Elegant 1900s Art Nouveau Stool Restoration - Flea Market Rescue

- In this video, I restore an antique Art Nouveau stool made between the 1900s and 1920s. I bought this forgotten stool from a Flea Market in Poland and worked on it with great pleasure for about one week.
The piano stool was in a state of disrepair when I got it. The old finish was almost gone; it was cracked, with a few spots of rotten wood and the top leather full of dirt and stains.
The restoration process was challenging but rewarding. I learned much about furniture and leather restoration and am very proud of the finished product.
If you want to learn more about antique piano stools or furniture restoration, I encourage you to watch this video.
More about the restoration/transformation process:
As mentioned above, I bought this piano stool from a vast flea market for about $25.
The process of restoring the Art Nouveau stool went well. I used various types of stains, made my shellac, and cleaned and restored the old leather. This part was probably the most challenging because it was the first time I had to fix such an old lather, but I think I managed pretty well.
The crack was filled with epoxy, and the wood was treated with a rosewood stain before staining.
The rotten wooden part was replaced with the same type of wood and carved and sanded nicely until it got the stool leg's shape.
I cleaned the rusted parts with a 2000-watt laser. It was satisfactory, and everything went quickly. If you want to learn more about this machine, www.sfxlyxc.com/?aff=2198
After removing the rust, the parts were painted and nickel-plated.
I hope I have caught everything, but if you have any questions, you can comment, and I'll get back to you!
Cheers! Johnny.

Hi folks! When I saw this beautiful stool in the rain at the flea market and, my heart said to take it home and give it a second chance! I hope you agree with my decision and you will enjoy the video! Thank you for all your support! Johnny
Your work is wonderful. I hope to find treasures some day!
Thanks for recognizing quality and saving it.
Beautiful work, I wish you would narrate, I bet you have fascinating stories and lots of wisdom to share. But I know narrating is not everyone's cup of tea.
Amazing 😮❤
What brand of leather wax did you use?
Im glad you rescued the stool out of the rain and that you restored it. I’m not sure it’s art nouveau. Usually art nouveau has a lot of decoration, characterized by intricate designs and flowing curves. This stool has no intricate decoration. It’s beautiful. Thank you for saving it.
It looks like a piano stool. You really brought it back to life. It's beautifully restored. Great work.👍
I'm glad you enjoyed the restoration process and the result. That's right, it is a piano stool. Thank you for watching and for your time!
You're right, it is a piano stool.
I was predisposed to like a video about restoring wood, but I love that you restored the leather too. You didn't make it look new. You made it look like a well cared for antique, Bravo!
Thank you! 🙂
Yours is the only page that when I see a video of yours in my feed I open it and click like BEFORE watching the video 😊
Love that! Thank you!
The way things were made back, then was just amazing. And when you think of the garbage that’s manufactured today it’s astonishing that people will paint these vintage pieces of art.
The laser cleaning is very interesting. This stool is worth, to got a second Life. Great Job. 👍👍👍👍👍
I'm glad you enjoyed the laser footage. Thanks! 🙂
Beautiful object ❤ Laser is giving amazing result😮
Thank you! 🙂
Absolutely beautiful! You've restored that piano stool to a pristine condition, worthy of patina prestige.
Glad you like it!
Wow, I must say that I'm impressed. You are equally good at restoration of both metal and wood. Let me add a third one.... leather. Great job and great video as always.
It was beautiful, Johnny. Cheers!!
Thank you, Alvaro! Cheers
This stool got a second life. Now it looks really good.
I'm glad you like it! 👍
Nice job. Not the hardest restoration but I admire your dedication to the leather work. Looking forward to your next project reveal
Thank you! Yes, this is a project that almost everyone can do, and I'm trying to encourage the folks who may have a stool that is worth a try.
The leather cleaning/restoration process took me quit a lot of time. Best, Johnny
Yes, I was worried about that leather at first!
From junk to a masterpiece. Your skills are amazing.
Thank you so much!
Wow, I am always amazed at your work and finished product. Thank you for sharring.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I really appreciate your support and encouragement. It's always a pleasure to share my work with others, and I'm glad to know that you find it impressive. Your feedback means a lot to me!
I think you did really good for $25! If I saw that poor piano stool sitting out in the weather I would have rescued it, too. Old wood furniture items clean and finish up so beautiful even having been neglected for years. I could tell this stool originated in Europe by the design and leather seat insert. Very nice job giving the stool a new life! I've never seen one of those laser machines before...they really remove rust fast!
Nice work. Good thing you had a feline supervisor handy to give final approval.

