      @realmenrealstyle have been wearing this shoe for a while it makes a lot of sounds when am walking, I was wondering if that's how leather sole sounds or the sole is made from another material I have 2 pairs one is a Chelsea boot the other is like an oxford(the sole feels like wood) both are suede material

    I say this everywhere, just buy second hand/outlet goods. I've bought a dozen dress pants 100% wool for 5-10$ because they load up on older models, I've had pairs from 2005 even. But what does the model year matter to a classic design? It doesn't.

    • @rayjulian8044
      @rayjulian8044 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Stick to the classics and combine accordingly. Do have a couple of good suits, two to three pairs of good quality dress shoes, and the number one asset for men: high end cologne-Creed, I love NY, Tom Ford,

      Its not possible for all though, I am very tall so it is impossible for me to find 2nd hand items. The only item I ever found I could use second hand was a royal navy coat which I had to adjust arm length to

      @ardentdfender4116 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is a true statement by Aggnog. One the reasons in my opinion is because of something i've done myself also and that is donating good quality cloth to the thrift shop or goodwill. Very good quality clothing that no longer fits me properly because i've gained weight or gotten older and it just no longer fits. As well because i've updated my wardrobe i've gotten rid of other stuff donating them to the thrift shop. Clothing that are wool pants and high quality material shirt that stay well over many years and would be good for someone else. I just don't throw away good quality cloths or shoes if well kept. People that like good quality cloths usually take care of them. But if you can no longer make use of them, its best donated to a local thrift shop and that's something i've frequently done. As a matter of fact, i'm in the process of pruning my closet since over christmas i've bought bought quite a bit of new clothing i liked from Paul Fredricks that was on drastically knocked down sale, many pants i need to get custom hemmed and need to make room in my closet. But do visit your local thrift shop, you might be surprised at the good quality stuff you may find.

      Ardent Dfender just this morning I purchased a Paul Fredrick tie from Goodwill. I’m not familiar with the name/brand, but Italian silk tie made in USA. $3.

    • @ardentdfender4116
      @ardentdfender4116 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Anders Tietz That’s a great bargain. Their Clothing are of very good quality. All their Ties are all Silk and of good patterns. I have many myself. Paul Fredericks clothing are expensive and especially anything new and in current season stuff. But if you plan and check regularly on their site ( they also have a catalog that updates monthly) you can pick up good stuff at a drastically reduced price before the clearance inventory is all gone or gone in the size you wanted. I’ve been buying Paul Fredericks clothing for at least 20 years now and they have good stuff. Try to get the clearance deals if you ever purchase from their site for the lower price stuff if cost is an huge issue. But no matter what, you get good quality.

    Just a FYI for those who may not know this already. Designer brands are available for cheaper, more affordable prices at outlet stores like Burlington (aka Burlington Coat Factory), TJ Maxx, Ross, etc. for the very reasons you're pointing out in this video. The clothing that wasn't stitched properly during production makes it to these outlet stores for a much cheaper rate. Like 80% and 90% off. This can be a good way to get a few designer items in your wardrobe for mad cheap. This can be especially good for college students in need of some business and business casual pieces at affordable prices.

    Thumbnail is misleading. You can have hidden sole stitching which is the most luxury finish you can get. Check Gaziano and Girling or Edward Green for examples. Lots of medium to upper tier brands use this method.

    • @xioracky
      @xioracky 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True but the one shown in the image is supposed to not have any stitching instead,it shows shoes that have soles glued on.

    • @Tyler-hf4uc
      @Tyler-hf4uc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a little exaggerated. It's not the most luxury.
      The other thing is that the opposite is true. A lot of cheaper shoes will add a fake stitch both on the outside and bottom

    • @FinalPattern11
      @FinalPattern11 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Tyler Mittan Cheap shoes certainly do have glued soles, but my point is that it’s misleading viewers into believing that all soles with no sign of stitching is misleading. It’s not a definite sign of bad quality, far from it. My point said nothing about fake stitching, why are you including this?

    Pattern matching is the "surgeon cuff" of shirts. Manufacturers discovered guys were using this to determine quality and with current machine technology, it now means nothing. You can find pattern matching on shirts and suits with functional cuffs, stacked/kissing buttons at H&M.

    Split yoke is a bit tricky; it's a mainstay for most quality RTW English shirts (Turnbull & Asser, Hilditch & Key, etc) but there are many, many excellent RTW Italian shirt makers--Marol, Barba, Borrelli, Finnamore, etc which do not.

