  • #Okinawa Honto is the largest island in Okinawa Prefecture. #Naha is its capital city, but there's a lot more to this island than the big city. I wanted to get out of the city and do a little exploring on #Motobu peninsula, a hilly and beautiful part of the island. It definitely was not what I expected. Let's check it out.
Thanks for watching! Cheers, Nick :)

Hi! Watching your video of my Island home. Loved watching you walk around Motobu. The seawall you showed was facing the East China Sea. The seawall does not protect against tsunami but typhoons. The Shisha or lion dogs do protect against evil spirits. The male lion dog has his mouth open and the female has her mouth closed. Happy you got the chance to explore my home!❤

My dad (and consequently my family) was stationed on Okinawa from 1957-1959, before it actually became part of Japan. I was 10 when we left, so this trip brings back 'some' memories. Thank you.

I hope one day soon Okinawa will resume its original name, Liu Chiu or Ryukyu, it's an independent kingdom in its own right 👍

In Japan street sirenes sometimes plays music to mark time of day, say 6pm to mark the beginning of evening. As in west churches would ring bells to mark noon and call to mass, same thing

The music you heard was a "end-of-day" tune played in many parts of Japan - was it 5pm? It serves two purposes - to let children know to return home, and to check the local megaphones for disaster prevention.
When you said 65, you can add "ban" to make things clearer. If you say "65 ban bus" it's Bus No. 65.

It gets about as much rain as hilo and even has the black algae stained concrete but no lifted tacoma's in sight. But we do have a place up in motobu that models itself after cafe 100

I’ll be visiting Okinawa next week. Your video was very informative. Those clouds out in the ocean looks like a cold front coming in. Hopefully when I get there it warms up a little. It would be around 72* degrees by the middle of January in Naha. Taco rice at Charlie’s Tacos and A&W Hamburgers are some of the places I would like to go to. Have you been to any of those places?

The American village is there to cater to the American service people. American people open businesses in Okinawa to attract Americans.

Not to mention all the tourists that come to Okinawa and visit AV, besides the American population that’s a stationed here. It’s a tourist trap first and foremost.