I love those old piano stools. I still have one of the same era. The leather is embossed.
Me too! They are so beautiful! 🥰
I have the same, and restored it about 3 years ago. I didn't know it was that old. My parents bought it used in 1965. It actually is used as a piano chair.
Wunderbar.
Thats amazing very nice. Duration of the first world war very historical.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you found it amazing and historically significant. The First World War indeed had a profound impact on our world, and it's always fascinating to delve into its duration and the events that shaped it.
You’ve done a remarkable job! It’s gorgeous. Anyone would be proud to own this piano stool!❤❤❤
Awesome! Love that finish Mr. Rusty Shades 👏👏👏. Restored to excellent condition, ready for a second life 👍👍👍. 😎
Thank you so much for the kind words! 😊 I'm thrilled that you love the finish, and I'm really proud of how this project turned out. It's been a labor of love to restore it to excellent condition, and I'm excited to see it ready for a second life too! 😎👍 Your support means a lot!
if that stool could talk, it could tell you a story of every rear end that sat on it.
beautiful stool......should easily last another 100 years.
Hello Again, Glad I came across your videos again, absolute Love the way you work, and to see the finished product, Wow.😎
Thank you, and welcome! 🙂
A fantastic restoration. The only thing I would add is using some of the wood dust from the sanding process and adding it to the epoxy to add a more consistent look. Other than that, great job!
Thank you so much for your kind words and thoughtful suggestion! I appreciate your feedback and the idea of using wood dust in the epoxy to achieve a more consistent look is a great tip. I'll definitely consider that for future projects. Thanks again for taking the time to comment and for your support!
Many thanks!
Thank you! 🙂
A cat spun on a stool is oddly satisfying. :)
Congratulations! It's a new piece!🌷🌷
🙂
Congratulations, the restoration was beautiful and perfect!💜💜💜
Thank you so much! 🙂
I'd say that it was a project worthy of the effort. The ability to bring the leather back is really impressive, old leather can be tricky to revive.
I'm glad you think so, Denise! Indeed, leather restoration isn't the easiest thing, but with a lot of care, patience, and knowledge, it can be done! Thank you once again for watching my work! 🙂
I would have so just bought new screws . . . good on you
What a "Transformation" from a broken down piece of ready for the "trash 🗑️" to now in front of a Beautifully Restored Bar.
Sincerely Yours 🤠 Mr Severance,
"The Cake 😋 🍰🎂 🥳🎉 🎊 Man".
P.S Now all You have to do is find a "Bar " that needs to be restored.
I'll try to find a Mini-bar 😀 Hahaha
Thanks for watching and for your time Mr Severance, "The Cake Man" 🎂
Nice restoration
Thank you! Cheers!

... very nicely done - congrats! By the way: This is a piano stool for the player. Greetings from Germany from the silver fox, David 😉🦊
Thank you very much!
Beautiful restoration.
Thank you!
@@rustyshadesrestoration Thank you for sharing your work.
Just because you can't see the wood in final doesn't mean it doesn't need stain. The stain stops the wood from drying out and cracking. Apply it to every surface of the wood you can. Soak it into the screw holes. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
Thanks for the tip!
Beautiful work. The catager approves.
Thank you, Teresa!
You did a great work. That looks real good after renovation 👍👍
Thanks 👍
Amazing transformation.
Thank you! 🙂
wahooo ! very beautifull work ! this stool is awesome ! cogratulations +++
I'm happy you liked it! 😊
It was cruddy.
Now it is good for another hundred years, thanks to your fine work. It is a humble yet beautiful, honest little stool. You employed modern treatments to improve durability and service without compromising its vintage character. Very good.
Thank you!
Yeah enjoyed the video, good Restoration 👍

