    Glad I found this video!!! Stopped by the local hardware store after work last night and my ‘09 Sierra wouldn’t budge. Got the “shift range inhibited” on my dash. Started searching online while waiting for my ride home and found this video. I went under the truck and found the plug under the passenger side and gave it a wiggle not expecting much. Low and behold I was able to get into gear and drive my truck home!! I’ll be getting under there today to give it a thorough cleaning. Thank you thank you!!! Nice job on the video, keep it up!!

    Jai agree with Brandon we owe you for this great find - I Have a 2009 - 2500HD - Same issue as all. Cleaned the plug as you said, full of oil. It came back in 2 weeks with the shift Inhibit again. The cause was the wiring harness in the transmission. The seal was letting the oil into the plug. $ 360.00 new harness plus labor it's running awesome. I have seen mileage at 20 mpg and smooth running. It was causing a lot of little issues, rough idle, sluggish performance, weird shifts all of it comes back to this wiring harness. THANK YOU !!!

    First of all Jai - Thanks for posting this vid - Super helpful. I will try and answer the question about how you get the plug off. Mine was coated in grime so first thing I did to see what's what down there I fully cleaned it by spraying simple green, scrubbing with a toothbrush and rinsing with water until all of the plug part was clean. The plug is actually the female part while the male part is attached to the transmission so the plug slips over the part attached to the trans and clicks in. Once it was all clean and I could see what's going on I inserted a 1" wide gasket scraper (a large flat blade screw driver will also work) in between the trans and where the bottom/end of the female plug almost meet, there is about a 1/16 gap. With one hand I grabbed the plug and pulled while I twisted the gasket scraper to help push it off from the bottom of the female plug part. It popped off without to much effort and it was full of transmission fluid. I disconnected the batteries and then spayed both plug and the pins on the trans side with electrical cleaner - I used a lot almost a quarter of a spray can and using the spray straw. Once I was sure both sides were clean and dry I put some silicon caulk into the small hole on the top of the female plug to keep fluid from entering there in the future. I added some dielectric grease to the female plug connectors and re attached. If I could have posted pictures here to show the plug parts I would have but I guess its not allowed.

    It worked!!! Extra tip guys… after I replaced the pass through seal I removed the green cap from connector and sprayed electric parts cleaner deep into the plug. Took two cleanings a day apart to get it right. No more delayed engagement or erratic shifting. Thanks again.

    I second the ignition switch, I have an 05 GMC 8100 w/allison 1000, intermittent issues with range shift inhibited that got progressively worse until the truck would almost never shift. There is a white wire on the back of the ignition switch that should have 12vdc when the ignition is on. $50 and 5 minutes, works great!

  • @hillwilliam.
    @hillwilliam. ปีที่แล้ว +8

    If there's atf in the connector, it's due to the internal seal in the plug failing. Cleaning it is only a temporary fix. You can either replace the whole internal trans harness or you can buy the seal part of the plug separately.

    *** unfortunately once the cold weather hit I am getting the "shift range inhibited" again and wont allow me to shift.
    I have an 05 Duramax and I have on off "shift range inhibited" issues for the last 4 years. I have a company truck I never messed with it much. Everything online until this video showed replace the nsbu switch so I did a few years ago. Well today I drove my truck for the first time in awhile and it just wouldn't move after 30 yards. Watched this video, cleaned up plug and BAM! Fixed a 4 year old issue in 5 mins. I'm gonna spray it with dy electric spray just to give it a better seal now.

    My LB7 sat June and July.
    Mid July, I go drive it, and the ABS and Park Brake lights are on, and it's displaying Service Brake System. I tried driving it, it wouldn't shift to second. It would just go to neutral and then display Range Shift Inhibited, but no codes thrown or stored.
    I checked what was covered in this video, and then I bled the brakes. The passenger rear passed some bubbles, and the rest had no bubbles.
    This cured it, I started it, and there no lights on the dash, and everything is fine once again.

    • @jaisantana2293
      @jaisantana2293  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many people have had that problem, some of the duramax have the Tcm plug glued on and you may have to use a heat gun to take off the plug. Then should pry off with enough heat.

  • @jaisantana2293
    @jaisantana2293  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey guys glad to see that this is helping some people out there!! Big question i get is how do you take the plug off? On my lb7 it was easily as a clip.

    But I’m hearing that it is glued on the other models. So I was told to use a heat gun to take the glue off of the other part of the connection and that should work. There still a little hole on the plug where debris can get in so be sure to clean that plug best you can took me 3 tries before mine worked so don’t give up if it does not work the first time!

    Haven’t had this issue since. So I know for a fact that this was the problem!

    I had 10 codes all transmission related took it into shops and no one could figure it out. Gears were banging. Couldn’t go past 30. And lots of more weird things. Took the time and messed with the plug and it worked.

    Anyways guys thanks for all the input and helping each other out! Keep letting other people know what you found helped out or was the issue? No one wants to be in this annoying situation.

      Many people have had the same question on mine it just came off. I’ve been told that the plug is possibly glued to the other need of the plug so you’ll have to use a blow dryer or heat gun and it should come off. There is still a little hole on top where debir can still enter so would defiantly give it a shot.

      Wyatt Hemby I can almost guarantee it’s a wiring issue!! Recommend to check all your wiring or replace the modular I show in the video.
