Thanks, Michael! It is January of 2020 and I am buying a discounted XH1! I do not shoot video, I cannot stand wimpy camera bodies with little grip, and it has all the tech I need! Sean
After being a Nikon shooter with heavy zooms, I dipped my toe in the Fuji waters with the X100S (with an added grip) and found it was the camera I enjoyed the most. After careful research I ordered the XT-2 and received it the day XH-1 was announced. I returned it and ordered XH-1. I also was able to change my strategy and bought all primes (16mm, 35mm f/2, and 90mm) looking forward to excellent picture quality AND stabilization plus a better grip. I still see a definite role for XH-1 for still photographers. The XT-3 looks wonderful but it lacks some of what I appreciate most about XH-1.
I have a gimbal, and TBH using a gimbal and a camera WITHOUT IBIS, like a canon 70D, can still be quite shakey. I find that using a gimbal and a camera with IBIS is stability heaven. My vote goes with the XH1. I would chew off my arm to own either however.
I do a lot of handheld photography in low light conditions and having the IBIS on the XH1 is a huge, massive improvement over the XT3. I have both cameras and I bought the XH1 specifically to be able to use the 16-55/2.8 in low light conditions. Without the IBIS the quality of that lens is wasted in low light. Now I'm also preferring the XH1 over the XT3 even with lenses like the 23/1.4 and the 56/1.2. The greater range the IBIS gives you in lower light is a difference like night and day. Caveat: If you want good performance from the XH1 you must get the battery grip and you must have it on Boost mode all the time. Then focusing and everything else is much, much faster, only very slightly slower than the XT3.
@@jackdanyal4329 It might not, in fact it's quite likely that it wouldn't. It may need to know what the focal length of the lens is to work correctly, and may also only activate if it gets signals from a known lens. However, I don't have any non-Fuji lenses so I can't say.
@@LUITESLIFE The focusing on the XT3 is definitely faster -- after all, it has a processor that's four times more powerful AFAIK. However, if you activate boost mode on it does also get faster on the XH1, so that the difference is a little less. Of course, the best of all worlds would be the IBIS from the XH1 in the XT3 and my guess is that that is going to be what the XH2 is going to be. But that will be out of my price range, so I'm going to be using the XT3/XH1 pair for quite a while longer... 8-)
@@LUITESLIFE There will only be an XT4 with IBIS if they can add it without adding any size or weight, which is not possible with the current technology. Also, although Fuji does listen to photographers on many subjects, their designs seem to show that they have a stubborn belief that OIS and IBIS are not really important.
Just made a switch to XH1 from XT2 and I'm very happy with this decision. You are right about the grip but I think that kinda misses the bigger point on why people chose XH1which is the IBIS. My favourite and in body 95% lens is the XF16-55 F2.8, and the IBIS truly pushes everything into new level. Also worth to mention is the feather touch shutter which despite a need of getting used to, in my opinion is far more pleasing than the "clicky" XT2
To me, the X-H1 is still compelling for anyone who has the 56 1.2 or 90 f2 because of the IBIS - not to mention the 16-55 f2.8 as well. They also balance much nicer on the X-H1 with grip compared to the X-T bodies.
@Slide Slide not sure, but Fujifilm's XF18-55 has stabilization... 16-55 is the Red Badge, weather sealed, no OIS one... their 8-16 is also Red Badge, weather sealed, and NO OIS... XF10-24 has stabilzation...
+Slide Slide I can make a guess, but that's about all I can do... it appears that those 3-4 Red Badge lenses(8-16, 16-55, 50-140, and 100-400) were targeted for use with the X-H1(sturdier build and lens mount... IBIS). It could also be to keep cost down on the Red Badge standard zoom and wide zoom offerings... ??? The 10-24 and 18-55 have stabilization, cost less, variable aperture range, and optical quality is a little lower.
Not at all, but Fujifilm mentioned they designed the X-H1's sturdier lens mount for those heavier lenses and the 16-55f2.8 is pretty heavy... maybe Fujifilm did not think OIS was a high priority within that zoom range in order to keep cost lower? I don't know, but I'll try it out and compare how it performs on both the X-H1 and XT-3 real soon...
The new sensor in xt3 have little difference to the Xh1.but ibis is really a indispensable structure for camera.no one want a blur image when he shoot things.
That's the conclusion I came to as well. As a stills shooter I'm on the verge of buying an XH1. However my XT2 is still amazing and I may just wait for the XH2.
Thanks a lot, Michael, for your thoughts. I guess, there some more advantages in X-H1 than just an IBIS for random video footage shooting. I tested IBIS with my 56mm 1.2, and it does make a big difference, reducing blurriness when shooting stills at lower shutter speeds. Moreover, a chunkier X-H1 body balances out larger lenses much better than X-Ts do. Say, a Fujinon 16-55 f/2.8 looks and feels much nicer on X-H1 rather than on X-T1/T2/T3. A buttery smooth X-H1 mechanical shutter release is also smth. special! X-H1's ergonomics (say, AE-L and AF-ON buttons) is a bit better (for my liking) than on X-T models. Anyway, the key is to create an awesome content with whatever tool the artist feels most afinity with.
