I've had 3 c60 gearboxes do it, always been either 2nd or 3rd on mine. On taking them apart the syncros are totally worn out and not biting the gear to bring the shaft up to speed.
It does seem pretty common on these, that why i am reluctant to just buy another box, thinking some stronger synchros from monkey wrench or similar and a full decent rebuild
@@Pistolspete82 Its not that hard if you get some pulling tools etc. The only thing is when you price up all new bearings and other bits it adds up very quickly. Easy £700 in parts alone. Very luckily a few years ago I bought a brand new unused Corolla C64 on ebay for about £350. Since then I've ditched the 2zz just to get away from all the worn out old engines and gearboxes from that era.
I'm running mt90 after running other 90w for years in my 04 mazda3 mt. It's doing better. But apparently the newer oils have garbage in them that deteriorate the syncros that mt-90 doesn't.
Cheers, thats what i'm hoping, to see it through till i can get all the bits together, my LSD is pretty worn too, so i want to get that done at the same time.. build a nice strong box that may be able to take boost in the future

I've done most thinks on a car now except pull a trans apart, so I may give it a go.. we shall see :)

It won't fix the trans but it should prevent damage alot better
