    Excellent advice in regards to hard wiring. Recently had an electrical fire with a lithium battery in a boat (not mine) 150km offshore due to a cigarette plug on an oven. Not a pleasant experience.

    Great video, cheers.
    Great units these. I have the small one in my truck. reheat a lot of home cooked meals I freeze in it. I use the large full size tray from Somerville Metalworks, it adds a little time to cooking/reheating time, but easier to clean up. Used foil to start with but just another thing to buy and carry around. If you do get the trays, add the trivet. Helps make pies and sausage rolls not soggy on the bottom. I've done frozen to beautifully browned in under 2 hours.
    Plug issue I found was more to do with movement of the plug, and poor contact. I now have mine permanently plugged into the sleeper plug in my truck, and doesn't even warm up, but when I used it in the ciggy plug on the dash, it got fairly warm after just 30 minutes, and thats with the small oven.

      Cheers bud. I have a couple of trays that fit in it almost perfectly. If you check out part 1 of our Horrocks video series I did a cobb Loaf dip in it and it was sensational. The camp devour it in minutes lol yeah I burnt out two sockets in the car and nearly started a fire so I thought bugger that.

    The smaller travel buddy does have a timer aswell - it doesn't have the adjustable thermostat....
    If you cant hardwire you can still use the supplied plug, just take the red cap off and use it in a merit socket 👍

    buy the road chef it’s better built, internal wiring is heat protected, comes standard with an insulated door and standard with an Anderson plug, still made with all parts from China as are travel buddies just not assembled in Victoria.

    • @perth4b4adventures
      @perth4b4adventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of Australian made products fall into that category coz it’s cheaper to import parts than buy from Australia and in some instances the parts aren’t available anywhere else but China. I work for a company that does the same. At the end of the day I’d rather support an Australian company and I haven’t had any issues with my Travel Buddy apart from the plug. At the end of the day it’s a personal preference I guess 👍

    • @FroggysGoldProspecting
      @FroggysGoldProspecting 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@perth4b4adventures do your research on both the people making these ovens, they were both working together at one stage then split, both use the same parts but one has gone to the lengths of insulating the internal wiring, the travel buddy manufacturer needs to lift their game and be better than the Chinese assembled road chef which is a better unit, I’ll support Aussie made when they have a go and actually make something good, the travel buddy is not anywhere as good as road chef, no Anderson plug, no insulated door, no insulated internal wiring, inferior heat insulation, exact same electrical parts used only less care taken.

      Yeah, the Road Chef and KickAss's one are both made in China, but both have a latch to prevent the door suddenly opening midway through a cook. I wish the Travel Buddy had the latch from factory, and not require the buyer to make the change.

      ford811 all good bud, since hard wiring I haven’t had a problem. Apparently it’s to do with the ciggy plug moving around in the socket. Hard wired the wiring doesn’t even get warm 👍

    I can’t say I’m overly impressed with mine...yes it’s good for a pie or to reheat something... but for cooking, it leaves a lot to be desired...especially if I compare it to the 900w air fryer I just bought...the air fryer will cook finger food from frozen solid to crunchy & brown in 15 mins...

      Do you have a 12v air fryer?

    • @pauladams1156
      @pauladams1156 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      blueycarlton no, 240v. Run through a 1500/3000w inverter & 200ah lithium. & Trina honey 330w panels.

    • @pauladams1156
      @pauladams1156 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      blueycarlton I have upgraded the oven to a 15v 15A step up converter, so it is now considerably better...as it receives around 15.8v constantly...
      Because of my lithium capacity, I don’t ever need to start the car to run it & can run it easily for over 24hrs...if I choose to.