Real world example with the XT2(3) and XH1 with 90mm. Shooting on low light with XT2 + 90mm at F2, 1/250 ISO 12,800. With the XH1, i was able to shoot at F2, 1/15, ISO 1,250. I think it's obvious which camera came out with the usable image... IBIS for photography is a huge advantage
Ya know...this newest Fuji release may be a tiny bit better at stills (which is 85% of my work), but at the end of the day, My XH1 still takes awesome pics. There is not enough difference to make me consider switching when the XH1 is sooo good! I will wait until they release the XH2 thanks.
Hi Michael, thanks for this video. I really enjoy your videos, especially the parkour ones! Your videos have a very practical, logical and calm perspective and sensibility that I really appreciate. I'd like to add my comments, if I may, to yours regarding reasons why one might want to get an X-H1 over an X-T3. My comments come from the perspective of a motorsports photojournalist and landscape photographer to provide some context. 1) In addition to the grip, I considerably prefer the shutter and shutter button on the X-H1 to the X-T2/X-T3; the shutter mechanism is very well-damped and there is no "breakover" to impact the functionality of the IBIS system. 2) I have come to prefer the submonitor on the top deck to the comp dial. While I really love the traditional/retro dials and controls on Fuji X-cams, on a professional shoot for corporate event back in March at the racetrack I shoot for, my exp comp dial on my X-T2 was constantly getting changed from being inadvertantly bumped from me rushing about the track. I also really prefer using the submonitor when doing studio or landscape photography and shooting in manual mode. Viewing the submonitor makes it really easy to dial in my exposure settings exactly as I need them. I also appreciate being able to see how much battery capacity I have in the camera even when it is turned off when I am in the media center and have to rush out to the track for the start of a race. 3) The camera is much more robustly built than other Fuji X-cams. This is important for a) ruggedness b)durability and c) being able to mount long, large, heavy lenses like the new 200mm f/2.0. While the X-T3 has a reinforced lens mount for this lens, the camera is still not built at the level of the X-H1 for ruggedness. 4) The back button for back-button focusing is better designed and placed better for action/sports/racing photography 5) The absolute image quality from the X-H1 is *truly superb*. It almost has a GFX50S quality. I haven't had an X-T3 yet to compare outright image quality, but from reviewing the test chart photos published yesterday at DPReview, it appears initally that the X-H1 outresolves the X-T3 very slightly, even with a slightly lower res sensor. I attribute this to the X-H1 being manufactured to tighter optical tolerances than the X-T2/X-T3, which it needed to be to able able to obtain maximal optical performance from the 200mm f/2, for which some optical tolerances are less than 0.1 micron. As a result, the X-H1 is able to extract maximal optical performance across the Fujinon XF line of lenses. Sorry for going on so long, but thought you might to hear some additional comments about the value proposition of the X-H1. Cheers and regards, Stephen
I would expect that within 6 months or so, we will see an XH2 with the same sensor and processor. I'm not sure that we will see an X-Pro3 (I have an X Pro2), but I would really like to see an X-E4! Small, light and precise.
I debated to upgrade from my xt2 to xt3 for low light photography but after the latest firmware upgrade the xt2 works pretty good in low light at even at 12500 iso. so I decided not to upgrade and instead wait for the XH2 and keep using my XH1 for my hybrid needs. You can't beat the grip on the XH1 because I couldn't work with my XT2 without the grip because it is too small in my hands and for long lenses to me is a no go. My biggest lens I use on the XT2 is my 56mm and for my 50-140 and 80mm goes to my XH1. In addition with IBIS, I can use my big heavy Nikkor lenses like my 200-500mm goes on the XH1, where the XT series will fail due to they way the grip is constructed for me.
I shoot XT30'S but way prefer the XH1 especially using the 16-55. Image quality is virtually identical. Yes AF slightly faster on the T3, T30 BUT the XH1 can produce equally good stills. Built like a tank and IBIS. The H1 can go for many years yet. Peace out x
XT-3 is high on my wish list, but for the project I'm planning I have time to await the XH-2. It will definitely feature the video specs of the XT-3 and with the IBIS I can film without a gimble. If the project comes up first, I'll get the XT-3.
Michael, you are overlooking one of the major reasons to chose the X-H1, IBIS. There's no doubt that many photographers want IBIS. The Olympus OMD EM1 would never have been as popular as it is without the terrrific in-camera stabilisation. The X-H1 also has a more robust body, which a lot of photogrraphers appreciate - even require. The grips is better by far.
