Hi, thanks for this vid. i have been shooting(wedding, cosplay, casual) with XT3 since it's launch. Also i owns a XT1, that is where i started my Fuji journey. Talking about the software i am using, LR and PS. The Xt1's raw file is really great to pull details back. I do not have Capture1, i don't intend to spend extra money and time to explore the software(at least not now), so i used Camera Raw for the conversion, but somehow i feel that the Xt1 raw files are really better to work with. I am considering quite hard now for the XH1, yes for the IBIS as i am very interested and going to shoot more on night street photography. Assuming the file format is not the same as Xt3(as the processors are different), i will need the raw file to be usable on my LR/PS. In this vid, you mentioned the image quality is sharper on the Xt3, how much sharper? Is it usable? cheers ^^ /sam
If you have a really good manual Legacy Glass collection four documentary some portrait Street shooting I'm kind of leaning towards the xh1 have you tried to Legacy Glass on either of these sensors and found one over the other Fuji can be a little hit and miss on different glass when it comes to older manual lenses but I'm assuming the xh1 is going to help me out because of the IBS
I have both XT3 and XH1 and feel neither are a great upgrade on the XT2 as that is so similar in performance. Yes the XT3 has faster autofocus and the XH1 has ibis. All l know from my years with different makes and bodies is that unless you are going to print larger than A3+ then use an XT1 it is still an incredible camera and feels better in the hand than its modern brothers, Save your money for extra glass and enjoy taking pictures. Regarding my current pair of bodies I seem to pick up the XH1 75% of the time yet I don’t like the fact that it is heavier but oh that shutter release is magic and I am getting old and shaky so ibis is quite useful as I use primes most of the time.

If you have time I would love to hear your thoughts on ISO noise from the X-T3.
Hi Tracy, sorry for the very late reply. But thank you for your question. I (Suzi) shoot with the X-T3 the most and I agree with your observation that there is more noise at higher ISOs. I've found this very disappointing, but I don't like shooting above ISO 4000 on this camera. If you anticipate doing a lot of low light photography, the IBIS on the Fujifilm X-H1 will help you out a lot. The X-H1 also has a nice feel to it in terms of build -- it sits in your hands juuuuust right -- and a whisper-quiet shutter. Anyway, I'd root for the X-H1 for you in this instance. Hope this helps!
I'm a serious amateur and family photographer. I'm considering getting either a xt3 or a Sony a7iii. In terms of image quality coupled with usability would you have a recommendation? I like that the a7iii has ibis and excellent iOS capability but the xt3 appears to be more intuitive. Can you share any thoughts regarding this choice?
Perhaps the biggest difference between the two cameras is usability. If you're familiar with using film cameras, the Fujifilm's interface will suit you better. However, if your background is in DSLR cameras, the Sony is a closer match. In terms of image quality, both cameras are stellar; the Sony has an edge if you do a lot of low light shooting. Hope this helps!
