long time since I've watched it). I'm glad you pointed out the cabin scene because that's the one that frightened me the most. We never even see what took place, just the aftermath but we can tell it was BRUTAL!!
It's a scifi horror like the first Alien movie. The sequels lean more on action. I used to prefer Aliens and T2 to the originals, but they can't really beat the first movies for atmosphere. I don't think many movies can top the original Terminator for that intro graphic either.
Stan Winston created The Terminator endoskeleton for I think the first 3 or 4 Terminator movies & ALIENS 1986 creatures, the dinosaurs in I believe the first two Jurassic Park movies & both PREDATOR suits for Kevin Peter Hall an possibly some other movies an I think some of the penguin's in Tim burtons BATMAN RETURNS

Hey Mark, there's definitely going to be some films that I watch that fall under that category. Sequels do tend to concern me, like the sequels going forward in the Aliens universe, which eventually I'll watch. I absolutely must watch T2, especially now as an adult. Which means a sound, intelligent person will freak out because of the imaginative implications of critical thinking.🤔...😱 🎭Can't say enough about PFX! And this was 40 f**kin' years ago!!! I couldn't imagine him having any other catchphrase. No matter what you throw his way, you can believe him when he says "I'll be back". Just the perfect line for an action icon.

To be fair, it's also been a hella long time since I've seen The Running Man; I keep meaning to re-watch it, but never seem to get around to it.
It was in the horror section at the video store back in the 80s you are not wrong. 80s films were way more gritty back then.
So awesome! Oh I miss going to Blockbuster and other video stores as a kid and spending an hour trying to find something.
The creative minds back then really knocked some things out of the park, and the absence of CGI (or heavy CGI), meant a lot of practical work and the need for real tangible props and crazy stunts. Truly amazing!
This movie is so insane, because Kyle is the father, but he had to come back in time to become the father and in the future his son sends him back......what a loop. Love it. One of my favorite movies ever.

That broke my heart when it all came around full circle. Reese in the future looking at her picture and falling in love with her over time. And he had no idea that this woman whom he had never met before his journey was thinking of him, and forever in love with him too. Ugh so beautiful and tragic!

It's SO GOOD!!! I've been listening to it and added the main theme to my workout playlist. Also, the scores during the chase scenes are so thrilling!
So, the reason this hits more like a slasher movie is because the first idea that began the process of writing the movie was the Terminator skeleton coming out of the fire.
James Cameron was trying to sleep off some food poisoning and had a nightmare about a metal skeleton coming out of fire; he sketched it a few times, then decided to give it a story and make it a movie.
Fun fact: Lance Henrikson (Bishop) was actually one of the finalists for the role of the Terminator; the idea was that instead of a humanoid tank that it looked average, like it could walk into a crowd and just disappear. Also fun fact: The first casting idea for the Terminator was OJ Simpson (who was an actor at the time), but they felt it wouldn't be believable that such a nice guy could be a cold-blooded killer; which is ironic in hindsight.
If you want another Cameron film with Michael Biehn (Kyle/Hicks) in it, I'd recommend The Abyss, it's one of James Cameron's more underrated and slept on films.
It's a sci-fi action horror romance. The great thing about this movie is that it was all these different genres at once, and did each of them brilliantly!

When that scene came on, I asked him: "Did he kill her mom?! Is her mom dead!?" and my dad, without missing a beat, was like: "No. Her mom's fine. He's just pretending to be her mom." Years later, I rewatched this scene and thought: "My dad's was a LIAR! Sarah's mom is dead!" Totally creeped me out as an adult.

It is still surprising seeing you watch these classic films for the first time, and KNOWING when something jaw dropping is coming. With this film you see something that is well written, and well filmed and well performed (yes you are right that Arnold is well suited to the low dialogue films - like Keanue Reeves). Kyle (Michael Biehn) is central in that he is a fanatic on one hand but as we discover has a heartbreaking vulnerability.
My sister and I would watch movies and tv shows together all the time growing up and she hated how I would break out in commentary during the film lol! In her defense I can see how that's pretty annoying. Fortunately, back then it was just a quick sentence and I would shut up or I would talk her ear off about the film afterwards. lol!
Keanue Reeves is a great example. In his John Wick movies, his dialogue progressively went down but he's just so awesome and puts in the work to make it all look amazing!
I loved the character of Kyle Reese and it's so heartbreaking to see how his journey ended. His dialogue here was haunting and compelling. I'm really surprised the actor (Michael Biehn) isn't a household name. He was incredible in Aliens and amazing in this! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

It executed both of those elements flawlessly! Such an amazing film!
You will hear all sorts of trivia in the comments, and I don't know if you managed to understand it after the first watch - but it is one of the most brilliantly written sci fi films ever where horror is a surrounding to what is essentially a tragic love story. A quality of writing and originality that will never be repeated in the cash grabby franchise (that started with the more popular PG13-ized soft reboot - T2). It is a rare example of perfectly written rendering of a so called Novikov self-consistency principle, a known model of time travel in theoretical physics.