I'm an amature video guy so...just bought a lightly used X-H1 w/16-55 lens, battery grip, and Manfrotto fluid head tripod for the same price as the camera body and lens new. Thank you Fuji, for putting out the x-T3 and tanking the value of a great camera! I'll take that straight to the bank ;-) Tschuss!
Its a real shame the Xt3 doesn't have stabilization for video. Its so close to perfect, just needs that and a proper flip screen. Hopefully the xt4 fixes these things, because I do want one, just cant bring myself to pull the trigger yet. I have stabilizing gear, but they can be unwieldy, I rarely get to use them.
Greetings! As a landscape and product photographer using the X-Pro2 with some stellar Fujinon optics, I am pleased with the image quality and detail rendition I am obtaining with the X-Pro2 and for example, the awesome Fujinon XF80mm f/2.8 Macro lens. That lens is the sharpest lens I've used in my 40 years of photography! That said, I was hoping that the new 26MB BSI sensor and Image Processing Engine of the X-T3 would give even more detail. I do realize that there must be "some" improvement" in image quality, however I saw one TH-cam comparison between the X-T3 and X-T2, and he concluded that there was very little improvement in terms of sharpness and detail rendition at base ISO. As I don't shoot video or high ISO, those improvements don't concern me. But I still want to see more testing/reviews of the X-T3 before I jump onboard. Thanks again, sir!
Xh1 is great for people who shoot a lot in a low shutter speed and love taking pictures at night or low light situations. And never or hardly use flash gear. Also mainly use zoom lenses for portraits, animals, insects, etc all because of the IBIS, a lot of those things can increase shake showing in the photos. With the IBIS going out in the night or zooming in, a little movement in the hand wont ruin a beautiful moment! Xt3 would be great for others who dont really shoot in low light situations or at night, zoom lenses dont really get used, uses a lot of flash gear, and a tripod most of the times due to its higher chances of shake showing up in photos.
Sorry but there is a major error in what you’re saying… XH1 is absolutely incredible when it comes to photography due to the image stabilisation. You are able to do so much more long exposure shots handheld compared to what you could ever do on the XT3
actually, for photography, I think the X-H1 is better because of IBIS. having the image stabilized allows for a slower shutter speed and thus lower ISO which leads to less grain in your pictures. my thoughts though
I'm primarily a still photography and, in addition to better ergonomics, I like the XH1 IBIS especially for the primes and the 16-55mm when a tripod is either not available or handy.
I'm using xt1 & its takes great photos! I use the xh1 at weekends, Honestly in this day and age 99% of the time it depends on who's behind the camera 💯
Why wouldn't the XH1 be better for stills? Those who like to hand hold at slower SS will certainlt be better off with the XH1, for botht eh IBIS and more solid grip. The XT3 is not the hug improvement over the XT2 people expected IMHO, there's an awful lot of over exaggerated praise flying about for it, but your own latest videos show the quality output is really no better. Seems they chucked some extra video features at it tbh. I think I'd much prefer the H1. Better built, better grip, that great IBIS - also useful for those of us who love adapting old glass
It's a very long video considering you're basically stating that the X-T3 is better camera but it doesn't have IBIS (The XH1 is also chunkier). Your photography is certainly great! Nothing new revealed here however.
Hello there, I found your comparison very useful, but I still have some doubts, that's why I want to ask you something: now I own an X-H1, but I find it heavy to my ordinary routine. Also I never use (until now at least) the video functions. So I am really considering to sell it and buy the X-T3 (I hesitate between X-T3, X-E3, and X-Pro2). What you think, is it a good choice? Loosing IBIS system stops me a little (cause I don't usually carry a tripod) but I wonder if it is really indispensable even in hard low light situations (specially for photo)). I don't know, what else I am missing if I change the X-H1 for the X-T3 (besides the 100g less)? it's worth it? dear I hope you can give me your opinion and advise soon!!! thanks
I can shoot handheld at 1/15 with no effort on my X-H1. I loved my X-T2 but I couldnt go back to not having IBIS, using flatter ergonomics or hearing that louder shutter.
I’m gonna pull the trigger. I know XT3 is absolutely mind blowing. But I need to know if X-H1 can get it done. I do car photography. Mostly hobby, journalistic style. And I need a camera that can do a little bit of everything. Cars meets, People, Race events, Drift Nights, Car meets at night. All that stuff. I want to know if the Autofocus system of the X-H1 will be capable to handle all these scenarios.
I lived with Olympus OMD-EM1 for 2,5 years, they've arguably had the most efficient IBIS in the business for a long time now. I can't remember a single situation thinking "Man, I'm so glad I have IBIS." Reason for that, is that IBIS helps only with your own shake, not subjects in motion, so IBIS benefits for stills photography is so situational. If you have to adjust shutter speed due to unpredictable subject motion, i.e sports, kids, wildlife, street, then I find IBIS can even be a liability. Video is ofcourse a completely different thing.