Earlier in the year, I had the choice of getting the X-H1 or the a7III and I went with the Fujifilm, even though technically the a7III was better. But most of the reasons for me going for the X-H1 would still be applicable to the X-T3 and in many ways the X-T3 is up there with the a7III. 1. Price: The X-H1 was the same price as the a7III upon release but because Fujifilm uses APS-C, the lenses can be cheaper. I bought the 90mm f/2 earlier this year for about £750 and it is a steller lens. The X-T3 is cheaper than the X-H1 and the a7III, so even more incentive to buy. 2. Ergonomics and build: Fujifilm camera's are amounst the best built cameras around and for me the X-H1 is the best camera in hand Fujifilm make. The X-T3 isn't quite as comfortable in hand though you can easily get an attachment that does help if you have bigger hands. The one thing I didn't like about the X-H1 is the placement of the Q button (too easy to accidentally press) but the X-T3 has it in a much better spot. The X-T3 is much better in hand than the Sony a7III and I hate that my hand is so close to the sony lens when on the a7III, not an issue with the Fujifilm. Getting used to the controls of the Fujifilm does take a little time, if I had a complaint, it is the aperture in the Fujifilm lenses is too easy to accidentally knock on some lenses, so is something to be aware of. 3: Fujifilm is a much more compact system generally: The X-H1 is actually a little bigger than the a7III but when you add lenses to the camera the system works out to be smaller, especially if you use the f2 primes. The difference isn't so big with 2.8 zooms though. You can get small lenses for the Sony but then you are going down to f/1.8 lenses and the Fujiflm f/1.4 lenses still tend to be a little smaller and are better built and for me generally optically superior. 4. Fujifilm colour science is wonderful. I rarely shoot jpeg for photos but if I wanted to I could create a great looking image in camera which is similar to Fujifilms film, with video where it can be a pain to grade, I mainly shoot with a profile and it does look good, particularly if you want to match shot for shot. 5. Fujifilm kaizen policy. Fujifilm regularly update their camera. The X-H1's AF was pretty bad upon release (even the Fujifilm reps I know admit it was an issue). With the X-H1 Fujifilm quickly updated the AF and it was hugely improved, Fujifilm then updated their even older X-T2 up to the same specs as the X-H1 in most areas. More recently the X-H1 has had another big update, this one improves image stabilisation and allows for a single clip in video, instead of mulitple clips within a 29 minute record (huge for video). The X-T3 is a completely new sensor and processor, where as the X-H1 used the sensor from the X-T2. This will mean that the X-T3 should get some big firmware updates during its life time, which will probably include the improvements that Fujifilm will make to the AF, when the X-H2 is released. What can be said is that the Fujifilm camera you buy at the beginning, will be much improved during its life time. 6. The X-T3 EVF. The X-H1 has a good EVF*, the X-T3 is amazing and easily beats the Sony A7III. I am biased and the Sony a7III is a good camera but I can't say I miss full frame for 90% of the work I do. The only thing I much prefer coming from a full frame DSLR is the OVF which I still prefer for portrait work. When if comes to low light performance the Sony is better but the noise of the X-H1 and X-T3 whilst more pronounced looks quite natural. Of course you can get more bokah with full frame lenses but you are looking at getting a much bigger lens (The 85mm f/1.4 G Master or god forbid the Sigma 105mm f/1.4 art). You do get stablisation in the a7III which is a big advantage of the Sony compared to the X-T3 but it wasn't a big issue when I didn't have stabilisation and it isn't huge now I do. 7. More fun: The last reason I found for buying the X-H1 is that I enjoy shooting with the camera. I have had my D800 for years and I only ever took it out when I was working. Previous to the X-H1 I had an X-E1, which technically is a terrible camera but it is huge fun to use, the same goes with the X-H1 and with the X-T3. That smaller form factor means I don't have to carry around a big bag of lenses, so I want to take camera out to shoot (with most shoots, I normally take out the X-H1 the Fujifilm 90mm f/2 and the 23 or 35mm f/2, all of which fit into a small camera bag. In the end you need to try both cameras to see which system feels best to you. I came down on the side of Fujifilm, others may prefer the Sony. We are all individuals.
I don't think so. I was confused at first what they're doing, but after using it for a while I can tell it's definitely its own line with its own future and I actually prefer it
@Ziggi Mon Yeah, I wondered what was up. Guess everyone was waiting for the X-T3. Instead of making a new camera, just keep the one good camera and keep improving it.
Exposure compensation dial has zero use if you shoot manual. I have the xt2 and set the front dial to ISO and rear dial to SS. I didn't expect to like this but since moving to the front and rear dials, I haven't used the top dials to set ISO and SS.
I love my xt3. Most of the setbacks can be worked around with third party accessories and gear. I have a L bracket that extends my grip, this can also be accomplished with the battery grip. Also with gimbles like the ronin or moza air 2 you can get the smooth cinematics and take advantage of the better video quality. The moza air 2 has a follow focus unit but even if you go with a cheaper gimble that doesn’t have this feature, the auto focus of the xt3 is so good you can make use of it without a follow focus unit if need be. (Slowing down the auto focus in camera makes for better focus transition for video instead of the xt3’s quick snap focus.
