    Steel making is amazing, I worked in a steel mill many years before I left due to health issues ! The shear power & weight of this equipment is unreal ! Miss those guys, loved that job !

    Awesome. These things look like something out of a science fiction movie.

      Yes, to control this process is an art and this equipmant is old design by SMS CONCAST

    Damn! You can even hear the electric current happening in there...WOW! Sounds super hot 🔥.

      The loudest sound you could imagine. With double hearing protection it was still crazy.

      All scrap is melted to a bath. Melting down the scrap is deafening.

    The thing coming out of the ground on the right side and bending into the furnace looks like it came from the movie, “Alien”.

    at 45k amps special transformers near the plant to boost the amperage

    • @mousaalmanasif8872
      @mousaalmanasif8872 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Furnace arc transformers are directly connected to the furnace without a breaker in between they are usually:
      they are installed on the same height or even higher than the furnace not on the ground level.
      Delta primary and open delta on the secondary.
      Most of older transformers are shell type core.
      Secondary voltage are very low to 200 v it depends from one design to another and current can be up to 85 KA on the other side the primary is normal medium voltage rating of the country.
      Higher rating transformers will have built-in reactor to react as load when the furnace is off after completing melting or during refilling of the furnace.
      Also higher rating transformers will have three diverter switches on each phase of the transformer and another three diverter switches on the three phases of the shunt reactor. So total diverter switches on one transformer are 6.
      These transformer are usually in closed air-conditioning rooms and having water heat exchanger as cooling method doesn't have radiators or fans.
      This is general info about them

    How many wind mill or solar panels does it take to power 0ne furnace 😅

    • @sovietcomrade7733
      @sovietcomrade7733 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Let's say one solar panel produces 500W at peak performance. That's about what a normal panel produces. About 2x1m, 2m²
      Let's take a 5MW furnace for the sake of simplicity
      That's 5 000 000W. We would need about 10 000 solar panels for a small furnace.
      That's 20 000m², or 2 football fields covered in 100% efficient solar panels, without any power loss and 100 uptime
      Now take those numbers, and do x20 for a normal sized furnace

      How many times what? Do you mean how long you need to heat it? It depends on how much scrap is in there