Clearly you misunderstood what IBIS is for. It wasn't meant to freeze subject motion. So you fault it for doing exactly what it was designed for: "helps only with your own shake" as you put it.
HueTubeR I think you need to reed my post again. I haven’t faulted the IBIS, it was a personal reflection that for my use, I haven’t found that I ”need” IBIS or that it helped me, that’s not the same as faulting it or declaring it useless.
Probably the XT3 because of the back lit sensor.......but IS is awesome for stills because all the Fuji primes don't have VRand a lot of their zooms. Using manual lenses and adapted lenses work so much better with IS...I'm used to not shooting with it with Fuji but if I think I am going to need it...I pick up my Olympus and go m4/3rds..
IBIS alone makes the XH1 better for photography too, the new sensor from what I have seen, is nowhere near as improved as many make out - They could have made the T3 the killer APSC camera for this era, but they did a Canon, they were afraid to canibalize their other cameras, and that is a fail!
Doubt that. Fuji announced the x-t1 on Jan 27, 2014, x-t2 on July 7, 2016, x-t3 Sept, 2018. Looks like a solid 18-24 months before x-t4 gets announced.
alright, you got me... Have you signed up for our iPhone XS giveaway yet?!? seriously though, it ain't likely that a new xt4 comes out in 2019, way more likely a refresh of xe-3 and xt-20. and who said anything about full frames?
Thanks Michael, this was helpful. Given the current state of DSLR gimbals, I fear my only choice is the X-H1. If Freefly made a small gimbal, I'd take the X-T3 in a heartbeat. Other gimbals - sorry, too many 1-star Amazon reviews, and I can't use stabilizers in the settings where I might have to film. As always, life gives us difficult choices.
Good discussion. I now have the XH1 but I rarely use the video function. I preordered the XT3 and must decide which one to keep because I shoot stills mostly. Should I be concerned about a "new" camera which usually needs tweaking?
i own X-H1, tempted to get the XT3, but the more i think, i dont really need XT3 tech for now. better to wait for X-H2, i think it will gonna be cheaper than XH1.
Hansen2705 I too am waiting for xh2. Currently on the Xt2. The T3 is a winner in my book but I will use the money to get a lens instead. Even for stills, there are plenty of times where IBIS would have made the shot easier. I don’t like carrying around a tripod unless I am doing low light landscape or bracketing.
@@buddyWalrus yeah man, i remember 3 months ago everybody is pretty okay with XH1, but like now, it just like an ancient camera. Me too, im thinking about getting some good lens with the money. Cheers!!!!
What you are missing on the X-T2 is the ability to manually focus (focus zoom won't work) during video capture without stopping the recording (very awkward for continuity and sync). Plus the new EVF is much more detailed for manual focus work. X-T3 will get you that. I also a huge fan of the silent mechanical shutter (which the X-T3 won't get you, along with IBIS).
I disagree with sentence that 'professional video' is doing only with gimbal, tripod, monopod... I do professional video handheld aslo without any stuff - just me and camera - so than I use x-h1 for 'professional video' with external recorder for 10 bit (but sometimes it is not necessary) So the main reason to consider buy x-t3 - is 10 bit internal - in video case
Hi Michael, Watched your video, liked the way you have presented, very honest and straightforward. I have a question to ask and would really appreciate your honest answer. I want to ditch my D750 and a 50mm f1.4, because its slow, bulky and loud for doing photography in public and gets me conscious. I have known Fujifilm to be a great Camera specially XT series, but I have some question, 1- Does XT2 / 3 not have an as good image quality as D750 ( being Full frame) 2- what Lens would you recommend for Fashion photography in smaller spaces, space is always an issue. 3- Are thee any tele-converters or adaptors to reduce fish eye effect from wider angle lenses? I would really appreciate your inputs, thanks, Ajay
Good comparison. X-T3 sounds like it would be great for me. I'm interested in how you became an X photographer, and am also interested in any videos showing the T3's sports and action tracking. If you could take it to a track or road race that would be awesome, or a football match! 🏃 ⚽️
I just got a Xh1 specifically for wedding photography and still portraits. I was considering doing a return exchange for the Xt3 but now I dont think so here are my reasons. 1. The IBIS, when it comes to portraits even wedding events a zoom lens will always be the one being used the most, the more zoom, the more chances and noticeable the shake could be showing in a picture. As always a zoom lens is preferred in portraits, with the IBIS you dont have to even worry about your photos coming out shaky. I plan on getting the 56mm (85mm equivalent) which is a prime zoom and will be using it for portraits and weddings, these lenses will be best on the xh1. Not every wedding will be somewhere out in the sunshine. Some will have their gatherings or party indoors where theres dimmed lights and no sunlight neither does it always take place in the day so sometimes at night. So that being said in darker situations you're going have to drop your shutter speed making it slower to bring more light, however a little movement a little shake from the hand can effect the photos big time when having a low shutter speed. But with the IBIS, you can drop your shutter speed and not have to worry much about a slight shake from holding the camera ruining your photos! Wedding are going to require both zoom lenses and lower shutter speeds for indoors and night. Having the IBIS and both of those things really does limit a lot of shake effect in your photos! And 2! The price! Now it is $1300 on Amazon NEW and other stores with the battery grip! I got mine brand new at my local camera store for the same deal. The Xt3 is $1500 with no battery grip, just get the Xh1 you save $200 plus 2 batteries and a grip to have nice aligned vertical portrait shots! Xt3 would be great for others who dont really shoot in low light situations or at night, zoom lenses dont really get used, use a lot of flash gear, and a tripod most of the times.
