You are correct, I have not made that journey yet. And most likely I wont, Just costs me too much to get there to make a video. But thank you for sharing your experience.
Thanks for the summary video of the Wisconsin State Parks. Another great place with lakeside sites and the best biking riding is in the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest. A person can bike from Mercer to St. Germain on bike trails and stop for ice cream in Boulder Junction or the Corner Store west of Sayner. The bike trail runs right by these NHAL campgrounds: North Trout, South Trout, Firefly, Crystal, Musky, and Plum Lake. It is really special to bike alongside Trout Lake (the largest lake in Vilas County) for about 1 1/2 miles. Keep up the good work. Maybe I will run into you again at another State Park.
I’m from Missouri and have been wanting to go to Wisconsin for the first time, thank you for this video! I now have multiple great options to choose from
Biking is safest and user friendly at Northern Highland. I have reserved and camped at Newport State Park many time. They have 16 sites which are all walk-in. Trees are not thick but some sites are better than others for stars. The beach is the best place at that park to see stars. The camping is year around as trails are friendly to XC skiers and snowshoes. Rock Island is perfect for stars but only has a few months of service by ferry during the summer.
At some point last year you mentioned that you were running out of state parks to visit. Have visited or thought about visiting some the campgrounds within the National Forests throughout WI? I stayed at 2 last year and drove through a few others and really enjoyed them. Most are first come first serve sites. I went to Spectacle Lake on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and the it was 90% empty and I scored the best site there (#7).
Awesome video! I reference your channel when I'm trying to find information or trying to see what the parks look like. Can't wait to watch more of your previous content
Great video. Lots of good info. However, you may want to add a correction. I just watched your video from my campsite at Newport State Park in Door County. They have several hike in camping sites. Most or all are on the water or very close to the water. It’s awesome here.
You are the second person this past month to let me know. Apparently, i have not been using the reservation system properl. My searches showed no sites. I have to activly look for walk in sites. Ill make a trip up in the future and take a look at them I will also include that exclusive search result in a future video about using wisconsin.goingtocamp.com
@SconnyWandering I've heard that too. We weren't sure, but the locals were saying Brew-nay, therefore we assumed that was correct. Notwithstanding, it was spelled wrong. No biggie.
Newport has hike in camping.
Also no mention of Rock Island? Great stargazing & the definition of remote.

Such a wealth of information!! I really appreciated the stargazing category!
Glad you find it helpfull
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
You are more than welcome

I have the maps sitting on my desk all marked up. It's on the list for the summer
Thank you so much for this contribution. Have been doing research on the area, but this sounds great.
We’ve been making these trips with our rooftop tent and inflatable SUPs. Absolutely LOVE extended weekends in Wisconsin!
I stayed at Big Lake in the NHAL State Forest and got a lakeside site (well, up a hill from the lake) -- not on the trail but a short ride to it.

Thanks for the tenter perspective
@@SconnyWandering yup, some of my fam does tents and some do RVs-some do cottages-so, On Wisconsin!
Just to clarify, Newport State Park definitely does have camping, they are all walk in but well worth it due to the dark skies. Very nice remote sites
I assume they are first come, first serve since they are not on the reservation system
@@SconnyWandering they are in the system you just have to change it to backpack under campsite type
Well ya learn something new every day. 16 sites. I may have to sneek out there this fall and check those out.
@@SconnyWandering site 15 is awesome

I have the maps on the table under my laptop right now.
Yes, I use National Forest campgrounds intermittently with Upper MI and WI parks. All are so budget friendly.
Great video, thanks! Looking forward to the national forest campgrounds.
I have one of devils garden at Arches and one of Fruita campground in Captol Reef
Get what you can, they all book up so fast
Great video. Thank you so much! I am going to look at Straight Lake for this summer now because of your video.
Let us know if sites are available. After you book of course
Have visited several of these but am adding the remainder to the MUST DO list. Thank you so much! (Sub’d)
Thanks for the sub

Wildcat Mt and the nearby Kickapoo Valley Reserve are in the process of getting Dark Sky certified
It deserves it
wyalusing park has great hiking trails
It sure does
It's Brunet (Brew-nay) Island, not Burnet.
I always fear messing up a local pronunciation. but Google tells me it's neither of ours. broo·net
@SconnyWandering I've heard that too. We weren't sure, but the locals were saying Brew-nay, therefore we assumed that was correct. Notwithstanding, it was spelled wrong. No biggie.
Wyalusing has great stargazing. They also have a little observatory. One of my favorite state parks!
And that observatory is away from the lights that blanket the campground