For a final verdict: either you go with an even higher picture quality than the xh1 has or you loose the IBIS which can be unforgiving in certain situations
Full frame can be better, especially when shooting in low light. So it really depends on what kind of content you'll be shooting. If you do a lot of low light shooting where you need a high ISO, full frame is better. But if you tend to have ample light, the XT3 will be fine. Of those cameras, the XT3 is a good mix of new technology and solid ergonomics. The EOS RP lacks a joystick, and the EOS RF lenses are also prettttyyyy expensive compared to Sony (there are also cheaper third party options for Sony from Tamron and Sigma) and Fuji.
if the eye/face focus still misses then why would i use it?? when I can just use FOCUS it works on my XH1 every time and faster than the best eye/face focus.
Do you think video on the XT3 can be matched with the XH1 quite easily? Based on your samples I see the XT3 with more popping colours and the XH1 maybe with stronger blacks / more contrast, but I can't really decide with the youtube quality. So any opinions on that?
@@Gemini_Connect Thank you for the super fast reply. If you ever had to match the two, was it difficult ? Or do you have some samples that are downloadable ? I'm looking for some support since we are a team of two videographers and I'm thinking about getting the most out of each camera, but only of the image is kind of similar and we don't have to deal with a lot of "fix it in post" :) Thank you !
@@storyfilms-videografiedenu2398 It is not difficult as long as you shoot the same film simulation, you can barely tell. This video has both cameras th-cam.com/video/DxwFqMa-Fgk/w-d-xo.html
@@lbcitylacounty90810 funny, I also just took delivery of the Xt3 and the autofocus with the older lenses is night and day difference! Keeping both! Xt3 for the smaller lenses and the xh1 will keep for the 90mm and 16-55.
@KohMotion I shoot both. Obviously stills work is easy money for the xh1. But, I shoot professional fashion jobs and one reason I bought the xh1 was for IBIS for handheld video. Most paying clients these days also look for 60 seconds video clips to use in their social media campaigns. I use the xh1 to shoot handheld b-roll style footage and it works like a charm. Many of my colleagues are using the Sony a7sii and the xh1 IBIS is much better, especially after adding warp stabalizer in post. Another thing... Shooting 4k video, mostly unnecessary unless you're final product is large format. But if that's the case, most folks are shooting RED or ARRI. I skate by with 1080/120 all day long for most brand campaigns. Xh1 is a no brainer at the current price.
If you can get a mint second hand xh1 with battery grip, 2 batteries, rrs L bracket for 1300 aud Vs mint second hand xt3 for 1100 aud, which would you get?
Tough question...probably the XT3. It has better image quality than the XH.

You should get the gfx-eyecup for your x-h1. I´ts much better quality than yhe original one and it fits perfect. I use to have too but new ones all time until I switched to the gfx one. Great video have an awesome day.

It's a little bit more expensive than the original X-H1 eyecup. But it's much better quality and it looks pretty cool and professional too.
i'm new to the videography, is X-T3 gonna be shaky if i use fuji prime lens? 18-55mm f2.8-4 Depth of field is not that great, and i dont like using gymbal either
I'm also a Nikon shooter but I'm really torn between these two cameras. I don't know which one to get. The X-H1 I think is the best photo camera and the X-T3 is the best video camera. I'm leaning towards the X-H1, because that's a camera camera. But on the other hand I would really miss the X-T3 video specs. I don't know what to do. hehe Excellent video thought guys! It was really interesting to sit and hear some opinions on these two cameras.
Glad to see your endorsement of the 18-55 f/2.8-4 lens. It's insulting to call it a "kit" lens. It's almost all anyone needs. And the 35/1.4 lens makes magical images. I think it's made of pixie dust. I'm using an X-T2 with a Moza Air 2 gimbal for video. The only reason I am tempted to get an X-H1 is that I want to use legacy lenses. But I'll probably wait for the next generation with IBIS.