Man refurbished, kitty approved.
Incredible amount of different processes you went through to finish this!!!!
Ha, ha, even the cat likes it! Got a kick out of the googly eyes on the sand polisher. And that laser cleaner was pretty nifty too. Great job!
Thank you! 🙂
Beautiful job. I love what you did to save the leather!!❤
Thank you so much! 🙂
great restoration, great video
Thank you! 😀
Definitely brought this one back, I had hoped you would have dyed the leather a little bit darker, but overall very commendable project. Thanks for sharing and good luck with your channel. 😊
Thank you, Paul! I hope you will enjoy my other projects too! Best, Johnny
Cat Approved 5 stars
that came out so pretty and you did a fantastic job...love your cat too...
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your kind words. I'm glad you liked how it turned out, and my cat sends their love too! 😺
A good restoration, the stool does look amazing. The only thing I could not understand was the use of the epoxy resin, which did not form part of the original stool. A minor point I accept, but just puzzling. Good post and thank you.
Anche il gatto approva! 😍
🥰
Thanks!
All you need now is a piano to restore and you have the complete set 🤗🤗👍👍well done !
The stool is absolutely stunning! What an amazing transformation! Gorgeous job! 😊
Thanks so much! 😊
WOW!!! Beautiful restoration! That leather looks good enough to eat! 🤣
Thanks! Hahaha 😁 😆
Natural materials like wood and leather exposed at their best. Well done!👍
Great work...❤
Thank you! 🙂
Beautiful job. It looks great. I'm so glad you kept the old leather.
Thank you so much!
That was a labour of love. Beautiful restoration.
Thank you! 🙂
Well done! Great!👍
Thank you so much! 🙂
That was more complicated than it looks. Great job and looks so nice.
Thank you! 🙂
hocker - eher klavierstuhl ......
And a "cat scan" of approval to finish!
Beautiful!
Thank you 😊
Johnny, the integrity of the stool is completely intact - which is true restoration. Down to using the original screws in the reassembly. Congratulations!
Thank you so much! 🙂
I would have used an angle grinder on those welds (avoiding the filler) and replaced the leather using the back of a used leather coat from a thrift/úsed store. As usual a good job!
It looks lovely. You've made it so it looks its age, but well cared for. And your kitty seemed to enjoy going for a spin 😸
Yeah, he always enjoys that kind of fun 😄
Great job!
Thank you!
💚💚💚 looks like my piano stool at home😘💚💚💚
😍🥰
Looks like a piano stool. Great job!
That's right! Thank you! 🫡
Beautiful work. Kelped it all original and that leather looks great.
Thank you!
well done, what i like about these type vids is the lack of annoying music and the constant chatter.
Thank you! I appreciate your feedback! 🙂
I know I'm an odd person, at least in this regard, but I absolutely loved the squeaking in the beginning.
🥰
Beautiful results indeed
Thank you, June! I'm glad you like it!
That is so pretty! Just enough work to repair the damage, but not so much as to eliminate the stool's character. Nice work!
Thank you! 🙂
you should draw a smile on that yellow bowl with the eyes LOL
Beautiful Restoration!
Thanks! 🙂
Amazing find and great job!!!
Thank you! 🙂
I'm so glad you saved that little stool. You made a super job of it, although I'm surprised you simply tucked the leather seat loose into the rebate/rabbet instead of glueing the edges of the leather to the padding to make it more secure.
I'm glad you enjoyed the restoration process. There was no need to glue the leather 🙂
When you're not looking, the cat has ambitions to sharpen his claws on the leather.