    Lol ... I am a sock snob. I love silly socks and I’m very particular about my socks. And I appreciate your info. One other pro tip ... if you’re buying socks with design and pattern (and why wouldn’t you) make sure to check the stitching on the interior. Check for messy threads and thread nests. Those don’t allow stretch and are highly uncomfortable. And stretch the pattern to see if it retains the print when stretched. I’ve had to pass on some cute socks that didn’t qualify. Thanks for all your good content for us moms to boys! Trying to raise them stylish.

    - Shoes that claim they're made with leather but in fact are made with synthetic leather. Synthetic leather is not genuine leather! One is manufactured while the other is organic.
    - Imitation welts is another thing to spot. It may look nice but it doesn't attach the upper to the outsole. It's purely decorative.

    • @mcrazza
      @mcrazza 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Starscream91 The video is about identifying markers of quality and cheapness. Leather is a quality material because it’s superior to synthetic material. For example it’s more durable; it’s flexible and moulds to your feet over time for a more comfortable fit; it’s both porous which allows for breathing and it’s absorbent; and a leather shoe or boot is more easily repairable than synthetic leather footwear. The only advantages of synthetic leather is that it’s cheaper to manufacture, hence synthetic footwear is cheaper than leather.
      As for welts, a quality shoe or boot that has welt stitching must have a genuine welt construction. Like leather versus synthetic, welt-constructed footwear are expensive. This is because it anchors the upper to the outsole for a more solid, reliable and lasting bond versus plain old glue. And it allows for far easier repair. To get costs down manufacturers use an all glue construction with cheap and less adhesive glue. That means over time the sole will detach itself from the upper, either at the heel or front. Imitation welts is just a strip of pre-stitched leather that’s glued around the top edge of the outsole purely for decorative purposes. It doesn’t do anything else. You may think you’re getting a welt constructed boot or shoe, but you’re not.

    I'd take the chain stitching at the bottom of the denim instead of the single stitch that you mention. A lot of denim that is $200 or more use chain stitching as it harkens back to when denim used to be made, but also, chain stitching is much more secure of a stitching compared to single stitching.

    Stitching on a heel is good, but the highest end dress shoes have hidden stitches. In the best made shoes, the heel leather is split around the perimeter, the heel is then stitched to the welt, before the split leather perimeter is glued back together to sandwich and hide the stitches. Allen Edmonds, for instance, has visible stitches, but you won't see heel stitches in Edward Greens.

    So what’s interesting is I have gotten a ton of conflicting feedback on Jos A Bank.
    Most of the indicators mentioned are indeed used by Bank, but I hear a lot of people saying it’s not good quality.
    All my menswear is Jos A Bank or thrift store, so I don’t have much to compare it to, though I find it comfortable.
    I started working there almost a year ago and I try to gauge the true quality of what I’m selling people.

    I've had some very long lasting shoes that were glued rather then stitched. Quality and reliability of glues are much better today then in the past. You can't just toss out blanket statements. Times change and products improve. Keep an open mind.

  • @dylanschang6386
    @dylanschang6386 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    No visible stitch in the bottom of a shoe could actually be sign of the highest quality, the blind stitch, where the welt stitch is covered by the sole’s leather. But if you have this in a shoe, you will know because you’ll be paying extra for it. Meermin does this as a relatively low price point

    You are advocating removing tack stitching on the lapel. What if the Jacket comes with tack stitching on the pockets? If you can't drive, you're not putting keys or anything else (except her phone, hopefully!) in your pocket , do you think this should be left alone?

    A comment on the sole, look inside to see if it's Blake stitched, you'll see stitches in the inner sole bed.
    Also, lack of stitches on the underside doesn't indicate glued automatically. High quality shoes will typically have the sole spilt, the Goodyear welting stitched and then the leather flattened and finished leaving no visible stitching.

    Does not always mean that shoes which do not show their stitching on the base are cheap. On really high end ready made shoes, and on virtually all bespoke shoes the soles with have blind channel stitching, which means that about half an inch in from the edge of the shoe the leather will have been lifted, this is than glued back in position after the sole is sewn to the welt. This means that the stitching cannot be seen as it is underneath the leather of the sole.

    Suit and or sports coats vents - I only disagree as I am a huge fan of classic and enduring styles i.e. Brooks Brothers. They can be a bit slow to update the look but if fitted right, you will feel it and see the admiration of everyone in the room. The classic single vent and double vents are keys to look for. I do agree with off names and off the rack styles, the center vent can be misleading "wanta bees" that will get you noticed in the wrong way and when looking for a coat at a mid price point, double vents perform and look great - those that matter notice! With a properly tailored semi custom or full custom suite, center vents hold the shoulder and waist lines much better - front and back. I truly enjoying your advise and channel - thanks, someone needs to help the men be Men in the world!

    How can someone that is not experienced, know the difference between a foam and padded cotton shoulder pad, before buying a jacket (since inside most jackets they are lined with a lining) ? Ty