@@Gemini_Connect 18-55 only 3.5 stops stabilization. but 16-55 can maximize ibis to over 5 stops. bigger means more light too. the red badge is not just a gimmick… its pro lens. H1 + this = dream
Yes, but it still beats in stability vs lenses that don't have OIS on the XH-1 and Also there's an IBIS update coming this month which will enable the other stops. I do agree that Red badge are great optics, but for shooting video on the go without a tripod, I don't find them the best choice
Thanks for the video! I've been struggling to decide which one to upgrade to, but now I'm convinced the X-T3 is the one for me. I love the idea of having IBIS, but I think with my 18-55 or my 50-140, I'll be satisfied. When you mentioned the X-T3 is sharper, that was one point pulling me off the fence toward the X-T3. Also the price; my problem is that I'd love to have all of the Fuji cameras - ridiculous I know. I recently bought the separate grips for my old X-T1 and my X-Pro2 and I just love how they feel. So I'm thinking just the accessory grip for the X-T3 (not the battery grip) will be a fantastic combination. Have you tried just the metal grips on any of the Fuji bodies? If not I recommend you check it out. Thanks again!
Hi, thanks for watching. Metal grips? Do you mean the L brackets? We've only tried the battery grips. The X-T3 is the right choice for now... Until X-H2 comes! And yes we have 3 Fuji cameras already and we gave an X-T100 away
@@Gemini_Connect Hi Thanks for taking the time to reply. I hope you're having a great holiday! On the metal grips I was talking about the Fujifilm versions. For example for the X-T3 there is the "Hand Grip MHG-XT3". I bought the appropriate variants of this for my X-T1 and X-Pro2 and they made a big difference - feeling much more secure for me - especially using the 50-140. The version for the X-T3 runs $129 at B&H which seems really expensive for what it is, but it mates so well to the body that it you may not ever want to remove it. I'm not sure, but my guess is that it will feel perfect for Suzi; smaller than the native X-H1 grip, but bigger than the native X-T3 grip which I assume is similar to the X-T1 / X-T2 native grips. The nice thing about these is that you can still access the battery door and they have arca-swiss style milling on the base plate. On another topic, I'm trying to wean myself off of Amazon so please consider arranging for affiliate links with B&H and / or Adorama. Anyhow, Merry Christmas Suzi and Martin and thanks for the great content! Bill
@@bobbyagront2565 Hi Bobby, Thanks for the reply. Yes B&H has the same deal. My problem is that I have a major case of G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). I'm totally hooked on Fuji. At the moment I'm lusting for the 90mm f2. Do you have that Lens? I'm sure the X-H1 would be awesome with 90mm f2 because of the IBIS since the 90mm doesn't have OIS.
One big reason I am looking at the X-H1 over the X-T3 is build quality. My X-T2 was awesome. I have now owned a used and new X-T3 and both were not as solid as my X-T2. Specifically, the ISO and SS dials, when locked/unlocked had extra snags (the ISO) and metal pops (the SS). The SS dial issue was on BOTH bodies, used and new and sounded like a think piece of metal popping (in addition to the click of the lock/unlock button). Not cool. Also, the rear command dial is CRAZY tight. I have not been impressed with build quality of the X-T3 but I could have just gotten two bad bodies.
I doubt you really noticed the sharpness difference between the two cameras, especially for stills. This newer sensor does not improve any noticeable sharpness. Probably a placebo interference for the xt3 being a newer model.
@@Gemini_Connect That's a subjective assumption. I it does better in video, thanks to higher bit rate and depth. However I find this information misleading for stills. Great video BTW, but I think I had to point this topic to people that are looking to buy a gear atm.
@@Gemini_Connect Actually yes, I've done unhealthy research between the two cameras to decide which one is better for my needs. In regards of image quality both are very very close, the difference is not big enough to perceive in the real world. Even in synthetics measurements we still struggle to find the difference, it is usually 1/3 to 1/6 of a stop in dynamic range. Having said that, the extra stabilization on the xh1 still provides a better sharpness and dynamic range allowing slower shutter speeds. More than a newer sensor as far as I know. Do you have any source comparing both of the cameras? I would appreciate that, and I also appreciate you time to answer me. Thank you!
Gemini Connect Are you shooting at the same video quality/file size on both bodies for the very noticeable improvement? I don’t think I would ever max out the video settings on the 3.. my iMac would revolt.
