- A few weeks ago I was invited to attend Lürssen Yachts amazing Rowing Regatta event. Before the event started though, a tour was organised for the six finalists of BOAT INTERNATIONAL's Young Designer of the Year Award. In this video you can accompany me on a tour of the Lürssen facilities as well as meet the young designers and see their amazing designs!
David. You've out done yourself. What a supreme vlog showing off Lurssens ship yard and celebrating these creative minds. I was truly inspired by these young women and men designing these extremely beautiful works of art that also sail the oceans. I would live on Mantis full time with my family and only come to port for supplies. Absolutely stunning designs!! Very inspiring video Dave!! I love it!!
One of your best videos yet sir. thank you for sharing.
They certainly appear to be quite ambitious and optimistic with their designs. Thanks for the video.
one of your best episodes! keep them coming. Thanks
It's great to see the talent of these young people getting the attention it so rightly deserves. Let's hope other shipyards or production boat manufacturers are taking notice in equal measure and giving these next gen designers a chance to cut their teeth. Great video David.
Thabk you for giving us such an opportunity David, truly are a great youtuber.
That is such an interesting video! Especially the interview of the young designers because I also want to become a yacht designer. Thank you so much 😊. Keep going to make these kinds of video !
Absolutely fantastic to see what these young designers are able to come up with👌💥💥. Another great video! Thank you!
This was a refreshing and interesting video. I'm not sure how the next video relates, but I'm looking forward to it! :)
Serrate is killer! Stunning design
I really liked Tao's design the best, I love Asian architecture or is so beautiful!
I found snowflake the best
Oh to be 30 years younger, I am quite envious of the opportunities afforded the youth of today (back in the early 80's Yacht design was not on the radar, although I always wanted to be an architect), having said that it is wonderful that emerging talent is being encouraged and nurtured. Interesting that Motor sailing yachts were given as the brief, is this the way of the future?
Another very incite-full and interesting vlog
Cheers
Sails & Masts seems to be on the comeback, oddly innovative," Oasis, and Snowflake were interesting concepts
Amazing video.
Amazing designs😍 I want to build them all!
Okey give the keys and papers after you finish 😊😜
Snowflake is make by someone who knows how others want to use the vessel. Oasis (overall flow) and Manta (stern) are great also.
I love the use of photovoltaics on many of the boats and wish you to do a video on this.
what software did they use?
blender, rhino, completely different?
I love Oasis & Serrate but all are amazing
My vote goes to Snowflake, it caught my eye much more than the others.
Maltese Falcon was my favourite yacht, until I saw Black Pearl. No doubts on the 2 yachts that have influenced these young designers the most. It would be amazing if you could get to interview Capt Chris Gartner on how to sail with the DynaRig. Even better if you can do a walk through of Black Pearl!
I would love to get into this. I'm 15 and got into boats/yachts about 6 months ago. I would hope to have this opportunity once I get to college. Though that's certainly quite the feat.
WOW!Amazing talent from these young people.
My bosses are all floating around the Med as I type on rented boats and crews, making beelines from one exotic watering hole to another. We the back up crews are being invited to have a whirl in these dinghies next week with our families, very kind of them even though we know their earnings this last quarter,OUCH!
Maria das Santos - We all like little Dinghies. 🤣
Very interesting.
Lucky birds, btw.
Excellent !
Wow! Frustrating that they waste their talents on sunboats. The Explorer Yacht is where its at! And the hybrid/electric features are really needed in the Explorer model, MOST. Would REALLY LOVE to see a design contest for Explorer Yachts!! (And discussion of SPECIALISED CREW, such as medical evac, etc) Particularly for the South China Sea!
Well, after I finish my SMMA course im gonna take a deign course... however it will have to be a few years because by the time i finish the smma couse ill be in the navy for a while
Is there an age you have to be to submit a design to this competition, I’m sixteen but I wanna submit a design, can I
Clark's was clearly the superior design. Still, it's kinda sad to see all these kids eschewing traditional bow designs. These axe bows are getting pretty monotonous.
I was wondering about that... still what beautiful designs.
The concept from Oliver looks great, the winner not so much. No 2 in my book goes to the other Chinese girl.
good
A real design breakthrough would be to get rid of teak decks. Besides the obvious environmental advantages, people on board can wear any shoes they like. Spending so much time on a design, but still making every guest wear soft slippers, what a joke :-)
William Drijver that will never happen. Teak decking like you said requires particular shoe types to be walked upon. This is built in exclusivity and it’s another part of what makes yachts exclusive and thus highly coveted.
@@chuntley83 I agree. 99% of yacht owners do not care about nature, environment, or CO2 footprint, and think their yacht should be like 99% of other yachts.
I'm not sure if teak is exclusive as it's also used for a lot of garden furniture (And in a less thick version on 300,000 euro boats)
William Drijver unfortunately you are correct. For me personally, I believe ultra wealthy are going to always buy crazy huge yachts and spend fortunes on them so in my opinion the biggest breakthrough would actually be in maritime engine breakthrough technology such as minature cold fusion electrical power plants that provide power to the props and on board energy demand. This would reduce the ridiculous amount of Diesel that these crafts require while also making owning a yacht much less taboo since I think more people would own yachts if traditional diesel generators and engines were no longer required. Also new laminating companies have perfected fake teal which feels the same and looks the same but is not as wasteful.
@@chuntley83 Or perhaps hydrogen powered yachts? Provided the hydrogen is produced using for instance nuclear powerplants. Clean and reliable energy source.
There are excellent alternatives to teak decks, if only yacht owners would order them.....decks by Esthec for instance look terrific imo!
Your channel is called yachts for sale, not privately educated posh kids with rich parents, just saying
