    Marine's confusion is understandable, because English is one of the only languages where words can be spelled differently yet sound the same. Though not as confused as some would be, because IIRC Japanese can also do that with kanji.

    • @mickyj0101
      @mickyj0101 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, Japanese doesn't have many sounds, so to get enough words, they have to repeat them often.
      For example, Kami means God, Paper, and Hair. All of these have different kanji, so are written differently, but pronounced the same (or similar).
      The thing is, as with English, it's usually easy to tell from context which meaning was meant, and the language often uses pitch accent to distinguish between the different meanings of the word, like what English does with different stress patterns.
      An English example, if anyone's interested, is the word "present".
      It can have stress on either the first or second syllable, and the meaning changes depending on which, though there are 2 meanings when the stress is first anyway.

      @oro88 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In Polish we have for example może and morze - one means maybe, second means sea, both are read in exact same way. It's common in languages, it's called homophones.
