I have just used my Gen 6 to load ammo for the first time it is a great little machine, also upgraded to a Lyman all American 8 press and the new hand primer and a new .308 die set
I am most impressed with the latest dies from Lyman also have new 6mm Rem and 38/357 die sets they are some of the best die sets I have used, I am a big fan of the old PA dies
been using them since the 1970's

I have had one for a number of years now and it has never missed a beat for me. I am totally sold on this unit. I weigh my loads on a scale after the Gen6 dispenses them and found it to be very accurate. One thing though, after you empty the powder out of the powder dispenser, make sure you return the drain switch to the closed position. It makes quite a mess if you done. Don’t ask me how I know. Overall, it is a really great dispensor!

I have had my Gen 6 for nearly a year now. I love the size and form of it. Due to limited space I store mine in its box and inside the anti static bag it comes in. The in built speaker is annoying at times and a volume control would be good addition. I also like the fact they give you a spare set of bearings also. This was an upgrade from me from my Hornady lock n load bench scale

I would have liked you to present the table as you have with other powder measures/dispensers of ten throws with two types of powders. The table helps us compare the accuracy between powder measures to help us make purchasing decisions.

For the last six months I’ve really been enjoying your videos!
I know you’ve been using “Varget” For reloading frequently, A friend of mine for more than 40 years named Tim has been a NRA master reloader for 20+ years, in the last week we had a conversation about “Varget”. Tim said he doesn’t care for Varget because it has nitro in it and nitro is very corrosive to barrels. Our conversation ended there about Varget since I didn’t know enough to comment.
I sure appreciate your comments about Varget, nitro and the fact on barrels.
    Thank you!

Great review guys! I was deciding between an electronic and old school drop measure. I went with a Redding 3BR with both meters, about the same price range ($250ish). I think for loading blocks where you can run the block under the measure the old school is faster. Depending on the powder the Redding is very accurate. Plus you don't have to mentally keep track of which was the last case you filled, you're just moving down the line. (pistol cases) Tall rifle cases may not be able to do that. If I could have both I would definitely buy the Gen6.

  • @D70340
    @D70340 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I`ve used several different electronic scales the last few years, and i always end up going back to my Redding drop powder measure`s every time and getting rid of the electronic ones. Because of how accurate the Redding is, and i don`t waste all this time waiting for an electronic powder measure to measure each of my loads. Gadgetry, everybody wants the latest flavor. I`m over it.

I took a chance on the gen 6 and I have had it for 2 years now and cant reload without it. The only powder I have not metered is flake (dont use it). It meters very well and is very consistent. I used to use a secondary scale to verify charge weights but due the accuracy it simply isnt needed. After it calibrates I just run 3 - 4 “ test” loads thru it to prime it up and its dead on after that. I might get 1 in every 10 loads off by a 10th of grain. If that happens I just dump the powder back in the hopper (that will hold up to a 1lb of powder) and throw another charge. Its very user friendly and simple to operate. If you use the auto charge function it will throw charges faster than you can keep up. The numbers on the display are big and easy to read. Clean up is a snap and powder dump door is the BOMB!

@@trialsdungeons8737 Yes you can use it for pistols. I reload for several pistol calibers as well. Its not any more difficult or any more work than reloading for rifles. I like mine. But with ball powders it would throw it all over. Found a 3D printed pan that was taller on an auction site. Also ball powders would work their way into the o ring seals. The aluminum tube will seize. Did some research online. Take a q-tip and wipe inside of o ring with some Mobile one synthetic high mileage oil. Works perfectly now.

I wish you would have done the accuracy check with the Varget. I’ve found the powder weight with both Varget and AR-Comp is 0.1 grains heavy >90% of the time. I also have issues with the touch screen not being responsive and if the charge was light I would trickle and the scale was not showing a change in weight until it was too much. I do like the small form factor since I only have a small bench setup. Thanks for the great video.

