    As a cellist, it's hard for me to say anything negative about Maisky (even less about Martha). I grew up with his recording of Arpeggione from the 80's (or 90's, I don't remember). Already in that recording, the tempo fluctuations were notorious.
    Perhaps this is not the best performance of Maisky and Argerich, the rubati and tempo changes are even more exaggerated and Maisky's intonation is not the best, however, things have to be put in context. Considering how difficult the Arpeggione sonata is, that Maisky goes out to play it from memory and at his age, it is truly remarkable.
    Having said that, I think this performance is brilliant. 👍👍

      Thank you for your observations. Only someone that plays the cello can notice this tempo variations. It's always good to get comments that contribute something from someone that know what she/he is talking about. Once more thank you for bringing thus up.

    • @singsnig
      @singsnig 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I noticed the tempo fluctuations (not a cellist). I found them funny and thought - isn't this a bit too much? But then the quality of their play and their listening goes beyond those irritations and it's just wonderful.

    • @keithramsell9955
      @keithramsell9955 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Almost all interpretations have the WEIRDEST idea of "Allegro Moderato" and I too find the tempo fluctuations far too excessive, sometimes by as much as half or double speed.

    Correct me if I am wrong. I just feel Mischa Maisky doesn't play as well as he was when he was younger. I just felt nervous when I am listening to his playing, feeling afraid that he may make some unwanted sound. How do you feel about his performance?

    • @classicalmusicreplay
      @classicalmusicreplay 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Perhaps he want to improvise a little bit from the origin piece. Mischa Maisky love to bring lots variation to his piece that he played. In my opinion. As for me to say iam not much care for the difference. Sometimes other variation and interpretation can still be beautiful.

      je ne ressens pas la plénitude du son de ce violoncelle, qui me semble parfois faux( qqs Commas) et pas en possession de tous ses moyens.
      il y manque de l'espace, de la rondeur, de l'ampleur.En bref, je suis déçue, d'autant plus triste que cette sonate ET Matha Argerich sont magnifiques ✨😭🌟

      @@griottembf2405 Je suppose qu'il veut le rendre un peu différent de l'original et l'a improvisé. mais de mon point de vue c'est quand même beau. mais bien sûr nous avons tous des avis différents. et oui il y a peu d'erreurs mais nous sommes humains. et nous faisons toujours des erreurs. juste mon humble avis.

      Normal il avait 68 ans, on peut tous espérer oser l'arpeggione a cet âge:) Ces petits accros font partie de la condition humaine, plus jeune il était un immense virtuose mais la il ne peut plus, il cherche quand même et fait de très belles choses je trouve cela touchant et suis capable de passer outre les imperfections techniques

    what is THIS? this is Schubert? I don;t think so. Maisky is more erratic than Argerich. Extravagant,,,,, compare with Rostropovitch/Britten.

      Careful! I was once listening to a "Bach Busker" in Leicester Square. He bravely had a go at the Bach Chaconne but half-way through his memory failed. I hummed him the next phrase and he foolishly offered me his violin. I carried on through to the end and then collected over £100 for him!@@montesmarcelo5749

    • @raphaelwalter9288

      @@montesmarcelo5749Die Kritik von Paul Jones ist durchaus nachvollziehbar, wenn nicht sogar naheliegend. Ein Werk für die individuelle Subjektivität zu instrumentalisieren ohne alles Streben in das Erforschen der Intention des Komponisten investiert zu haben entspricht nicht meinem ethischen Verständnis.
      Dass MM nicht alles probiert hat, um im Sinne das Komponisten zu spielen, ist natürlich eine Unterstellung meinerseits, aber mein Eindruck von dieser Interpretation hat ja auch seine Ursachen. Und übrigens: Kritik setzt nicht voraus, dass der Kritiker es "besser" kann! MM hat die extremen technischen Herausforderungen dieses Werkes, welches nicht für Cello geschrieben ist, einigermaßen gut gemeistert, obwohl er sicher selbst weiß, dass da, vor allem für ihn, der doch in vielen Interpretationen bewiesen hat, wie gut er spielen kann, noch ein bisschen Luft nach oben ist.