Kinda sad you are sticking to the kit lens for testing the image quality. All the 'Fujicron' lenses are better and cheaper lol but overall good review... Thanks
I have both the XH1 and XT3...the quality in video and stills are the same (at equal settings). I never reach for one over the other based on image quality...just based on the features I need (4K60p vs. IBIS).
Great vid. Lots of informed info and spec comparisons. Just what we need on youtube to counter the yawning clickbait on offer from some other channels . BUT please ditch the background music, i was expecting the Hoff or Wonder Woman to burst in and rescue you at any minute....
I like LCD screen on the top of the camera which is naturally and convenient viewing info. in the dark. I can read info. faster with the upper LCD display than reading indication on dials. I don't have the XT3 but I think I prefer the HX1 because of that. I am not a fan of pure dial control digital cameras, it just my personal preference.
As a Leica M10 user, when I'm holding my xt3, I feel no aesthetics at all, the only advantage is fast focusing and super light and compact body, I mean really fast, way much faster than my Canon 5ds, but the high iso quality is so unsatisfying even comparing to Leica, however, the f1.4 lenses are pretty cheap, which made the camera doesn't need iso higher than 3200.
The Fujifilm X-H1 vs X-T3 -- which would you choose and why?

Would you say the X-H1 was just a side step for Fuji so they could work on a few things before launching the X-T3?
I don't think so. I was confused at first what they're doing, but after using it for a while I can tell it's definitely its own line with its own future and I actually prefer it
@@Gemini_Connect Ah, good to know.
@Ziggi Mon Yeah, I wondered what was up. Guess everyone was waiting for the X-T3. Instead of making a new camera, just keep the one good camera and keep improving it.
They discounted because they released the next gen processor and sensor already
@Ziggi Mon you may if you've already released a new version of the census and processor for less money.
Exposure compensation dial has zero use if you shoot manual. I have the xt2 and set the front dial to ISO and rear dial to SS. I didn't expect to like this but since moving to the front and rear dials, I haven't used the top dials to set ISO and SS.
Interesting set up. We mostly shoot in Aperture mode and one of us puts the ISO on auto-compute with the limits on most of the time
I love my xt3.
You mentioned the image is better on a full frame? I'm debating between this camera, the EOS RP, or an older A7RII. Curious on your thoughts~
@@Gemini_Connect Thanks so much for the advice and insight. You have a great channel, love your content!
@@averageguy1261 you're welcome! Hope it was helpful 🙂
if the eye/face focus still misses then why would i use it?? when I can just use FOCUS it works on my XH1 every time and faster than the best eye/face focus.
@0:59, guys, what kind of modes/simulations you used?
That is Astia
Do you think video on the XT3 can be matched with the XH1 quite easily? Based on your samples I see the XT3 with more popping colours and the XH1 maybe with stronger blacks / more contrast, but I can't really decide with the youtube quality. So any opinions on that?
Yes, X-T3 video is better.
With the current Fuji sale on the X-H1, I bought one. I hope I will not be disappointed with my decision.
Mine came in today. Shipped with firmware 1.0. Make sure you update to 2.0 right away. Couldn't be happier with it so far.
Should've bought the XT3!
How much did you buy the XH1 for?
If you can get a mint second hand xh1 with battery grip, 2 batteries, rrs L bracket for 1300 aud Vs mint second hand xt3 for 1100 aud, which would you get?
Tough question...probably the XT3. It has better image quality than the XH.
You should get the gfx-eyecup for your x-h1. I´ts much better quality than yhe original one and it fits perfect. I use to have too but new ones all time until I switched to the gfx one. Great video have an awesome day.
which one exactly do you mean? Got an amazon link? Thanks for watching!

Yes it will
Did Fuji fix the terrible moire on the xh1? Despite it being on sale with grip + 2 batteries I'm still hesitant to buy it because of the moire
Never seen it after using the camera for a year
I imagine* X-H2, mmmmm 4k 60 + Ibis, and if its 1600-1700$, mmmmmm. Bonus might be better battery :).