There seems to be a huge debate about the importance of IBIS for stills. It's really frustrating they didn't build OIS into the 16-55 :s I have no idea whether to go for the IBIS of the XH1 or the processor/better low light autofocus ability of the XT3 for street and travel photography for my Asia trip next month. If anyone could comment with some advise I'd be so appreciative... (I have the 16-55 2.8, the 55-140 2.8 OIS and the 16 1.4). (Video is irrelevant to be my the way:) Also - does the XT3 share the same reinforcements they made to the XH1's mount? People don't seem to have commented too much on its build quality...
I will say that when it comes to low light shooting, and when I say low light talking about Fuji, I mean just as the sun is coming down and later, IBIS makes a huge difference. I came from an A7II to a X-T2 and was pretty surprised with how poor the X-T2 was for street photography at night. A large majority of my photos had minor to extreme amounts of blur. When I used the A7II I had never experienced that kind of blur before when taking photos at night and it was extremely jarring. As many others have said, once they tried the X-H1 for night time stills, it's really really hard to want to go back to a non-IBIS body. I returned my X-T2 and continue to use my A7II. I'm now debating on either getting an A7III or waiting until the X-H2 for a new main camera and using the A7II as my backup.
Still guys here. “Downgrading” from T2 to E3. Prefer the size and form-factor. If I could stand big bodies would get the H1 for IBIS etc. Honestly not impressed with T3.
Hi PC, I will be doing videos of real estate interiors for work with a Stabilized very wide angle lens. I prefer not to use a gimble. Perplexed, I like the features of the XT3. But like IBIS of XH1.. Both camera's are excellent deals now! Question? With a stabilized lens, will the XT3 be OK for Video just being hand held? Thank you!
Do you think that the improvement in processor will compensate to some degree for the lack of IBIS. I always have problems with low light (indoor) and i am hoping that i can get some improvement. I was hoping they would include IBIS but I understand they can't (size and impact on xh-1). I have an XT-20 if this helps.
I want to get the xt3 for video work but do u know when the xh2 will be coming out coz I don’t want to get this now and regret it when the xh2 comes out
The lack of IBIS is the only reason why i wont get the xt3. I wont be able to use non IOS lens and have amazing low lights shots below 1/60. :/ If fuji added that into thr xt3 i would have bought it at $2000
Would you please do a video on continuous autofocus in video with XT-3? Like trying to film a toddler dashing around doing toddler things. I have a XT-20 and I’m not crazy about its autofocus performance. Thank you.
Pixelcatcher - Fotograf und Fotokurse in Stuttgart - sure it is. 4K 60 doesn’t make it a pro model. My iPhone shoots 4K 60. The X-T3 is Fuji’s consumer model as the kit lens is the 18-55mm f/2.8-4. The X-H1 comes bundled with the pro 16-55mm f/2.8 and has a pro body, ergonomics, etc.
Pixelcatcher - Fotograf und Fotokurse in Stuttgart specs are not always representative of professional vs consumer models. Like I said my iPhone shoots 4K 60 and it has ibis. Fuji markets their X-H1 toward the professional and the X-T3 toward the consumer. Consider the Canon EOS-1DX Mark II. The X-T3 blows the canon away in specs, so does that make the X-T3 professional? obviously not!
Come on who even takes 5 frames per second? How did people took photos 10 years ago? =) Everybody is so blinded by all technical stuff, but they rarely go out and shoot anyways
Why does Fuji not make just 1 of these two models and combine all features. Just give it the x-h1 grip. X-t2 and x-t3 grip are to small. Thais way they can make the best apsc camera and not have 2 limited ones. Very disappointing. If price is a factor then just buy the 100 series without ibis.
Personally I don’t see any reason to consider the X-H1 anymore. Yes it has IBIS, but I think it’s really janky and doesn’t look natural. I’ve filmed handheld with my X-T2 and I’ve managed to get smooth shots about 80% of the time (though having the grip and heavier lenses may help more with that). And from what I’ve read, they’ve improved the rolling shutter in the X-T3, which I think is a pretty big deal. The previous cameras had awful rolling shutter at lower frame rates.
