    One of the sexiest cars of the 90's.

    I owned a bright red 1994 Probe GT 5 speed manual, awesome car. It handled amazingly well, and was so light! Perfect canyon carver, and a great, smooth power band. It was quick for its time, I beat some stock Prelude SIs and Integra GS-Rs and was neck and neck with a VW Corrado G60 (which was also an awesome car!). 0 to 60 was low 7s and low 15s in the 1/4m, same as the other 'sport compact' cars at the time. The 24v V6 was ahead of it's time, it sounded awesome. I did have some reliability issues with it, but overall it was a great car.
    You NEVER see them anymore, what happened to all of them?? I haven't seen a clean stock Probe GT in at least 20 years.
    I sold it for a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T - the Eclipse GS-T was much, much faster than the Probe GT, but the Probe GT handled leagues better. That Eclipse was FAST for its time, much quicker than its competition, easily dispatching Preludes, Integra Type Rs, etc. It was faster than the 94 to 98 Mustang GT as well. However, it never came close to the Probe GT as far as handling. I still think the Probe GT is on of the best handling FWD cars on the planet.

      I had a black 5 speed 93 GT from 2001-2007. I dubbed it The Money Pit because the last few years I had it, it was one expensive repair after another after another. Especially the brakes, all I did was replace frozen calipers and rusted lines. It did handle well though.

      Hope you still have it, they are so rare now in 2020. Good luck.

    Essentially, the 1993 through 1997 Ford Probes and Mazda MX-6's are the same car and they also share the mechanicals with the Mazda 626. Because the Probe is essentially unloved outside of the Probe/MX-6 community they can be bought for low prices. When the Gen2 V6 Probes came out, Sport Compact Car Magazine predicted it would be "the next big thing". The underestimated the choke hold that Honda and the 240sx have on that market segment.
    All that said, they are good. I really like my '95 GT.

    I miss my Silver 94 GT with a 5 speed. It also has no rear spoiler and no rear wiper. it was so clean looking. Bought it used in 99 and it was the first fun car I ever had that wasn't a hand-me-down that needed a lot of work. it just ran. drive it and change the oil. get tires every so often. fun as hell. learned how to slide around cul-de-sacs with the parking brake in it. Good times!

    I had a 94 Ford Probe GT back in the day, 5 speed, I loved that thing. I miss that car I wish I could find another one in good shape.

      They're damn near impossible to find nowadays, I also had a 94 Probe GT 5 speed and miss it as well. If I could find a clean stock one, I'd buy it in a heartbeat just due to nostalgia.

      They have become exceedingly rare to find, there are two right now on Ebay, but there's only two days left on one, and six days one the other. the six day one is non-running as of now, the two-day does run.

    I have two, a 96 SE, auto... and a 95 GT, auto... I love them both. The SE, which has now been replaced by the GT, has been the best car I have ever owned. 194,000 plus, and still getting 22 MPG.

    I still miss my '93 GT. 25 mpg and handled like it was on rails.

      I had. A ‘93 GT automatic that I bought from my sister and kept for 14 years. It was never real fast but handled well and was fun to drive. A dependable daily, too. The hatch had tons of room in the back. I put an external tranny cooler on the return line and changed the fluid regularly; it helped save the small F4AT from giving me trouble. I finally sold it to my brother’s godson for $400 and bought a ‘13 Focus ST.

    It's a Japanese/American hybrid I guess one can safely say, the Probe is still cool today. Forget trends.

  • @tomlinkusa
    @tomlinkusa 11 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Yep. The '97 Corvette copied the '93 Probe GT pretty well. (check what both cars looked like in 93).
    My '93 was the most fun car I have ever owned.

    Probes are great cars, very smooth v6 and handles great. The 1st gens are not better, just easier to mod f2t to make crazy torque. 2nd gens has a way better power band and easier and safer to drive than the violent unset of torque from the f2t.

    My wife and I had a 1994 Probe with the 4 cylinder and manual transmission. It had over 280k on it when I took it in to get an alignment, and the mechanic said that I should take it off of the road, as the car was getting ready to break in half. It never failed to start, and had nothing done to it except plugs, oil, and pads. The car never missed a beat, too bad the "frame" couldn't keep up with the drive train.

    When you compared the offerings from Acura, Honda, VW, Pontiac/Mitsubishi/Plymouth.. these were a downright bargain. I recall that being said in road test magazines a lot.

    I have a 94' Ford Probe SE with the 4-banger auto and god that thing is slow. It struggles to 85 mph (no small thanks to the tall gearing) and can never chirp the tires. Amazing brakes, handling and fuel economy though!

    • @goldstandardgrooms2156
      @goldstandardgrooms2156 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      1g is better if you want ridiculous turbo lag - yes, it was faster, but it had nothing on a stock DSM turbo. The 2g Probe was much more refined, better looking, and had a better engine despite being a bit slower - with a proper launch, the 2g Probe GT could hit 60mph in 7.1s, only .2s off the 1g Probe GT. They both ran low 15s in the 1/4m.
      Plus, you can easily swap a KLZE engine (200hp) into the 2g Probe GT, and that nets 0 to 60 in 6.5s and the 1/4m in high 14s, basically the same numbers as an Integra Type R.