I honestly think the 2nd Terminator is overated. Its good....dont get me wrong......but the original blows it away. In my top 10 best movies ever.
I'm curious how it's going to hit for me. I have no doubt it'll be amazing, but damn this one was truly special. It executed so many different at a high level. (Action, Horror, Romance, etc.) I can really point out anything in it that wasn't done well, especially for its time.
I have seen many reaction say around 50 for this movie only...but u r d best becse u feel it ....u know where to appreciate....Cameron direct the way...ur expression same as the direction. Cameron is always a masterclass in direction. U mentioned about camera angle in action scenes...is well said which was ignored by many reactor....

the book written based on the movie is a small masterpiece. some cut scenes have found a place in it, which would really be superfluous in the movie, but not in the book. I recommend it to everyone.

Great reaction I agree practical effects are the best and creepiest. Yes my friend, youre correct. This movie is indeed more horror sci fi for sure most agree with you no worries and fun fact. Cameron took inspiration from Halloween's Michael Myers with the execution of the how the Terminator is just unstoppable, that stoic, stiff no human element. You can probably see how if you've ever seen Halloween 🎃.

Michael Myers is a great example, and I was getting that vibe while watching the Terminator get back up slowly and that blank stare was very much like Michael Myers. I love the Halloween films, and will be watching (Halloween III Season of the Witch) for the first time in October.
My parent were born in El Salvador and I was born here in the States. I'm about 80% fluent, but I get stuck on certain words sometimes and have difficulty getting into the details while speaking Spanish.

Most of the special effects are done with miniatures. For the T800, they cast a rubber face from Arnold and put it over an animatronic metal skeleton. It was the best they could do for the time and the tiny budget they had.
And it all looks SO GOOD! I love how the animatronic looked. I think some people might feel that it looks to fake, but to me they nailed it. The Terminator is indeed a cyborg, so the robotic movements actually enhance that effect for me. Such a great movie! Thank you for watching and commenting!

The Terminators (T-800 series) all look different, as there's different models, which is basically a different facial and body look (skin covering etc). Arnie is a T-800, Model 101. The one you see in the future flashback of Reese in the resistance tunnel, is probably a different model, like a T-800, Model 102, or an 03, 04, and so forth and so on, each model looking different than the last one. If they all looked like Arnie, they wouldn't be very good infiltration units, as the resistance would figure it out and spot them all easy.

Yes, most people aren't aware of it but the Terminator is actually a horror movie (with some action elements in it).
If you want to react to its amazing sequel (Terminator 2 judgment day) I would suggest the "extented edition" ;)

True! That first kill with him punching through the guy is like a Jason Vorhees kill, and the slow reviving and getting back up is like Michael Myers and Jason as well. Also, once all the flesh melts off and it can only walk during that last sequence, man that's frightening!

I highly recommend watching the extended version of Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991) with the definitive ending. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that version and adds context that was originally taken out, anyone that says otherwise is pushing an agenda.
Fun Fact: The crew had "You can't scare me, I work for James Cameron." t-shirts made.
Casting Notes Fact: O.J. Simpson was considered for the Terminator, but the producers feared he was "too nice" to be taken seriously as a cold-blooded killer. Ironic.
Director Cameo Fact: Near the beginning of the movie, when Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) receives a message on her answering machine breaking her date, the voice on the machine is James Cameron's.
Make-Up Shenanigans Fact: One afternoon during a break in filming, Arnold Schwarzenegger went into a restaurant in downtown L.A. to get some lunch and realized all too late that he was still in Terminator make-up with a missing eye, exposed jawbone and burned flesh.
Gun Enthusiast Fact: Arnold Schwarzenegger worked with guns every day for a month to prepare for the role. The first two weeks of filming he practiced weapons stripping and reassembly blindfolded until the motions were automatic, like a machine. He spent hours at the shooting range and practiced with different weapons without blinking or looking at them when reloading or cocking. He also had to be ambidextrous. He practiced different moves up to 50 times. He wound up garnering a compliment in Soldier Of Fortune magazine for his realistic handling of the guns on camera (whereas the magazine usually lampoons movies for their inaccurate depictions of weapons use).

