Technically speaking, it's not across the board to get all the content, how it worked was that each level was an upgrade of the previous, and you only spent up to $150. If you bought a lower tier and wanted to upgrade, you only paid the difference.

quick edit: The base game is $50. The premium versions give you a larger stash, and boof box. The amount that they're trying to get from PvE players is to recoup losses that never happened. The PvE players, much like myself, supported the project and bought it, then got the FREE server mods so that they don't have to worry about geared giga chads in their random raids.
Double edit: Overwatch gave overwatch2 for free to the previous owners of overwatch, I also couldn't play overwatch with my other 5 friends and gave up on it, so they could play together.

I am assuming its because BSG is a Russian ran company that has to list itself as a "Foreign Agent" by the State Duma there, and have to pay extra taxes and do what the Kremlin tells them too. there are other fucky stuff "Foreign Agent" companies have to do. like selling their company at 50% its total value if they chose to leave.

I feel like they released all those changes knowing there would be pushback. Infact i feel like they released it all so obviously controversial intentionally in order to slowly backtrack the biggest offenders and use that as a smokescreen for the rest of the changes to stick. So far theyve backtracked about half of the shafting the AoD edition owners recieved and theyre already getting away with a new more expensive edition.
