Hop is fantastic because he is one of the only rivals who is self-aware enough to realize that he is just a side character in our story, and becomes depressed because of it.
There's a sad undertone to his upbeat theme. It's like he knows in the back of his mind that even after all the training and battling he endured he'll never amount to you or to his brother as a trainer. But he wants to do his best in this make-or-break battle. Though him losing to you made him realize his true path in life so at the end he still won in a way.
YEahhhh. It's like because I've always just breezed right through his team, barely even having to strategize, his music is almost asking: Are you proud of yourself? Are you happy that you've demolished this poor boy's dreams? Do you even feel the slightest bit guilty?
We all slag off Hop, but ignore the fact that, canonically, he's an incredible trainer far better than every other gym challenger. He beat all gyms and easily destroyed the random other kid who made it to finals. To us, he looks weak, but it's no wonder he has fans, cause he's super skilled in places we don't get to see.
Something to remember is that a lot of the professional battles are televised in Galar. Pokémon Battling is literally a sport; people watch and it’s a huge part of the culture. Stating outloud that you’re using Super Effective Moves is like Hop being his own little announcer and it’s really adorable

To be honest I love Hop I enjoyed that he had an actual arc and purpose in the story. Yeah a lil annoying as he started as the trainer that is always bested and wonders why for stupid reasons but at the final battle it was a legit battle and HE WAS STRONG! Since I don't like over leveling he and I went Pokemon for Pokemon in the last battle. People can say what they want about Hop but I think hes one of the best if not THE best rival we've ever had. (Also shout out to his tank of a Snorlax and his demon of a Cramorant)
also his Dubwool, I laughed at him for using it when i first played, but it was also the only thing to ever knockout one of my Pokemon, now every playthrough i spend an hour on route 1 looking for a wooloo with fluffy
Like in postgame, he defeated me, told me “I know you can do better than that! Try again!” Like dude, Hop, you just became the champion, aren’t you excited 😂
I just wish they’d let us lose to him in the other matches throughout the game before the champion cup, at least then it would give you more of a motive to try harder & feel a sense of accomplishment when you beat him later down the road

Some people might consider hop annoying but of all pokemon games I truly felt motivated beating him. No rivals done that before, either you beat them because of spite or because of their obnoxious nature, but hop here when he showed up and beat the 1st gym before me he gave me a certain vibe no other rivals given me before. And for the first time in a pokemon game I too considered him my one rival truly worthy of me. His determination made me just as determined. But then I found out how to breed post game, but im glad I had a real rival experience with non competitive pokemon with him.
Bovro in my opinion all the rivals are good at what they were designed to do. Hop is your friendly rival, Marnie is your mysterious mellow rival, and Bede is your jerkiness cocky rival.
I really LOVE this remix of Hop final battle theme. Specially the moments where the crowd is screaming "HEY ! " in rythm. In case like that, I always shout and rise my fist to join them and feel the music more intensely. The violin and organ are reflecting as well the galar atmosphere, inspired by Great Britain. With all of that, you can feel the accomplishment of Hop journey, facing for the final his friend and rival.

If you fight all your rivals in different games like Blue in Red/Blue, Brendon is Emerald/Ruby/Sapphire, and much more, theyll have the same team with just higher levels while Hop here, he is the only one who changes his entire team which keeps you anxious on which he will keep on his team or what will he remove

He isn't the strongest or most annoying, but the one that you most will like cuz that's the 1st time (1ST TIME) that pokémon makes character development on a rival CORRECTLY, and he music bops really just hear this part 3:12, you really feel a flasback on this remix dude, nice job
While the battles against Hop were undoutably very tedious, I think we can all agree that he's one of the best rival characters in the Pokemon series just for the fact that he realizes that he's not unbeatable or superior to the player even getting depressed about it as a result. Hop realizes that he'll never be as gifted as the player or as strong as Leon but he eventually comes to terms with it and realizes that Leon, the player, and all his friends and family are ok with that. Don't get me wrong, on my first few playthroughs of the game I was quick to try and find a way to get around Hop and his constant lectures and triumphant declarations but when I finished the game I came to realize that I actually missed battling Hop because he was the one trainer who I felt acknowleged his lack of power and he would never berate you for winning(Yes, For Winning) like other rivals of the past yet he still moves forward. That's a true rival for ya.

I mean, his theme wasn't my favorite during all the game but comparing Bede's final theme and Marnie's final theme this was TOTALLY the best out from those 3 final themes (and maybe including the 2nd gym leader theme) even if it's sometimes kinda easy the game puts you in a very epic surrounding. If it had more challenge on it and his final pokémon could gigamax (any starter) it would be a lot more better.

I don’t understand.
I don't care if people hate PSW/PSH they all should agree that Hop is basically the best rival. He isn't the strongest or most annoying, but the one that you most will like cuz that's the 1st time (1ST TIME) that pokémon makes character development on a rival CORRECTLY, and he music bops really just hear this part 3:12, you really feel a flasback on this remix dude, nice job
While the battles against Hop were undoutably very tedious, I think we can all agree that he's one of the best rival characters in the Pokemon series just for the fact that he realizes that he's not unbeatable or superior to the player even getting depressed about it as a result. Hop realizes that he'll never be as gifted as the player or as strong as Leon but he eventually comes to terms with it and realizes that Leon, the player, and all his friends and family are ok with that. Don't get me wrong, on my first few playthroughs of the game I was quick to try and find a way to get around Hop and his constant lectures and triumphant declarations but when I finished the game I came to realize that I actually missed battling Hop because he was the one trainer who I felt acknowleged his lack of power and he would never berate you for winning(Yes, For Winning) like other rivals of the past yet he still moves forward. That's a true rival for ya.

i felt so bad for hop the entire game, always in the shadow of a greater person
I mean, his theme wasn't my favorite during all the game but comparing Bede's final theme and Marnie's final theme this was TOTALLY the best out from those 3 final themes (and maybe including the 2nd gym leader theme) even if it's sometimes kinda easy the game puts you in a very epic surrounding. If it had more challenge on it and his final pokémon could gigamax (any starter) it would be a lot more better.