I have a gen5. In the beginning, i was pleased with it. After some months it was getting increasingly harder to give the 1/10 of grains correct. And then it started drifting. After complaing i was told to clean the gen 5 due to static problems.
No change. I then bought a rcbs instead. Much more consistent. I then tested both side by side. I could not trust the gen5, still inkonsistent, so now i only use the rcbs. The gen5 is collecting dust.

What people forgett is the season changes! Here, in northen sweden, we generaly have below zero C from nov to march-april. That makes the air dry, causing alot more static charge.
Its impossible to get rid off, as 0% humidity makes it sensitve. Even the plastic plattern on my Intellidropper affects it, and the cover is unusable and the plastic spoons that come with lee kits affect it to.
But during summer it works perfectly.
Same goes for digital scales, they are to sensitive. The new gen 3 hornady scale work better as the plattern is metalic, unlike the gen 2.

A volume control on the beep would be nice, but I neutered mine in about 5 minutes. Remove the bottom cover and the screws for the keypad. Under the lower left of the keypad is the speaker, it's a hollow cylinder about the diameter of a dime. Take some hot glue and shoot it in there. You will end up with a very quiet squeak, rather than a loud beep.

I had the Gen 2. Thought I really had something until I got into long range shooting and started checking drops with a beam scale. I bought a V3 autotrickler and never looked back. Don't get me wrong, for short range pistol/plinking the lyman is fine but if you're looking for consistency you're going to either have to stick with hand trickle/beam scale or open the wallet and spend a bit more for the RCBS or autotrickler.

if your load lives on the 0.02 grain difference, you are loading way to sensitive ammution! A stable load works with up to 0.5 grains difference.
Load weight is just one small part, and for extreme accuracy i can even argue its not the most importaint. Necktension, barrel temperature etc give you way more flyers.
If you need 0.1 accuracy to shoot 0.5 moa or less, you need to re-evaluate your load development. Or how do you handle temperature? Hot barrels, cold barrels etc.

I bought my Lyman just over two years ago for $250. It worked fairly well until it didn’t.
One day with no warning it just quit working & wouldn’t zero the scale anymore rendering it useless. It gave readings all over the map. Scale drift was (4) full grains in a minuet.
I contacted Lyman support; they gave me some things to try. It was no use. She never worked again.
Bottom line… I got maybe 1000 rifle cases charged in the two years of use for $250.
Save your money, buy something better. You don’t have to spend $1000 on a scale. But there are numerous other options out there. I went with the Hornady Auto Charge Pro for $340. We’ll see how that works.

Wouldn't it be good if it weighed the case, maybe zeroing it out, then dumped a set amount into the case instead of a pan. That way you knew for sure the amount in the case and saves a step. Eliminates some grains not making from pan into case.

I'm on a mission to preach the neutered beeper, because I think it's the only thing really wrong with the G6. The beeper is in the machine under the keypad. Inject some hot glue in the beeper and you will kill 90% of the volume.

I won't buy a Lyman product that could need warranty replacement, because their after-sale support is so widely criticized. Look up something like a scale & read the most critical reviews at retail sites, and you'll see what I mean. When Lyman products are good, they're good, but if you got a lemon that made it through their QC process, you're screwed.

I understand you are trying to show the newest and hopefully best products on the market for reloaders but is this just too much technology for a simple task. I have had a Redding powder measure, Ohaus 1010 scale, and RCBS powder trickler since 1970 and they work fine. At a cost of $300 dollars plus I can better spend that money on components.

I can tell you right out of the gate you will never be able to clean this unit...EVER. It’s easy to use and seems accurate but any and every smokeless powder will melt to inside workings. I had 2 of them and don’t use them anymore.

Touch screen? But it's not a touch screen is it? No it's ta capacitive keyboard which is the abomination of keyboards. It lacks the tactile feedback and click confirmation of physical keyboard yet it's locked in place and offers no additional configurability of touchscreen.

And may I add that the keyboard and the selected backlight color reminds me of the cheapest OEM Chinese electronics there is. Blue hue background is the de-facto worst choise to make.