Yes you are so right. The battery needs improvement the most
@@Gemini_Connect it depends if you are a wedding shooter and have 10 batteries it is a pain if the change the battery
Yes, Fuji needs better batteries so badly. Sony's new batteries are so awesome.
I don't know what to do. hehe
Excellent video thought guys! It was really interesting to sit and hear some opinions on these two cameras.
this is what i need, superb
Glad to see your endorsement of the 18-55 f/2.8-4 lens. It's insulting to call it a "kit" lens. It's almost all anyone needs. And the 35/1.4 lens makes magical images. I think it's made of pixie dust.
I'm using an X-T2 with a Moza Air 2 gimbal for video. The only reason I am tempted to get an X-H1 is that I want to use legacy lenses. But I'll probably wait for the next generation with IBIS.
we're actually going to make a tribute to the 18-55. Kit lens used to suck but now they're awesome and we use that lens 90% of the time, It's SO good
@@Gemini_Connect big mistake to overlook the real deal here: 16-55mm. with H1 its a must. video+stills.
It's a lot bigger and it doesn't have OIS...
Bill
Thanks this is a good tip. We'll make some more links
Right now the Xh1 is $1300 on Amazon brand new with the battery grip! You'll save money and a better balanced camera with zoom lenses!
I like our comparison
Thanks Scott! Glad you enjoyed it.
Yes, xh1 is better built and I'm waiting for xh2 insead of buying xt4
I doubt you really noticed the sharpness difference between the two cameras, especially for stills. This newer sensor does not improve any noticeable sharpness. Probably a placebo interference for the xt3 being a newer model.
In video, it's very noticable
@@Gemini_Connect That's a subjective assumption. I it does better in video, thanks to higher bit rate and depth.
However I find this information misleading for stills.
Great video BTW, but I think I had to point this topic to people that are looking to buy a gear atm.
@@itsLuisG thanks. have you looked at the video comparisons yourself? Is pretty easy to see
@@Gemini_Connect Actually yes, I've done unhealthy research between the two cameras to decide which one is better for my needs.
I don’t think I would ever max out the video settings on the 3.. my iMac would revolt.
xt30 vs xh1 which one for best the video?
XH1 is better because it has IBIS
@@Gemini_Connect I usually take videos on tripod, is that matter?
what is the title of the music song used?
Keep it coming Guys... Very informative, and Very Calm... 👍👍
Do . both cameras have an ELECTRONIC VIEW FINDER?
Yes they both do

All mirrorless cameras have an EVF.
Kinda sad you are sticking to the kit lens for testing the image quality. All the 'Fujicron' lenses are better and cheaper lol but overall good review... Thanks
we have many lenses, but those are most useful
the exposure dial is stil there... Just in a different place...
No it's no. You have to hold down a button and move you front dial. It sucks
FujiLove gonna get you’ll!!

Till date, xh1 with grip is cheaper than xt3.
The XH-1 w/ the battery grip is $1100 on Amazon.. Pair that with the $350 35mm f2.0 /// should I do it ?!
@@TopshelfJunior I think that combo is well worth than xt3, judging from price point of view of course.
XT2/XH1 have the exact same image quality as the XT3
I don't think so. Xt3 images look better
@@Gemini_Connect for video yes, but not stills.
The xt3 has a different sensor so there must be some differences.
I have both the XH1 and XT3...the quality in video and stills are the same (at equal settings). I never reach for one over the other based on image quality...just based on the features I need (4K60p vs. IBIS).
For low light, XT2 is slightly better than the XT3 from papers and from other TH-cam reviewers 😊
Great vid. Lots of informed info and spec comparisons. Just what we need on youtube to counter the yawning clickbait on offer from some other channels . BUT please ditch the background music, i was expecting the Hoff or Wonder Woman to burst in and rescue you at any minute....
OMG .. I laughed for a good half a minute after reading your comment... my god... Just what I needed.. bravo! Comment of 2018
Man if only we could get the Hoff to star on our channel!
I wish xt3 has a lcd on the top plate to display camera information
What do you like about that? I like it when it's dark
You can see some portrait pictures with the XT3 on my Instagram @dynamicgeekstudioau
7000 dollars and it's pretty arguable which looks better...