I'm sorry but I simply don't believe you about the quality of your handheld footage unless you are only talking about twelve or fifteen seconds at a time. I have steady hands but handheld video is always bumpy unless you at least have a monopod or bracing yourself physically. Yes, in the old days, no IBIS. In the old days - at NTSC or PAL resolutions (720 x 480) and the handheld footage usually looked exactly that - bumpy. Where I agree with you is that the advantages of much lower rolling shutter cannot be overstated. I like the slow motion 4K 24fps conformed from 4K 60fps. There are a lot of creative possibilities there. Going without IBIS is tough too. Ideally a cinematographer would have both bodies. Neither are that expensive (there were some great official offers on the X-H1 this summer). If I were shooting on a full time basis these days, I'd have one of each (you need a backup body anyway, although if your post production people or your producer are counting on 4:2:2 10 bit 4K, the X-H1 would not be a suitable backup to the X-T3 that day).
uncoy I suppose it depends on the type of work you do, your needs and how steady you are with your hands. For me personally, not having IBIS and working handheld has been fine. I have an example video if you’d like to see it, though it’s on Vimeo - vimeo.com/285912294
uncoy if I were to do professional work, I’d just use a gimbal or other form of external stabilisation. I don’t think IBIS looks natural, especially from the X-H1
Antoine, thanks for sharing some real world video (I prefer Vimeo). It's a nice looking promo, great work. But as I suspected, it's just tiny bits and pieces of handheld footage, not extended shots. I found your notes about jerky X-H1 handheld footage interesting. Was that even with IBIS turned off? Why turn IBIS off? If the videographer is planning to move the camera quite a bit then IBIS (sensor stabilisation) is not going to help. IBIS helps to keep a sensor still. It's not a gimbal.
Did you already order yours? Tell us which one!
I ordered the silver version right when it went up for preorder. I'm upgrading from the xt-1 so i'm extremely excited for the x-t3
I pre-ordered a X-T3 in black.
Congrats
Hope you used my amazon link :)
It was either yours or one other TH-camr I really respect. It was about 4AM last week and honestly don't remember 😂
Thanks, Michael! It is January of 2020 and I am buying a discounted XH1! I do not shoot video, I cannot stand wimpy camera bodies with little grip, and it has all the tech I need!

Agreed.
mind commenting on what is lacking on the x-t3 (other than the obvious ergos) I have x-t3 for video and doubting if getting and h1 for stills.
I would actually argue that, even for photography, IBIS is a much bigger deal than the larger grip. But that's just my opinion.
Maybe for some of you. Yes. Not for me. I see more advantages in the iso performance of the XT3
This is my thoughts as well. Thats why there is X-H, its mainly the IBIS... Just for the Grip? Really?
This guy's talking nonsense again. Get the X-H1 only for taking stills because of the grip! What a joke.
ibis is important but i think that faster AF is even more important than IBIS for stills
@@pixelcatcherStuttgart how big these advantages? tried to see them but can't..
I have a gimbal, and TBH using a gimbal and a camera WITHOUT IBIS, like a canon 70D, can still be quite shakey. I find that using a gimbal and a camera with IBIS is stability heaven. My vote goes with the XH1. I would chew off my arm to own either however.
Nice comment, you may have swayed me more towards to xh1! If the IBIS + Gimble works well :)
The main consideration for getting the X-H1 for stills photography is the IBIS, not the camera grip.
Then focusing and everything else is much, much faster, only very slightly slower than the XT3.
hi. will IBIS work with third part manual lenses?
@@LUITESLIFE there will be X-H2. Fuji approved, that they will continue the H line of cameras.
True. The grip is great for heavier lenses if you don’t want the Batterie grip
Had both, sold the XT3 for a second XH1. I prefer bigger natural grip and ibis
Ya know...this newest Fuji release may be a tiny bit better at stills (which is 85% of my work), but at the end of the day, My XH1 still takes awesome pics. There is not enough difference to make me consider switching when the XH1 is sooo good! I will wait until they release the XH2 thanks.
Exactly my thoughts 👌
I really don’t know anything.... me personally I’m not in a hurry since the H1 is awesome.
This is very thorough! Thanks, Stephen!
Fuji always update the filmware , the xh1 now is faster in focus. I think Fuji do a great job with filmware.
I would expect that within 6 months or so, we will see an XH2 with the same sensor and processor. I'm not sure that we will see an X-Pro3 (I have an X Pro2), but I would really like to see an X-E4! Small, light and precise.
James Tulk And now XPro3 is coming but XH2 won’t be announced before 2020
I debated to upgrade from my xt2 to xt3 for low light photography but after the latest firmware upgrade the xt2 works pretty good in low light at even at 12500 iso. so I decided not to upgrade and instead wait for the XH2 and keep using my XH1 for my hybrid needs.
Lol
Thanks mate - great content and answered all the questions myself, and I'm sure most others had.
