    Well if you are looking for a challenge this is the song for you. The first track on his 1973 album Piano Man which is only his second album released. In reality the song is not super complicated, however, the tempo is crazy fast which makes it much more difficult. The middle section of the accompaniment that I used is not an exact representation of what Billy is playing here. The piano is not able to be heard over the banjo in particular so I listened to some other live performances and made a variation that is even more difficult 😊 I wanted it to be something that mimicked the banjo part somewhat and would sound great if you were playing without a band. Everything else is as I heard it especially that great piano solo by Billy. Please don't let this song intimidate you to the point you don't give it a shot, taking it slow and being patient you can definitely play this at least close to tempo the they are here.

    Due to copyright infringement issues and video blocking I am unable to create TH-cam videos for many of the suggestions that I receive in the comments section. I do, however, create videos and MIDI files just like on my channel for clients who would like a specific piano part transcribed for any video or audio file!

    Fantastic! I've always love this song but it´s the first time that I can see how difficult it's to play for all! Thanks for your time to share and see what´s happening on the piano. Billy is the best

      I'm glad you enjoyed it. This was one of those that I didn't realize how difficult it would be until I got into it myself. I loved this era in Billy Joel history.

    Your ear is incredible, man.
    It guess this doesn't matter since he has a full band but it's a shame he doesn't throw some stride in there with his left hand.

    • @chrisbarkerpiano
      @chrisbarkerpiano  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much! I have never thought of that but it definitely would sound really cool with a pared-down band. It would also make this so much more difficult too! Thanks for watching and stay tuned

    • @Clodhopping

      I guess a stride left hand would be too hard at this speed and a bit heavy in the mix? The right hand is the showy one. Plus Billy isn't a stride player and wouldn't claim to be.

      So it's a lot to explain which means I probably need to do a video for it. I'm pretty old school so I just listen to the recording and hopefully I can figure out what's going on. The better the recording the more likely I am able to recreate what's going on. I'll check out this song because I'm not familiar with it. Thanks for watching!
