  • In this video I show and try to explain how to use several tools of TechDraw Workbench.
If you want to create 2D views with dimensions and show details with information then this video is for you.
Already I apologize for my English, but comments from other videos asked to enter voice in videos so I'm trying.
If you have any questions, I can try to clarify as soon as I can.

Thank you, MindScraper for a clear easy to follow tutorial. I appreciate your use of voice and subtitles; they make tutorials much clearer than silent ones.

Thanks for a very good tutorial - it has helped me a lot to understand this workbench, especially the part showing how to take a cut through a part.

Thank si much, you made clear some details which were a bit obscure to me. and I struggled a lot to find the answer.
    Thanks,

Thank you. For other viewers that have as little experience as me. To turn off the big dots the selection points, turn off "view frames", the button is a read circle with a line through it.

It was helpful this video and I thank you for it.
I have a problem during I try to view the final shape clicking the print preview. The final shape is deferent from the original and I loose many of the dimensions. Do I make something wrong with settings?? The same happens when I try to export to pdf or every other extension

I have been trying to learn Freecad for a month and a haft. I watched video's tried a dozen tutorials. I can't get started. Do you have any documents to follow with this video, or any video. I go 5 steps into the tutorial and can't see how to go to the next one. Thanks

Can I make these vertex dots smaller? They are way too big. It makes my views unreadable in most cases!
Can I connect annotation with an arrow somehow?

This is the third video I watched that started out with a image of technical drawing without the big dots, and ends up with one with them. It most be obvious to many people. Piotr, if you ever figured it out could you comment here.

@@dennishueber3631 I did figure it out. It goes like this: Edit->Preferences
On the left panel choose TechDraw workbench options icon, then select second option tab on the top, named TechDraw Dimensions. In the section 'Decorations' look for the Vertices Scaling parameter (or something like this, my version is translated to my native language, so I can't be sure). I changed its value to 0.9 and it works fine for me. You have to restart freecad for the changes to take effect. When you use TechDraw workbench another tip is to use Turn View Frames On/Off feature when needed. It disables and enables vertices and vieport names ("Left"/"Front"/"Top" etc.) visibility

I didn’t have the two ‘active’ tools you have when you click ‘Tech Draw’ on your ‘Start’ dropdown menu at the beginning, so my first question would be why is that?
The answer of course is because you didn’t tell me to start by going to the ‘File’ menu and clicking ‘New’.
    Well DUH!
Next question; why would I want to use the ‘Tech Draw’ workbench in the first place, rather than use the ‘Sketcher’ or the ‘Part’ menu to create my part? What is the advantage of the ‘Tech Draw’ workbench?
You concentrate on how to insert dimensions into a drawing of a part you have already made. Meanwhile the part remains static throughout. This leads me to assume that the ‘Tech Draw’ menu exists only to allow the user to see the project as a ‘technical drawing’ rather than as a 3D part?
Having worked in engineering at a basic level I know I’ll need a drawing like this if I want a professional engineer to create an injection mould for me and I would ask, is this the purpose of this tutorial? And indeed is this the purpose of the 'Tech Draw' workbench?
If so it would have been good to have had this explained in the first place because the ‘Tech Draw’ workbench isn’t really helpful to the average ‘FreeCad’ user who simply wants to create parts in order to 3D print them at home. Please clarify.
This is potentially a very good tutorial about the more professional ‘technical drawing’ aspect of engineering, but it’s not very helpful to the average domestic user who is simply making parts for 3D printing at home.
It’s very good, but please keep it in context.
    Otherwise nice one mate.

At 10:52 you can all see how there is no snaping point in the MIDDLE OF THE CIRCLE (top view) which makes TechDraw workbench totaly unusable to dimension anything with holes and is therefore completely unusable at the moment for any kind of real project. This workbench still needs to mature A LOT! In version 0.19 they will offer a tool to add 4 points to the circle, but still no point in the middle of the circle (???). So if this is not in the 0.19 it will take years (!) in order for the stable program to get this functionality...

It looks like someone used your footage. Did you give them permission? A channel called InspirationTuts CAD posted a video called 'Autocad or Freecad which is better' and they used this video.

Techdraw needs a big upgrade to be made usable. FreeCad developers need to take inspiration from Creo instead of Solidworks. Creo is a breeze...