XH1 all the way, IBIS > new Tech
Michael, you are overlooking one of the major reasons to chose the X-H1, IBIS. There's no doubt that many photographers want IBIS. The Olympus OMD EM1 would never have been as popular as it is without the terrrific in-camera stabilisation. The X-H1 also has a more robust body, which a lot of photogrraphers appreciate - even require. The grips is better by far.
I have talked about Ibis a lot in this one ...
Thank you for your opinion, Michael
After seeing this video I can't decide if I should go for the X-H1 or X-T3 as a filmmaker, they're both great and would be an upgrade to my X-T2. 😅
Then get both 😂
@@pixelcatcherStuttgart that's exactly what I'm doing!
Wait for X-H2 😂
Hi Marco! I think the X-H2 is going to be *spectacular*! The X-H1 is really superb, see my comments as to why above. Cheers! ;-)
@Wabi-sabi which gimbal is best for the X-T3? None of the ones I've seen are compatible
Why would you do long exposure handheld?
@@sharonraizor2839 they probably don't mean long as in a 30 second exposure, but even a 1/40 can get shakey.
@@gmcubed this is true.
actually, for photography, I think the X-H1 is better because of IBIS. having the image stabilized allows for a slower shutter speed and thus lower ISO which leads to less grain in your pictures. my thoughts though
In 2019 guys should buy a discounted Xh1 and second hand xT2
lol....if you have the money.
Night city photo, video and concerts. Which should I consider? In simpler words. Which one performs better in low light?
Well I might show something in my new videos. Good point.
Hello there, I found your comparison very useful, but
I still have some doubts,
that's why I want to ask you something:
now I own an X-H1, but I find it heavy to my ordinary routine.
I don't know, what else I am missing if I change the X-H1 for the X-T3 (besides the 100g less)?
it's worth it?
dear I hope you can give me your opinion and advise soon!!!
thanks
IBIS can be very helpful for stills or even for videos. Not sure if you know that.
Smart helpful comparison between the two models. I am a Canon/Panasonic shooter, but considering adding Fujifilm.
Be careful. You might want to switch completely:)
XT3 with the mgh grip. This grip really works when you use heavier and bigger lenses
You should turn off auto iso when filming.
Glad someone else is thinking this when people point out the stepping exposure... How do TH-cam experts not realize this while recording?
I can shoot handheld at 1/15 with no effort on my X-H1. I loved my X-T2 but I couldnt go back to not having IBIS, using flatter ergonomics or hearing that louder shutter.
Oh yes. That shutter!!! It’s so smooooth
X-H1 with my 16-55 and 56mm, XT-2 with my 10-24 and 50-140...Perfect set up for me
I lived with Olympus OMD-EM1 for 2,5 years, they've arguably had the most efficient IBIS in the business for a long time now.
Wrong. Test iso 1600 against 6400. then you know why you don’t need an Ibis for stills.
It's a back side illuminated sensor with a new processor. It will be a monster..
Slide Slide 😒🍆xs Poor guy lol.
As always, life gives us difficult choices.
... and opportunities! :)
Good discussion. I now have the XH1 but I rarely use the video function. I preordered the XT3 and must decide which one to keep because I shoot stills mostly. Should I be concerned about a "new" camera which usually needs tweaking?
The Xt3 has focus smearing when used with the 23m 2.0. Could you tell me how to correct this other than changing my AF-S?
XT3 = No IBIS. if you're doing video that's a big omission.
i own X-H1, tempted to get the XT3, but the more i think, i dont really need XT3 tech for now. better to wait for X-H2, i think it will gonna be cheaper than XH1.
Thanks for you review.. it cleared my doubts.. Now I know precisely that I am going for XT3
That’s also an interesting point of view.
And 4k 60fps
I can't decide for 2 months, xt30 or xh1, and now I still can't decide, the price is similar 850 vs 800 euros. Fujiiiii :)
I’d definitely prefer the H1
Hi Michael,
Watched your video, liked the way you have presented, very honest and straightforward.
I have a question to ask and would really appreciate your honest answer.
I want to ditch my D750 and a 50mm f1.4, because its slow, bulky and loud for doing photography in public and gets me conscious.
I have known Fujifilm to be a great Camera specially XT series, but I have some question,
1- Does XT2 / 3 not have an as good image quality as D750 ( being Full frame)
2- what Lens would you recommend for Fashion photography in smaller spaces, space is always an issue.
3- Are thee any tele-converters or adaptors to reduce fish eye effect from wider angle lenses?
I would really appreciate your inputs,
thanks,
Ajay
Good comparison. X-T3 sounds like it would be great for me. I'm interested in how you became an X photographer, and am also interested in any videos showing the T3's sports and action tracking. If you could take it to a track or road race that would be awesome, or a football match! 🏃 ⚽️
wedding photographer what are you prefer(xh1/xt3)?
