I frankly don't really care for overly sexual designs, but I'm all for developers having their creative vision uncompromised as well as for players being able to customize their experience, so seeing so game journos cry about anything that can be remotely seen as objectifying in a video game of all things is insane to me, especially when there's such a bias depending on *who* is being "objectified".

Mass Effect Legendary Edition came out a couple years ago, and Bioware redid a lot of the scenes, and one of the more controversial ones were scenes that focused on Miranda's butt in a conversation talking about how she had been genetically altered as an embryo to be perfect and how that has affected her self-esteem because she is smart, will live longer, has a great deal of power with biotics and feels like she hasn't earned any of it. The camera angle and the conversation make create a juxtaposition that showcase that yes, she is hot. Very hot. But she is more than that, but being hot is still a huge part of her even if she was designed that way.
She has great character development through Mass Effect 2 and everyone who takes the time to know her knows that that camera actually helped with the dichotomy of her development. It focuses on her sexuality while talking about it and how it affects her, (I said this twice because it's important).
The new writers at Bioware seem to think that her sexiness (the whole point of her character arc and cause of her self-esteem issues) were problematic because gamers liked looking at her and redid the camera angles in the remake of the game. It still sort of works because the conversation is the same but the impact was lessened.
And they're about to do the same thing with Silent Hill 2, like the nearly the exact same thing. :/

The IGN article where they talk about how great Bayonetta and 2B are so much better than Eve is just them hiding the fact that they are coping and seething about those two becoming popular and iconic because IGN and all the other journos when Bayonetta and Nier: Automata came out where saying the exact same things about Bayonetta and 2B that they are saying about Eve now

14:50 Arguably? Bayonetta IS more sexualized. If you play all 3 of her games, she is completely sexualized 100%. Through her mannerisms, her poses, how she summons her demons, her weapons, her concept, and her confidence in her sexuality.
I highly advise people who argue against Eve and Stellar Blade to go play Bayonetta 1, 2, and 3.
What confuses me is in cases where sequels will make characters less attractive than in the first game. Sometimes it is pulled off well, but in a lot of recent cases, it does seem almost deliberate, as if the devs are trying to correct the 'issue' of the character being attractive.
Also technically sexualized men exist too. Like Cloud… lol or even Barret with his cotdamn muscles! I mean… when people talk about, “This villain in this anime is so hot!” But me… I’m like… ok, I’m not specifically gay, but hear me out… Aizawa in his man bun….

Being a self proclaimed lech, I have always been open to sexy for both male and female. I even let my first wife buy Playgirl. While I play the games as female because they flat out look better than the men that mostly look like bears to me. I would prefer male character choices Like the sleek looking Sephiroth FFVII that could make me feel that he is me and I feel sexy and cool as hell.
Bc I’d rather play a game where either A) I can self insert with custom character, and if I’m gonna play a female I don’t mind at all. But make her B) Realistic, or HOT. Look at Horizon Zero Dawn. Elegant, slightly hot, but also crafty, intelligent, and quick rather than “perfect” and struggles. Then the sequel came… and it’s like… “why’d y’all do her dirty like that?” It wasn’t about weight. It’s how they did it. Also she’s constantly on the move running around. Why not make her more toned and muscle like?
And those statues were made to represent how gods or goddesses look like.
Which would be “As beautiful as can be” for both. The men who did the male statues weren’t even gay, but they still understood male beauty and tried to find an epitome of that.

Like even though she was the MC, she wasn’t obnoxious. At all. Like yeah, she was a strong woman, but there was men almost twice her size that did beat her around in cutscenes.

I don't think the Fable 4 protag not being pretty is a big deal. I don't think that's a body positivity thing, someone else here mentioned it but appearing ugly is something that tends to happen if your protag is going down an evil path, so that could just be it. Or they literally just liked that specific design and just rolled with it. People still be overreacting to it.

There is a reason Bernini made the "Abduction/R4pe of Persephone" statue all the way back in 1621. (Side note to that statue: Its incredible how alive he made marble look. Pluto's muscles, her hair, the squishiness of her body. And the dude was only 23 at the time!)

I just don't see how they could go to far seeing as there's yet to be a character sexier than Raiden Mei.
Anyways the thing that usually bothers me about this sort of thing is that when I see a guy character I often think like he said "man I got to hit the gym". And I want to dress him up as much as the girl characters just for different reasons. However I think a lot of games can be pretty boring with guy armor sometimes.
That's entirely due to my own tastes though I'm sure they put as much effort into girl armor. Either way I just want to just make a set of armor I'd want to wear as close to what is ideal to me. Which is why I have a hard time understanding why making an ideal girl in a game is such a bad thing. Plus if a game lets me I'm going to be changing the way my characters look a lot.
I think that a distinction between aesthetically appealing and sexually attractive needs to be made. There is a line that need not be crossed. Just my opinion.
