Hey there folks try this. Listen to Mateusz play this and then listen to Augusin Hadelich play the same piece on the violin and then listen to Mateusz again. You will be even more impressed than before. Most people would never compare the violin and the guitar but with these two men you can. Absolutely amazing.
Stunning. This is very possibly the most beautiful tone I’ve ever heard someone achieve on classical guitar. Why have I not heard of Mr. Kowalski until now??
I have his album. It's terrific but the beautiful tone you're hearing is how he's playing the 2007 Fritz Ober guitar. His albums use a different guitar.
A lot of other interpretations I've seen of this piece have felt choppy and almost staccato-like. This feels more true to the violin version, exquisitely played!
I agree. I think it's because Mateusz masterfully counterpoints forte with soft pianissimo. I can't stop listening to it. I downloaded the album on Roon.
Once when I was a kid, I watched a seluloid recording of John Williams playing this repertoire in a church in Spain. And now listening to this melody again, delivered in such precision and beautiful dynamics, it melts my heart ♥ awesome work!
I never knew a guitar could sound this beautiful. With supplication to Djivan Gasparyan, there was one point in this performance where it was so seductive I felt like the guitar is the most beautiful sounding instrument I ever heard. Obviously, a big bow to Bach, Fritz Ober, and Mateusz Kowalski. I just downloaded Mateusz's albums on Roon. I'm stunned... but there's something about the warm amber sound of this 2007 Fritz Ober guitar that's truly special.
He rivals with the best luthenists! The arrangement by Frank Koonce is very good indeed, and his book is wonderfully written and fille with historical notes. Never take this out of your repertoire Mateusz, this piece will be very good for you in the future.
Exquisitely ephemeral, the guitarist really motoring along with his superb technique and the guitar itself adds in to the timeless composition.
Wonderful! Boosted basses in arpeggios give a fresh sound to this piece. But maybe slow down just a very bit? Some passages sound hastily. I seemed to me.
This guy gonna be a renowned name in classical guitar very soon I feel
TheBobsteg I loled
He is great, ijust jumped on his videos and I am just admiring him
If he isn’t already, he should be.
Love how “crisp and clean” the notes sound. I literally sang along with the bass notes at 2:45.
Simply amazing!
In the USA here, we would say that was hitting the ball out of the park. Beautiful.

Gotta hear it on the organ also: Sinfonia, Contata no. 29.

His legato is marvelous. So much harder than it seems.
I love his style. He seems to be so relaxed, especially with his right hand. It's like he was born for this.
Fantastic, precise, great dynamics. You’ve done justice to Bach.

Bach is ever-present, always relevant. Well played!
I love the tempo. Fluency and precision. Tonality of guitar is wonderful. Great performance.
Amazing colouring performance of 1006! That's what guitar is about
The sustain on those lower strings (!)... just unbelievable tone. Incredible.
This guy...he is just the best. I can't believe how good he makes everything sound!
What a virtuoso performance!!! Thank you!
Just wow!

His face looks like he entered into a meditative state and has transcended all the physical pains in his fingers.
He doesn't sound like a robot! Nice.