@@bobbyagront2565 | couldn’t agree more 😏
There seems to be a huge debate about the importance of IBIS for stills. It's really frustrating they didn't build OIS into the 16-55 :s
I have no idea whether to go for the IBIS of the XH1 or the processor/better low light autofocus ability of the XT3 for street and travel photography for my Asia trip next month. If anyone could comment with some advise I'd be so appreciative... (I have the 16-55 2.8, the 55-140 2.8 OIS and the 16 1.4).
(Video is irrelevant to be my the way:)
Also - does the XT3 share the same reinforcements they made to the XH1's mount?
I like the discreet, small X-E bodies as well. Don't want to live without a flip-out screen (waist level finder) though.
Thank you!
Lens IS is not as powerful as IBIS :)
@@pixelcatcherStuttgart Thank you. It seems now that I will be getting a gimble. Any recommendations? Thx
So, Michael, street photography where you mostly handheld the camera is better with X-H1 because of IBIS?
No. Shutter speeds are doing all of the work there for me.
is this 4k downscaled to 1080? it's very crisp
I don’t remember :) I guess i recorded straight in 1080
How is the image quality compared to xt3? Especially high iso night shots

A question... If we prefer hand heald should we prefer sony a7 III instead od x-h1
Get some light on your subject and that problem goes away.
Sorry, a bit off topic...What class memory card do you recommend? SDXC UHS-I Memory Card or UHS-II?
I use these most of the time: amzn.to/2p3W3xl
You would also choose the xh1 for stills because it has ibis
i have Xh1, I have to change Xh1 to Xt3?
What is your opinion about between xt3 and gh5s? Which one does better?
Haven’t used the gh5. But like a lot of people say the XT3 is a Strom competitor.
@@pixelcatcherStuttgart thx for replay btw, wish that you'll make that video soon when you have that experience..

No clue. Sorry
Have you tried Luminar over Capture One?
I wonder if there is reliable adapter to mount Canon lenses.
I have a question around low light performance, is it better than Xt2? And how about dynamic range?
As I understand the reviews, the XT3 has a minus 3 exp. advantage.
The lack of IBIS is the only reason why i wont get the xt3. I wont be able to use non IOS lens and have amazing low lights shots below 1/60. :/
If fuji added that into thr xt3 i would have bought it at $2000
I ordered in Black to match most of the lenses
what is your take vs gh5s ? professionally
Never tried. Don’t like it’s crop factor and body look and feel.
Would you please do a video on continuous autofocus in video with XT-3? Like trying to film a toddler dashing around doing toddler things. I have a XT-20 and I’m not crazy about its autofocus performance. Thank you.
hi ur videos are very good , and does af-c works while shooting 4k 60 fps and full hd 120 fps? in xt3
Yes
wow excellent it will be nice if you did a video on that and pls show some 4k 60p footage :)
Tanks for the informations, but you should speak more quickly and cut moments when you're thinking/searching for what to say next !
Well. No!
Unless you need IBIS, the X-T3 is the one.
Would you recommend Watson batteries for XT3 from B&H, specially for battery grip?
I can recommend these: amzn.to/2xgM7nG
And these amzn.to/2p4zkRF
Great for the video thanks the video looks great
I want the X-T3 but my main concern is the battery life and processing raw files :\
Use capture one. I got a introduction video on my channel. It’s currently the best
hi. can you please make a video on how the Xh1 IBIS works on video recording after installing new firmware?
Well. Check my USA Roadtrip video for that.
X-T3 is the consumer camera. XH1 is for the professional.
That’s just not the case.
So the worse af specs and worse video specs make the H1 the pro model?
Pixelcatcher - Fotograf und Fotokurse in Stuttgart specs are not always representative of professional vs consumer models. Like I said my iPhone shoots 4K 60 and it has ibis. Fuji markets their X-H1 toward the professional and the X-T3 toward the consumer. Consider the Canon EOS-1DX Mark II. The X-T3 blows the canon away in specs, so does that make the X-T3 professional? obviously not!
You’re missing out on the main thing that the XH1 offers which is ibis image stable ability xt3 Do not have it
Easy solution for shaky video, use the cheap 18-55 lens with image stabilization with the XT-3.. Problem solved..
Nope. Not the same. Definitely not. Guess you should try the XH1. Seems you haven’t done that.
Come on who even takes 5 frames per second? How did people took photos 10 years ago? =) Everybody is so blinded by all technical stuff, but they rarely go out and shoot anyways
Very helpful, man. Thank you.
Which one will you choose?
Already have the XH1.
Wich one has the best sensor? Nobody talk about that
I told you. XT3 has the newer and better and faster sensor.
You had me at ADVANCED.
Thx !
auto exposure in video mode is a bit rookie......
Same brain.
It's not a gimbal.
i wanna trade my X-H1 for an X-T3 :(
Why?
