    How about that trigger reset discipline?? 😜 Kinda surprised myself. But muscle memory is muscle memory, no matter the size of the gun!

    If you have never shot one of these before, it is an experience. I would suggest for the first few rounds, only load one round at a time into the cylinder until you get used to the recoil. As you can see at 0:30, it does have a lot of barrel flip and I've seen a couple of videos where the muzzle flips back and points at the head of the shooter.

      Could never be a safer way by loading one at a time that is the most biggest handgun and more likely the most powerful handgun gun in. The world not talking long guns just a handgun

      One more thing to add. With this gun, the recoil can cause you to pull the trigger a second time.

    My first experience with a Super Redhawk .454 Casull looked about like that, hands separating, gun pointed straight up in recoil & huge fireball. But I have to say even my .54cal muzzleloader with a 450 grain conical didn't spin the metal target like that 500 did. Gotta love Kirsten's always cute & sunny disposition & positive vibe for the shooting sports.

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket ปีที่แล้ว +5

      454 in specific ammo selections runs north of 60,000 psi. It's a heap of pressure and a fast spike in impulse.

    • @bjdog42
      @bjdog42 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @lifted_above I knew that on paper before I fired one but the first round I fired illustrated that to me quite well. Sweaty hands in 90+ degree weather with the smooth wood panel GP100 grips made the first shots almost uncontrollable. Ruger going to Hogues was a good move on that gun. I honestly didn't feel that much recoil from my first shots from a S&W 500.

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@bjdog42 Yeah, it's no joke. People have to take careful consideration how they grip a handgun with these beastly rounds.

    • @bjdog42
      @bjdog42 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@exothermal.sprocket oh yeah. I was surprised the first time but still expected enough the gun didn't get away from me. But I'll still say I picked up my S&W 629 Classic & fired it one handed after the 454 & it was like the difference between a 44mag & 44special. My hand actually relaxed with the 44mag. 454's & 500's require practice & conditioning. I'm happy with my 45colt with plus p loads now.

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bjdog42 Within 100 yards there's not much the .45 Colt +p can't deal with, including big furry quadrupeds. 300 gr doing 1100 fps is plenty for very deep penetration. I guess the consideration for .454 and .460 is being able to deliver similar power at extended range, due to the ugly air drag most handgun calibers experience. Velocity falls off relatively quickly.

    My friend bought one of the first ones S&W made. The instructions advised to use a shooting glove. I didn't. The recoil was straight back, it felt like getting kicked in the heel of my hand by a steel toed boot. I shot a few more rounds with a shooting glove and that was enough for me. The ammo was some hot 400 grain stuff.

    when you hit the left-most target the left side of the rack system came off the ground. Transference of kinetic energy from the bullet to the swinging target to the rack through the attachment and it still lifted it. That is scary amazing. Be interested in seeing you shoot that at distance with your above-average eyesight!

    If you want to feel the heat, shoot the 460 S&W with 5" barrel. I shoot both the 4", 500 and the 5" 460 and for some reason, the 460 is a completely different sensation and you feel the heat (as in radiated thermal energy and not recoil) more from the 460.

    I've got the .460 XVR and it really is a blast to shoot. The multi-caliber option was the deciding factor for my purchase, and for it being my first wheelgun, I must admit it left quite a good impression.

      I bought my 460 xvr because it is 45 caliber and I have put thousands of rounds through it. It is fun to shoot steel plates from 50-150 yards. Since I reload and cast my own, most have been light and mid loads. My ears can't take that noise anymore, even doubled up and the concussion is like being smacked in the nose with a magazine. The fit, finish, and single action trigger is awesome and the grips fit my medium size hands perfectly. It was the first revolver I bought for myself but I had shot some my dad has and my grandfather had. My second revolver was a Smith M&P 340 scandium frame 357.....quite a contrast between the two!

    • @CGT80
      @CGT80 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Gerald-do9yg Yep, I am not crazy enough to put full power 357 loads through it and carry it with 38+P and it is the 14 ounce stainless cylinder version, not the 12 ounce scandium cylinder. 38+p is not bad but as little as 20 rounds will leave a slight tenderness in your hands. The 357 had better sights and less weight along with the ability to use any weight full power 357 so that is why I chose it over a 38 spl. People who have fired full power loads say it is like someone smacking your palm with a baseball bat. The 500 magnum beats the hands more than the 460 and it sounds like the scandium 357 is even worse than any X Frame. 8 3/8" is the shortest X Frame I have fired. The 14" model was cool, that I shot once or twice, but I don't recall whether it was a 460 or 500 but just that those two at the shooting sports fair were what got the itch stuck in my head for S&W revolvers and the X frame. Cheers!
