Guess what, we’re gonna change that! I’ll listen to yours and stick it in a playlist if you do the same to mine! Mines “hotline to my heart” it’s an 80s Synthrock song!
My mate took your advice about jumping out of a plane for his new song. He did it yesterday, but I'm getting worried 'cos he's not answering his phone.
This is really great advice. The issue for me is that it has nothing to do with the music. Is this really the future we want? Where mediocre artists that are super good at marketing get attention whilst amazing inspired artists who are bad at marketing or rather focused on making amazing music receive little or no attention? To be clear mr Keyes is on point with the advice and it’s not his fault this is the state of the industry, it’s just that I don’t see how truly inspired art that takes lots of time can get anywhere these days when you have to spend so much time marketing and making content.
I release four singles and all were a mess due to technical difficulties, now they are all getting fixed and have to go back to the begining, but, the silver lining was that the data needed to give me a second chance to re release em, the analytics and numbers show what songs were hitting and others I can push off and work on a lil more. Soft push was a good plan for me , as I watched you a year ago and was like hes write I know I got all these songs in my head but their not on paper I need to start writing now and record when I get to the point I got a years worth of releases I honestly thought oh I got 10 song I was so wrong, over the last year wrote 32 songs plus and now im ready to record this year and last year been performing at as many places locally as possible and next year will be ready to do a tour locally. The confidence of knowing I got that much to release is so much of the weight gone from moving forward. Learning to dedicate time was key. For me it was pick a slow day and make it my music day DND no calls or visitors just me and my music and all activities around it are on Tuesday and Friday if it was open. Im amazed at what I acheived in One year but indeed your youtubes were invaluable in the common sense aspect of gaming the industry to find my people and not waste my money. Learning to master was my missing peice of the pie knowing how to use a leased beat as well. Which now I feel like a pro after much effort. LOL... I highly reccomend Damian Keyes to and Independent artist and personally thank him for all his relevant up to date content to all my friends and/or family who know how far I come in the last year. So hard to get feedback from friends and family, when I turned it over to pros they were no holds barred on letting me know what was wrong cause they were not after listening to my before and after it was like oh cause when ya done it in your heard a million times and into the mic, what it sounds like and what you want it to sound like are always different and that part is crucial in learning.
You should create a video for artist having issues with Spotify playlist curators asking for money. Spotify will ban you for paying for playlist placement. I have so many issues of curators trying to charge a price for a spot and I always have to message them and say no to cover my music. What can artist do to work around this for better outcomes?
Legit told me self I’m gunna do exactly that this year, I’ve got some bangers and they went under the radar this year there getting the attention they deserve 😆
See, this is where I differ fundamentally. It is all about the music for me and as soon as I would start to promote my personality, it would all become meaningless and hollow for me.
I think there are public for both, either the ones that look for identity through the artist, and the others that only resonate with the melodies. Today, I personally like to follow music, but can't deny I started following the artist in my teens no matter how ugly the music sounded.
Now regarding the socials is not your fault but theirs no matter how good you are at engaging they always put a stop to not make you famous for free. Yes, there are the lucky ones but just to show everybody the old saying "if He could I also can", but it's a trap to make you pay for their ads specially on tiktok.
aw man I think this is just a shift in perspective needed. Your music, your artistry overall IS your personality, it comes from your personality. You're an artist because you're special. Not in an arrogant way like you're better, but if you're really an artist it means you're a different breed of person, you explore & interpret the world uniquely & have the talent to internalize & then translate that for others who aren't able. If you've been doing this a long enough time you might've had an experience where someone who isnt in music at all was impressed by something you thought was regular or even bad. because we forget most people dont have these abilities or see the world as we can. dont do no gimmicky shit, do it how YOU do, that's the whole point.
I love making Music but am not really the social media type. I see it as a means to an end bc I spent so much to get where I am now I just want My Music to pay for itself.
even easier seo your song lyrics 2. Email the list of who works at high-traffic companies (grocery stores, bars, etc) and ask them /educate them on how to add your song to the store play list.
I'm going to try to practice this stuff. What I've been seeing is that our content is hit and miss. Like it has the attention on TikTok but not as much on Facebook. And the Spotify numbers have been dropping a lot since our new singles release nearly tripled the monthly listeners.
Got you - it’s a tough one because I usually see inconsistencies over time, sometimes a platform can be your friend and sometimes it just isn’t and you just need to keep pushing through!
can you make a vid on how to make your band seem interesting even when you know we are a set of boring bastards we feel the musics good and gigs go well but we are clueless on what to shoot for video
Hey Damian thanks for your info. Question... I have some songs I split 50/50 with an artist that are currently published thru distrokid. Im the producer, hes the rapper. Can I release an instrumental album with only my music without getting flagged for copyright infringement?
Can we have content reviews? I think it would be really helpful for artists to actually see what other people are doing and hear from you what are good and bad things about them!
Kind of like how Calgary Barbell has form check videos where you can send your lifting video to him and he'll check your form and give tips on how to refine their technique.
Don't give up, you are always only one song or one piece of content away from something great happening. Keep optimising and keep going! I'm here to help 🙂🙂
@DamianKeyes thanks for your giving motivation. I've asked about editorial team acceptance duration from a lot of emerging artists and finally got answers from "l.dre" & "Ellie duke". they told me that they've consistently released their songs for 3& even 4 years and finally got some of editorial playlists after tough attempts. ellie also told me: try to stay on algorithm with consistently releasing ☺️🙏
Hi Damo I am singer/songwriter getting ready to release a song that I believe has potential to go viral. It's the 1st time ever I have been in a studio there's a whole magical story just around the recording and how it came about.but I have been following your strategies since recording in October 2023. not sure if you respond to these but I would love to chat one on one. Captain Ron Cheatwood Thanks for all your advise
30-40 is just the step before 300-400. Right now the first steps are: 1. Building on socials as that has free discovery and proof which provides opportunities. 2. Feed the data in Spotify by working hard to get plays from shows, friends, small playlists, sorting your Spotify profiles etc 3. Look after people every day and they will come back and multiply 😊 Keep working on improving the processes and marketing every day and week. You got this! I’m here for it 😊😊
the algorithm is being too specific, was just contemplating about my flopped single release yesterday and this is the first thing I see on youtube 😂
I relate, I dropped something on Tuesday to almost zero people😭😂
Hard relate lmao

old songs are always new to new people so there’s no such thing as a flopped song because 6 months down the line it can catch traction
@@stestetsonmusic ah so true! I was def being dramatic/hyperbolic, thank you for this!

Mr Damian, I have to thank you for being one of the few marketeers that doesn't tell artists to think of content before the music 🙏
