Oh wow, didn't know of Sacco before, his artwork is so powerful, so haunting, so incredible... I learn SO much from Chris Hedges' interviews...

I recognize Sacco's books are hauntingly powerful, and I do share every single word he says in this most remarkable conversation with Chris. Alas, I've never been sensitive at all to his graphic art -- personally more attracted by the early Brad Holland b&w production, or by Jean 'Moebius' Giraud's comics. (A sheer matter of aesthetic preferences, though).

Harris and MSM still talk about mass rapes that there is no evidence whatsoever of and not a word spoken about the fact that the IOF themselves, killed many Israelis that day.

I've just gone into my boxes of books and pulled out my copy of Footnotes in Gaza. I've carried it with me from 2010 to several different places I've lived. I don't keep all the books I buy. The cartoon format somehow makes the hideous reality more real.Thank you both.

I hugely hugely recommend Chris and Joe's book mentioned "days of destruction days of revolt". Essential reading even now.

History is replete with examples of our ancestors violently resisting monarchies, feudalism, communism, fascism etc etc just dozens and dozens of examples.
Jewish people see their own struggles as expressing their humanity, but they can’t extend this same humanity to those who they subjugate and abuse. Which is perfectly in line with history.

Isn't there anyone else who understood October 7th as an act of rebellion by an oppressed people?
The parallel is the Indigenous people in the Americas fighting back against the colonial invasion.
I would never characterize that resistance as terrorist or unjustified.
I believe that there is a difference between oppressor violence and liberation resistance.

in spite of his lines are very clear but calm indeed. there is no emotion, because of that it is rather truly powerful. not only his lines but his voice i hear. i could not move front of the screen of my laptop for a while, untuil i started to type the comment. i feel chill, some how more than when i watch the reality of the videos with the bursting tears. --it happened--,--it could be happened again--,the message is unignorable.

I watched this excellent interview😢 twice. Joe Sacco's drawings are a visoral representation of the past, present and a foreboding reminder of what can continue. Chris, as always, bringing his experience and truth educating all of us in real time. I was introduced to Edward Said in the eighties whille taking a Peace Studies course at McMaster University in Canada. The focus was in The Other which was the foundation of Said's book, Orientalism, which should be required reading starting in high school. From there i started doing my own research in to Palistine and the Nakba. When October 7th happened my first and only thought was, they (the Israelies) are going to massacre them (the Palestinians).

    I love Joe Sacco ‘s work .
    He was a unique
“ voice in the wilderness “ when he first published the Palestine
    series in the 1990’s .
Much appreciation for both his keen eye for visual detail and moral compass .
Thank you for giving him a platform to reach an even wider audience , which he deserves .
Chris Hedges .. though .. if one took a drink every time he uses the words
    “ genocide - hegemon - oligarch - corrupt - fascist
    Moral bankruptcy “…
I would be passed out by the end of every one of his one hour shows

    For Joe Sacco,
    A Poem: IRON CLICK
I am terrified, America. Of the iron click of your human contact. And after this-
the winding-sheet of your selfless ideal love. A boundless love -
    like a poison gas.
This poem was written by D.H. Lawrence in 1923. Winding-sheets is what they called body-bags 100 years ago.

Excellent interview. I am so glad something like this is getting out. I have felt the the Israelis are doing genocide for some time.I wonder if the Holocaust in Germany has somehow given the Israelis permission to do all of the genocide they want ever since the partition, and by promoting the history of the holocaust is a method for maintaining, in the world view, the privilege of continuing their genocide.