@@jessebatres6895 Heh, sorry for chuckling, but I want you to remember something. My generation (Gen-X) grew up thinking this kind of thing was going to happen during our lifetimes. That we would live in a post-apocalyptic world. We had a LOT of movies that covered the subject, plus with the Cold War going on and the "nukes that could drop any minute", we learned to prepare for it. While we don't "wish" for it, we know that we can "handle it" if we survive. I know that you have training (and thank you for your service), but many younger people do not, and don't believe something like that could happen, or worse, think that video games like the Fallout series has properly prepared them. You should know, "Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst."
It truly is frightening to think about this happening, and you're right about a lot of people my age not being prepared if hell broke loose. There would be a lot of panicking and impulsion and limited rational thinking. And yeah that's actually one of the phrases I live by, "Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst". I also have this one, which gets me refocused and on track "There's a solution to every problem".
This is definitely a Sci-Fi Slasher. James Cameron took inspiration from John Carpenters Halloween taking the template of Michael Myers for The Terminator.
Nice! Dude I was getting Michael Myers vibes when the terminator would get up slowly each time it was "presumably killed". That slow walk and him then starting to sprint had me thinking "Oh hell no!" lol

That's awesome! One thing I wonder about is, why they (the machines) would make the Terminator look so massive and muscular because it would be easier to spot them. @@jessebatres6895 Cameron's concept initially was for a deliberately ordinary looking human. In fact, Lance Henriksen(the detective who worked with Lt Trexler) was his casting choice until he had lunch with Arnold. Arnold convinced him that it should be big, burly men.

@@jessebatres6895 Exactly. No wonder it has been said that even if T2 is an excellent sequel, and an amazing sci-fi action movie, this original one is more like a horror movie. The relentless, nameless stranger who is constantly on your track wherever you try to hide, and in the beginning you don't even have a clue why he's after you, let alone who.. sorry, WHAT it is! The idea that it won't help you even if you'd manage to loose him.. he'll still find you. It might take weeks, or months, maybe years even, but rest assured, one day he'll get you. A truly chilling thought!

Can you imagine Sarah Connor AND Ripley. Ill be back. This was the first time. So its really a love story with scifi and horror elements. She said yhe "loved a lifetime's worth." On the photo, Reese said he always wondered what Sarah was thinking. In that moment she was thinking about him.
Yep, we were allowed to be more friendly in the 80s. And you could find someone attractive without being deemed a "creep" or "weird". I miss the 80s, it was fun and more playful back then.

I can't believe how well the love story worked here! I've rewatched that scene where Kyle tells Sarah his feelings multiple times over the last couple of days. Amazing!
@@jessebatres6895 to me the really heartaching moment is after they make love that when sarah is being playful with reese that its the only part where he smiles and laughs, right before the dog barking warning him the terminator has found them wipes the smile off his face.

The Future War scenes are what us known as "forced perspective" where small models are placed close to the camera to give an illusion of size.
The sequel is amazing but T3 - T6 suck though T4 has nice graphics, with a decent story it could have been great.
The Skynet story is very similar to "Colossus The Forbin Project" (1970) a film which was way ahead of its time.
That's so amazing! I recently watched the Star Wars films and saw that the originals did something like that as well.

The scene where Arnold Schwarzenegger punches the car window out he actually did that on that scene, James Cameron got a camera an told Arnold to put on his outfit an walk across the street an punch out the car window an then they went to the next scene

Right now I say it's scarier for me. I'll have different videos where I do rankings and I think this is a topic that I'll have to cover, so my feelings may change after I have a chance to reevaluate the different films.
Something that is just so chilling is how the Terminator has no emotion. It doesn't wince or scream in pain. It doesn't look at you with anger or hostility. There's just a stone cold face doing all of these horrific things and it maintains this face. Whereas these traits exists in Aliens and the Predator (which I want to revisit the Predator since it's been such a long time since I've watched it).
I'm glad you pointed out the cabin scene because that's the one that frightened me the most. We never even see what took place, just the aftermath but we can tell it was BRUTAL!!
It's a scifi horror like the first Alien movie. The sequels lean more on action. I used to prefer Aliens and T2 to the originals, but they can't really beat the first movies for atmosphere. I don't think many movies can top the original Terminator for that intro graphic either.

Stan Winston created The Terminator endoskeleton for I think the first 3 or 4 Terminator movies & ALIENS 1986 creatures, the dinosaurs in I believe the first two Jurassic Park movies & both PREDATOR suits for Kevin Peter Hall an possibly some other movies an I think some of the penguin's in Tim burtons BATMAN RETURNS
